Either way, dadan is not any sort of name, he was actually making his own sound effects as he spoke, dadan!

@Fire Fist:
Defense Attorneys for Dumbasses and Aspiring Noobs?
No, what he probably meant was DA-dan, dan being the japanese word for group/organization.

RE: Dragon's ability
To you who are using the lightning bolt on Buggy argument, i think that you arent considering the fact that it might be destiny, or something along those lines.
I agree, cause everyone knows someone holding up a metal sword in a thunderstorm when standing on a very tall isolated structure will not lead to lightning bolts striking by chance alone.
-
RE: What if there's Logia weapon?
Some good points but a lot of baseless comments IMHO.
From what we've seen, I agree there might only be zoan weapons because it seemed to grant the object some intellegence. Of course that could just mean that zoan are the most effective weapons, I can't see how a sword couldn't become a gomu sword or a supa sword, but I can't see how that'd be very useful and would probably be the waste of a fruit worth billions.

RE: Spoiled Brats and Spandam
haha, good question. Furthermore, do you consider foxy among these villains? perhaps the subject of the next cover story will deal with foxy's fate after all.
I doubt Foxy will get a cover story because he was in the same condition before and after meeting Luffy, only thing he lost was his spotless win record and his flag.

I'm pretty sure that Human/Leopard is his Buffed Leopard using a variation of Kamie (if what you're talking about is what I think you're talking about).

RE: Enel's Attack: RAIGOU
it probably couldn't destroy an island but it is a lot easier to position and faster to get off too.
@Final:
RAIGOU is all of enel's power, all the Maxim is doing is creating the thunder clouds. He just uses the clouds to form RAIGOU!! "Gomu Gomu no 300 pounds seige cannon" you say? Can that destroy an Island? I dont think so…..:getlost:
Er, good job reading…

Robin SBS attack location
I was rereading an SBS and found this, and in light of chapter 437 I found it hilarious:
D: To Oda-sensei. Robin's "Cinco Fleur." Why does "Gorin" (Five Flowers) turn into "Cinco"? Couldn't you just say "Gorin-zaki" like the kanji do? What language is Robin's attack in? I wish you would just make all her attacks in the pattern of "_nko Fleur."
P.N. Heita
O: I see… So, because "Cinco" is so easy to mistake for "Chinko" (penis) you want me to just have her attack the "Chinko" instead. Now listen here, son. This is the beautiful, regal Nico Robin we're talking about here.Maybe you will also find it as ironic as I did.
-
RE: Enel's Attack: RAIGOU
For destuctive power I have to say Raigou would be extreamly strong (though a bit less if used on the Blue seas IMHO, where falling thousands of feet is not a direct conciquence), but as people said it takes quite a while to create, and it utalizes Maxim.
I think if Raigou is part of Enel's power then Buggy bombs are part of Buggy's and Coup de Vent is part of Franky's.
Anyway, I think that the Gomu gomu no 300 pound siege cannon was more powerful then Raigou, moving water moving toward a speeding train at that speed acts almost solid and would be even harder to cut because it is shifting. And yet Luffy and Zoro blew a hole right through it… it probably couldn't destroy an island but it is a lot easier to position and faster to get off too.
And a bit OT:
Now for Enel as a fighter, whom I must say could've been WAY stronger than he was in Skypeia. The main problem with this was that he was surrounded by weaklings. He could take someone out by simply snapping his fingers, making him think he really is a god. This caused him to become lazy, not training his abilities as much as he could. If he had trained himself more, he might've stood more of a chance against Luffy.
Enel relied too much on his ability to harbor lightning, as shown by his fight with Luffy. Notice he mostly tried shocking attacks, which did nothing to rubber and was almost out of ammo. It was then that he showed his ability to smelt metal.
I whole heartedly agree with that part. Enel has never met anyone who couldn't be destroyed by a giant lightning bolt before (even Zoro was beaten by them, much to Luffy's surprise). If Luffy wasn't immune Enel would have destroyed Luffy. Even then if Luffy wasn't partially immune to physical blows he might have had his neck crushed by Enel's rod when he was crushed into Maxim by it. That was probably all Enel ever used to fight before and it was more then enough til that point.

