lol, I feel like Funi gave up. Idk it's just me though.
Funi hasn't given up on One Piece. You've just given up on Funi.

Twitter update: There is still no news on One Piece, but it's not about punishing the fans, which apparently someone asked about, but the guy running their twitter is "hopeful".
sighs Now I'm getting impatient.
I really want to watch 403 and 404. I've been restraining myself to not watch the fansubs and wait for FUNimation's version. =/
I wish they'd at least give us some information.
I wouldn't wait. If they do decide to start back with the stream, they aren't going to start with 403.
I wouldn't wait. If they do decide to start back with the stream, they aren't going to start with 403.
But they'd probably at least put it back up, right?

You're assuming.
It's a logical guess.
There's nothing inherently special about episode 403. 403 was the episode they started with because that was the episode that was going to air at the time they were able to set this up.
If they do get permission to start the streaming again, they will start at whatever the current episode is.
If they do upload the older episodes, it will begin at 391? like it did the first time and go from there. If 403 goes up, it will go up after 402 and 401.

:DDD I'm happy now. I asked that question. And I included "Or are you going to give me the same BS answer that every1's gotten?" XDD
We should probably be focusing on good manners.
I'm still trying to get up the guts to call Toei, which firecrouch may be right on. I don't think Funimation needs any convincing, but Toei certainly does.
Just do it, chances are you'll get some middle-man who won't know anything and may transfer to someone else who may not want to tell you anything. But there's a chance you might get some juicy info or give some positive reinforcement. I might just make a call myself.
Well I do believe there a small chance that they'll put it back up considering they are beefing up security and are going to post the video a few minutes before it is suppose to be, but then again this could only apply to all the other anime shows they have.
@Dixxy:
No, you just want Funi to give up because you don't want your fansub to be trumped to by the official simulcast. You've been on the of the "lol fansubs rule" people this whole time and aren't you the guy in charge of ACDF or something fansubs?
meow
@Captain:
Funi hasn't given up on One Piece. You've just given up on Funi.
perhaps…
I think they would have made a decision by now. They should tell the people.
It's not Funi's decision to make, it's Toei's. Toei is a very large company. It probably takes three staff meetings to decide which brand of toilet paper to use. Working out this flustercluck between them and Funi means getting all the right people talking to each other in exactly the right order, and these people are on opposite sides of the globe and speak different languages.
And that's before you bring the lawyers into it…
meow

What the hell is "meow" supposed to mean?
In the real world in a circumstance such as this a decision that they can tell to the public WOULDN'T have been made by now. I'm not saying that fans of "One Piece" shouldn't be able to watch the newest episodes if they're caught up, but as long as this simulcast isn't officially cancelled I say stop making fansubs. It's just feeding into the problem

I believe he was insinuating a cat fight or something.
I think the simulcast needs to get back on if Toei wants the fansubs to go away, though. Otherwise, if they take the simulcast away, that might make some fans angry and download fansubs just out of spite - I don't know if it would be a large group and I probably wouldn't do it, but some might.
Simulcasting is currently the best solution the anime industry has to combat fansubbing. Getting rid of the simulcast is counter-productive.

I agree, and now that FUNimation has promised not to upload the episodes until after their air date in Japan, I would think that Toei would be the one in the wrong if they refused to bring it back up.
I would never watch fansubs to spite anybody. I only watch them when a legal alternative is not available.

Oh I'm not saying everyone ever would - I just think there's a fair chance some of the crankier fans might.
Still, I think it's possible we may need to start calling/writing to Toei to support Funi. I think a lot of fans (clearly not all) prefer the legal version than the illegal version.
The fact is the legal version came out sooner than the fansub. FUNimation just said they won't upload episodes until after they air in Japan, it can still be the same airdate.
So has anyone actually called or written in to Toei Animation?

Oops, sorry, I didn't mean "air date", I meant to say something like "until after it airs in Japan".

Yeah, I know you weren't meaning that… I was just saying I wouldn't do that.
And yeah I would contact them, but I'd probably just embarrass myself. =/ XD

We probably just need to be braver, that's all.
I don't think you guys are seeing the simulcast stream from the correct angle.
The simulcast isn't intended to get rid of fansubs, that's what C&D Orders are for. The simulcast is nothing more than Funi and Toei realizing that there is a market here and finally having the technology to do something with it.
Why do you think Viz started this with Naruto? They saw DB getting 500K to 1 mil downloads every week and said "I want a piece of that action!"
This isn't about killing fansubs. Fansubs are what made this possibile to begin with. This is about taking advantage of the market that those fansubs have created.
C&D Orders don't really do anything. I think when most of say "killing fansubs" we also mean taking advantage of a potential market, at least that's the way it is for me.
Anyway I don't see any of you guys are so nervous about making a phone call. What's the big deal?
I think Rin said she was going to call and I want to see what happened with her call before I make a move myself.
Yeah where has she been lately? Does she have some bad news she doesn't to tell us from the call?
I don't know - I PMed her on Quexi's board. She was on the "user active in the last 15 minutes" list so maybe I just missed her?
Or maybe she didn't call and she's been busy with other things?
I find it hard as hell to get the lazy bastard to get on MSN half the time. >=(
But she might be out with family, always jumping on the chance to watch a new movie that looks good. So if any new big movies came out, almost bet she's there. =P

I want my fancy fansub fonts.

