What ports should I forward to get Bittorrent to go faster than… Slow?
Also, are the ports TCP or ASS or something else entirely?
Thanks for the help... If anyone knows the answer.

Can anyone help me?
what? :(
My Bittorrent goes incredibly slow.
I was told that it is because I need to use port forwarding on some ports in my firewall.
The thing is, I don't know which ports to forward, and if they're TCP or UDP.
So, if anyone knows which ports to forward and their protocol, then I'd really like to know.
I have no clue. most people forward using something between 6000-7000
I forget the number checks
6667… mmm... around 6660-6670? I have no clue. I know its on the 66 range... I'm not certain though
edit - I'm not much help I know ;_; sorry
You know Google knows better than us?

Please don't double post next time.
First, check what ports your BT client is using to listen for connectioins. Tell us the client and I'll try to help you find out where to check.
Secondly, if your BT client and router supports uPnP, you havw nothing to worry about.
I seem to be having a similar problem as this person, but I have no idea what ports or anything are. Is Bittorrent just slow naturally? Is there any way to fix that? Because I'm using the original Bittorrent (not BitComet or anything) and it's taking like 5 days of non-stop computer on-ness for a 10-pack of episodes to download.
EDIT: Actually, would IRC be better than BT? Because I happened upon something called GAIM that lets me use IRC.
Depends.. Some things to consider: first of all, what is the normal speed of your internet? Also, what are you downloading? Is it some old series with 1 peer or something? And maybe your ratio is just very low, which makes BT artificially cap your download speed (more sharing=better download speed)
I'm sorry, but I'm not very computer savvy at all. I don't know what most of that means. My Internet speed is pretty good - I've got DSL. I'm downloading 10 episodes of KF fansubs in one pack. And, sorry, but I have no idea what 'ratio' means, could you please explain? I'm very sorry for being so difficult..
Try for normal bt it is something like 6881 i think. but use bitlord or azureus and change to the port 7005 and forward that port as well.
Ratio is the division of your uploads compared to your downloads. So if you have downloaded 400 MB and uploaded 200 MB your ratio is 50%. The original design of BT was based on the principle that you get faster downloads if you upload more (=have a higher ratio).. but I'm not sure how well that plays out in practice as I haven't used BT more than 2-3 times really.
How would I go about changing my ratio?
Thank you for all your help so far, jackvance.
EDIT: I took a look at BitTorrent, and it says that my upload rate is 12 KB/s and my DL rate is 7 KB/s. However, I set the bar at the top up to DSL 768k up, which has a maximum upload rate of 86 KB/s, so something is probably wrong.
Share Ratio is the ratio of the amount of data you have uped : the amount of data you have downloaded
You can increase the amount by seeding or uploading more. Basically, it's better to upload till your ratio is 1 so as to ensure a torrent has a longer life.
this is what i found with my use if bittorrent…
firstly if you have your upload speed at unlimited this will greatly reduces your downloa speed as you use your upload rate to request files for bittorrent, i normally when i leech i have my upload speed pretty low so i dont get upload lag ( for requesting files), after i finish i put the upload speed back to near my max (i only have max 16kb upload :( )
that normally boosts my download speed...
e.g this is some stats that i had, Dl: 15 UL: 16 (<----thats my max)
when i turn the upload speed down a bit DL: 50 UL:4
and it tends to get faster and faster, all i know is if you cap your upload speed to near your max speed then your download rate will greatly reduce...
Thank you for your help guys, I followed your advice and my download speed is already going up.
glad to help out  it may seem tough at first but when you get used to it its quite simple… now it smy turn to figure out how to use irc properly...