RE: Chapter 439 "Third One and Seventh One" Discussion
To be honest I'm kinda surprised this is causing so much confusion when, to me, it's always seemed pretty straight forward. Luffy, Merry, and Vivi don't count in the numbering system, IMO.
There was alot of speculation that Usopp and Robin would rejoin with a number. I think the confusion is people believe that the 7th is Robin and not Franky. I thought - and would like to believe - that it is true, not so much for the possibility of a Vivi reunion but that I think Robin had enough hardships for a lifetime and that this is a final reunion. I would be happy with Franky getting #8, but I'm a bit doubtful that it will happen.

RE: SPOILER! The King of Beasts
My japanese is not the best so I might be wrong in my analysis. Anyway, it is written in japanese and quoted " ", but presented in the middle of a sentence without fanfare, so I honestly do not think it is the name of the ship but a metaphor.
Another non-analytical arguement against it being the name of the ship is that is the only reference to that line, where with Merry they reveled on the name. I'd be disapointed if that's all the name of a dream ship is worth.

RE: Is Franky W7 arc's best possible addition?
Franky knows two different guitar chords, thus he should make an ample addition as not just a shipwright.
-
RE: Franky's dad
Despite the apology I slowly find myself losing respect for purple names.
Telling people not to speculate and share improbable ideas on the internet is just like telling oda to stop surprising us.
-
RE: Going Merry Theory(Spoiler)
Not sure if anyone else noticed, but Franky always put the number of what Battle Franky it was on his BF series, and on this ship he put a giant 1. Pretty sure that makes it not a Battle Franky but something better, and possibly not the last ship he makes.
I also always thought the styled ships were kindof dorky looking, and the only really cool ships we've seen were the Marine ships, Merry, and Don's Flagship. Now Luffy will fit right in with the other dorky ship sailing pirates.

RE: Who would've guess there'd be a thread for Nami too?
Not to mention Miss Doublefinger skewering a foot and an ankle and then she runs around with no problems (Zoro didn't carry her that long).
If we didn't see her swim I would have guessed she ate a Logia fruit and wasn't telling anyone.
-
RE: Who would've guess there'd be a thread for Nami too?
Only thing I dislike about Nami is how she heals instantly.
She got shigan'd a few times, and can still sit around in a swim suit a few days later with no scars. Well blimey.

RE: Luffy saying: "I understand Robin's enemy very well"
What I got when he said that was not that he knew who or what the WG is, but now he knows what Robin is afraid of. That her enemy is not Spandam, or CP9, or even the WG as a whole, but more the fear of the WG's power. I thought the burning of the flag was a global "come on" to WG and showing Robin that he is not afraid of anything they can throw at him, and Robin shouldn't be either, thus saying he will never get tired of Robin or betray her.
The difference is slight, but is a clear difference. Mugiwara_no_Ice's post had the same idea.
You need to put the whole thing in its context
he was answering spandam
he just says that he understands the force and nature of the WG and that
he s not afraid of it–> he proves it by burning the flag! It's not the WG itself, but more the force it represents that is frightening Robin, 'force of nature' as he put it.

RE: How much meat?!
If you think about it, some of the oponents have handicaps too. Namely Krieg who was starving to death several minutes before his fight with Luffy.
I also think the point that Kaku made about Bleuno losing his edge after bartending for 5 years might be true too. None of the Galley-la knew Kalifa and Bleuno were that strong (or even Kaku and Lucci) so it's not like they had many chances if any to fight at full power for 5 years. While their Douriki did increase (meaning they did still increase in power) I think Luffy's life and death stuggle after struggle gave him an edge helping him fight toe to toe with Lucci even without using Gear 2. Gives you a bit more respect for Lucci if you think about it that way.
Not that Luffy wouldn't have done better fully rested, but I don't think the circumstances weren't 1 sided on the favor of the CP9 (atleast the 4 from W7).

