@JERK:
Being shown in the anime first means Oda told them about it lol, tail does not wag the dog.
Didn't we see the island Usopp was on FIRST, right before Luffy got to Impel Down? Where it looked like a meat eating plant and people speculated as far back as that as to the nature of it?
Oda just didn't confirm it till after the anime had gotten to it, and even then, it was only a couple weeks later.

huh i didn't say the tail wags the dog
but i'm sure its easy as heck to show posts of someone saying Oda told the anime some coverstory detail and you guys bashing saying no fucking way, your a moron, anime sucks, ban this fucker, eat a dick, ect.
mentioning anime or even giving it praise on this forum is like we screwed your mom or something.
if you dislike the anime to such an extent then avoid the area

there was no way to confirm that it was a huge meat eating plant from the cover stories or the short couple pages. we didn't get confirmed on that until very recently in the manga.

I'm looking forward to sanji meeting curry kid again.
When will oda draw that?
i thought that since fatsopp in the anime curry kid might actually be… drum rolls... Censored and banned for spoiling
-
@ultimateclima:
Yeah, but One Piece doesn't have that perfect translation, so I think criticism of the anime can be warranted.
That quote wasn't related directly to One Piece
Also, even if it was, playing out the fact that it has Audio and Images has a disadvantage or as something useless is wrongThough thanks to you I think I want to watch Azumanga Daioh.
You should, its like Lucky Star, except its actually funny and doesn't rely on Moeeee to be popular

See, that's just the problem. I can't with the stuff like what you did…sad I know.
The anime forum dug too deep..

To be honest all thing considered One Piece has faired pretty well in its translation from manga to anime.
Its far from perfect, the animation can be a bit wonky at times and the pacing could be better.
But I still consider the voice acting, music and the translation of the characters from page to screen, to be top class. -

What do you mean with the bolded part?
-

Except that it looked like real-life meat eating plants and it was speculated on when we first saw it.
Oda didn't come up with the idea a week after the anime did it.

What bolded part?
There is no bolded part on my screen. -
@robbybedfart:

Oda didn't come up with the idea a week after the anime did it.
didn't say he did, i'm assuming he told them. or they asked and he clarified.
cause otherwise what the anime did is quite the HUGE risk if they are going off of "it looks similar to a meat eating plant"
and whether you guys ever try and consider this movie canon or not. say one piece is over and no shiki ever in the manga. what do you guys then think of that? is he just a mysterious plot hole of a guy who escaped and disapeared. did he just become some forgotten character of oda that he teased about but never saw? or how do you explain a canon character only being seen in a non-canon movie?
Otherwise seems like a plot hole. the manga having him say he is planning for 20 years and nothing EVER happens? we just going to assume he randomly caught pneumonia and died or what?

So in other words it's unremarkable completely.

Its far from perfect, the animation can be a bit wonky at times and the pacing could be better.Its about as good as a longrunning ongoing shonen adapation can be expected to be. Its not terrible. Though I personally haven't really bothered with it in a few hundred episodes except for a few exceptions.
But I still consider the voice acting, music and the translation of the characters from page to screen, to be top class.
The voices are pretty damn top notch. They're pros. They're the main reason to watch it really.
Though Zoro's scream when he absorbed all Luffy's pain paled in comparison to my imagination.

Oda's mentioned tons and tons of characters, events, places, and background elements that never made it to the actual page. Sheer world building and adding to the history of it all. I wouldn't be dissapointed if we never saw Shiki any more than if we never saw Fisher Tiger.
Hell. Pandaman is his own series with supporting cast and villains in the scribbles of the backgrounds.
-

I'm sure Oda probably gave them a basic outline of what the situation was on each island. Probably not specific details though, which would account for the differences.
-
the voices are the only reason i've bothered with the show. And just general curiosity.
I like the sound and the music. And seeing certain scenes in motion is nice.
But there is quite a bit of crap to be found there.
I was very disappointed with the adaptation of impel down
-
Its not like I am against the topic of the discussion taking place in this thread, but shouldn't there be a thread called "One Piece Anime VS Manga" where people can debate between them? I understand how this discussion was born, but I actually find it rather off-topic on a thread directed to a single animated movie that was supervised by Oda himself.
I think the topic discussed in this thread right now deserves an actual thread of its own instead of it taking place on a thread where most people are waiting additional announcements and reviews of the actual movie.
Just what I think… I'd love to be part of this discussion but I don't think its appropriate for it to take place here. :/
-
Because what i understand under "the translation from page to screen" is animation which throws us back in the loop a few pages ago.
This makes me question if it has any real argument. Not just a vague well i like it and i get pumped up.
-
Just what I think… I'd love to be part of this discussion but I don't think its appropriate for it to take place here. :/
Stuff goes on tangents all the time here. Its fine as long as its not insanely off topic.
For instance, if we all began talking about Bubble Bobble on the NES and wishing people happy Birthday and talking about Sonic the Hedgehog sucked… well, it'd be the Naruto thread. And that would warrant a new topic.
But this is related and stemmed from the topic at hand.
Feel free to join the discussion.

