5 now? Marvel really like milking their cash cows eh?
-
Is Marvel Zombies a cash cow? Does it even matter?
I haven't read the first 2 MZ series, but read Vol. 3 and 4 (both written by Van Lente along with Vol. 5) and really enjoyed them. They made me like Machine Man/Aaron Stack which got me to finally reading Nextwave which I really enjoyed.
Vol. 3~5 all use Z-list characters for the most part and Van Lente uses them pretty well. -

@Rican- Yeah I don't give a fuck about that, if the writing's good then that's all that matters to me really.

@Tizok: of course it matters if they are being cash cows, hey are more likely to create crap then. I though Marvel Zombies was fine at 5 issues then they made it go on and on…
Anyway I have started reading Warren Ellis's FreakAngels. The series is buyable in trade paperbacks but the best bit is that all the issues are online for free at www.freakangels.com.

Except…it isn't crap. Or rather it's been pretty fun for the past few series. Read it and see for yourself. They can make as many of them as they want, but to me it all comes down to who's writing it.

I discovered this series a year ago and it friggin' rocks. I had only read Vol. 1 though, but am kinda lazy to catch up with the online issues ^_^;

I have better things I read considering my funds are so low atm.
Anyway I'm working my arse off on my dissertation atm but the face that I'm posting indicates I'm having a break. Yeah I really want to read more soon, if I go at my Jojo reading speed I should be caught up soon haha.

I bought Brightest Day # 0 today, I have to say I was bored to tears reading this issue. I hope it gets better.
I thought the new flash was okay.

im reading best of the Spirit, Our gang and Gotham City: in the line of duty.
and a graphic novel of Dean Koontzs In Odd We trust -

I thought the new flash was okay.
it was just the prologue
like 52 it will show several stories, some might be more interesting than others
im very interested in the Hawkman/Hawkwoman, Osiris and the Aquaman story
not to mention on what will happen to the White Battery -
Oh well the next time I see Brightest Day if I ever do will be in the graphics if I get them in a few years, by which time I will be out of touch with American comics since I will be in Japan. With the exceptions of those I want now but can't afford atm like Preacher, Transmetropolitan, Y the Last Man, Fables etc.
-
I just received Marvel's Civil War along with "The Road to Civil War", it should be a good read :P.
I also have some Batman comics (Dark Knight Returns, Arkham Asylum, Long Halloween Absolute Edition, The Man Who Laughs, Son of the Demon, and Year One) and Watchmen Absolute Edition.
I'm still getting into comics, so it would be nice to know about epic arcs/story recommendations.
Also I'll be getting Captain America's omnibus and Green Lantern Rebirth. No DC/Marvel bias ;D.
-
Which characters are you interested in? It would appear you like batman, so if you don't mind spend money on a series of graphic novels, I suggest Cataclysm, which is a prologue to the 5 graphic novel No Man's Land. I'm not sure if there is an arc that acts as an epilogue to it, but somebody else might. i also enjoyed Knightfall, I believe it is 3 graphic novels long. The 3rd big batman event I enjoyed is the 3 graphic novel long War Games (started by War Drums, followed by War Crimes). However I have heard other people were less impressed with it than I, so I would check with others before buying it.
-
I will take note of those, and yup I pretty much like batman, but I also used to enjoy X-men and Spiderman cartoons of the late 90s :P. And also I'm pretty open to any other characters as long as the story is good =].

I really like how they're focusing on Deadman but I will agree, it was kind of boring. Definite setup material that you don't have to read to understand the Brighest Day even but I'm sure it will help down the line.
I bought the new Flash comic but haven't read it yet. It's on my list of 'things I need to do today'.

I read the first of Morrison's Batman & Robin trades the other day. A refreshing read it was. I really hope Dick and Damian stay as Batman and Robin because they've got a great chemistry. I'd also love to see this set up made into an animated series or film, but that is probably asking too much.
-
Morrison's Batman and Robin rocks! I'm waiting on Issue 11 to drop next week with Green Lantern 53. How many issues does the trade cover? Hardcover obviously?
-
Yeah, it's hard. I believe it covered up to #6, which I think is where the Red Hood/Scarlet arc ends.
-
I used to be a Morrison hater, but after spending a good hour and a half rereading and studying the minor details of the last 2 issues, looking for clues, I've become a fan. I'm not sure how I feel about RIP now, but I can't wait for B&R 12.

So slightly comic book related, but it looks like Joss Whedon will direct the upcoming Avengers movie. Thoughts? Personally, I'm now looking forward to it even more.

What else has he directed? Also, I believe I heard that Chris Evans (my teachers brother/ Human Torch) is going to play Captain America. I know that fox (or somebody else, just not marvel) has the movie rights to Fantastic Four, but I think they still should have avoided casting the same guy for 2 of their characters, incase they ever did get the Fantsatic Four back.
-
What else has he directed?
Dollhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly. Mostly awesome TV shows, especially Dollhouse, so I'm very pleased with this selection. He's also writing the Captain America movie which I'm really psyched for!
-
Fox is rebooting Fantastic Four anyhow, so I suppose they didn't see any reason.
-
There are some great series out there, I just think Marvel and DC are fucking it up atm. Brightest Day sounds fairly done and the X-men is just going downhill. And insofar as I am aware, everything Whedon touches is gold. I can only speak on behalf of Astonishing X-men and Runaways, I don't even have to refer to Buffy (I'm not a Buffy fan yet) to explain his awesomeness.

No, it's an interconnecting cover set. 6 covers.
1st set is Avengers Villains
2nd set is Avengers Academy
3rd set is New Avengers
4th set is The Avengers
5th set is Secret Avengers
6th set is Young AvengersThey are grouped together, it's pretty easy to tell who's on what team. The only one I am unsure of is Mockingbird who seems like she could be on New or Academy.

6 teams!? Jeez. And Villains are getting a book? Weird. I'll probably just check out New Avengers, since that one has quite a few people I really like (and with her monthly gone, I need a Ms Marvel fix), but I might get an odd issue here and there of plain Avengers, just for Captain America and Thor. The others don't have anyone I'd want to follow.
-
Villains are getting a book but Dark Avengers imo was way better than New Avengers. Although the Dark Avengers won't be continuing for much longer, as Norman Osborn has shown his true colurs again.
As for that montage RuNa, since when was Nova one of the Avengers? I haven't been keeping up with cosmic stuff so I haven't a clue, I thought it was a seperate thing.
-
^
He joins secret after Siege. Also, I don't think the villains are getting an ongoing, it may be a cover for a one shot or mini. The Young Avengers are getting a mini, the other 4 teams are ongoing
-
I might pick up young and academy. I don't really read that much marvel though, only Amazing spiderman and Ultimate Universe.
EDIT:I have a question, at the end of Wolverine (movie) did Nick Fury appear?

No Nick Fury at the end of X-men Origins: Wolverine.

Second of all, who here ever been to Midtown Comics in Manhattan?
-
Green Lantern 53 should be out today, and from what I've been told maybe Batman and Robin 11 so I guess I'm off to the comic book shop to find out!
-
New Young Avengers mini series is coming.
-
Dollhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly.
Also, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.
Oh, and Serenity.
-
spiderman`s O.M.I.T. will be a sequel of OMD
it will feature how exactly was all retconed
and it will be written by Quesada himself -
…......
...yeah, I don't know how to respond to that.
"and this is how I returned Spiderman back to the way that
the readersI wanted!" -
Has anyone read Devil? (lmao I think it goes in this thread) I read #1-3 yesterday and it's…not too bad. In a sort of generic way. The art isn't too terrible.
