I am going to work hard today. I am going to finish chopper's bag today. determined that gives me 3 weeks to do my nadia costume. i haven't started it yet. @_@

OMFG YES YES IROHA PLEASE GOD TELL ME HOW YOU DID THOSE ;___; you can just tell me what material you used actually cause I don't want to steal any of your secrets. I'll tell you how I did mine xD
for the first set, we got Balsa wood, covered it with fabric after it was cut out in the shape, then sewed on the tassel type stuff around it and sewed it to the coat. That was what we did for Buggy.
When I made my surprise jacket for my sisters Bellamy, I used actual blue hard foam from Lowes and cut out two circles and sanded them with sand paper to have smoother rounder edges… er no edges I suppose xD THEN covered them in material, used bias tape to round out the edges and make it appear to have a circle, then sewed on the tassels and sewed it onto the coat
I love how when I try to explain things it sounds like I never know what I'm doing and it always is totally probably unhelpful xDDD;;;;;;; Oh wells! I'm by NO MEANS no expert =3=;
But I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to know ;; I mean those looked beautiful... the WHOLE KIZARU coat looks BEAUTIFUL ;_; I wish I was going to AX u___u unfortunately it looks like it's just A-Kon in Dallas TX, Tokyo in Tulsa which is in Oklahoma the shithole in which I live and AnimeFest in Dallas.... I wanted to go to Otakon but it'll be put off for next year T_____T
I think I have the 'i'm afraid of California and it scares me' disease... seriously... I really REALLY am scared to go there Dx;;; it seems like an awesome place but it makes me nervous cause so many good cosplayers are there and I don't feel like I'd be one of them by ANY means xD
-
why you scared of california?:) you should come to canada. we're not scary.
-
Haha it's not that great of a secret, it's pretty close to the way you did it. It's a cardboard base, with tassel-trim and braid-trim glued around the edges, then fabric covered craft foam glued on top. Then velcro glued to the bottom and sewn to the coat, so you can remove them for washing. I know Kaizoku did his a little differently, but the general principle is the same.
I'll see if I can take some pics later. And California is not scary! We're all laid-back west coast people, and OF COURSE we welcome fellow OP cosplayers! There are more cosplayers here b/c of the good weather and fabric resources, plus lots of events year-round. FWIW, most of the pictures you see online are the good cosplayers, of course we have bad and halfassed cosplays, everyone does.
You should come visit!! -
omg… I should've... used... glue .... remembers nights full of cursing from pricking her fingers tips oh wait... I'm STILL DOING THAT ... today infact... looks to kids coat where EVERYTHING LEFT TO DO ON IT IS HAND SEWING Dx but it'll look so pretty ;3;
and yeah that sounds more complicated and effective than what I did... uh... the coats I make nobody can wash >__>;; especially... the fur.... ones... imagines fur all curling and looking nasty XDDD
and yeah... maybe one... day I'll come to a CA con ;3; I'm just scared Dx; I'd want to go with a group but then not... go with one >__< there's always SO MUCH DRAMA in groups and sometimes it's better with just my sis and me and a friend or two x__x; I dunno... some day Dx unless some of you West Coasters would want to come to Otakon XDDD no gurantee I even get to go to that Dx
and I wouldn't waste your TIME coming to the A-Kon area O__O I mean Animefest is really awesome but A-Kon is full of SO MUCH RUDE bastards Dx ruins the WHOLE con experience sometimes
-
so I should be scared of texas then XD
-
I personally liked Akon more than Afest. There was more to do, and all the Houston people come to that. But my favorite con is definately Oni Con. That's the funnest one by far.
Ordered my Conis wig a few mins ago. The dress is made and almost complete. Neko is going to put the design on it. The wings are done, we just got to do the snap. After the wig all I need to get is the sandals.
Maybe we can post some progress pics tomorrow if I can get Youshi or Neko to help.
-
Most OP cosplayers live in california. If you go to a california con, you'll see TONS of them.
Come to oregon. We're even nicer.
-
Too bad there's not many good Cons around Minnesota. I can't afford to travel to nice places with lots of OP cosplayers. T_T
-
A-kon = Too Crowded + Staff Jerks
A-fest = More laid back + Less people
-
It's awesome all the Houston peeps come up and that's why you like A-Kon more, but I don't really know them as well as you guys do so it's not the highlight for me u__u; However I hope we get to meet them ;3;
and I've never been to Oni Con but if I EVER did go… it better be the most OUT OF THIS WORLD CONVENTION ON PLANET EARTH for me to drive at LEAST 8 or more hours x__x; I can't fly I'm too scared and flights from Oklahoma from ANYWHERE is more expensive it's like money rape Dx
However... I didn't know anyone at Otakon and it was really amazing O__O
but I like A-Kon cause it was the VERY first out of state con I'd ever been to and it BLEW my mind ;3; I really enjoyed it the first year but the staff continues to get worse and worse xD but I go for friends so that makes it great in a way n__n
and stilll I'm WAY too afraid to go to CA ... ;___; it's so far... shudders and I don't know anyone there x__x; but it does sound like the most awesome place for One Piece cosplay I'd feel like the crappy cosplayer compaired to them xD
-
@ Coral: Ms Cricket's referring to the GeeksandDorks.com crew that always go to A-Kon (i.e.: Zor, Bushido, MJ, and myself). Besides, you'll see me there A-Kon weekend. <3
I'm just not sure if I'm needed for any cosplay groups of any sort, since its been ages since I've bothered to cosplay Luffy.
Also, the Houston convention to go to is Anime Matsuri. I really wish you would've went in 2008, since Nirgilis was performing that year.
-