RE: Has Sanji Improved?
As for Kaku blocking Iitoryu's Lion Song, that was extremely cheap. The move was technically supposed to be a "Cut all", but it turns out it can only cut one thing: Steel. Which begs the question: How the hell did Kaku know that Iitoryu's Lion Song would only cut steel, so that he didn't use Tekkai to block it? That, my friends, is the million dollar question.
You know, I thought the whole beauty of the move and why we have the multiple flash backs was because the move was not a "cut-all" but a move that cuts only what you need it to cut. If he needed to cut steel, he could cut steel.
You will notice that Zoro screwed himself with his attempt at Shishi Sonson because he got a bit cocky. He said to Kaku "The first thing I'll have to do… Is break through your Tekkai thing..." Following which Kaku has an exclamation point bubble, then blocks with Rankyaku, asking "If that was "steel," could you have cut it?".
Seems to me that Kaku can't cut steel, but was experienced enough to not doubt Zoro could. Kaku is pretty cautious in his fight with Zoro.

RE: Has Sanji Improved?
Sanji even respected Kurei, something he didn't do with Jabs or Kurobi. He respected Gin somewhat. Course, Gin beat the crap out of him, almost as bad as Kurei.
I'll concede, his willpower has improved, but not his ability. After Gin hit him a few times, he was unable to do many of his moves because the shock from the blows were hurting him. But really, he's always been incredibly strong.
I know you ammended that later, but just wanted to point out that Gin was strong enough to beat Sanji, taking into consideration that he had the everliving snot knocked out of him by Pearl.
Jyabura lost to Sanji even though he again had the snot beat out of him by Kalifa.
-
RE: Has Sanji Improved?
What? You you suggesting that Kuroobi is strong then Jyabura? Are you insane? The fact that Jyabura could even take Sanji's kicks–even with tekkai--shows that he's superior to Kuroobi. In fact, that guy was easily Sanji's weakest opponent, and he could probably only strike even with Wanze. After all, Wanze did take a hell of a lot more kicks then Kuroobi did.
I honestly hate it when people put down characters just because they got beat up rather soundly earlier in the series. I think Arlong and Don Creek are extreamly powerful and can easily compare to CP9. If your only arguement is being able to take hits, yes tekkai gives them the edge there, but saying Kuroobi is weak just because Sanji took him out in a small number of hits is just plain stupid.
You must also be one of those people who say Satari and Bellamy are weak because they got OHKOed. If Kuroobi could take one of Sanji's more powerful hits to the face and stand up to talk about it then he'd have surpassed tekkai because Jabura couldn't.

RE: T-Shirt Design Ideas
One thing about your images is, the pixallation on the border (like EvilGamerX said) will show on the final product because it is part of your image. You should try to make a higher quality image to put on the shirts.
I decided to do it just to see how the shirt looked. If someone likes it they can feel free to buy it (not like I get any money from it). Everyone is putting ideas out, and some of them were pretty cool ideas that you just have to see.
Just to see how it looked (this was my idea) I decided to make a shirt for all the marine captains.

Colored in black and official marine red. Maybe I should put something on the front too, maybe a breast pocket seagull.
Edited: Looked back and it seemed regasatanum had a similar idea, just wanted to props him.

RE: T-Shirt Design Ideas
I already saw it, but I didn't like the quality of the image or the shirt, and it looks horrible if it's on a white shirt. I think mine looks pretty good on grey as well

RE: Zoro's Sensei?
@Private:
I understood the lesson as "A swordsmen cuts what he wants to cut" and you don't need a sword. In the end, he cut Mr. 1 without using a sword. He just wanted to cut him, so he did.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j64/Glitzfighter/vlcsnap-846244.png
The same thing with "Rashoumon" (Spelling…?) when he cut that Marine train without using a sword. Episode 260.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j64/Glitzfighter/vlcsnap-3872089.png
As the person said after you, they don't actually show the cut, but he is doing a technique called Iai, where you draw the sword and strike the person in the same motion. In Iai katas, they begin and end with the sword sheathed.
Iai is also plays a large part in Kenshin, if you've ever seen that.

RE: Official Ace and Luffy relationship/translation thread *semantics*
Luffy called Ace his brother, that's all he is.
I agree, biological or not Luffy is Ace's brother. I don't see any reason to infer whether they are biologically related or not even with the different last name.

