When people whine about whining, the Irony Fairy gets a huge erection…
FUNi's Simulcast = No Need for Fansubs
-
-
If Funi started streaming HD or have them for download, then i might reconsider.
Anyone able to rip the FUni streams for download?
This is what I hate. Right here.
-
Are people honestly complaining about HD shit and not being able to download, please grow up
-
@mdmartin101:
Are people honestly complaining about HD shit and not being able to download, please grow up
But you know some people are so obsessed with video quality that they don't actually care about the anime itself.
Or that's what I've been led to believe. FUNimation's quality really isn't bad enough to be complaining all of that much. Especially since it's for free. They could be charging us for this, you know?
-
Aside from some initial trouble, with the solution just refreshing, This is the BEST deal. You spoiled brats need to appreciate what we have.
Enel have mercy on your soul

Well spread the mark you have through internet and then you will create a market base who will buy your mark stuffs like Figures, Shirts, and a bunch of other things, think like opening the gates to you sell more stuff instead of trying to sell just the tv show licenses for a bunch of comapanies. (Toei could do this)
The problem with this idea is that for streaming to work on a grand scale, you need to get sponsorship from outside the anime industry. Most streams out there have ads in the beginning that you cannot skip. Hulu (also unavailable outside the US, I know) has one at the beginning, middle, and end. With an anime episode, it puts them at the beginning, after the opening theme, where the eyecatch goes, and right before the ending theme. Commercials for the army, for Dell, for movies, etc.
While I understand that most of these products are available outside the US (I doubt you guys want to enlist in our army ) that doesn't mean that the companies want the same commercial played for every country. They spend millions of dollars for advertising, and they want to localize all of their ad campaigns.
I mean, have you ever seen the
? I'm sure she's sexy, but I also find the concept very creepy. Same goes for the Japanese baby Ronald. I'm sure the baby's cute, but it's also very, very creepy. But these ads weren't meant to appeal to me.EDIT: Anyway, I think it's alright for fansubs to still exist for those outside of the US and Canada to watch.
-
Downloads can be region-blocked too, the point of them would be for people that want them on their hard-drive, don't want to worry about buffering and traffic, and want an HD picture. Put it at a small fee for each episode or in "packs for a nominal fee and you've got a good deal.
I think you missed my point, putting up downloads would make it that much easier to get ripped, all they have to do is upload it.
This thread is pointless now :D
-
I think you missed my point, putting up downloads would make it that much easier to get ripped, all they have to do is upload it.
No it doesn't, that's what DRM is for. Honestly the only way to not let a rip happen is to not upload anything at all.
-
Like I said in the other thread:
The simulcast is shitty quality.
I click the link for the episode. Click play. And maybe click whatever banner they have on the page.
I consider that giving them my "support". It's not like they can tell if I watched the whole thing or not.
Then I download a nice HD version when it comes out from fansubbers. Ideally, somone who just copied the Funi tranlation and pasted it into an HD raw.
That becomes my archive copy.
-
Why do people "Need" Archive Copies though?
My DVDs are my Archive Copies.
And yeah, sorry, I know Lots of people keep going "Simulcast is Shitty Quality" Sorry, no.
It's not HD, but it's not "Shitty" Shut up. Considering Elric (Of Yibis) always talks about how the Colors and encoding of the HD raws he finds are often really bad, I'd expect FUNi would have gotten some kind of lossless master from Toei, so I'd assume the Simulcast would have all the proper colors and wouldn't suffer from any Quality issues outside of the Downsampling (which they have to do to make the Simulcast load quickly). What's more, Due to that, I'd assume FUNi ALSO wouldn't have those scrolling walls of Japanese text that beep and alert you about "Weather Reports" or special events in Japan.
And for the Loading. I've never had Saturdays off of work to Test out the Simulcast as it happens myself, but when I come home and play the episode about 3-4 hours after the ep goes live, it plays JUST FINE, not a SINGLE hiccup, and there's no pausing it to let it load. And the only major problems I've heard people talk about are Loading problems when people try to watch RIGHT after the Episode goes live.
I'm sorry, but 3-4 Hours after broadcast, you're lucky to find a Torrent for a RAW much less a completely subtitled Episode. Especially since most Fansubbers care more about Flashy Karaoke Effects than they do translation. Those Karaoke Effects actually cause the Fansubbers to take LONGER making it, but everytime a Fansub debate comes up, for SOME reason most fansub fans prefer them, so yeah…
Wait a few Hours till the Traffic Dies down and the FUNi stream works seamlessly Vs. Waiting 12 - 24 hours or so for the Fastest Fansub group to release, THEN wait the hour or so for the Torrent to download...
Why does the Fansub win this?
-
Why do people "Need" Archive Copies though?
My DVDs are my Archive Copies.
Because the DVDs cover less than 100 out of over 400 episodes.
-
I had completely forgotten about the weather alerts and stuff. Yeah, that's great FUNi's wont have that. God knows how many earth quakes Japan has. But in all honesty, I don't much watch the anime anymore beyond the random episode. I'm sorry, it's just too filler'd. Toei needs to shape up, ignore the fanbase's bitching, and just do like a 30 episode filler arc. One Piece needs breathing space… But this is for another topic.
@Captain Shmeckie: Do you realize just how fast FUNi is releasing the series? We are getting 13-14 episodes every 2-3 months now. That is insane speed. They'll be caught up in a few years.
-

