I hate all "Zoro is Luffy's equal!" "Sanji isn't as strong as Zoro or Luffy!" "Sanji/Zoro/Luffy would kick [the other two]'s collective butts!" style comments. I just say all three kick so much butt that they can't be measured or compared.
Win.

We're just lucky Luffy is the one that fell to that island, if it was any other man (one not made of rubber) they would be a eunuch right now, see how hard that amazon is pulling between Luffy's legs?
What happens when Kizaru sneezes while explaining his fruit? He'd say "I ate the pika pikachu!"
When i said "all manga" i meant all 510 chapters of One Piece.
And Illusions can't cut people. Even Naruto obeys that law.
Except since chapter 1 or so….
Kagebunshin anyone?
Thirty-Nine characters of cool! thanks!
Yay! Danke! All that!
Continuing the line of thought on how seastone affects a paramecia, when Califa was taking a bath and was half-submerged Nami noted that she couldn't use her powers in that state and Califa agreed.
I think the reason Luffy could still stretch is that his Devil's Fruit Power does not 'let him become rubber' but 'turns his body into rubber'. So Luffy can stretch against his will, because his body is rubber regardless of what Luffy does.
That said, if we assume there are (at least) two types of powers, ones you activate and ones that are always active, then the seastone would negate only powers that you activate, and having the seastone handcuffs on Luffy would not affect his body's ability to stretch.
So applying that theory, if Kuma's paw reflects things regardless of a conscious effort, then I think even if Zoro's sword was seastone it would have been fine. But if Kuma needs to actively repel objects (which it seems to me that it does, but nowhere does it say that) then Zoro would not have gotten shot backwards.
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/484/13/
In this panel it looks like Shuusui touches Kuma's hand, if it were made out of seastone it would have nullified his Paw powers and sliced through his hand, since that doesnt happen we can reasonably assume that the sword is not made of seastone.
Excellent find, until you posted that I was thinking that it was quite possible that his sword was seastone.
I now think that either Zoro's sword can't be seastone, or they made an error in that fight… which I doubt...
Everyone already knew most of these…
Why the hell does there always have to be someone to criticize anything posted that they think everyone always knows?
That said, didn't realize the furigana pronounced the X as diez, thanks for the post.
Honestly, as the Apostle said, there is no way Luffy will even think about Mermaid island now that he knows Ace's life is in danger.
I assume others as well, but Luffy is the important one as the crew seems to follow his choice of destination.
Only way we won't is if we have an important reason to stop somewhere else. I can't think of a good reason, but if anyone can it's Oda.
Nami wanted to rush to Alabaster to ease Vivi's worry over her own pain, Zoro and Sanji willing to sacrifice their lives for Luffy's, Robin committing herself to a life in prison to avoid a buster call being called on the crew, it seems that self sacrifice is a continuing theme, as well as the theme of family/friends.
That said, no way is Luffy going to leave his brother who he knows is dying to his own devices so he can go visit an island he wanted to see. If anything, the more talked up mermaid island becomes, the more I hope we won't visit there before we rescue Ace.
I know a lot of AP folk would like to see that part of his personality lobotomized ASAP, but what's left then? A generic badass? No thanks. I'll take the quirky split-personality any day instead.
That was the best thing I read on this forum in a long time.
I'm a huge Sanji fan, and a bit tired of all this 'Zoro is 100x cooler then Sanji' from certain people in the forum population. Just like Paladins vs Warriors in WoW, I prefer to take the 'I know Sanji is awesome' approach instead of trying to prove something to shortsighted people.
Ditto, we can't have a new crew member without some flashbacking. If we didn't we'd just be picking at bones guessing his background. Except that he is just bones! Yohohoho!
I have to say, I agree with almost everything Dinty said, but Anointed made me slap my face.
I think despite his body being made of rubber, getting his body pounded to pieces still hurts and affects him. In chapter 1 the pirates commented on how punches didn't affect him… probably less to the degree that it didn't hurt him but that his body didn't have broken bones.
