I love coming into these threads with the opinion of an outsider, it always makes a good read.
General Sonic the Hedgehog Thread (Now With Movie 3 & Knuckles)

Trainwreckspotters.

I'm assuming this is going to be another rushed masterpiece
ofshitjudging by the release date. -
No the adventure games had flighty controls and a terrible camera and were a partially successful attempt to bring sonic to 3D, and at the time people were hopeful that sega were on the right track. Then heroes came out, the controls and camera were worse instead of better and the levels were boring.
Shadow the hedgehog was your average 3d sonic game(already a black mark against it) but "darker" and with guns. No difference there, and it was rightly panned at the time
Well, I enjoyed playing 3 out of 4 of those games. (I could never finish Shadow, then my memory card got erased :getlost:). I wasn't focusing on the camera angle while playing them. I was focusing on the actual game itself. They actually had interesting storylines.
Out of curiosity, what Sonic games (if any) did you like?
-
@Badass:

Snocone, you have just lit the powder keg.
START RUNNING!

The "story", such as it was, was derisible, and has been an albatross around the neck of the franchise since.
Especially since sonic doesn't even need a story. It's like mario in that respect.
Miyamoto knows what he's going on about though.

Great:
Sonic 2,3,S & K
Very good:
Sonic CD(couldn't get on with the dash so much)
Good:
Sonic 1
Haven't played in too long:
Chaotix(need to try this again), master system games(though I remember the MS games I have played to be rubbish).

Ah, alright, then. I've never played those games, so I don't have an honest opinion on them.

True, but adding a storyline isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as the story is a good one.

Then which did you download onto the wii?
@Badass:
True, but adding a storyline isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as the story is a good one.
But it wasn't, the story in the 3d sonic games has been universally derided.

Miyamoto had the right idea.

It is when you have a human girl playing tonsil hockey with a hedgehog.
-

Sonic 3D Blast. Which was horrible. So horrible that I deleted it from my Wii. The 3D games I was saying I liked with the story were the Adventure games, and not all the 3D sonic Games. But, 3D Blast. No.
I do remember having the Sonic Adventure 1 Gamecube re-release, which had demos of old Sonic Games. I played the one where Tails was playable for the first time. (Was it 3?) That was enjoyable, if I remember correctly, but it's been a long time since I played it, though.

It worked for the Mario Games, I guess, considering how good the reviews for Galaxy 2 are.
But I dunno, something about the Adventure games drew me in as a kid and I always liked them, but maybe it's the nostalgia talking.It is when you have a human girl playing tonsil hockey with a hedgehog.
Saywhanow?
-
I think Sonic demonstrates to a degree what may have happened to the Mario franchise if they did inject story. A lot of it is just so trite and stupid that it actually detracts from the experience.
-
Oh great. Another lame furry game.
-
@Badass:
Saywhanow?
S1mJ9atk3dE .
-
Darkstorm, did you ever play Robotnik Bean Machine?
-
S1mJ9atk3dE .
Yea…but I was talking about the Adventure Series/Heroes/Shadow stories. Not the 3D games as a whole. Like I said before, the four 3D games I mentioned have pretty good storylines, BUT
@Badass:
The games after that… not so much
-
Darkstorm, did you ever play Robotnik Bean Machine?
No since it was just a puyo puyo clone with sonic cartoon graphics.
I imagine it's good(hard to screw up a puyo puyo game), but I didn't really have a great deal of money to spend on games back then, so puzzle games were pretty much at the bottom of my list.
-
Great:
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic 3
& KnucklesGood:
Heroes
The first thirty minutes of Shadow
Adventure 1
Daytime Unleashed levels.(No Darkstorm, I don't care about the damn camera)
Bad:
Everything after Shadow's first thirty minutes
Adventures 2
Werehog levels.Really fucking bad:
'06
The last ten minutes of ShadowThere's my parameters.
-
@Badass:
Sonic 3D Blast.
Nobody liked 3D Blast.
It was their first attempt at a 3D Sonic game.
And probably proof they shouldn't have made the attempt.

Travellers tales made 3d blast. I think sonic team were trying to make Xtreme at the time.
@Cyan:
(No Darkstorm, I don't care about the damn camera)
And the camera doesn't care about you either.
-
And the camera doesn't care about you either.
I should have figured that after it didn't call me back.
-
It was too busy repeatedly ramming into a wall you had already passed by on your way to your date with a bottomless pit of death.