RE: RH & WB Set a New Bar for Zoro
First, I'm pretty sure the 'New World' is part of the Grand Line, in fact it is the second half of it.
Second, while Zoro's dream is to be the strongest swordmen, which would mean being stronger than Hawk Eyes, I don't think that means being stronger than Shanks or White Beard, or having to past them whatever that means. Even if they are of comparable strength to Hawk Eyes, that just means Zoro will have to have comparable strength to Shanks, past'ing him or not.

RE: BlackBeard True Ambitions
I think that the Shichibukai work individually (which I think there is a lot of evidence to support that from what we've seen so far), and they don't nescessarily need to get rid of their crews (if they do, it was not said in any canon material I can remember).
All I can think of about the latter is that Belamy is using Doflamingo's mark, and the fact Crocodile and Mihawk both work alone (not including Baroque Works). I doubt the marines would care if Crocodile had anyone under his command fighting pirates, but they would care if Doflamingo was telling Belamy to pillage or plunder and not him doing it on his own terms. If they had to lose their crews, then Black Beard is an idiot spending all those years serving White Beard creating a crew powerful enough for him to throw away…
That said, I can honestly see Black Beard joining Shichibukai as a way of gaining power in a way that affords him respect rather then amnesty of attention like he had under White Beard now that he is powerful enough (or atleast thinks he is, we will probably find out next chapter now that Ace has found him).
As for backstabbing the WG, who knows, but I think he is going about it the wrong way, making enemies of WG's enemies.

RE: Chapter 433 "The Name of the Sea is" Discussion
From Stephen's script…
Lulu: OMGBBQ!!!
lol?
-
RE: Buggy the good son and the four aspects (432 spoilers!!)(merged)
You know, I really like this idea because when White beard rejected Shank's letter that Rocksta gave him, Rocksta said "He's the Red Hair!" like it has some kind of pull over just the pirate name. White beard responded with "So, I'm the white beard" almost like it is a title as well.
I also seriously doubt Black beard is an emporer because the WG and resident shichibukai never heard of them when Lafeita nominated him for shichibukai.
The name meaning something more could be just because they are very strong well known pirates, or that could be significant of their emporerly status. Could be wrong bout that, but saying "he's the strawhat!" I think would get the speaker laughed at.
That was in chapter 234 if you forgot.

RE: Error!?! A Revised TimeLine Check
I don't think so, because in a SBS oda said that every birthday Luffy has is his 17th birthday. If there was a 2 year jump he would have some non 17 birthdays.
-
RE: Zoro's sword related thread (SPOILER)
Whether anyone noticed this or not, Zoro has an extra katana sheathed on his hip, which I am assuming is the broken yubashiri.
You can see the hilt on page 3, and it looks a little like yubashiri but a little different (the sword guard is round). You can clearly see wadoichimonji in his mouth and the marine sword in his right hand in almost every frame, and you can see the sandai kitetsu in his left on the 2 frames in 11 and 18.
That one frame on page 3 is the only frame that you have a chance to see the hilts, so either it is a new sword, a mistake on yubashiri, or a mistake all together.
Just letting everyone know about it, hopefully it wasn't already brought up in some thread i missed.

RE: I've noticed people don't seem to use…
Personally, I think Gum Gum is an extreamly bad translation because he isn't made of Gum, he's made of Rubber. Some of the earliest fan scanlations I've seen translated gomu gomu no to rubber (which makes sense).
One thing I'm wondering is (since I have never watched the dub enough to know), does Luffy say "I ate the Gum Gum fruits, so now I'm a rubber person"? I think that alone would confuse a normal person because Gum turning into rubber. If Luffy was a Gum person when he'd do a Gum Gum pistol his hand might not come back (what happens when I stretch my gum).
Because the japanese fruit names stand for what abilities the person gets, I think that is enough reason to use them over the haphazard Viz/4 kids translations. The term Chop (which means to cut into or sever into pieces) and Bara Bara (a term meaning seperated or scattered, or in pieces), though they both could have the same meaning in certain places (like a bara bara satsujin; where a murdered person is cut into pieces probably through the process of chopping) the fact he wasn't chopped, but can just come apart, scatter/seperate, seemes to me that the japanese word is a better meaning. The only similarity is that once you chop something they are in pieces, rather then refering to the fact that they can seperate. If you need a translated word that has a close meaning, using Chop Chop seems to be a decent translation (I can't think of any single syllable words with a closer meaning) but it just doesn't mean the same to me.
You might think I'm complaining about termonology and I am, but I will probably never use a Viz term because I prefer to use close to accurate termonology when I can (which is why I prefer Nakama over mate, but sometimes seeing people use nakama in an english sentence really is annoying).
As for the rest, I don't care if they are Navy or Marines, or any of that stuff. I do prefer Belly over Berry for the pure reason that when they are asked for 1000 berries I think the saleperson mistook them for a walking grocery store.

