True, this morning I was thinking… yay, prolly tomorrow we'll gte the new chap...
Damn, I had forgotten... sigh
Chapter 386 "Unprecedented" Discussion
-
-
I thourght there was no chapter this week?
 -
-
Hey guys, i was bored at work today and made this…
I really liked that spead, so i merged the two pics and cleaned it up. hopefully you guys like it. I spent a little while on this today.
Also on a side note this is my first attempt into cleaning up manga and really using photoshop... so tell me your pointers if you have any. -
Ey, isn't there any chapter next week neither?
-
-
Someone said in the last page that we will be without a new chapter in two weeks or something like that…
-
Lol… think about it, no manga for two weeks would be a one week break. Usually, we don't get manga for one week right?
-
What are you talking about? We get a new chapter every week exept those when Oda has a break, like now…
We DID get a chapter last week, and if we get one next, there is just one week without a chapter... -
He means that between each chapters you normally wait for about seven days (one week in other words). If we have a gab of seven days between the chapters then we don´t get a new one for one week. Get what I mean?
Furthermore this means that if this week there´s no new chapter then there´s a 14 day gab, which means no manga for two weeks in other words.
-
Aha, you guys meant directly in days, okay, but still, I still see it as one week without a chapter. :D

[off topic] Just to help you a bit there :) It's "gap".[/off topic]
-
Hmm I'm a little lost here… What exactly does the "Buster call" do?
-
Uhm, from what we know, it destroys pretty much everything in it's line. :D
-
I forget the exact details, but it deploys roughly 10 marine warships and several high-ranking officers. It's what totalled all of Robin's people, and is said to be impossible to escape/defeat. It's Robin's biggest fear (for the above reason), and CP9 threatened to use it on the Strawhats if she didn't cooperate

Uh, thanks. Didn´t know that.
-
Damn and the last week chapter was really bad…
I want to see Luffy vs Blueno! no spandam, no franky family and no CP9 talking just Luffy vs Blueno in the entire chapter ¬.¬
-
All action? No story? What do you think OP is? Naruto?
-
XD
Yeah, what the heck? I like chapters with plot, thank you.
watches clock Hm, about a 165 more hours or so… -
Yeah I liked the new chapter, it was interesting and funny. Spandams face was priceless.
-
I'll admit to wanting to see what the other members of CP9 can do. I'm expecting to actually do that in january or so ><
-
@omae:
All action? No story? What do you think OP is? Naruto?
Naruto is flahback and more flashback…
We already got a lot of plot chapters so the entire action chapter will be cool... u.u
-
I think there's still more plot to be had. We still need:
Robin's final decision
Revelation of the whole of Spandam's plan
Explanation of why Ao Kiji gave SPANDAM, of all people, the power of the buster call
Possibly the revelation that all of Water 7 is in fact built on the ruins of Pluton, but that's just a theory some of us have
My point is, there's a lot of stuff left to be cleared up.
-
Because how can you not trust a Panda?
-
I agree with Kurow. Plot in the middle of a big fight is okay…....I guess. But it wasn't even plot, there were filler pages with Pauly remembering fun times being chained up with Luffy and some animals getting nailed over and over again. Come on. It's been like, 60 chapters since Luffy got to cut loose.
-
uffffffffffffff i hake breaks!
-
Plot in the middle of a big fight is okay…....I guess.
Big fight? What big fight? This is the fight where Luffy will find himself somehow delayed, incapacitated, preoccupied, thought dead, overshoots victory, temporarily disabled, etc. preventing him from actually progressing like his has been. This "fight" is small pickings and is really more of a time-waster than any story ever could be.
When you see the fights in the arc, you'll know it. Alabasta didn't take 18-24 for nuthin'. How long a setup was that? And I'm sure we can all agree on the payoff.
-
Luffy hasn't kicked any real ass since Foxy, and even if Blueno ranks fourth, he's still a big time enemy. I could see him knocking out Arlong at least. So I wouldn't be too happy if Oda blows off Luffy's match and has him goof up when he's supposed to be all pissed and stuff. I mean, Pauly is sitting there fantasizing about Luffy paying them back. XD
But yeah, I do agree that Oda will deliver when he wants to.
-
I could see him knocking out Arlong at least.
Every time I hear this type of comparison I am fondly reminded of a message of a Japanese BBS I once read to the tune of:
"What're you nuts? Bring back in Arlong? Put him against even Nami now and it'd be like Mecha Freeza VS Trunks"
Now whether Blueno himself is a pushover or not is one thing. However, the importance of this fight is simply a plot element, there will be no resolution, just the needed delay.
Could I be wrong? Yes, but given how Oda needs to pace his characters and how he's handled Luffy in the past:
Lets Zoro fight
Runs wrong direction
Gets pushed back by Krieg
Wanders off by self
Feet stuck in concrete and subsequently stuck underwater
Wanders off by self again
Gets lost
Gets overfed
Possessed (sp)
Lets Chopper fight
Supposedly beaten to death….twice
Refuses to fight
Trapped in Nora
Golden Ball
Held back by rulesAnnnnnnd there you have it. All methods of delaying Luffy from fighting against the main villain and reaming them a new one. Just think, if Blueno weren't there and weren't meant to be a total distraction, Luffy woulda been IN the complex chapters ago.
Now not like I don't wanna see action, but Christ on a Cross, we've got all of CP9 and a crew of pissed-off pirates with one very groovy Cyborg.
There's gonna be more ass-kicking than an S&M Masquerade Orgy.