To me it seems pretty consistent that every enemy Luffy comes across has a period of 'how do we hurt him?' just like we have that same process with those enemies. Luchi had the advantage of witnessing his immunity in the Galley-La vs Luffy/Franky breakup. Don Krieg first shot Luffy and found him immune to bullets, and Luffy's abilities stumped Enel.
So applying that to the previous argument: Rokuougan did not seem like an attack that relied on impacts, which would have been cushioned by Luffy's body like punches and bullets would be. He felt all the pain and shock that attack would normally cause any normal body... but his attack would not rend bones and muscles as it would a non-rubber body. On the other hand, being crushed by Enel's staff, or Moria's cage would be purely crushing, causing pain because the body would not give... because normally your body doesn't squish... and since Luffy's does it does not hurt him as much as his whole body cushions the blow.
As a whole, who knows? But I don't think the devil's fruit powers 'evolve' in the normal sense of the word, but the users find ways to apply the same powers in different ways. That said, I don't think Luffy will ever become immune to anything (even enough non-penetrating bullets should be able to wear Luffy down eventually).
As you said in the first post, Brook was most likely a second stringer then a main fighter if he was one. Looking back the crew Brook came from seems fairly large, I doubt they'd waste paper on a second stringer of a crew that big. I think the only reason Usopp and Nami got bounties was because they showed prowess AND the crew was so small. The marine commented on how unusual it was for a crew to all have bounties.
Hence I think no, Brook won't start with a bounty.
I think if Zoro does beat Kuma, it will have to be after a long fight with everyone else to wear him down a little… because Luffy was defeated a few times before he was able to finally take down Luchi and Crocodile... and Zoro already took battle damage.
In my opinion, Kuma won't OHKO Zoro, but Zoro'll need the help of the crew and some tenacity if he is going to beat a Shichibukai.
Kuma is targeting Zoro and not Sanji because he doesn't recognize Sanji from his Wanted poster.
And why would someone pick a target and not chose Zoro or Sanji first?
@Fire Fist:
Erik was defeated by being thrown into the Ocean.
You missed him saying "Oda is probably never going to use the ocean as a way to defeat someone…" because that is a filler character.
I think the only way to beat Moria now is toss him in the ocean! They do that and victory!
@Kaimei-Karasuhebi:
Well, since Storm is the limit of Luffy's creativity, then It wouldn't be surprising if Doflamingo, Kuma, Jimbei, Mihawk (Hah. Mihawk getting stormed) and Mr.MysteriousSchichibukai were also beaten down by that one…
Limit of his creativity? Was that before or after he invented the gears?
I was hoping to see how much people enjoyed the chapter instead of all this squabbling for once, but alas…
I have to say, I have been looking forward to seeing the crew fight a giant ever since Luffy fought Dorry (while heavily injured by an exploding stomach). Oz appears to be much faster then Dorry and Broggy were, but then again he is also larger, and is legendarily powerful is seems.
That said, and as already stated in the thread, the crew didn't seem to have much teamwork, and then got decimated one or more at a time pretty fast. Now the crew is in a fight they cannot win with personal strength alone, so I'm expecting a Usopp + Chopper fight but on a much grander scale with a whole team of people.
I loved the chapter and can't wait for the next one, I'm anticipating the Oz fight more then the Moria one.
They're not becoming archetypes just because the crew gets focused on evenly and TB is moving at a rapid pace.
I have to agree with most the things Rashou said. I feel their characters are not very conventional and always do things for their own reasons. One thing I hated about anime like Bleach and DBZ was that fighting prowess was everything, and so the stronger characters stuck around, the weaker characters disappeared, became comic relief, or went through training to become stronger.
Luffy always looks toward the goal and the cause, for example in Alabaster he wanted to go straight to Crocodile even though the problem we faced was a rebellion. In Davy Back Fight, everyone got so wrapped up in the fight that they forgot why they started to fight to begin with, except Luffy.