RE: Chapter 422 "Rob Lucci" Discussion
People are saying ever recruits knows of CP9, but that's not true. The first VA had to explain it for his crew, and the marines on the ship that Lucci landed on deffinitly didn't recognize him so maybe their captain just told them too.
And besides, the crew of a VA during a buster call is hardly a normal recruit.
And the rest, rumors are rumors, if we find out Area 51 really does exist will people be saying "Everyone and their brother knew that"? No, because they are rumors, they only heard 5th hand stories about it.

Notice how Gigant Axe isn't said Gigant Ono? Minor observation.

RE: Bounty qualifications [possible manga spoilers]
I was actually asking why his bounty was 81 million instead of 80 million or 85 million?
Maybe it was 80 million at some point. 1 million is a lot of money, Higuma was proud of his 8 million bounty. Crocodile's bounty could have been 80 million (or even 7X million) at some point and he ticked off the WG again… not enough to elicit a 10 million increase in bounty and as they probably don't care having perfectly divisible bounties but wanted to increase his bounty to show their displeasure and letting bounty hunters know that he's still worth it.
We will probably not see a bounty with a lot of numbers like 81,345,234 because at a certain point that 81 million makes the 234 look like nothing and it wouldn't be worth writing. 1 million is still significant compared to 80 million, but one hundred thousand compared to 80 million isn't that much.

RE: Chapter 421 "Gear 3rd" Discussion
Can you imagine a Gomu Gomu no Giant Baku Baku? Next time he fights Crocodile he can swallow him whole instead of just making him mad.
-
RE: Nico Robin
I think Oda said that she can only sprout limbs in places within her sight range. Although this has been contradicted countless times, I think what he meant to say was "until the horizon".
Unless there is an SBS I missed, she said that she could catch the south bird only if she could see it. I think it would make sense that she can grow arms in specific location (like on the door in alabaster) because she knows where it is, rather then the south bird where she had no clue where it was until she saw it.
-
RE: Nico Robin
I always thought Nico Robin's strength was in leverage, while her physical strength is not that impressive, she can apply that strength almost anywhere she wants. Clutch was her getting large amount of leverage on them and basically folding them in half.
Fighting Pell (probably not the strongest person in one piece, but supposed to be one of the strongest warriors in Alabaster) was easily beaten because he was hasty in attacking and she grabbed his feet arms and head. As Pell said later, he would not have been beaten so easy since her knew her powers, but she got leverage on him and then there was nothing he could do.
Yama was again an example of an extreamly physically powerful and massive person. When he grabs Robin at the end, she twists his arms back by grabbing his fingers and pulling them backwords (very painful).
In my opinion, using submission techniques with her devils fruit power would be a whole lot stronger then trying to gain physical strength and attacking with multiple arms. From what we've seen of whitebeard or any giant, Robins power would be not very effective and they could probably overpower 100 arms if she tried to attack them head on. But she uses leverage and if she could attack anywhere on their bodies at any time she wants to then she doesn't have to overpower them.