I watched Dance Carnival to make a Jango MJ dance gif (which is now in the gif thread XD) and I totally forgot about this dude and he makes me happy. XD DANCING GRANDPA BRINGS JOY TO ALL.

omgomgomgomgomgomgomg I must spazz somewhere even if it's just to the wind.
Hancock applique is 98% on. All that's left is to stitch the connector flowers down. I'm hotfixing the snake eyes on after lunch. The shirt only needs the sleeves to connect…which those will be cut out and applied after the snake eyes.
SO, the list for ACen is as this:
Hancock - 87% (attach snake eyes, cut out and attach sleeves, line skirt, satin stitch down connector flowers)
Marigold - 70% (Must strengthen hair squirrels, attach applique and velcro to the cloth and bodysuit, attach tassels and do flower chains)
Sandersonia - 25% (wig is almost re-colored. My house smells like alcohol now. Omni, get online and/or text me pronto.)
Fujiko - 100%
King (aof 2) - 75%
Kana - 100%
Nami - 90% -
That's just for one con? Wow. I would never take that many. LOL
I just want to run around a wee bit in costume, then spend the rest of time hanging out with friends..or spending money in the dealers room.
That's awesome though. XD
-
why you scared of california?:) you should come to canada. we're not scary.
I will be in Canada in July. XD
And Bri, I am heading out to go pick up my sister from work, will send you a text or get online when I get back home.
-

Haha, Marigold and Sandersonia are for Omni and Mandy's Shadow. AoF 2 King is for Friday afternoon, the other versions of her are for when I bartend at night up in Green Room. Kana will be early on Friday, Nami will be for our panel Friday night and possibly on Saturday for a bit…I think that'll be my 'casual' costume since it's Sabaody....and nothing's cozier than a t-shirt. Hancock is definitely for masquerade.
Julie, I'm heading out to Devon's to start bits of Sandersonia and finish up Hancock (I forgot the hotfix gun at her house --), but I plan on hopping on meebo, so hit me up on aim.
Oh right... pictures:
!

