RE: FIFA World Cup 2010 Thread
USA USA USA USA USA USA USA.
I am a die hard fan of American Football, and nothing will change that. But god damn, that was probably one of the most exciting moments that I've ever witnessed watching sports.

RE: 2009-2010 NFL Discussion Thread
The pass interference call and the incompletion called a catch annoyed me the most, but the Vikings had ridiculous opportunities that they never cashed in on the entire game.
The biggest obviously being the muffed punt recovery inside the ten that they fumbled away. That was the changing point of the game, imo. A championship team needs to score there.

RE: 2009-2010 NFL Discussion Thread
While I agree about that last pass not being a catch in any way, I'd blame the five turnovers before blaming the refs.

RE: 2009-2010 NFL Discussion Thread
Fearless predictions for the Divisional round:
Colts over Ravens, Manning will eat up the Ravens weak cornerbacks, but Baltimore's running game will keep them in it.
Chargers over Jets, SD is the hottest team in the league bar none, and in my opinion should be the odds on favorites to win it all. Philip Rivers will go all PHILIIIIIIIIIIIIP RIIIIIIIIIIIIIVERS and I really don't see this one being close.
Cardinals over Saints, upset of the weekend. Kurt Warner is one of the greatest postseason QBs of all time, and this team actually seems to step up and play better when Boldin is out of the lineup. The Saints picked a bad time to tank(and unlike the Colts, they did it while trying to go for 16-0).
Vikings over Cowboys, I'm still not a believer in Tony Romo. I think this will be the game that he'll choke, and Favre will take advantage of his opportunities. This could be the best game of the weekend, but I'll go with the Vikes because I just don't like to bet against Favre in the big moment.

RE: 2009-10 NBA Season
Rockets fan here.
Gonna be a down year with Yao and McGrady out for the foreseeable future. I think the West is gonna be a great race between the Lakers and the Spurs, while the Celtics, Magic, and Cavs should keep up their dominance of the East.
I'm still not sure if James and Shaq can co-exist, though. Or if Shaq was even the right way to go for the Cavs.

Brett Favre plays for the Vikings? They're playing the Packers tonight?
I hadn't heard.

RE: 2009-2010 NFL Discussion Thread
Same here. Remember how you told me last year that the Steelers blow and the Browns were going to do good?
Yeah…]
Yeah, the Browns were fooling a lot of people going into last year.
Though, while they obviously don't blow, I still think the Steelers are going to hit a downward slide in the next few years. However, it's probably going to be the Ravens, rather than the Browns, that take control of the division. Pittsburgh has a horrible offensive line and an aging defense(more importantly, an aging D-Coordinator in Dick "Jesus" LeBeau). Once LeBeau's brilliant defensive mind is gone, I think the Steelers dominance will go with it.

RE: 2009-2010 NFL Discussion Thread
Another season, and like always, I find myself asking why I like the Cleveland Browns.
10 years of futility and counting. I guess I just have the thought that I have a long life to live, and eventually they should stop sucking.

RE: General Cosplay Thread
So, I'm in need of some help.
I've never cosplayed before, but a friend and I have decided to be Lucci and Kaku for Halloween. I'm being Kaku, and I'm wondering what the best course of action would be for the nose.
Thanks in advance!

RE: Do you have a passion that you want to pursue as a Career
I want to end up with a high-level job with the front office of a major American sports team, preferably in the NFL. I don't know many people who's passions are both sports and manga, but that's what I am. It's probably a really long path, but it's something that's worth working my ass off for.

RE: NFL 2008-2009 season thread
Not at all. Manning vs Manning would make ESPN explode. It'll be possibly worse that BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE back in the offseason.
Give me Colts vs Panthers for my prediction, Colts winning it all. Peyton looks unstoppable right now.

RE: Thanksgiving
The Macy's Parade just Rickrolled America.
This will truly be an epic Thanksgiving.

RE: NFL 2008-2009 season thread
You know, I can honestly say I've given Derek Anderson a clean slate at the beginning of every game this year. I wanted him to succeed, and prove the front office was right about him.
But, now, I'm done. I never want to him on the field again. Start Brady Quinn, we're already paying him 24 million dollars to sit on the sidelines and making commercials. Start him, dump DA over the offseason, and pick up a veteran backup for Quinn.
Cleveland should have won this game, easily, but Anderson found ways to lose.

RE: NFL 2008-2009 season thread
Speaking of Roy Williams, a first, third, and sixth round pick, plus a seventh in 2010? That's insane.
I imagine they just want a monopoly on Roy Williamses.

RE: NFL 2008-2009 season thread
Oh, hi, we're the Cleveland Browns, and we're back.
-
RE: NFL 2008-2009 season thread
@Ral:
Yeah, Browns finally won.
And, in turn, probably bought Crennel and Anderson another game. I don't know whether to be excited about the win(in which they still looked pretty bad), or disappointed that those two will still be in charge in Cleveland.

RE: NFL 2008-2009 season thread
One more comment, The Detroit Lions have made history by being the first team to ever win against the bye week, by firing Matt Millen.
-
RE: NFL 2008-2009 season thread
Seriously, with Brady out, the AFC East might be the most wide open division in the NFL. Besides the NFC West, but I don't count that one, as 6-10 might actually win it.
I just can't believe I dropped Ronnie Brown from my fantasy team on Saturday night. Still won, though.