Zoro is, like Rashou said, 'I'll kill you for a sandwich" in the sense that his goal is to become stronger. If there is an enemy that will test his might, or something he wants (like the sword) he will go for it. I was confused why he wanted to accompany Franky to save Brook when he did (Franky being a sappy romantic), but was obvious when he said 'I heard you were a Legendary Swordsman, so you probably have a good sword.'
I don't want to analyze them all, but they all act in character throughout the story. I love the fact that it is not about 'who will split up into what group to complete which objective and defeat x and y foes.', but a well designed group of 8 people (which if you think about it, that's a lot to flesh out in such detail) all doing what they think should be done.
Just because Sanji is not looking to just beat the crap out of the mastermind behind it all, or fight the strongest foes, doesn't mean he should be ostracized for thinking ahead. If thinking ahead put a damper on his dream (if thinking ahead stops you from finding all blue, please tell me) then I would dislike it (like if Zoro skipped a fight with strong opponents to do something else not related to his dream).
Absalom did seem all hyped up, but so did Bellamy. Bellamy had so much potential to be a good fight, but Oda set him up to be a total ass on purpose, so when Luffy shits on him, it'll be satisfying. That's kinda how this fight was set up. Absalom was set up to be everything Sanji was against, and that called for Sanji to go apeshit all over Abs.
Mirror characters usually get owned
I feel that deserves a second saying. Just because someone is powerful doesn't mean they get a good fight. Everyone is starting to sound like they did when they were predicting how many CP9 Usopp would single-handedly crush.
I enjoyed all the fights thus far.
Zoro can purify with his magical swordsman spirit.
Honestly, what have we seen that the zombies are afraid of? We found out they fear salt, but before that (and even in like 3 chapters ago with Usopp) what else did we find they fear?
I can only assume that since all Zombies fear those two things that they would both purify them, which would account for what happened in the chapter.
Hmm, for everyone who reads this pages 18 and 19 are out of order, so just rename them and it is fine.
@Fire Fist:
It hit me before I went to bed.
Honestly I think someone just watched Pirates of the Caribbean.
What I was wondering was why Zoro wanted to go save Brook instead of the more logical 'get his shadow back' and 'destroy Moria'… but swords are always more important to him then his own life.
Lucci: You use your legs as pumps to increase the bloodflow…
Creating a level of blood pressure
that a normal human's heart could never maintain.
But because your organs and veins
are entirely made of rubber, it is possible.
A trick only a rubberman is capable of producing.
True, your body extends beyond its normal physical levels,
but your stamina itself is unable to bear that strengthening...!!
Not very smart, I'm afraid...!!
It is whittling away your very life!!
I Dont mean to get off the topic or anything but is the technique gear a power up that only Luffy can use or is it a technique that every Devil Fruit user use.
There ya go, read line 6
Well first Lucchi says "It is like a stimulant" before it chips away at his life, so it makes me think that if it is shortening his life that it is in a way similar to drugs.
Other than that, I think in any manga where a move "shortens your life" that it is a lame plot device. As Oda is not lame, and Lucchi (or anyone) could not possibly comprehend long term outcomes on a body made up of rubber in a moment in the heat of battle… That no matter what Lucchi meant when he said it, and no matter whether the outcome is long term or short term or both, that we will not witness any long term affects in the scope of this manga (that doesn't take multi-year breaks in plot).
That said, I cannot see how increased pressure can cause any long term effects to a rubber body.
@ultimateclima:
Seriously slim to none chance. Saul is dead now. Can people please stop trying to bring him back to life?
Can you imagine the irony of that statement… when this arc has people literally bringing others back to life? I would think an extreamly strong giant VA corpse would be nice to add to their collection if they could get ahold of it.
Nothing has been said that Moria is not a zombie himself.
