@Sammsy:
what selfish pretences?
she likes luffy and wants to see him safe. She is always been showed to be worried over him. Is it selfish to join him and try to protect him?
Isn't that part of most Jimbei's supporters argument, that Jimbei is going to join to protect Luffy for his promise to Ace?
What did Zoro join for? He liked Luffy and wanted to be strongest swrodsman
Sanji liked Luffy and wanted to find All-Blue
Usopp liked luffy and wanted to be brave man, and so on.
Everyone in crew has had 2 reasons. First they like luffy enough to join his crew versus go alone or anyone else out there, and second they had their own selfish reasons for going on voyage, whether being strongest swordsman or finding all blue or mapping world.
hancock likes luffy and wants to at least for now we know protect luffy and i guess marry him.
And who cares about Oda's end results for being noble strawhat or not. The strawhats actions of wanting VIVI regardless of what it may or may not do for her country was all that mattered. Vivi not joining doesn't make the strawhats somehow more noble and honest.
If you have the intention of killing someone and you say throw them off a cliff and later find out that they managed to live, it doesn't somehow make you innocent and a good person. Luffy lets people he likes make their own decisions, well sort of since at least after zoro he has. He won't force hancock to stay or leave, he will leave it up to her if he wants her to join.
that in itself is his intentions, hancock refusing and protecting her island or accepting and putting her island in danger changes nothing in respect to luffy's intentions.
YOU are missing the point about Vivi, she didn't join and that means she COULDNT have joined, the entire story clearly spelled out ahead of time that she wouldn't join. Her joining would completely contradict the rest of the arabasta story.
I understand this was not the strawhats active decision, but then again they are only ink blots on a piece of paper…. the point is that Oda was making a statement about morality and such, and the straw hats can't simpley make decisions without Oda...
If you want i can prove to you that every reason for any decision anyone makes is ultimately selfish, but theres a difference between doing what you want, and neglecting your duties because of doing what you want.
Zoro also states that he has nothing better to do.
nami actually betrays the crew in order to save her people and only joins once that is taken care of.
robin had nothing better to do.
Vivi had a country that would crumble without her
franky joined after his past was sorted out (and his past directly pointed him toward joining the crew)
brooke needs to see laboon
Boa could condemn her entire country to death by leaving.
so boa fits into the "not joining the crew" catagory
Also remember that initial characters like zoro and ussop are bad characters to use for these examples considered Oda had writen about 1/10th of the show when these characters joined the crew.
Furthermore no one tells Boa she has to protect Luffy, and if fact he doesnt really need it. Jimbei is made to promise to a dying Ace that he will take care of Luffy.... thats a little more serious than just "oh he could use Boa's help... maybe"
I must study for math tests now, but i feel like the only ones still clinging to the boa joining the crew idea are the people who really want her to join, and to you i say, try thinking about the fact that you might be biased toward boa joining. someone who really wants something a certain way will find a way to make it so
