Why is no one talking about Ryback's messed up eye and double muscle buster?

RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
I just watched SD, but HOW AWESOME was Damien Sandow's assault?! I'd been wondering how his character would work. And I love the gimmick. But when Yoshi called him chicken, I expected a big response of Yoshi's foolishness, followed by a Ryback stomping. Instead, Sandow breaks out the brutality with a full nelson face-smash multiple times into the turnbuckle, followed by locking his arm and doing several knees to the face and finishing with a neckbreaker (in a style I've never been a huge fan of, too much set up for a move that doesn't look all that much more impressive, but hey you can't win them all). Still, I'm glad he didn't go complete wuss and is a threat on top of his snob.

RE: Western Comics thread
X-Men Legacy 266 made She Hulk seem like much more of an irrational and cruel character than she usually is. Falcon was also overly forceful which didn't seem really in character. Moon Knight being a bit of a dick and Frenzy being confrontational and provoking him were very well in character though. Still it was a solid issue and it's all leading up to Rogue vs Ms. Marvel in a few issues, with the tag line saying "One of these two [Rogue and Ms. Marvel] will switch sides." I've really got to assume Ms. Marvel joins the X-Men side, what with her Binary history and background from Chris Claremont writing her originally.
Night of the Owls issues have been pretty good so far. I don't really understand the whole random General who apparently owns all the land in Gotham from B&R thing, and if that will somehow make a huge difference later, though. Kind of came off odd. This "event" at least provided good fights for the sidecharacters, and The Batman book by Snyder is great as always.
The Culling in Teen Titans has been really disappointing for me, though. I love the TT and Superboy books since the reboot, and all the lead-up material about N.O.W.H.E.R.E. but now that it is happening, it just didn't live up. It isn't over yet, so hopefully it has an awesome big finish.
Sano, I really hope you're going to get the new Captain Marvel series in the issues. That book needs major support to keep from being canned. The Brian Reed Ms. Marvel series really made her stand out as an incredible character again, and I was really disappointed when it ended at issue 50, so I'm looking greatly forward to it!

God damn, Cena was hilarious with his "LOOOOOSSSERRAAGGHHHIIIILLLLAA" schtick

@Nex:
sort of like Spiderman with the whole Peter Parker being molested thing.
…wait, what? Never heard this.

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
Loved the movie, even though I feel the opening 30 minutes or so were very slow, the crazy action of the last half mostly made up for it.
-
RE: The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Gyrich is just as big a part of the Avengers as he is the X-Men.
SWORD is a bigger indication of X-Men cameos, considering it was introduced during an X-Men run and still interacts with them on a regular basis. Agent Brand also dates Beast.
SWORD also seems to trust the X-Men more than the Avengers to me.
But yeah, Gyrich is more of the "hates all superhumans" type, whereas I think Trask is the "anti-mutant" one.
-
RE: The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
It was an excellent episode, mostly about Ms. Marvel. Escalating the plot for he Skrull invasion/ Kree-Skrull war storyline.

Axe Cop cartoon being produced for Fox
Could be crazy awesome.

RE: Western Comics thread
@Jedi:
read a couple more iron man comics, including stark resilient, they were really fun
I read today Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man 1-6, who here read this one?
HHaven't read Stark Resilient. That is the Heroic Age arc, right? Following Dark Reign?
I've read Ultimate Comics Spider-Man. Which one do you mean, though? The current run with Miles Morales or the first retitling with Peter Parker? I enjoy both well enough, but I feel a bit of a sow start with Miles compared to Ultimates and Ultimate X-Men which dropped heavy into the action. It is good characterization and growth to get accustomed with, so I can excuse it, and recent issues have picked up the intensity very well.

RE: Ultimate Spider-Man (2012 cartoon)
By the way was This the way Ultimate Universe Venom was created? It seems kind of more complicated then an alien.
Completely different. The symbiote was the work of Peter's and Eddie Brock's fathers as a suit to stop diseases like cancer. I don't remember all the specifics, but it drove the wearer to become enraged.

