Money doesn't buy you happiness, and I learned to live with not being able to buy all the figures I want =/= being unhappy, but cosplay is pretty much my social life right now. I hang out with mostly people I cosplay with/have met at conventions. Most of them have jobs and have the freedom to go and do as they please. I don't, at first I did have the money but not the flexibility of time, and now I have the time but no money DX
I bitch about money because cosplay is my release, which goes in hand with conventions. When I can more easily afford a convention halfway across the country then I can one in my own town, I'm pissed off. I'm also pissed my friends ideas of fun usually involve spending loads of money, which i don't have the luxury to do. They won't come over and see me, then gripe that i'm unavailable =_=
@CoralSnake:
@Arei I don't go to conventions because I can't afford them or because I spend all my money on figures D: I can't go to conventions because I'd have to take off work which work would start to think I'm not serious about work when I take off every other weekend to go to all the conventions going on. Plus, in some cases because my sis and I live so far away, we'd have to take off 5 days in a row… that means they'd have to have someone cover my shift for 5 days, and my sisters OVER NIGHT SHIFT for 5 days... and that seriously drives them INSANE and they get so freaked out even thinking about it.
So I'm saying I'm envious of all you guys who get to go to like 10 conventions a year, even if you don't go the entire weekend you can still say 'yeah I went to this, that this that this that' I mean you guys even say 'man this was boring!' because you went to so many xDD I guess I'm glad that my sis and I can't go to so many that we get bored of it cause I find conventions a release from this shitty town I'm in and I usually enjoy them even if there's asshole downers trying to ruin things.
But you don't have to take off to go to EVERY convention. I'm sure you can get 2-3 in a year that are decently spaced apart.
I got out of work for a convention that fell on a busy weekend before. But I understand you don't want to look like a bad employee, that's totally reasonable. I was paranoid because the night after my first day at Joanns, I came down with a bad stomach bug and was barely capable of moving for 2 days. No matter what it is, you're paranoid to miss too much work.
You need money, and while it's stupid if they got mad at you for taking off 2-3, even 4-5 weekends out of the 52 weekends a year to go to a convention, it happens XP I dealt with such retardation at joanns, but I quit because it was affecting the time I needed to spend on schoolwork.
So yeah, cherish conventions as your release time, it makes them all the more worth it. They are like that to me, but they've lost their novelty, especially with assholes ruining bits and pieces all the time. Acen will be (almost) asshole free for the most part ;D
I could go on and on and bitch about that yeah, A-Kon is too fucking expensive. I could do it ALL THE TIME, but that makes you guys feel bad, because I atleast have the option of driving, or if not driving myself (because I cant afford parking) having my mom take me down there/come get me in a timely fashion. I am thankful I am close enough to get to so many conventions. Yes it is usually inconvenient to me because they are expensive and I don't feel I should spend that much to just go and stay in a hotel across town, but I DO get to go SOMEHOW.
