no Thornado in the movie >_>
Sigh. Had a feeling this was gonna happen at some point in the series. Oh well.
For movie news (well old news), here's a high(er) quality version of Obama visiting Dreamworks where you can see the clip better.

This week's episode was a good Stoic focus ep. Tho unfortunately the obvious "out" for no Thornado in the movie >_>
Seems a little silly that they needed to do that, given that theres a blatant time skip between films. I guess "why does his dad have a dragon" could be somewhat distracting, especially if they focus on the kids all having them, and only the kids… but.... timeskip. Don't thin it'd be that difficult to figure out, even without having seen the episode.
What a penultimate episode. Curious how it'll all wrap up next week.
Spoilers for the episode within the tag.
! This is a pretty epic way to bring back all the various story lines. Even the dragon root coming back was pretty cool. And seeing the Vikings do their Viking thing was a nice treat.
! Only clunky bit was Alvin's "redemption". I think they were trying to make it a parallel with Snotlout and his actions, but still seems a bit rushed in the end even if this was just the 1st part of a two-parter and they'll probably get more into it next episode. But this season definitely went the right way making Dagur the main villain. And the Screaming Death was a fun "things can get crazier at any moment" bit lurking in the background too.
! Oh they're definitely not done with the Alvin thing. We still don't know what it was he did to get exiled in the first place. And like Gobber said, Alvin is all about treachery.
I'm really glad the trailers for the episode were largely misleading regarding the actual, plot of the episode.
DAT TEXTURE DETAIL!
Its so weird that every one of the guys but Hiccup is going the stubble route.
I mean, obviously they're going to grow into big bearded vikings and all… but still weird. And awkward looking on most of them.

Hiccup was always an exception anyway. I mean, he was always scrawny. I can totally believe he'd be the exception, growing up to be a thin, pretty boy who can't grow a single hair on his face or chest to save his life.
Shit, I want to see them grown up. I want to see grown up Astrid, looking like Lady Stark with a warn and angry look. She'd be ready to slam an axe into anyone's skull at the ready.
I don't mean it's weird that Hiccup isn't growing stubble. It'd look bad on him anyway. Its weird that everyone else IS, and it looks doofy on most of them.

Well, they've said pretty much from the start they wanted to do it as a trilogy… and that they're timeskipping the once means... maybe!
Course they also said Kung Fu Panda would be six movies. Which I could see happening, long as it doesn't screw up along the way and taint the whole line like Shrek 3 did.
I WANNA SEE GROWN UP TWINS RIGHT NoW
[hide][/hide]
Actually if you look carefully you can see Hiccup does have a little bit of stubble on the bottom of his chin.
I look carefully and all I see is an empty spoiler box.
Oh goddammit. (should be) Fixed.
Yeah okay, just a bit.
His doesn't look doofy like everyone else's.

DROOLS.
Man I love Dreamworks.
This week we got the season (series?) finale of the show. Kinda wrapped up most of the dangling plot lines. Well outside of Daggur, but whatever. I'm glad they upped the quality in the second season, but still kinda miffed they "status quo'd" Thornado and Ruffnut's hair.
Ah well. Lookin forward to the next movie!
Group Shot!!!
!
! Ruff's hair!!!
! Kinda odd that only Meatlug is fully visible. I mean we can see Hookfang's tail, Stormfly's torso, Toothless' wing and none of Barf/Belch but they all just kinda…disappear behind the kids. Like the Dragons were just a promo-art afterthought.
Looks to me like a promo image that was designed for a wide shot but then cropped for whatever outlet put that out.
Hahaha. I love Tuffnut's dreads. Another way of making him look different from his sister. And is it me or is Ruffnut's face . . . . . pointier than before?

I think its a safe bet this is part of a 3 Poster large poster set. With Dragons, side characters, and new characters on the other sets.

Yeah, her face was rounder at the jawline before.
Mildly spoilerish interview with director:

What stood out the most to me in this pic is the smug look on Snotlout's face paired with the rather interesting choice of a leather .. crotch protector.
So I just watched the last few episodes in one go and something that has been bothering me is how toothles suddenly has a shot limit. He didn't have one in the movie as he shot at least 7 blasts against the red death or whatever that huge dragon is called. But that is just a careful estimate. I would be able to get to 10 at least if I counted every slight flash we see.
Is this just a mistake on the film teams or on the series teams part or did they decide on the limit later?