RE: The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Surtur! Man, oh man! Avengers EMH is the best superhero cartoon ever!

RE: Young Justice RETURSN OMG
! totally forgot about Red Arrow's relation to Vandal Savage. Wonder if that had something to do with the betrayal.
-
RE: Ultimate Spider-Man (2012 cartoon)
I understand and even agree with everyone's complaints about the show, but it is still decently entertaining to me. And I really like the animation style. That being said, I did crack up every time it cut away to Spidey in the jetpack.

RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
I hate the current GM…I really do.
Doesn't that automatically mean he's doing his job?
I'm actually loving Big Johnny. Much better than peanut-head, Teddy Long in my opinion.
Agreed. I was so sick of Teddy as a GM.

RE: Western Comics thread
I actually can't help but think the X-Men will win. I think Cyclops will die to complete his tragic arc by saving Earth, then the X-Men will push forward to become the victors.
Cyke would probably be revived at the end by the Phoenix, though.
-
RE: Western Comics thread
I like both sides. A lot, actually. It's just that Cyclops comes off in the wrong. Yeah, he isn't attacking powerless innocents, but he is obsessed and it is driving him down a dark path. He's scared and angry and it could turn him. I disagreed with him in Schism, too.
Oh, and Doom saved the world several times as part of the FF. And he's still a villain. :P
-
RE: Western Comics thread
"Where were you when we needed you?!" Is what Cyclops said. He threw a hissy out of nowhere that Cap didn't help the mutants, when A. Cyclops had told him before to leave them to handle it, and B. What the hell could they do to bring mutants back anyway?
And the trespassing, I dunno. Cyclops is 100% acting like a villian. Even Magneto said this. So unless you complain that the Fantastic Four are trespassing and in the wrong anytime they thwart the evil machinations of Doom on Latverian soil, I don't think that is an excuse to blast at him the way he did.
Cap wasn't going to quit, but he listens to reason. If Cyclops hadn't been an ass, he could have talked it over with Cap and they all could have worked together. By taking the first shot, he started the war. I see him in the wrong.

RE: Western Comics thread
My God, Infinite Comics are SMOOTH. Honestly wish I could see this quality on a tablet instead of just my phone. The use of set-up, the slow reveals, and especially that one panel where it shifts focus from Nova to the Phoenix Force were all implemented wonderfully. I am a complete believer in the Infinite format.
The AR bonuses were pretty cool as well. I like seeing the way it goes from roughs to pencils to inks to color. I enjoyed the Bendis soundbite talking during the one Nova AR page.
Issue itself was great too. They got to the crux of the matter and have started the battle really fast. Avengers want to protect Hope and stop the Phoenix from ever getting to Earth. Scott wants to throw Hope into it and use her powers to make mutants the top force.
Cyclops laying the smackdown on Cap was great. I can't wait for some more X-Men domination.
Wait. Laying the smackdown? He threw a hissy fit and tried to eyeblast Cap point-blank, and Cap blocked it completely with his shield.
He laid the smackdown on Hope when he was spending his time beating up teenage girls.

RE: Western Comics thread
Well, AvX has tie-in issues with just about every X-Men and Avengers title, so Kitty and Rachel will certainly be a part of AvX in the WatX and X-Men Legacy ones, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them have a role in the main feature. They're part in the story is most likely waiting until the mid-section when we find out where the Logan side of X-Men will fall in for the AvX battle.

RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
Anybody still bitching about Kane or some youngblood not getting a chance to challenge Undertaker in what is probably his last match can eat dick pure & simple
I don't kow if you think that's what I meant, but I don't want to see Taker v a new kid nd I definitely don't want to see Kane.
Taker needs to lose because that is what you do when you are at the end of your career: pass the torch. Not to mention, him losing is the ony way to complete the story arc of the past four years. And if you think I'm wrong about Taker being at the end and not doing much fo wrestling, think about the fact that the Rock had at least 5 times as many appearances than him over the last year. Fact is,he needs to lose because he isn't bigger than the business

RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
John Cena vs. The Rock
Cena all the way! Let's go, Cena!
The Undertaker vs. Triple H (Hell in a Cell Match with special referee Shawn Michaels) …
HHH. Fuck that Streak.WWE Champion CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho
Gotta be Punk since this feud is not likely to end early and Y2J has pushed him too far.
World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus
Gotta be Sheamus. I know D Bryan has the whole heel shenanigans to use, but I can't see anything other than Sheamus kicking his teeth in
Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Big Show
Please, please, please let Cody win clean.
Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny
All about the Ace. Heel GMs are what actually works, I've been sick of Teddy Long for nearly 3 years now, and Johnny is too damn fun.
Randy Orton vs. Kane
My only question is what cool RKO will he use?
Kelly Kelly & Maria Menounos vs. Divas Champion Beth Phoenix & Eve
While I would LOVE to see Beth Glam-slam a celebrity (even though Menounos is kinda barely a celeb), history favors celebs getting the rub.
WWE Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match
I honestly wouldn't complain with any of these teams winning. Primo and Epico have good matches and Rosa is sexy even if she's freaking useless for anything else. Justin Gabriel and Tyson Kidd could definitely do some crazy stuff and will likely work very well together. The Usos are a good team who never got their fair shake at performing since tag wrestling is so stagnant in WWE lately.
I'm going to pick the Usos for some reason, but chances are Primo and Epico retain.

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
I thought Iron Man and Thor were the best, then Incredible Hulk. Iron Man 2 is pretty decent, and I don't like Cap much, myself.
-
RE: Western Comics thread
Avengers vs X-Men 0 was nice buid up. Loved seeing Scarlet Witch, Ms. Marvel and Spider Woman working together and supporting one another. Vision was really harsh. Didn't expect that at all. Hope was surprisingly vicious and cruel, while Cyclops was playing the understandable leader, rying to keep her safe while preparing her. I definitely think Hope went too far.
Team Avengers!
-
RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
Oh, Johnny Ace. Never leave. You bring me too many laughs.
"Congrats, Miz! You're on Team Teddy! …Team Johnny!"

RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
To me, Premier is the second best spot after Floor. Lower level costs more and is actually worse to me, since you tend to get blocked by the Floor crowd. Premier isn't too high like Upper concourse (which still isn't even all that terrible, since Staples Center is pretty small) so you get a great view of everything. It's just when you get stuck beside the stage that is awful. Especially when SD hand the giant fist. That damn thing jutted out and blocked everything.
-
RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
Does your ticket say "limited view"? As long as it doesn't premier is great.
-
RE: Western Comics thread
I agree, Sano, the new costume looks absolutely great.
Kelly Sue interview on Captain Marvel
Great interview and has me greatly excited for this book, since DeConnick really gets Carol's character and is sure to do fantastic things with her.
Like she asked, pre-order this book. Make it a success! Female-led books are all too rare and this one looks too good to let down!
Some additional pics are out now and even the hairstyle looks pretty cool.
-
RE: Western Comics thread
Looks like Carol is going to become the new Captain Marvel and getting a new series.
Which is FANTASTIC! I'm a big fan of what I have read by Kelly Sue DeConnick so I'm looking forward to it. Even though I don't love the new hair-do in the cover previews, I hope this is a big success
Also, Dazzler will be leading a team of X-Treme X-Men. Cool

RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
Cause he hasn't pissed anybody off (yet).
Vince doesn't care if you piss people off if you're doing a god damn great job. Cody has earned every damn thing he has and is clearly ready for more.
-
RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
Yay! The US title gets to be a joke again! :/ that's what I get for thinking Swagger would do something eventually.
At least Cody is making the Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship fucking MATTER.
-
RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
Well, Money In The Bank PPV is set for July 15, so that is another reason not to have MitB at WM. You don't need three briefcase holders. Plus, plenty of guys can get in for a Team Laurinaitis v Team Long elimination tag match or something.
-
RE: Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance
I really enjoyed it. It was fun, mindless action. Also, it had some very creative filming shots, most notably the telephone conversation between Roark and Blackout. Moreau was radically awesome, too.
-
RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
I would normally agree with you… but half the movies he does are low bugdet and/or WWE produced affairs, they don't exactly "tax" him the way real movies do.
The Rock is in legit Hollywood productions - there's a giant difference.
Hell, Rock's last movie alone made more money than all of Cena's combined...
I would think YOU of all people would understand that, since you're always heckling me about the WWE being the only "real" wrestling promotion on God's green Earth.
I would be on Cena's side except for one tiny detail that bugs me; Rock already did his time and his bloodline is entrenched in Wrestling lore; he stopped having to prove himself a decade ago.
Oh, I understand it. I'll even admit that I would just do movies and never go back to WWE. But to come back and talk the way he is, while stumbling and barely showing up, is simply bad style.
Wrestling bloodline is a great thing to have, but it doesn't mean shit if you aren't putting everything into wrestling. This is why David Flair is a nothing, despite being direct from one of the greatest of all time. This is why McGillicutty is mediocre despite being a 3rd generation wrestler.
I wouldn't put Rock's movies on a different level of strain than Cena's by much, though. I'm sure his filming sets take much longer, since big budget movies prefer to do multiple takes and really get it right, whereas low budget B movies like WWE Films wrap much more quickly, but does this change that Cena still performed in a 2 hour movie just like the Rock? Nope. Rock didn't need to be on Raw every week like Cena was, but to make an appearance once a month or so would have done the storyline a huge service. This match could be so much bigger than it is. I'm still looking forward to it, but Rock clearly has not made WrestleMania his priority. Which, again, I understand and somewhat even agree with, but disappoints me greatly.
-
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
Maybe she would fit in more if they gave her a bazooka or an assault rifle, instead of that tiny 9mm..
I think she fits in fine and will have some cool scenes in the movie, but I do wish she had her crazy bracelets from the comics.
-
RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
Am I the only who hopes they DON'T add too many more matches?
I mean the two World titles and the two monster feuds should be huge matches. They could all do fantastic 30 minute matches. Cody v Show is a sure thing (c'mon embarrassing Big Show WM moment #4), they'll add in a Diva match (Beth v Kharma? Kelly v Eve? Natalya v flatulence?), and apparently a MitB match and possible Team Laurainitis v Team Long. That is PLENTY. Hell, I'd still hope none of those went over 10 minutes, just to give The big matches plenty of time.
I like my matches long.
-
RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
But at the same time… I did lol (HARR DEE FAAACK HARRR type of lulz) when Cena said something like "I did movies and I stayed."
He calls the sh*t he's been "movies?"
:V
Even if it is a crappy script with a lower budget, he still needs to take the time to shoot a movie and keep wrestling, with only minor breaks. His point is valid. If Rock wanted to really be involved, he could be. I mean, they built a year hype for this match, but Rock didn't show up even once a month, even on video. Maybe 3 live appearances and 3 pre-taped?

