This whole poll arc is why gintama is awesome and it is sad that most people overlook this manga/anime. Gintama can easily owned bleach and naruto if people give it a chance. Also, the whole scene with Sadaharu and Elizabeth fighting ^_^b

Sigh, I read this series till chapter 60 until I found out that there are patches of untranslated raws in between. Didn't have the heart to read anymore which is a shame because I really liked it:(

Just buy the Viz versions: sure it has a couple jokes missing (friend said they cut out a couple stabs at Bleach in one of the recent volumes) but it's pretty good with it's translations.

Considering what is planned the next month or so, Sunrise may have no choice but to end it. Such a shame considering that stuff like Bleach can go on indefinite hiatus with anime filler then come back, yet Gintama may end with the movie as a send off…it's like there really is no justice in the world.
BTW: as for where Viz is: the recent volume just finished Kyuube and ends with the short (but important) Mitsuba arc. The volume coming out in January is Mitsuba and has a few notable one-shots and short stories (the Ryo-2 incident, the Hard-Boiled detective), then March will be the first Tama arc and the start of the Owii story.

Remind me, is the Mitsuba arc w/ the dating? Seriously, but their is no way this will cancel. The DVD's, from what I have heard, is doing great, and I think the average TV rating is about 3.9-4.5 million, which is nothing to sneeze at (theres so much other ones that doesn't even get that close)
Anyway, vol 15 reaches 130, and it just came out recently (17 days ago to be exact) in english, w/ 16 coming out sometime in Jan 2010

! Basically it's a story involving Okita's sister dying of TB and revealing the backstory as to why he hates Hijikata so much.
As for reading the scans (if that's your thing): if you look on Mangafox, it is getting closer and closer to pretty much being caught up. The series is pretty much non-stop from Itou/Shinsengumi Rebellion on at this point and it is getting closer to closing the gap with the earlier part of the series.
And as for the anime ending: it's not about popularity anymore, it's just about running out of content. Sunrise was actually going to end it back in March of this year but considering how huge the series is now in Japan (heck, even the OVA set is beating a lot of bigger fan-hype anime), it got a 4th year. But at this point, they're just so, so close that they really have no real choice but to end the anime unless they want to go into some filler arc.

I'm on episode 24 now, the ending of episode 22 is one of the most bizzare moments ever in my opinion. As I'm watching episode 24 right now seeing Gin in drag is scary. xD

Well knowing the studio, it could be a joke. But I don't think the anime is going to end soon. They always make jokes and even fool people into thinking that the anime was over. So I don't think they are not going to stop working on the anime yet.

HAHAHA, speaking of drag, I just finished episode 111 where one part was w/ drags…really hilarious. Also since last week I cont from season 4 primiere, after a long break. 101-04 was quite the nice ones

I have the first 6 manga volume and the storys can sometimes be hit and miss but storys involving Katsura and Hasegawa always brighten my day.

Just so long as the manga isn't near it's end. Aside from ONE PIECE and Jaguar, Gintama is the only JUMP manga I still have interest in.

Quick Question: How good are the Crunchyroll subs? Are they a viable alternative to the fansubs or a rush job that can't convey the nuances of the series?

The crunchyroll subs are ok, they do overly-translate stuff that should really be left as is, and they do miss some references and such. Though they put in most notes and such and don't make many mistakes.
Course Rumbel's really slow… and I should know because I'm in their group. But I only do one job and it's at the beginning of the process, TL-checking.

Superb news. Gintama is still my favourite series coming out of Japan, and I was beginning to think it was never going to get a western release.
Not too bothered about the lack of a dub, doubtful I'd have listened to it anyway.

Mm, yeah, that. I wrote up a long post elsewhere about the countdown they've been doing on the episode titles and the hint they dropped in the latest ending. Basically, Shinpachi's diploma says the date of graduation is March 25, 2010 (Thursday), and by episode 201 when the countdown reaches #1, it will be March 25. Apparently (I haven't looked it up or anything) this big Gintama event is taking place during the airing of episode 201 so…
Almost an exact month later is the movie. So if we believe that 2ch to be true, the reunion will be in the fall...
And hey, Jii-san, they fixed his balls at the end, didn't they?

It would seem it's just going on hiatus according to rumors that've propped up since then. Gintama is insanely popular, the OVA was the most popular OVA last year overall, manga's selling better and better…
It's likely they just wanted to only do canon episodes leading up to the movie. And a whole bunch of other explanations. Those rumors said it would probably go on hiatus until the Fall for the manga to get farther ahead, which does happen with popular animes sometimes. But they do seem to be going though the current manga chapters really fast, the new ED has the Seimei arc in it which ended like 3 weeks before it started. -
I am totally buying the DVDs when they are out, hope we get quite a few episodes with each release.
Also hope they do what some fan subs do and point out the references to other shows.

Sucks that we aren't getting a dub for the show. I'll buy the dvds down the line, but I'm just going to continue watching it on Crunchyroll. Since I'm only up to Episode 31 right now.
God I love the Shinsengumi since they are just awesome characters.

Yes! Gintama and One Piece are the only Jump titles that I have fell in love with. When ever I read the manga I imagine Gintoki has the voice or Mugen from Samurai Champloo or Spike from Cowboy Bebop (their the same voice n_n)

Gintama's anime is ending at episode 201 in March.
Then it'll be on hiatus for a temporary amount of time until a "part 2" kind of second anime starts. Probably a while like 6 months to a year or so. I'm hoping Rumbel can catch up by then.Plus the movie comes out in April. The Benizakura -A New Translation- movie.

There's an english translated version a fan's doing, but has some slight errors, you should still get the idea, even if the tone and choice of words is a bit bad. Plus it's obviously some several hours behind the guy's current stuff.

Why is it that other japanese anime can't smartly plan out their screen time? Apparently, once a franchise, you can't stop the money-making process.

Actually, with Gintama you usually can't tell the difference between canon and filler because it's so episodic there are plenty of one-episode fillers and canon episodes.
I gotta try to fill in for Bomber D. Rufi on the translations while he's out cuz his hard drive's broken …