Doesn't matter. I'm the first to say I'll ditch fansubs the minute the corresponding episode is dubbed, but since FUNimation hasn't dubbed Amazon Lily, and since the simulcast has inconsistencies and dirty Weeaboo Words that the fansubs don't (never thought I'd see THAT day, lemme tell ya), fansubs make for nice videos to have on hand for the time being.

That doesn't make any sense, fansubs in general scream inconsistency.
-
Yibis has been pretty solid. S'why I mainly stick with them.
-
Wait, do you literally mean that if the simulcast is dubbed, THEN you'll stop using fansubs?
-
I mean when they dub an episode, I ditch the fansub of those episodes. So the fansubs of the episodes contained in FUNi's current releases are dead to me (and since it was K-F, good riddance). New episodes outta Japan, though? Fansubs'll do until FUNi catches up.
-
So far… Haki is the only weeaboo term FUNi uses...
With Fansubs you still have to put up with "Nakama", "Gomu Gomu no", "Hebihime-sama", "Sanjyuuroku Pondo Hou" (even Though he's already saying "Pound" in English) "Baka", "Ossan", "Nii-san" and of course, ANNOYING FLASHY KARAOKE EFFECTS!!!
Every fansub out there now does at least one or two of these things. And they're ALL more annoying and happen more often than Haki.
-
So far… Haki is the only weeaboo term FUNi uses...
And that annoys me, and since I have options to watch the show without this, why shouldn't I take that option?!

I must again reitterate that I use Yibis. So I do not have this problem. Karaoke effects are dumb as hell, but not exactly annoying.
-
Yeah honestly I feel at this point most fans countering against this simulcast are just fans that like to complain.
-
Whatever floats your boat, then.
-
And that annoys me, and since I have options to watch the show without this, why shouldn't I take that option?!
Yeah but… Episode 415 is the last time the term comes up...
! I mean, Luffy used it once in Impel-Down, but it was never named there… Bon-Chan just goes "What was that?..."
That's like saying "I hated how they translated Captain Kuro's attacks, so I'm not gonna watch Episode 415+ By them."
-
And by that time, the simulcast failed to get me interested in it. I'm a patient man, I don't need instant gratification. Hell, when the simulcast DOES run, I'm usually doing something else at the time. Besides, it's nice to have the episodes on my computer, so I can watch 'em whenever, and send chunks of 'em to my friend who's also into the show and watches it via said chunks.
-

So… It "Failed to get you interested" because of One Word...
That Word hasn't been used in the Manga for Several, SEVERAL Chapters and it doesn't look like it's coming back anytime soon... So you won't be seeing it again...
And FUNi's simulcast is ALWAYS up, they don't remove old Episodes, Heck the Fist of the North Start Streaming has like 105+ Episodes up IIRC... So you could always go up and watch those... and sending them to your friends would probably be EASIER since they're already online...People not supporting Legal releases makes me sad...
If you live outside the US, sure, you have a good reason... but this...
-
most people watch the episode about a 18 hours after airing
-
And by that time, the simulcast failed to get me interested in it. I'm a patient man, I don't need instant gratification.
Doesn't sound like it when one term being left untranslated turned you off.
-
And I have another option where said word isn't an issue. So, I'm taking that option. I don't care which is the "legal" way. FUNimation has plenty of my money already, so I won't be losing any sleep over missing a free streaming of a show I can get in HD with Haki translated.
That's how the market works. I found a better product, I'm going with that one.
Doesn't sound like it when one term being left untranslated turned you off.
That makes no sense.