RE: Western Comics thread
Just finished reading Kaare Andrews' Spider-Man: Reign. It definitely had a large influence by Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, but also had its own identity by focusing on the way Peter deals with his pains.
It was very interesting to see the idea of how Peter would react long in the future, after losing all his loved ones and watching NYC become a despotic dystopia. He let go of power and responsibility and it hurt his life even further, but after being spurned forth by the actions of J. Jonah Jameson, of all people to cheer Spidey, albeit in his own abrasive ball-busting of ways, he seeks to make things right and stop his most vicious enemies.
My main problem with the story is the delusional Mayor Waters excuses and justifications for the way he has taken control of the city. Definitely had some commentary on the Patriot Act in the way it defined a city that was put into a police state and took all of its citizen's freedom in exchange for "safety." But Waters then allowing hundreds of people to be slaughtered as "sacrifice for protection" just didn't fit.
Lastly, it also played a little too vague with some of its characterizations. A sedated and starved Kingpin is wheeled out, but is not explained what reason Waters has to do this, nor is Fisk even named, it just seems to be Fisk based upon commentary. Some scenery seems peculiar as to if it is Peter hallucinating or if it is actually happening.
Regardless, I all-in-all enjoyed Reign. I liked a lot of the message, I loved the pain and struggle, I loved the reason Peter originally gave up being Spider-Man (man, it was a doozy! Sadness!), and I respected the ending.
Anyone else read this one?
@RobbyBevard:
Nah, I only go to the theaters for Pixar movies. I can wait the 4 months on anything else to hit dvd.
I'm a huge movie guy. I love going to the theater and catching the movie on the big screen with full sound. It has gotten pretty expensive, so for the most part, I basically only go to the before noon $6 shows or the student days on Thurs for $7.50 (thank goodness that midnight premieres go on student price!) But I find it worth the trip.
I have yet to see a Pixar movie in the theater. I'm going to see Brave since that is the first Pixar movie to look really entertaining from the very first trailer to me. Of the Pixar movies I have seen, I have only really enjoyed Incredibles for the fun, quotable movie that it is. I only own Incredibles and Finding Nemo, for that matter.
I'm not really a fan of their cg animation style and haven't been wowed by their stories. I still prefer standard Disney.
Speaking of Disney, I may be able to catch a special sneak premiere of John Carter of Mars tonight! Should be pretty awesome.

RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
I like how Cena trashed Rock face to face, then left after making his point, and only after Cena was gone, Rock goes, "You're lucky you left before I smacked the taste out of our mouth!" I half expected Cena to come running back and pull a "What, bitch?!" Moment. Hahahaha
Honestly, I know this will never happen, but Cena so badly outdid Rock that I imagined a WM where they did the story as "Rock's been living the sweet life in Hollywood while Cena's been working and fighting in the WWE, and Cena 'goes heel' by just brutally mauling Rock."
Jericho v Punk will be amazing. Best In The World At What I Do v Best Wrestler In The World. Nice.
Team Ace all the way! I love how he's a blend of Bischoff's douchebaggery and corruption and Adamle's awful acting and goofiness!

RE: Western Comics thread
I've got to say I am very excited for Ends of the Earth. Only ten issues after wrapping up the best event of 2011 with Spider Island, Amazing Spider-Man will begin EotE with issue 682.
Personally, I think Spider-Man's big events with him at the center are where he shines. I love done-in-one stories, too, but his larger stories are the ones that always excite me. Slott's run has been fun in both forms, but Spider Island was definitely the standout. It remains to be seen if EotE will have several tie-ins or just be the main story in ASM.
The Sinister Six have been building up in the background for some time, and even had 676 all to themselves in a fun battle, so their huge comeback is sure to be great.
And for Chameleon's promo, does anyone else think he looks like he's impersonating J. Jonah Jameson?
-
RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
I didn't realize they have the official set-up of what was scrapped. I do like MitB at WM, and the idea that there will only be one person from both shows who can cash in on anyone he pleases, but am surprised that MitB was cut. It, Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, and Elimination Chamber were the only "event" PPVs that actually make sense.
Hell in a Cell does not work as a PPV, TLC doesn't work as a PPV, etc, but building a PPV around the MitB did make sense.
-
RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
Is MitB going back to WM? Was that one of the scrapped PPVs?
-
RE: WWE and other fed: Disccusion
Yes, Taker Vs. Bossman, which I consider that match as trainwreck.
Because it is a trainwreck. It was like 9 minutes and horrible. The only memorable thing is Taker hanging the Boss Man. Taker v HHH III in HiaC though. Wow. Has major potential. Hell… it might even need to close the show.
