Already saw it. :< 'twas good, but I liked the novel better myself.

About to download 'Disappearance'
I've only watched the original series though, didn't bother watching S2 due to apparently it being more or less the same with a few extras (eight of them I am well aware of) so do I need to watch S2 or should I be fine?

It's 14 actually. Go watch the first episode of S2 at least, it's a very important episode if you really want to watch Disappearance.
-
just watched the movie.
Damn, that was awesome.
-
Too bad I can't watch it yet. Have to wait for the 720p because my comp can't handle 1080. I'll be patient though, good things come for those who wait.
-
Im waiting for the english dub.

Haruhi's dub does suck, as does anything Bang! Zoom.
You shouldn't have fed him though, BD.
-
I'd like to ask for a concise explanation of what Endless Eight was. I recall how badly it unsettled Haruhi's fanbase and since I guess everything moved past that, what exactly happened?
It was like this long period of time where everybody was excited for a sequel anime, then
"Endless eight".
-
One chapter of the book was adapted into eight distinct anime episodes. The only differences between the episode were the art, some minor plot details, and some dialogue changes/choices.
It annoyed people because people were eager for more book material made anime, and didn't get it.
Some felt that the pain and suffering Yuki had to go through in it made it easier to empathize with her in the movie.
-
And anyway about the dub how is it bad? the voices are all great and the lines are great to.
-
wow. i've never seen the dub. i'm terrified just thinking of it. TT_TT
hides under the covers
-
@Tamaki:

guess im the neutral/rational person around here i happened to like both sub and dub versions of the show, eh whatever, go figure huh.
anyways, why do you care? if the dub is fine to you, then that is all that matters, there's no need for people to influence you otherwise.
i never quite understood why peolple get so defensive about this, its quite simple really:some people like only subs (original), some like the dub, or both. its really just a matter of preference.
-
The first time I watched the anime I tried the dub. As soon as I heard Mikuru's voice I changed it to Japanese, heh.
-
@Tamaki:
What do you mean? Are you trying to say the english dub sucks? cause if thats the case then dude shut up and go watch the 4kids dub of one piece.
Oh wow, look at this obnoxious casual kid. He thinks the dub of Haruhi is good.

lol now now children lets be civil, people are allowed to express their personal viewpoints on these things.
anyways, man im tempted to watch the movie bad, but im just restraining myself

I thought that Endless 8 thing was a clever idea gone wrong. After the second episode that was exactly the same, I thought, "Wow, that's kind of cool." After four and five I was kind of wondering, "How can they possibly still be doing this!?" Certainly it makes viewers empathize with the characters' situation, but you also have to take into consideration that the situation is a miserable/repetitive one, and thus the anime is making the viewers miserable/bored!
Perhaps if there had been some small amount of progress each time, or if the arc had been like 4 episodes it could have worked, but I'd say that in the end it was a failed experiment.
EDIT: watched the movie. It was decent, but far too long.
-
I started watching this the other day. It's not as crazy as I expected it to be, but still odd and engaging. The dialogues are brilliant.
Aliens, time travelers, ESPers? What Haruhi needs is a good dosis of Gantz. -

I watched the first 8 episodes of the anime.
This isn't meant to troll, but is the series always like this? I don't dislike it, but naturally the impact of the weirdness going on sort of wears off after awhile. Does it get a lot better from this point? I wasn't even very fond of Episode 8, although I did like the one that had Kyon and Haruhi stuck in her head (that alternate dimension).
-
I don't really think it gets "better", just kind of hangs out at that same level. Until the Endless 8…when it attempts to bore you to death.
-
The general series flow begins with Kyon bored, then him dealing with the interesting supernatural events around him, to him growing fond of the SOS Brigade and trying to keep the group together.
So no, it doesn't stay the same. At least not in the novels, but the complete anime + movie only adapts the first four books, so you're not getting the latter part yet.
-
Wow, After watching the whole series (yes even the infinite 8 arc) and watching The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, I gotta say it's an awesome anime series. I ask myself why haven't I seen it sooner? Anyways is this really it? I mean for the show, it ended pretty badly with the rain episode but the movie made up for it so is there more Haruhi coming up? I heard that the novels are still in production, so is there anything else that can satisfy this haruhiism thirst besides the Haruhi-Chan and Nyoron Spinoffs?

Nothing has been announced yet, but considering the insane popularity of the show, I find it highly unlikely that they won't make a third season at some point.
-
The creator said he's done with the series. And did anyone get the PS3 game for Haruhi?
-
Yeah, they still have a bunch of material to make for a 3rd season, I'm just hoping they don't do another endless eight type of stunt.

Actually the author of the light novels is still releasing two more novels:
http://haruhi.wikia.com/wiki/The_Surprise_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya_%28Final_Part%29And I haven't gotten the Haruhi game since it's entirely Japanese.

yeah, those books just came out in Japan. I don't know what the author wants to do next, though. But you're right, there's more than enough material around for another proper anime season.
-
What? I was told that he wanted to stop writing Haruhi.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
By the way if this show was to end up on TV then what channel do you think it would work on?
-
I haven't heard anything about Tanigawa wanting to stop, though it's pretty obvious the guy's out of ideas for where he wants to go with Haruhi. Not that he had much direction to start off with.
-
Well when the main character is God you really don't have to try very hard. And I would post the video that said the creator said that but the guys channel was deleted for copyright.
-
Yeah, you do. Tanigawa started Haruhi off with nothing but a plot, and threw in some stock characters. He started developing Yuki, arguably the easiest stock character to work with, but didn't really have a direction for where he wanted the story to go after that, or what he wanted to say.
His 5-year writer's block is very telling of this. The guy stumbled upon something big, but doesn't have the ability to bring out its full potential.

Guys, check this out: http://mangahelpers.com/news/details/644 What do you think it will be?

I doubt it could be a new season. Probably just a another manga or reissue of something Haruhi related.