Everyone's progress is looking spot on fantastic! I can't wait to upload some pics as soon as we get some solid progress done x_x;; we sure work slow…is slapped by sister ahhh xDD Okay okay, my sister is working as fast as she can x_x;; It's not my fault everything on Kidd's coat has to be hand sewed xDDD I actually volunteered to sew on the 18 buttons since she's doing everything else.
-
Weeee… just a little make up test for Calgara and Robin <3
! DOESN'T CALGARA LOOK AMAZING!!?! I love that face XDDD
! I love Calgara's profile here, and I'm trying to figure out what angles work better for Robin
-
Calgara's WTF Face…heh.
AUGH I wish my chin and jawline had more definition! I make retarded faces.
-
i think you look fine. I'm wondering about robin's eye shaddow? does that square focus thign with her fingers I dunno. what do other people think? I think maybe it should look a little more natural? hmm.
I finished my bag, minus the X, but I didn't have time to take pics today. so that's 3 weeks to move my ass on nadia.
-
EEEEE SO HAPPY TO SEE CALGARA ROBIN PICS even if the pairing is totally crack xD you guys look GREAT O___O I wanna upload progress pics but I really doubt anyone would give a crap anyways and oh YES
slaps sis
I hand sew as fast as I can despite the constant distracttions and that the way I'm sewing it it's like I'm wearing a VERY FUCKING THICK LAP Blanket xD but I'll get it done I promise! and you can definately help with buttons!! n___n
and I can't wait to see your chopper bag Captain Usopp ;3;
-
Gotta agree with Captain Usopp here. Robin to me doesn't seem to wear a lot of make-up, so maybe just wear normal make-up instead of something really flashy for her eye-shadow? I'm no make-up expert, but you don't want to wear TOO much, it distracts from other things, and maybe a more neutral color for the lipstick too?
Other than that, I'm super happy to finally se some progress pics!
-
@PN:Agree, Robin has light make up if any. .
but its awesome progress
Flash makes calgaras hair very wirey maybe a picture on your balcony under daylight may look more flattering then the flash@Coral: no sis slapping . . . I think Im more a distraction to you then her XD
-
hmm actually for the eyeshadow besides doing a natural tone for it. Try using some light shades of purple.
I am thinking that because Robin has purple as her colour theme that if you do purple for an eye shadow it will look great. But be careful as to how you do the purple otherwise you might look like a whore. If you want tomorrow I can put up some pictures to show you what I mean.
-
Thanks guys! I'll look into that for the make up. It was just a test, I should've thought about using purple though since I do have some! ^_^
As for Calgara's hair, hopefully we will have better lighting at the convention. It is also not done as far as styling, there is still the back side to do and the top.
-
Good luck with the wig too! I'm scared to work on Kidd's wig myself xDDDDD And I forgot to mention the way you guys did Robin's nose was pretty slick <333 I might have to try something similar to make the bridge of my nose look broken for Kidd.. c'mon, that's TOTALLY what his nose looks like, like someone socked him in the face. xDDDD
..bride of my nose.. PFFFTTTTT.. I kill myself.. edited to fix my hilarious mistake x_x
-
Good-good, can't wait to see full pictures :3
I love how you did the shade on the nose! =) Just what I was talking about on your LJ and see, it turned out really great, Neko!
I don't think I like thouse reddish eyeshades on Robin though, but maybe that's just me~
But I think it would be cooler without them ;) -
I'd go with natural browns for the lids, and then a thin line of black eye liner on the top lash line for some definition. If you are going to wear purple, make sure to blend it with a lighter, more natural shade to prevent it from looking too muddy.
-
I need to make some progress so I can post some pictures… I tried a new jacket pattern last night and it's designed like crap, so now I'm trying a different pattern but DAMN not enough time until Fanime
Anyway, here's some pictures of my epaulet technique.
[HIDE]
Hopefully that shows where I glued it together and how the layers sandwich the braid and tassels so you only see the nice side
Incidentally you don't need that strap on the coat, I just decorated a thrift store one. You can put the velcro directly on the shoulder.
[/HIDE] -
HOLY CRAP I SPARKLE LIKE THE 4TH OF JULY.
!
Hancock - 100%
-
!
I'm gonna put the X on later -
@iroha: OMG win! that is exactly how I would do that if were making epilets those look just perfect
@cactusmomma: Oh you must have lots of patents to get all that sewn in, in such a neat fashion, Nice
@capusopp: Yayy It looks le awesome!
-
Everyone's progress makes me SOOOO antsy!!! XDDD I wanna start doing stuff too O_O Gotta get the goggles made for Kidd, this weekend for SURE!!!
-
8 days… NO. 7 DAYS for me till ACen. CAN I PANIC NOW.
-