O_O….Puyo...Puyo?
googles
.....I'm going to be away for a little bit.
-
I saw a vid from 06… What is up with Sonic dying? Does a story in a Sonic universe need angst like that?
-
Oh well, I'm sure this game will please the furry fandom.
-

That wasn't even a Sonic game. It was some other game (I think it was called Flicker or something) that they just inserted Sonic into.
-

You mean Flickies island, that was just a subtitle for the game. The flickies were the birds you saved.
It was a proper sonic game as far as I know, simply not made by sonic team.
-

Don't be disrespecting the furs. Seriously, those guys have fucking balls of steel.

No, I'm talking about this.
kA4VFxfiORg
And it was indeed called Flicky.
-
This was a ground-up sonic game that for whatever reason Sega decided would have those characters in as a side show along with themes from the game.
A bit far away from saying sonic was "inserted" into it, this wasn't a dinosaur planet situation.
-

I welcome fun challenges.

Well, you have to admit that the gameplay mechanics are pretty much the same (aside from the enemies, boss battles, chaos emerald stages, and it being, you know, 3D)
-
….
At first I was like :l
Then I was like :o
AND THEN XD I rolled on the floor as what the crap is Sega doing! -
Their MAKING a NEW game, thats what!
-
I wish Long John Baldrey was still alive.
That man is the only one worthy enough to voice Robotnik.
-
@Cyan:

:sad:
Don't remind me. Regardless of anyone's opinion of his ability to due Robotnik's voice, he was a good man.
-
Actually, there's a lot more to this trailer than I thought. Quite a bit more confirmed that I initially thought, maybe we can be making judgements about this game already:
http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/29529 -
Flicky also had a Tetris style came, where ocassionalyl you would clear a line to get a powerup, which would then give you a flicky with a canon to destroy more blocks with.
Flicky was something of a side Sega franchise, I'd assume.
-
Hell, I remember a stage in Adventure 2 I couldn't beat because the camera angle was so bad I didn't know where to go.
-
So this game is basically a remake of Little Nemo for the NES, right?
-
Don't forget about running so fast, you fall through the floor of a level.
I think GamesRadar did a bit on post-Genesis Sonic games. Sonic Adventure scored highly when it was first released on Dreamcast, but when it was re-released on the Gamecube, it was considered mediocre.
And there is no way in hell Shadow was a good game. That was Sega's poor attempt to make Sonic dark and badass. I'm pretty sure Sega just threw darts at a bulletin board full of action cliches and called it a day.
SA2 had its merits, like skateboarding down a hill being chased by a giant truck, but that was a copy/paste from SA1's whale chase. It was fun until you realize how painfully boring all the stages are outside of Sonic and Shadow's..plus there is the Pumpkin Hill rap, yo.
-
@robbybedfart:
So this game is basically a remake of Little Nemo for the NES, right?
Yeah, but probably without the being good.
-
So, was I a fool for thinking Sonic 4 was a sign Sega was starting to get it?!
At least the soundtrack will likely be worth a download…
-
@robbybedfart:
Nobody liked 3D Blast.
It was their first attempt at a 3D Sonic game.Whoa whoa, I loved 3D Blast. I got it for the PC 12 years ago (or something) and I loved it!
I also have to say the PC-version is much better than the Sega Saturn one.
It was very great back then and the best thing that could´ve happen to me after playing the Genesis/Mega-Drive games dead as a kid.The huge Sonic 06 mistake was, that they made the same levels for every damn character. Silver slowed everybody down.
That and a few minor story issues.One of the ,Great, Good, Bad´-lists was pretty accurate. Unleashed daytime levels were not half as bad as the werehogs.
And it´s going to be the same WOWLOOKSNEWOHSHITNOWAITFUCKTHISGAMEIT´SBADNOIT´SNOT -drama with SONIC COLORS.
The whole damn same thing.
I don´t trust Sega´s Sonic the Hedgehog anymore.
No. -

No.More posts need rainbow text.
Maybe I'd get a seizure from it and forget about Shadow the Hedgehog.
-
Way I see it, Sonic Team's feeling a lot of pressure after seeing how Dimps is handling Sonic 4.
It seems to me it's just Sonic Galaxy Carnival. Now we wait to see what the hell gimmick they intend to throw at us at E3. Sonic turns into a rainbow, where he changes colors, which have their own powers, to deal with certain situations in each stage. I'M CALLING IT!
-
Wait a minute. This a remake of Megaman, right?
-
@robbybedfart:
Wait a minute. This a remake of Megaman, right?
No. That's the Megaman and Metroid crossover I'm waiting for.
sigh
Someday! ~When we are wiser….
-
I have a very bad feeling about this…
Hopefully this will at least come out decent.....hopefully.
-
This game won't be very good.
Let's be honest here.
-
Sonic fans nerd-rage is always justified and never gets old.
