usually in every arc before we got huge lore dumps and flashbacks or explanations of the islands problems (drum/alabasta) before luffy finishes the villian off.
in wano we got that with oden/yamato flashback as well BUT the rest, well in fact a huge lore dump, is still missing. but the fights are already resolved.
that‘s what feels off. at least now i realise that more and more. oda did not want to give us those important aspects of wano story arc yet, for what ever reason. maybe we would cheer on luffy in a different way then?
(btw i still cheered for luffy and i am happy for him that he is on par with a yonko. it’s a milestone! how else could luffy face shanks?)
now i am more interested if oda indeed changed his storytelling here or if we are just not done yet
(uhm well orochi as a villian; that concluded…but it was not luffy or a strawhat who finished the job)

Oda put that clue there but he obscured it SO much it didn't register as an actual mystery or clue. Like I get he was trying to hide the surprise and that's his prerogative, but it would be nice if we could with hindsight go "oh, it was obvious! We just didn't know to look!" rather than "Well, I guess he sort of did it there... kind of."

I feel like there should have been an option such as "Don't care for the rebranding of Luffy's devil fruit, but love everything else about it". I didn't need a new name for the fruit, but it being called "the most ridiculous power" and Luffy using it to do all kind of crazy Looney Tunes antics is just too perfect and fits the whole series so well.

And at its core, One Piece has always been a story about liberation i.e. breaking down borders; whether those borders represent physical borders, sovereign imposed ones or emotional borders that characters unconsciously develop to "protect" themselves.

as the days are closing in for the next chapter, i get some gear second chapter ending vibes (now)
I can't say I'm very interested in the type of "Luffy is the Chosen One" direction this all seems to be going, but I do feel like it's a little too early to complain yet. I'm willing to wait to see where exactly Oda is going with all of this. Fact is that we really have no idea what "becoming Joyboy" really means. Why is it happening? What does it entail? What kind of powers will it unlock? Does it even really have anything to do with Luffys goal to find the One Piece and become the Pirate King? Kaido seemed to think so, or else I don't see why exactly he was interested in becoming Joyboy himself (it's not like would care about freeing any slaves), but why?
So I can't say I'm not excited about this development (if not a little wary) or interested in what's going to happen next. It's certainly executed very well in this and the last chapter, I still really dig that twist of the CP-0 meddling with the fight and inadvertently forcing Kaido to relive his unfair win against Oden. Kaido doesn't get enough credit as a character and as a villain, I really find him pretty interesting…he's such a walking contradiction! I know people are already suffering from arc fatigue, and I'm also ready at this point to enter the post-battle phase of the arc, but some kind of Kaido flashback exploring what he is all about is still a must for me from a narrative standpoint.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I don't think Oda will have Luffy's personality be permanently overridden by the original Joyboy or anything like that. What did Oda focus on in Chapter 1,000? Luffys character, showing him caring for his friends and then declaring that he is Monkey D Luffy, and he will become the King of the Pirates. That tells me that at it's heart, this is still what the story is all about, this character's adventure on his journey to become the Pirate King, and that is what it's about for Oda, too. He will not have Luffy be basically replaced by a different person in his body all of a sudden. Maaaaaaybe for a short amount of time, but I'm sure at the end of the day, Luffy will still be Luffy. I trust Oda more than enough in this regard.

furthermore, i was also hoping for a kaido flashback just this chapter - i felt like it was the perfect moment to hop on and then luffy just gets back up after the full flashback.

as for theory:
I think the biggest takeaway that people who are upset at Kaido's portrayal in the last several chapters are not considering is the Scabbard's sudden use of Ryuo and their ability to inflict damage to Kaido. This is the second time that we are getting Kaido's thoughts on what is happening to him in real time, even he himself is confused which hints towards that what the Scabbard's are currently doing is unsustainable/one time event.

(Perhaps Oden's reference to his "soul living on" in this panel has an additional meaning to just his will being passed on to his followers and children.)
I don't know exactly, but I'm spitballing here for possible reasons because of Kaido's dual internal monologues. Kaido's been around the block, it is very clear to me that Oda demonstrating twice that Kaido being damaged and being confused about it is abnormal.
i have been thinking about kaido's inner thoughts as well.
ryuo means you inflict damage to the users body from the inside to outside, and one can achieve that due to their haki (and maybe haki sorrounding them?) directly flowing through their own body into the enemies body, right?
from that i kinda get the vibe that kaido is kinda "letting" it happen because he still has alot of respect towards oden (oden lives on in HIS mind as well)
it makes it easier for the scabbards with their clear goal to avenge oden (thinking and being driving by him) to get that flow of haki going - especially because they are doing this as a group!
and btw it is still a 9 vs. 1 fight, sure kaido should have "some" trouble, he can't be the beast that deflects everything with ease
dunno why some people expect him to be like that. i at least don't want him to be invincible at all, i really enjoyed the fight so far.
this makes oden's sacrifice worth more or understandable, because he trusted his vassals. that trust is pushing them to their limits now.