Best quote ever. You win.
-
Kurow, I got to agree with omae, this isn't Naruto or Dragonball. It's One Piece!
-
this sux!!!!!!!! no chapter this week makes this week suck
-
Omae, you forgot one: got struck between buildings, twice.
I feel little or none interest toward whole Blueno versus Luffy conflict. This chapter was better than a chapter revolving around that fight would had been but nevertheless, I hope Oda will resolve it soon in a way or another. That bit is good though, unlike usually we don't know how the fight will end, if there even will be an end at all.
Naruto is flahback and more flashback…
I'm sticking my nose where it doesn't belong, to the Naruto territory, but flashbacks are generally a positive thing. And I mean real flashbacks and not of those repeats of old. Often they can offer the best written and told sequences with a plot and a relevance. Like take Lost the television series, there flashbacks are my favourite part of the show. 20th Century Boys is all about flashbacks. The whole Berserk the animated series is one big flashback, and it's still loved by many,
-
Though I believe Naruto has the worst flashbacks ever….that Itachi thing knocked out half my interest in the series.
I was a tad disappointed by this chapter, but I dunno, I don't mind no-chapter weeks anymore.
-
Omae, you forgot one: got struck between buildings, twice.
HAHA! Yes! Good call!
I agree about flashbacks. They can be the BEST part of the series…so long as they don't go getting ADD and wander off track.
-
Or spend months going over something damn obvious and boring. I never mind these flashbacks because instead of just elaborating, they add new pieces to the puzzle, like how Franky's introduced Tom and Spandam.
-
@omae:

That IS the best quote ever. I'll be putting it in my siggy when I have time:laugh:
-
I think most people were a little disappointed by this last chapter, if not just for being too short. Hopefully next week will make up for it. And we get a color spread, yes?
-
Well the disappointment lies in page 11 for me. I was completely blind to see that no pages where missing but that this page is somewhat weird. The first panels of it work well with the previous page. And the last panel works well with the next page. But what´s weird is that the last panel doesn´t work well with the other panels on the very same page. The juror appears as if Sanji was pulling him out of his ass. We didn´t even see anyone run to get him, Zoro only says that nobody should go for him. It´s a bit weird in terms of a fluid flow of comic panels.
That and the fact that a beaten Juror just appears like that without an introduction box, while the team was foreshadowed to raise anticipation is somewhat of a let down to me at least. But still the chapter was very good. Just a bit weird at that point.
-
Yeah, I had a lot of trouble with that too. I almost want to think there was a massive printing mistake and something was left out. XD
-
There's always a possibility Oda will expand that scene for the tanko, though unlikely. Who knows, maybe he had something there but couldn't get it done due to time restraints.
-
It will probably be much more clear there in the anime. At least I'd hope.
-

Meh, I just don't think that the crew is actually getting any stronger than they ever were. They may learn new techniques or acquire new weapons that make them more dangerous, but I think that the Straw Hats are pretty much the same that they ever were. Perserverance seems more important to Oda than the "OMG LEET POWERUP!" mentality you see in a lot of shonen manga. That and old fashioned luck.
If a villain caused the Straw Hats a lot of trouble in the past, then they will probably do the same in the future. In fact, I'm willing to wager that some of them might even be more of a threat if they show up again simply because they have a better idea of what they're dealing with. Krieg for instance.
-
I agree. The only one who'd beat former opponents easily is Zoro, because he's always at some disadvantage during the fight. But even then Ener would feed him toes.
-

I've been staring that page a week and I still don't see anything wrong with it. I think you are missing the whole joke.

They could still get one.
-
I agree. The only one who'd beat former opponents easily is Zoro, because he's always at some disadvantage during the fight.
Well, with two major exceptions at any rate, Mihawk and Buggy.
For the most part, any of the swordsmen that he's faced in the past will lose to him simply because of the massive leap he's made mentally. I hadn't really thought about it that much before, but that's probably the reason that he was never able to beat Kuina; she may well have understood an underlying concept of swordsmanship that he didn't until the Daz Bones fight.
So the only people he'd have trouble with would be a swordsman who has presumably already made the same mental leap (and probably surpassed it, I suspect that he doesn't have to physically strike something in order to cut it) and an opponent who simply won't die no matter how many times you cut him.
But even then Ener would feed him toes.
Well, yeah, but I don't see him ever being able to compete with any Logia user simply because of the nature of their powers.
-
I'd feel bad for Zoro if he still couldn't beat Buggy. He could always just punch him out like that shark in Skypiea…
I forgot about Mihawk, though. So yeah, I guess the point stands about none of them being able to beat all former enemies with ease.
-

I have to disagree here. While there certainly is not such a thing as DBZ power ups the Strawhats get stronger with each fight and would now easily deal with their first opponents if they didn´t have any training.
I don´t have to dig out some whack theories to prove it, I just have to (once again) compare it to sports. The more real excercise you experience the stronger you get. Doesn´t matter if it is fighting sports or ball sports or whatsoever. You grow with the comptetition. You don´t stay on the same level you were before. And the Strawhats had a lot of competition and a lot of ways to grow. And if guys like Arlong, Krieg or Kuro didn´t do nothing in the meantime then they wouldn´t even stand on their feet for one second against Luffy.
You have to remember that almost all the Strawhats are teen agers. They are not old guys who already surpassed their limits. The Strawhats still grow in many ways.
-
Yeah, but that's assuming the enemies wouldn't do anything meanwhile. Even if they're a little dumb, taking a loss from Luffy should make someone like Krieg stronger as a fighter. I'd say the chance of him having an anti-Luffy plan is pretty high.
-
Somebody really said that?

Zoro: Every time we cross a new island,
we grow stronger in new ways without realizing it.
I agree it's not a power-up type of thing, but it's entirely logical that they would all become increasingly stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally on this kind of journey. I don't think they're all the same as they were when they started out.