Why does the Fansub win this?
Because humans are creatures of habit.
We've been watching fansubs ever since the beginning and most of us don't prefer streams.
Seriously, how ungrateful do you sound? You've only made it this far with One Piece through the hard-work and dedication of these fansub groups you are so eager to do away with. If you prefer the simulcast, fine, but no one cares.
This thread is pointless. I'm sure everyone (including Funimation) is well aware that fansubs aren't going anywhere. As long as they aren't ripping the streams, I don't see why they can't coexist. It's thanks to fansubs that their product has a market in the first place.
-
-
I did before the stream went down. When I heard Haki was untranslated, I didn't go back when it came back.
-

Yeah FUNimation knows that, that's why they're doing the simulcast. And fansubs creating the market? Yes and no. Fansubs certainly helped develop the fanbase but now the industry is suffering everywhere. And honestly how many fans who are on the Internet today didn't get into anime through edited dubs on T.V.? This might sound annoying, but 4kids and the original release of "Pokemon" was what created the market today.
-

when you say flashy karaoke effect are you talking about when luffy yells: gommu gommu no pistol!! and the words are twice as big and turn from red to green?
-

The Word is no longer an Issue starting with Episode 416 for Any release of the episode. They stopped using it in the Manga at that point.
Meanwhile, Fansubs you'll always have to put up with "Gomu Gomu no" that moves and bounces. Which also happens FAR More often than Haki ever did.
Yes, better product.
@Kiz:
Seriously, how ungrateful do you sound? You've only made it this far with One Piece through the hard-work and dedication of these fansub groups you are so eager to do away with. If you prefer the simulcast, fine, but no one cares.
Some people seem to have forgotten that the ORIGINAL point of Fansubs is to release episodes of a Show that don't have an alternative Legal, Uncut version. Not to have A version that leaves Nakama untranslated and has FLASHY KARAOKE EFFECTS.
And Also, I'm sorry, but
1: This thread is CALLED "FUNi Simulcast = No Need for Fansubs", I'm sorry I'm posting my opinion about how the Simulcast Affects Fansubs in a thread named "FUNi Simulcast = No Need for Fansubs"2: If you'll read my posts, I've already said Fansubs aren't going anywhere and as long as there's fans of the series outside the US, there's a reason for them. So kindly stop acting like I'm some kind of ungrateful bitch.
when you say flashy karaoke effect are you talking about when luffy yells: gommu gommu no pistol!! and the words are twice as big and turn from red to green?
Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about.
When the anime directors made One Piece, and When Luffy shouts out "Gomu Gomu no Pisutoru" they MEANT your Eye to be on Luffy's fist flying into someone's face.
When you see a subtitle for that, your eye is supposed to gravitate down long enough to know Luffy is saying "Gum Gum Pistol" and then get right back to the action.I highly doubt they intended your eye to hang onto "GO Go Gets big MU Mu gets big and the GO changes color GO 2nd Go Gets big MU 2nd Mu gets big and the GO changes colorNO (No gets big and the MU changes color* PI PI gets big SU Su Gets big TO *To Gets big RU Ru gets big"

Attack names don't come in the middle of sentences, act as terminology in the setting, and disrupt the flow of dialogue, so I can't bring myself to give a damn.
The stream had its chance for me, and it blew it. Hi-Def and Haki-less it is. Motionless text and "gum-Gum" hardly makes up for untranslated words mid-dialogue and inferior picture quality.
Okay that's what I meant when i said that doesn't make any sense.
And you're still not making sense. What does this have anything to do with me being willing to wait a few days for a fansub episodes, and not needing to watch the episode right away. Hell, it's all shit I've already seen in the manga anyway. I'm just watching it all to see it move with colors and sound.
-

aaaaw, I thought you were cool Shmeckie
-
And you're still not making sense.
Yeah I am. If you actually were patient you would've given the simulcast an actual chance to give yourself a good rundown of how they translated the whole episode instead of throwing it out the window just because someone else said they didn't use an actual translation of Haki.
-
I'm far more casual and lackidasial on the matter than you give me credit for.
And firecrouch, you twisting my words around isn't gonna change my mind. Dunno why you thought it would. I don't care about how fast I get the episode if I can get it in a quality and manner of presentation that suits my needs. Why is this such a difficult concept?!
"Because someone else said…" lol, as the kids say.
-
Yeah I am. If you actually were patient you would've given the simulcast an actual chance to give yourself a good rundown of how they translated the whole episode instead of throwing it out the window just because someone else said they didn't use an actual translation of Haki.
And to add to this, I don't understand why it's an issue for Episodes past 415.
It makes no Logical sense.
The Problem you have with FUNis stream literally goes away at this point.
That's like me saying "I'll never Watch Kaizoku-Fansubs' Work again because they leave Nakama in Japanese"
Then K-F does a news post saying "We're gonna stop leaving Nakama untranslated".
And then I still refuse to watch their releases
(I'm Just making an example, nobody jump on me for this) -
When the anime directors made One Piece, and When Luffy shouts out "Gomu Gomu no Pisutoru" they MEANT your Eye to be on Luffy's fist flying into someone's face.