RE: NFL 2008-2009 season thread
I noticed he not only took the spread option to UM, but his team's ability to fumble over 9000 times in any game that matters.
If UM gives Rod the time, he'll win. Especially in the Big Ten. Speed kills teams in that conference. But, man, Stew just looks lost right now, I don't know. We have some really high profile recruits coming in(Tajh Boyd and Logan Heastie, number 3 QB in and number 1 WR respectively, and some more that have solid verbals), but I hope we can salvage this season so we keep them and stay on the right track.
I honestly still have high hopes that WVU can win the conference(it is the Big Least, afterall), USF seems to be the one team that's resoundingly good right now, and they come to Morgantown in December. Not prime weather for Florida teams.
I'll trust in Pat White and Noel Devine till the end. They come to play, the rest of the team needs to gel around them. White, especially, deserves more in his senior year.

RE: NFL 2008-2009 season thread
PROTIP: Don't ever believe the Browns will be good. They'll just break your heart more than normal.
Also, leave my team alone, Crennel. And take Anderception with you.
And don't forget the second act of my Season of Crushing Disappointment: The West Virginia Mountaineers. What the hell, guys?

RE: Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics
So, that Michael Phelps guy.
He's pretty good at swimming.

RE: Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics
USA basketball would win gold if they played blindfolded.
But, honestly, they have no excuse to get anything less. I normally only follow basketball, but I may watch a bit more this year, if only to escape the madness of BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE BRETT FAVRE.

RE: Bakuman
I thought the first chapter was pretty good.
And, I like how they referenced Death Note twice.
-
RE: American Football Thread
Once again, enjoy your sacks.
And enjoy paying Ben ROFLsberger 100 million dollars to get pummeled, because their O-line is awful.
-
RE: American Football Thread
Well, he wants to come back, and have the Packers grant him an unconditional release. But, the Packers say they'll take him back, but won't release him. If he ends up getting released, the Vikings would be the best fit. With a competent QB, they'd be pretty good.
Personally, I think it would be hilarious if Favre comes back to Lambeau, Week One, playing for the Vikings, on the day Green Bay is supposed to retire his jersey.
-
RE: American Football Thread
Hopefully no ones rages at me for double posting, but it's almost ACTUAL football season. Training camp is soon upon us, and this thread should be bumped for the new season.
Also:
Believe it.

RE: Dissidia: Final Fantasy (It's a fighter it seems…)
That trailer proves that nothing with even the slightest connection to Final Fantasy VII can be made without the token Sephiroth-walking-out-of-a-wall-of-fire scene.
Game looks awesome, though.

Phil Jackson has BAWWWWWWWING about officials down to a science.
Boston in 6. They'll win one in LA, then win it at home.

RE: Stanley Cup 2008
Inches away, dammit. Next year, as long as they can keep Hossa, is their year.
I was sure Zetterberg was going to drop the Conn Smythe Trophy, though. Which would have been a moral victory.
How long until football season?
-
RE: Stanley Cup 2008
They're winning this series now. They have to. After this.
Considering that Petr Sykora is now some goal-predicting hockey demon, they have it in the bag. He just has to say he'll score.
-
RE: Stanley Cup 2008
FOUR MINUTE POWER PLAY. This has to be it, Pens.
If it isn't, this game is going to still be going on when Game 6 would be scheduled to start.
EDIT: Told ya. Related: Petr Sykora told ya.
-
RE: Stanley Cup 2008
I'll be sad to see this end, either way.
It's just been epic. Gary Bettman is doing cartwheels right now.
Also, a Pittsburgh win would lead to them revealing their new nickname for Game 6: THE PITTSBURGH FLEURRIES. And me and my friends each pitching in a kidney to try to get tickets. Try being the key word.
-
RE: Stanley Cup 2008
This is the Stanley Cup Finals.
Stopping isn't an option. Fantastic, isn't it?
-
RE: Stanley Cup 2008
Epic Overtime is fucking EPIC.
Regardless of who wins this, Hockey might have just been saved. But, still, LET'S GO PENS!
-
RE: Stanley Cup 2008
Let's go Pens!
But. As said before, it's Detroit. Hopefully, the youth and speed of Pittsburgh will overcome Detroit's experience. Even though that never happens.
Also. Sidney Crosby, being the next Hockey Jesus doesn't excuse you from having that god awful mustache.
-
RE: NBA Playoffs 2008 Thread
'Kay. Time to put up, Boston. Win a road game, for Christ's sake. You have the best record in the league.
The worst part is, the can continue this pattern, and still win the championship, because of home-court.
-
RE: NBA Playoffs 2008 Thread
Honestly, Boston. They're the Atlanta-fucking-Hawks. I'm pretty sure that it's completely apparent that whoevers comes out of the West will completely steamroll the East champ. I really thought Boston or Detroit had a chance to hang with the Lakers, Hornets, etc. But, what an awful showing thus far from the top two seeds.
I can only hope for a team of five Dwight Howards to somehow be genetically engineered as a functional unit to save the East.
-
RE: NBA Playoffs 2008 Thread
Hornets will beat the Mavs. They always choke in the playoffs.
How is it a choke if Dallas loses? They're the lower seed. A choke was what they did last year as the one seed against Golden State.
Also, what the hell was that fourth quarter, Detroit?
-
RE: NBA Playoffs 2008 Thread
As would I, but I think eventually the lack of playoff experience will catch up with them.
-
RE: NBA Playoffs 2008 Thread
There are three things certain in life. Death, Taxes, and Tracy McGrady losing in the first round of the playoffs.
Celtics beat the Lakers in the Finals.
-
RE: March Madness !
Tennessee, Kansas, Stanford, UCLA is my Final Four. UCLA beats the Vols for the title.
Also, Mayo vs Beasley is too amazing to be a coincidence, go Selection Committee!
AP Bracket Challenge, anyone?
EDIT: If anyone's interested, I made a Tournament Challenge group on ESPN.com. http://games.espn.go.com/tcmen/group?groupID=68496