I was very disappointed with the adaptation of impel down
Yeah Impel Down probably had the most problems of all the animated arcs.
Most of which were pacing related.I wish they would air One Piece in seasons like a normal show.
Being broadcast continuously creates problems. -

I disagree -

Being broadcast continuously creates problems.If that's the case how can the translation from the manga to the animation be perfect?

'Its far from perfect, the animation can be a bit wonky at times and the pacing could be better'
I never said it was perfect at all.

I asked you to explain this:

Way to contradict yourself…

If the movie is cannon, tell me exactly when it happens in the storyline, I am interested.
-
I asked you to explain this:
Way to contradict yourself…
But I havent contradicted myself.
The translation of the characters has been first class, mainly down to the superb voice acting.What does that have to do with the pacing?
You are confusing me. :blink: -
This post is deleted!

TOP CLASS

Yeah Impel Down probably had the most problems of all the animated arcs.

Being broadcast continuously creates problems.Davy Back Fight will always be the worst. At least Impel Down didn't add a level 4.5 or have some minor character or filler character show up and all of a sudden seem more important than Ace or something.
And even though I don't agree with Movie 10 being canon, Sammsy does have a point. The final pages in chapter 0 were leading up to movie 10. I think it's obvious that it was for movie promotion purposes but it'll probably be dropped and Shiki will never be mentioned again.
-
@JERK:

TOP CLASS
I'm sorry, the only filler I watched was G-8 and the had some awesome character moments.
-
If the movie is cannon, tell me exactly when it happens in the storyline, I am interested.
well i would just throw it in the 3 day trip from thriller bark to shabondy.
if we have a time skip it can't be after it, so whatever.
does it seem to fit perfectly cause zoro is hurt? no
but i prefer that over the missing Shiki in the manga. if you count ch. 0 you are hinted at this roger/wb guy shiki having some plans in 20 years and then yet nothing ever?
-
When was it said there were 3 days between TB and Red Line.
-
I'm sorry, the only filler I watched was G-8 and the had some awesome character moments.
So you said you're an anime fan, but you skip around 40 episodes.
-
So you said you're an anime fan, but you skip around 40 episodes.
Yep, I see no problem with skipping filler.
I just like seeing arcs animated. -
I like how as it's biggest defender even you skip half the warts.
-
@JERK:

Hey I'm a busy man, I can't watch everything.
Gotta catch up on all of my Naruto and Bleach, you know how it is. -

Yeah I skip the bits where Keanu is acting.
Oh wait…. -
Naruto and Bleach are well known good investments of time.

dan twenty twentysix is digging deeper and deeper.
But do not fair cause there is always this:

how can you even defend a so bad inconsistency? You think Oda is a so bad-writer he would forget Zoro was hurt. Come on, that would be One Piece biggest plot-hole.
-
-
@JERK:
Naruto and Bleach are well known good investments of time.
Hey don't mock Sasuke-kun, his darkness is maximum you know!
-
I follow and enjoy both. Both have their advantages, I feel. The manga has very detailed artwork, generally decent pacing, and of course, is the primary source without which nothing else would be possible, while the anime sometimes adds to or fleshes out things that I thought were brushed over too quickly in the manga, the comedic timing for the gags usually works better for me, an excellent musical score, and it usually gets the big moments down pat.
-
The only big moment animated that ever impressed me was how they used that orchestrated music during Croco getting beat.
The rest have all been let downs. -
the comedic timing for the gags usually works better for me,
Yeah the comedy does tend to hit home for me more in the anime as well.
-
@JERK:

The rest have all been let downs.How about Hiluluk's death scene? I loved the use of Ave Maria and the whole flashback leading up to that point was done really well.
-
Porbably would have liked it then, never saw that one.