He had bolt blasts AND fire blasts.
Its also possible that he has weak and strong versions of each. So 6 powerful shots meant to damage, but more weaker ones used only for distraction.
Is there an episode where it is easy to see such an distinction? I always saw the same kind of purple lightning/fire/plasma blast whenever toothless shoots. And i also don't think that it matters whether a dragon shoots with all his strength or tries to distract somebody it would still count for a shot limit.

The movie. He makes fire all the time, and its clearly distinct from the blue bolt blasts.
Promo Stills for How To Train Your Dragon 2.
Nice to see in actual screenshots the crazy stubble all the boys have is much more subdued.
I think I'm at about the point I just don't want to know or see anything more before the film comes out though.
…which is still months away. Sigh.
And here's an actual clip from the movie that works well as a teaser since it doesn't reveal much of anything.
! Though I guess it does reveal the main soundtrack melodies from the first movie will likely be prevalent in the sequels
Just 11 weeks till the movie, though in my defense the date holds more significance to me than just the sequel premiere…it's also 22 Jump Street's premiere!
Gobber's got a dragon now! (?) It's named Grump.
Awwwwww! I knew it would only be a matter of time before Gobber got a dragon. Although it also seems kinda sad now that Thornado is gone.
Final trailer is out! Don't watch if you're weary of spoilers, it shows a LOT.
Yup, there were some spoilers. But not too many. I couldn't resist.
Eh. I feel like I already know too much from the last trailer. I'll try to hold out the remaining 2 months without trailer-ing.
I adored the first film and this ones shaping up to be just as thrilling as the first. So many good movies this year.
@Rob:

All I'll say is Ruffnut has one line, and it's as hilarious as you'd expect.
there is a new trailer out and i will not watch it
aaaaaaaaaaaa
these two months are going to kill me
aaaaand here's Thornado's replacement. No name yet (at least the article I got the image from didn't say like it did with Gobber's dragon)
!
Woah. It looks like a freaking Triceratops. The question is: did he get it before or during the movie?
I have to hand it out to them the dragon designs for this franchise are enjoyably varied and fresh.
Hey pals, here you go with the first 5 minutes of the movie: https://movies.yahoo.com/video/train-dragon-2-first-five-153007023.html

I watched it :D I couldn't resist. Holy crap! ^_^
Hahah, it's gorgeous, guys. There's almost no spoils, seriously. It's just beautiful and rises even more the expectations for the whole thing…oddly, it's less spoilers than the trailer, hehe.
I was pleasantly surprised to see
! Fishlegs as well as Snoutlout competing for Ruffnut's attention
If you want latest trailers and poster images Dreamworks How to Train Your Dragon game site(www.schoolofdragons.com) has been updating new content. Think they are pushing more promo materials through their game site.
A couple clips and a featurette:
never saw the first one but I saw the preview for the second one before Godzilla and man did it look amazing
You really need to see the first one to appreciate and really understand the second one. That, and the first one is amazing.
never saw the first one but I saw the preview for the second one before Godzilla and man did it look amazing
Don't get onto the internet again until you've seen the first movie. Don't come here, don't talk to anyone, do nothing else. Just see it ASAP.
Just came back from seeing the sequel and I thought it was pretty fantastic. It's really hard to talk about without spoiling, but for a sequel to such a great movie it does not disappoint. I'm glad I stayed in a media blackout for this.
! I really loved the whole friendship versus intimidation theme with the dragons. Drago was a very effective villain and his methods made him all the more despicable. I really wish he had a bit more of a character focus, though. We know he must have lost a lot, but all of that is more vaguely implied with the notion that dragons hurt everyone. He must have lost a lot, though, to go as far as he did.
! I had a feeling that Stoick wasn't going to make it through the movie, but I was still struggling to hold back the tears on that. He was a great character and his death held impact as vast as his name.
! I still don't know how I feel about Hiccup's mom. I liked her character and it was certainly a surprise to see that she was alive this whole time, but for her to have been training dragons all along I felt took a bit away from Hiccup's accomplishment in taming dragons. I guess he can stand to spare a heroic deed, though, from the pile he's been racking up.
! I could have sworn that the movie was going to end with Hiccup taming the alpha, but I think it was great for Toothless to establish himself as a leader and do his breed's reputation justice. I'm also loving the growth and attention Toothless is getting in general The writers have done a really good job balancing the attention given to the humans and dragons.
! I'm fully expecting a third movie, since this really felt like a pivot episode with all of the worldbuilding and character developments. Is there word on this being a trilogy?