More likely the second.
Also, being a messenger here and saying: she hasn't called yet. She will as soon as she can though.

ah, you're right. I totally phrased that incorrectly.

meow means meow. If we stop fansubs more people will complain. more than the ones in this thread. The majority don't care where they get their subs, they just want subs.
anyways, Time will tell…
Some of you living in North America and saying the simulcast is intended to kill fansubs are forgetting that there are people living elsewhere that can't LEGALLY watch the simulcast. Those people can either illegally watch fansubs or illegally watch the simulcast if they want to see up to date One Piece. Do you think Funi really wants all those people illegally watching their streams and eating up bandwidth, causing the people trying to watch it legally to bitch about lag and even possibly turn to fansubs because of it? Funi probably realizes that as much as it wants to get rid of fansubs, that isn't a realistic expectation as long as up to date (or even relatively up to date) One Piece isn't available in markets outside of North America and Japan and that the effort of going after fansubbers based overseas and possibly alienating fans that do import the DVDs even though they can't legally watch the simulcast isn't worth the benefit. I am just speculating - I have no idea really, so this is just food for thought.
fansubs filled the gap between the current and Funi's work. and fansubs are free work given by fans, why get so pissed if FUNi is nowhere right now.
Do you think Funi really wants all those people illegally watching their streams and eating up bandwidth, causing the people trying to watch it legally to bitch about lag and even possibly turn to fansubs because of it?
YES!
Funi doesn't care WHERE the hits come from on their site. They are NOT LEGALLY ALLOWED TO MARKET ONE PIECE OUTSIDE OF NORTH AMERICA. That's why they don't allow it. They are legally obligated to limit it to North America.
And really, to be honest, Funi probably doesn't give a !@#$ one way or the other about One Piece fans outside of North America. They certainly aren't making business decisions based around what the British One Piece Society thinks.
Some of FUNimation's streams I heard are available to the U.K., it depends what they can get the rights to. I know some of FUNimation's anime is released to the U.K. through another company that's affiliated with Navarre.
And of course FUNimation knows they can't kill fansubs, but they can certainly compete with them.
FUNi can rape fansubs, they have a huge lead with raw.
meh I should probably stop poking fun at this thread.
All they do is send C&D letters, I think now is the first time they're actually gonna try to sue someone.

Yes, you should.
You go into a hissy-fit when people moan about your subs, and yet here you are trolling a funi thread. Go away.

I think it's hard to track people down and I think they said that. But whoever leaked could get into some serious issues if he's caught.

aww you hurted my feelings
@The:
The truth hurts, sometimes.
sometimes :)
why the hell are you still around again?
I tried calling Toei using the number I provided earlier - the number is either bad or they've closed their offices for the day - it should be around 4:00 in LA right now, though, right?
I also did not get an answering machine, which makes me wonder if the number is, indeed, bad.
Also posted at Quexi's forum.
EDIT: Maybe not - a second yellow pages type service gave me the exact same number.
EDIT 2: THIS PAGE HAS A NUMBER THAT WORKS!
However, I have no idea who I should be talking to. If you call the number you'll see what I mean.

I think if you wait on the line without putting in an extension they just transfer you to someone in the office
Well take this as you will, but it looks like Toei Animation isn't completely ignoring the fans about this whole thing:
Not exactly news to me
I'm sure I've read that somewhere else on here
But still, it's good to know that Toei is actually trying to do some investigating
To me it just means that Toei Animation is at least on FUNimation's side.
Well take this as you will, but it looks like Toei Animation isn't completely ignoring the fans about this whole thing:
I think they were just updating their website with the more accurate news. Still, they used almost the exact same wording, and I kind of think this particular press release MIGHT have been crafted CAREFULLY.
That's like the same thing on funimation's website only with added company names.
I have another reason to brutally beat this jergoff who leaked this thing; I wanted to watch the epic "Kuma annihilates the Straw Hats" episode subbed professionally, dammit! Now I CAN'T!
I'mma go cry out of rage in the corner, now….