@Mr.:
How likely is it for two samurai-style characters to both be samurai, wear samurai clothes, have samurai-hairstyles and do samurai things? I'd say pretty likely, actually!
I should point out that their clothes don't really look anything alike. They're just both very samurai-y. Same goes for the hair. Some people have just been overzealous in their attempts to paint a connection.
As Greg said, it's probably just a little in-reference for his fans who've read Wanted. It's already clear that Ryuma the King and Ryuma Huu act nothing alike.
Er, do you read at all?
Let me requote what you quoted out of context…
And a lot of Oda's characters look similar as well, but what are the chances with all of Oda's published work (or non One Piece published work) for two characters to have the same name, same occupation, do the same notable action, have the same hair style, and have similar clothes.
Granted the last 2 might relate to the 2nd similarity and be less coincidential, but they are similar to a degree and notable because of that.
Do you see that extra sentence at the end? I basically said EXACTLY what you said even before you even said it… How scary.
I said, the last 2 similarities I listed (namely the similar hair and clothes) relate to the 2nd similarity (which is his occupation IE being a samurai) and are less coincidential (which if you need me to explain that too, it means that it is "pretty likely" to a relative degree).
@Mr.:
Having read Monsters now, I dunno. They don't really bear too many similarities outside the name and the slaying the dragon. Maybe Ryuma Huu is an impostor!

Coincidentially, this thread could easily have been answered by heading to the sticky entitled "WHERE TO DOWNLOAD ONE PIECE MANGA".
Yay for stickies, and all the people who read them!
Arg, hate it cause there are 15+ pages most of it nonsense. We should have 2 chapter discussion threads, one for talking about the chapter, and one for everyone else.
Guess we can leave this thread up as a post for everyone who haven't seen it in that thread, or a mod can delete it.
Now I did some searching through the spoiler topic and the main topic and did not find anything on this, so I hope noone said it before:
Here is a quote from the spoiler translation:
Hogback: He's a General zombie who has a special kind of flesh!!! He is a man who came from the "Wano Country" in the New World!!!
Hogback: Believe or not….!! A long time ago, he was known as a legendary samurai who killed a dragon, and his story is still passed down to this day !!!
In the forth story in Oda's short story collection Wanted! entitled Monsters, a swordsman known as Ryuma slays a dragon near the end of the story.
Not only does he fit the description Hogback gave, but he is physically similar to the zombie (has the same hairstyle and similar though less fancy clothes).
I think this character could potentially be one of Oda's other characters being brought back to life in One Piece, since someone brought back post death as a Zombie really has no effect on the original story line.
Now, hope this wasn't said before. I thought this deserved its own thread because it's a large resemblance, and does not really fit into the foreshadowing thread (it's a different story) or the theory thread (it's not really a theory? well maybe). Tell me what you think those who have read Wanted!
Someone mind citing a reference for 'WB is human' then? Because I don't remember that and WB looks almost giant sized to me.
@Impel:
Brook's DF just lets you come back to life once after you've died. It lets you fight about as much as Mr. 2's DF or Apis's DF does.
Ignoring Apis, who is both filler and not a DF user, why can't Mr 2's DF be used to fight? Since Mr 2 used Okama Kempo which needed a carefully trained body, he could not do Okama Kampo in Nami's body, but what stops him from making his body like that of someone with extreme physical prowess to gain an edge in battle (we know he can mix and match body parts, so he could potentially make himself a powerful body).
I think brook's DF is the same way, while the ability is not that it makes his body extreamly light, it does let him live as only bones which itself makes his body light. IF brooke is a fighter, which I don't think he is, then I can easily see him becoming a hit and run style character with increadable jumps and off the wall (literally) moves.
Although they were around for a short time, there was quite a heavy emphasis on them. Nearly all the opponents in the Namek saga were given levels, and even most of the good guys got ratings during the Saiyan arc. Also, Douriki was only shown once, whilst it was a continous element throughout those 2 arcs. The reason why I think it wrecked Dragon Ball is simple: They ascended way too fast. I mean, Goku started off with around 400 . He got more then 375000 times stronger by the end of Frieza. That's crazy.