and at the end of the war kaido(or orochi) will get cut into pieces by law just like kinemon and the former wano islands!
i like that as utter defeat. although i am expecting that tama will play a crucial role as well

I'm not sure if Kaido has kairouseki is his club, but I should point out that one of his underlings phrased Kaido's victory in a weird way in chapter 924:

Maybe it means something, maybe it means nothing… but we should have in mind that the club is special, and one of the reasons may be kairouseki. The next page after this one shows Hawkins explaining that Wano makes more sophisticated kairoseki items than the rest of the world.
However, we should also remember that Kaido one-shotted Oden, who was not a devil fruit user, so I don't know how kairouseki could have helped in any meaningful way other than being a hard metal.

i've started reading OP on a weekly basis since enies lobby as well, a short time before i created this account on APforums.
and in addition - at start just to support this series - i began buying the volumes in my native language, german. i've been doing this shortly after actually.
sometimes i slack in reading those newly printed volumes and just wait for the current arc to finish or reach a certain point. this is when i start reading in a bulk, and i enjoy it alot.
reading some volumes in a bunch or even a full arc makes me appreciate the storytelling and character development. it can tighten the emotional continuity just as theackwardstation said, especially true for those long flashbacks.
my goal is to re-read the full series when it finally concludes, but this time in japanese
Shiryu from the Blackbeard crew: do you think he comes from Wano? I've read some theories about it a long time ago. Could he appear in this arc? We know Blackbeard is going to 'take something' but what if its something that's in Wano? Or maybe he could just sent Shiriyu there while he takes care of other stuff,like he sent Burgess in Dressrosa.

Would also be fun to see Kizaru playing the part of Perry and showing up to unleash a Buster Call on Wano, only for Blackbeard to blast his fleet to shit first before moving on to Wano. But that might just congest things way too much.

Lots of Porco Rosso love here, which is understandable, but I can't be alone in thinking Princess Mononoke is the clear magnum opus. It's such a beautiful, powerful movie. Easily a top five of all time, not just of Ghibli. Miyazaki managed to take the more epic, mature feeling of the Nausicaa manga and actually fit it all into a single movie without feeling like there was anything missing or left unexplored (like the Nausicaa movie).

i did follow this discussion and watched those recommended movies (porco, spirited away, nausicca on netflix) and spirited away is on top of those 3
tho all movies have a good drawstyle, but i never got the emotional connection to the movie like i'd get in princess mono, tbh.

I think it's nice to have the future World's Greatest Swordsman use some of the world's most famous blades for a time but I'm still hoping for all 3 cursed blades to be Zoro's endgame swords.No one uses them and it presents an opportunity for Zoro to make those swords his own rather than using the famed blade of someone else. Enma is famous because it was Oden's sword and what he accomplished with it, and Shusui is famous because it was Ryuuma's sword and what he accomplished with it. I want Zoro to make his own swords famous through his own accomplishments. To make his own legend.
Everyone fears the Kitetsu blades and avoids them like the plague but Zoro is shown to be the only man crazy enough to use them. Not to mention his character theme is Asura the Anti-God and he's always being compared to a demon himself. Making him wield all 3 cursed blades just fits his character extremely well.
yea, i'm with you. zoro using cursed swords would make sense, as you described. he had fun as he got sandai kitetsu.
his "demonic" presence is increasing alot in wano i feel, and i think it just leads to the outcome that he'll gain kitetsu II.
he was very keen about that sword the first time he saw it, and it is rather suspicious that oda placed it in the background so quickly again.

Since this never happend during past 20 years (or even before) with Kaidou raising his army for quite a while (and even before SMILEs he probablly had his top notch Yonkou Crew), I really can't see why we should underestimate Orochi.
Maybe it is only his nobel birth and his name, but maybe it is something about his history with Oden (flashback material) or has something to do with his devil fruit (also flashback material, think of some hidden connection with those three ryu devil fruits we have so far and lurking vegapunk behind all this). I can not see why Kaidou would trust him of all people to rule in his name if he didn't have any power, connection or deeper meaning fot Kaidou. But maybe I am overthinking it too much.
yeah i second that, there has to be a deeper connection and maybe momosuke might be the savior with his devilfruit, to gain control over them - somehow.
might be the reason why vegapunk created that artificial zoan in the first place (or was forced to). and why orochi demanded vegapunk in the negotiations with cp0