RE: The gears
Luffy talks about how he saw Blueno kicked the ground 10 times and then "got the hang of it" but when did he see Blueno do this and when did he have time to practice? I just wonder when he really learned it and when he had time to practice O_o;
I'm assuming the "it" you are talking about is Soru and not Gear 2nd because kicking the ground 10 times does not really make sense if we're not. While I could be wrong, that translation could be slightly misleading, here is stephens:
Luffy: When it looks like you guys are disappearing,
I noticed you were kicking the ground over ten times in an instant.
And now I've got the trick down. It's nice to know movement abilities like that.It sounds like to me, especially from stephens translation that he noticed how they used soru more or less the first time he saw it, and he just had not tried using soru until his fight with Bleuno.
My reasoning is that he did not have any time to practice, and atleast in stephen's translation he says "and now I've got the trick down" like he just got it working. Luffy seems to try new things on the spot, I doubt he practiced Tako-hanabi or Net much before using them.
As for the gear 2 (or 3), I think did practiced - or used it - at least once before using it while fighting Bleuno because he seemed pretty confident in the technique.
Here is the end of the Bleuno fight.
Luffy: …man, you ARE tough...
Guess I'll have to show you something even BETTER.
Check this out...
"Gear"...He seemed to know the power of gear 3rd, as after beating Bleuno up with Gear 2nd he said he had something better. That doesn't really prove he didn't just think it was a good concept, but he was not surprised when he had shrunk from using it. He said "good, here I go" with no surprise at all from being small. He also had time to practice as they stayed beached 4 days at the Long Ring island. While that was time for Luffy and Robin to recover from being frozen, I doubt that would stop Luffy from trying out a new move.
But this is just my opinion so don't get mad if you disagree.

RE: What's with the sudden lack of interest on CP9 arc?
I agree with many people (too many to list them all) but why I think the main reason I am starting to lack interest is not from anxiety or awaiting the next part of the arc, but that the fights don't have the meaning most of the fights in the old arc meant.
These fights remind me of Luffy vs Wiper or Zoro vs Buraham. While good fights with powerful people, the fights themselves are pretty meaningless. I know they hold 'keys' which is the only way to get the shackles off Robin, but that's what we are doing. We do not particularly want to beat up the CP9, we just want to save Robin. Luffy vs Crocodile had impact because defeating Crocodile ended his reign, ended the threat he posed, helped protect Vivi's country. Defeating Enel protected Skypia and announced the city of gold was in the sky. Defeating a CP9 member gets us what? A key which may or may not be useful in releasing Robin from her bonds, which is secondary in saving her from capture.
Not saying I don't enjoy the fights, but I just want to see them save Robin, and getting the keys doesn't seem to be enough to make me want to watch more people get beat up in the meantime.

RE: Why Oda???
I have to say iv'e been really entertained by the ennies lobby chapters the ones i didn't like are the jyabura/sanji ones because it just seemed jyabura totally forgot that he's an assassin and turned into a puppy I mean he's a six for user and only used about 2 of the six in the fight, for meit just didn't match up with the formidable view I had of him alongside kaku and lucci. I loved the nami chapters but hated the stalling around kalifa playing around especially with the ever so important taking a bath.
Assuming we are reading the same manga, Jyabura used 5 forms, all of them but Kamie. We have not seen Kaku, Luchi, Kumodori, or Kalifa use Kamie yet, so saying he didn't have a "formidable view" when the 2 you compared him to haven't used that particular technique yet either isn't a good arguement.

RE: Chapter 415 "Heat Increase" Discussion
@Cap'n:
Though I'm a bit miffed about Sanji pulling the "devil" thing out of nowhere (THAT jutsu), I still thought it was cool.
I originally thought the same, but I've been thinking what if he knew that technique ever since he trained with Sef? We know that Sef used to be able to contend with pirates on the grand line and was named Red Leg Sef because his legs were dyed with the blood of his enemies… or so we heard from Don Krieg which are rumors at best. What if he was named Red Leg Sef not for the blood of his enemies, but that technique?
Something Sanji fans have been complaining about was the lack of overwhelmingly strong confrontations for Sanji, the only fight he lost so far was against Arlong where he was already half drowned and smashed against a couple walls and possibly unable to perform this technique... What I'm trying to say is maybe Sanji knew this technique the whole time through One Piece and had no reason to reveal it, or a reason not to.