I liked those the first couple of times but after awhile it does take away from the animation.
-
I don't need to watch or read any of this, so I'm much less patient on things like that. The biggest reason I haven't gotten into JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is that all the scans out there suck ass, and I don't feel like truding through horrible quality just to check out something.
Consider me the average consumer, not the hardcore fan. There's no need for me to watch FUNi's stream, so why should I? It obviously didn't prove to be the better product, so it didn't persuade me to switch to their subs. Simple as that.
-

All I'm asking you is why Haki is even a problem for you now, since Episode 415 is the last time we'll see the word for a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG Time, Even longer if Toei does Straw Hat separation Filler (which they should)
I mean yeah, it sucks they left it, but at the point we're at now, you could comfortably sit and watch every Episode FUNi releases from now on (Starting with 416) and never see the offending word.
So why is it a problem?
I liked those the first couple of times but after awhile it does take away from the animation.
That's the problem. The directors didn't intend your Eye to linger on the subtitles, they meant you to watch the Action going on onscreen.
So either you're ignoring the Flashy words and watching what you SHOULD be watching, Luffy beating the crap out of someone, so the Karaoke effects are pointless…
OR, you're paying attention to the bouncing "GOMU GOMU NO" Animation, and you're missing Luffy Jet Gattling Lucchi to all hell. -
Again; they failed to bring me in as an audience, so I have no need to switch to them. They offer nothing else besides text that doesn't move, and "Gum-Gum", two things that aren't dealbreakers for me.
Y'know how 4Kids fucked over One Piece's image in the American market, and many American anime fans' interest in it? It's like that, but with subs, and one guy on the internet. So it doesn't matter nearly as much. Except to me. Because I'm said one guy.
-
I'm far more casual and lackidasial on the matter than you give me credit for.

"Because someone else said…" lol, as the kids say.
Yeah well this is the Internet, if you're gonna pop into these discussions don't expect anything casual.
And I don't mean to twist your words, that's honestly how I'm interpreting them. But it sounds like when you're saying patient you mean just that you're patient enough to wait for fansubs, my mistake.
And yes, that's pretty much what you said. You didn't go back to watch the streaming when Haki was left untranslated, meaning you never gave it a chance. So since you never watched it, you pretty much are saying you didn't watch it because someone else who watched said they left Haki untranslated, and that was your make-it-or-break-it deal.
-
Why should I? It left Haki untranslated, I don't like that, and there are options where that isn't a problem. So, why not choose those options?
-
Again; they failed to bring me in as an audience, so I have no need to switch to them. They offer nothing else besides text that doesn't move, and "Gum-Gum", two things that aren't dealbreakers for me.
But since Haki is no longer an Issue (AGAIN, 415 is the last time you see the word so far in the story) Then what other Issues ARE there to "Fail to bring you in as a customer"?
Why should I? It left Haki untranslated, I don't like that, and there are options where that isn't a problem. So, why not choose those options?
Again, those options are only viable until episode 416. From that point on, you never see the word again. The thing you don't like goes away at this point.
I hated how Sanji's attacks were put in English during the Sanji Vs. Kurobi Fight, but I didn't go "Well, FUNi failed to get me as an audience, I'm done with this shit".
-
Because there's no reason to switch. Haki steered me away, there's no reason to steer back, and I like consistency. Again, why should I change? If they wanted folks like me to choose the stream over the fansubs, they should've made the translation better than the fansubs. They didn't, so I have no need to switch. Even without Haki, who knows what goofy shit they might do? Why risk that when I have something I've been using that's been reliable to me?
-

Fansubs BLEED inconsistancy.
I once saw a Fansub translate "Hebihime" as Snake Princess, but then later in the SAME EPISODE it put "Hebihime" untranslated.
Yibis used to translate EVERYTHING, including the attacks. Then they got a Karaoke Encoder, so they abruptly changed to Flashy effects left untranslated, then they lost their Karaoke Guy, so they went back to the translated ones, then they got a new Karaoke guy, so the Effects and untranslated attacks came back.
Why do you think I left the group?