Thank you, I will definitely try that! I should get more natural colors anyway (I have turquoise, greens, red…. hehe I like to play with colors lol)
-
Dude, everyone's progress is looking wicked good. Youshi, I have the same issue with my face. Try using browns and natural tones to create more definition to the underline of your jaw, cheekbones, nose, and neck. Just play around and see what gives you more masculine angles when photographed.
-
wow! that is such a smart idea! maybe I'll have to learn how to use that make up stuff. that would sure help for my hiruma costume. I've got a bubbly face too.
-
If you cosplay hiruma, you have to have makeup. The dude wears GUYLINER.
-
I love you guys; you're all doing so great.
looks at Paulie cosplay
cries
-

lol well I'm not that lame. I can figure out eye liner. :)
-
…dudes.. is there anyone girly in this thread??? O____O seriously cause I think I am gonna need some girl advice XDDDDDDD Below are some test shots of my Kidd lipstick.. oh god I hope someone has some pointers.. x_x;
!
…that is my first attempt at ACTUAL lipstick that's not eye-liner smeared on my lips.. haha.. I look pitiful.. xDDDDDD This is the first shade of my Kidd lipstick.. o__o
!
This is the second color.. upon further evaluation.. both probably look more suited to Iceburg than to Kidd =_=;; God I don't wanna buy anymore lipstick xDD But anyways! I am having the hardest time applying it, and also ..what can I apply over it to keep it from smearing?I'm serious guys.. I may be a girl.. but I know NOTHING about girly things ;___;
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated DX!!!!!!!
-
MoonNeko, that first color looks much more Kidd-like than the second. Plus the crazy smile adds to it. I'm a big fan of cheap drugstore makeup (like the Wet n Wild and NYC color $2 stuff) for cosplay. I'm no makeup expert, but you can apply the lipstick with a small brush for better control. And actually, for better edge control you could outline your lips in lipliner then fill it in with the lipstick. I don't really know about sealing it from smearing but you can always kiss a kleenex a couple times to blot away the excess.
Captain Ussop, I'm also going to cosplay Hiruma soon (need to finish lots of stuff first though). You should post pictures! I need to try to make my face more angular too, since it's pretty round. Cheap powdered bronzer or brown eyeshadow can give nice shadow lines if you use a big brush.
-
wait you put eyeliner on your lips???? why??? lol you are so cute.
hmm actually I think the second one is a better colour for kid but the picture I am looking at right now isn't a good shot of his lips.
I am super girly…can't go anywhere without makeup hardly. But I rarely wear lipstick. XD But yes try blotting it with a kleenex. Really unless you are buying a colour last lipstick, you are going to lose colour throughout the day. If you can keep your lipstick with you though, you should be fine as you can just do touch ups.
-
Lipliner tends give an over made-up appearance, and Kidd's look doesn't seem to apply to that, so I would skip out on lipliner. I'd also go for the first color. A great way to make lipstick to last is to bite your lips on some tissue after applicating to get rid of excess, it also makes it stay.
I have the belief that everyone should wear some makeup while cosplaying, the whole package needs to look good, not just the costume.
-
I very very VERY rarely wear lipstick, but I've heard if you use loose powder like face powder over lipstick it makes it last longer. If you can find an exact or really near exact lipliner color, use that to prevent feathering (it usually looks more natural if you put it on after the lipstick, not before). I'm just imagining now Kidd stopping a battle to reapply lipstick.. Hahah >_<
I like the first one better~ I can't wait to see the finished product, I'm so excited to see everyone's costumes~
Cactusmomma that Hanmock skirt looks fucking terrific, that must have taken forever >_< What did you use for the embellishments? Did you cut stuff out and sew it on? Ee~ I want more pictures. T-T