Ontop of that, if someone had a power level significantly higher then someone else then that person was unbeatable to them. I'm pretty sure someone else posted that douriki was just a measure of physical strength (based on an average soldiers) and that the chance of nami being significantly higher than normal is low and she beat kalifa who was classified "super human" by Luchi and Spandam.
Another reason why I am getting discouraged with Bleach, and the same reason I was discouraged with DBZ, I loved those series but when people need to achieve a goal and MUST do it through fighting AND all they strive for is power and to get stronger in order to win the fight, the story seems to lose some human aspect. While Luffy is striving to get stronger in order to protect his friends and Zoro is striving to get stronger as his goal, and Sanji might be striving to get stronger in order to impress the girls, short term fights are not dependant on getting stronger in the short amount of time between their first encounter and their second; Yes, that means I don't think Luffy is any stronger between his and Luchi's meeting at W7 and their meeting at EL.
Unless Oda starts to do that (which I pray he doesn't) then I don't think One Piece will ever become DBZ.
Are people still trying to fit Brooke into a convention? Not only have we not seen what Brooke can do yet, but OP is the most unconventional manga that makes sense.
If he uses music as a weapon to boost/lower morale I'd be severly disapointed.
Subject, "Will OP be like DBZ?"?
anyway, I think op will never become that, especially for those people who say "i hate so and so's fights" cause I think OP is never about the fights, it's about the ends. If Luffy could have avoided fighting Lucci he would have. Nami got Kumadori's key, and Chopper probably would not have faught him if he didn't have to. Even Sanji told Usopp, it's not doing what's there, you should do what other people can't, and others can do what you can't. If Franky did not head on to save Robin, then Luffy would not have been able to fight Lucci without worry.
As such, I doubt any character will ever be useless. I can live without the cool fights, I like watching the characters react together much better.
No, I believe you, just the way you said it sounded like you incriminated yourself.
No offense intended.
I'm a bit confused (haven't dled), but do you mean the one that says 'Do Not Use For Scanlation' at the top?
I don't dislike the picture, I think a poster with 'Sogeking' would be 100x more intimidating then seeing Usopp's face on it (no offense, it's the Kaku effect).
However, as previously said the marines probably don't care for alter egos, and if Usopp was with Luffy when the photographer came then he would probably have his real picture on the poster as well. They probably prefered the picture of Sogeking over having a drawing based on what the escorting marines (assuming they were picked up) saw.
@Fire Fist:
Was that sarcasm or are you serious?
I was completely serious, next time Usopp fights a Squirtle he will start laughing "wahaha, water does not make me lose my powers! You are doomed!"
I know Usopp's fruityness has already been debunked, but just wanted to point out when Usopp and Luffy were in the seastone cage, that only Luffy got tired from grabbing the bars (Not to mention the waste deep water part as well). His ability to get out of water by himself is not his devils fruit power, but he also has the power to resist seastone.
Usopp ate the protection from water fruit.
We know from the story Whitebeard and Roger faught 'many times' (from Shanks and Whitebeard's conversation), and we have yet to find anyone that chased Luffy fast enough for that.
Granted, he did technically fight Buggy and Wapol twice, but I think they need to be a little more recurring then that.
Which is why we must support our #2 crew man to the semi finals! We must not lose to Gene!
Sanji is up today! Everyone vote for him cause not only is he almost as badass as Zoro, but his competition is a guy who kills himself and a punk who the cast of his show doesn't respect.
We knew that they had some way of Identifying the fruits because Shank's crew knew what the Gomu Gomu fruit was.
My guess is the list is not complete and the only reason CP9 got the 2 fruits rather then going to more testing was that they had no clue what the fruits were. After Kaku and Kalifa's dinner 2 more pages of that devil's fruit book were filled.
