City was pathetic. They were good after the red card in fact lol. I have no idea why they were ultra defensive the first twenty minutes

I hate to say this but milan has no chance of passing.
Milan will shock you.
I'm not saying that Milan will qualify but they will give Atletico a run for their money.@xan:

Too much respect for the opponent maybe?
They did it against Bayern and now they did it again against Barca.
This is where UCL experience will come in handy. -

Because Barca are still the deadliest attacking team in the world.
-
Arsenal fan here, looking forward to the game tonight.
I hope our boys show up. -
That was … a weird game. Sadly, from a United perspective, that bags Toni Kroos a new contract. Or adds a few million to his asking price anyway.
So all four ties decided then? Milan might still hold hopes, but it is difficult for City and Arsenal to come back, and Leverkusen are as good as buried.
-
lol don't buy what the media says.
Kroos to United is never gonna happen.
United have more chance of securing Gundogan's service than Kroos.
Everyone in Munich is calm about Kroos' situation, but media (especially from England) blows it out of proportion. -
I know that. But it's good to dream. Dreams are all I have right now. That, and looking at Juan Mata.
God, I guess this is how being a Liverpool supporter feels like.
-
Wow, after 4 matches, 0 goals from the home teams. Too easy for bayern yesterday after Szcesny was sent out and great match in milan, Courtouis is really surpassing all expectations.
-
God, I guess this is how being a Liverpool supporter feels like.
Still nowhere as bad as being a Milan supporter with has-been players and second rate strikers as transfer targets. WHILE having a piss poor defence at that. Seriously, how the hell does Bonera still have a job. Atleast they signed Rami and De Sciglio is one for the future… hopefully.
Well, I'm fairly positive about the second leg, but with the impending failure to qualify for UCL 2014-2015, saying I'm really disappointed would not even begin to express this gutted feeling I have.
Edit: I can't talk about Bonera without remembering the phenomenal sensation that was Kaladze. Both have an aptitude for extraordinary embarrassment. What happened to the Baresis, the Nestas and the Maldinis. Heck, the reason I started supporting Milan nearly 15 years ago was because of their incredible defensive displays. /Rant over.

Courtouis' save from Poli's header was absolutely incredible.

At least MU have big bucks to spend this summer.
Just pray that the scout team doesn't mess up again like last summer lol. -

Milan really did get the better of the game last night and were unlucky to score. I wouldn't write them out of this tie by any means.
De Sciglio is going to be world class. Rami, Mexes and Abate are all very good.
The one real weak spot in the Milan defence is Abbiati. He's really not good enough to be first choice keeper.
To be fair, you ask what happened to players like Maldini…players like him come along once in a generation. You're basically asking why Milan haven't been able to keep up to the standard of having some of the greatest players of all time in their defence, it's pretty obvious.
I'm also a little surprised to see someone specifically attracted to a team because of their defence, rather than attack tbh.
-

Mexes is good yes, but he can hardly keep with up with faster players. He also makes bizarre decisions at times, which are very evident if you watch some of his Serie A games. Abate is also good and I've always had high hopes for him. He is definitely great running down the flank, but unfortunately this hinders his defensive ability. I can't remember the number of times he has failed to pick up the corresponding player on crosses and counter attacks. Meaning, his lack of positional awareness, could potentially outweigh his numerous positives.

Not exactly. I'm just appalled at how a team goes from having some of the best defenders of the generation to a team that fields Boneras and Kaladzes. I would be lying if I said I didn't mind the Thiago Silva trade but I can definitely appreciate the financial reasons behind it, and as such, have made my peace with it. I just don't understand why a younger CB hasn't been brought in to possibly become a future starter. The only young CB Milan currently has on it's roster who's worth anything is Vergara. So yeah. I'm not asking for another Maldini per se. I just wish they would give the defensive positions some love. Zapata was an excellent prospect… WHEN Milan first showed interest in him nearly 4 years ago! Now he's above-average at best. Had they brought him in back then and groomed him, we may well be seeing much better performances from him.
I really hate this 'ifs and buts' tangent I seem to be going on, but I can't help it. I love this club way too much and can't bear seeing it being driven into the ground. Honestly, I don't know why I put myself through this. The club has almost lost its identity entirely, but hey; once a fan, always a fan I guess.
I'm also a little surprised to see someone specifically attracted to a team because of their defence, rather than attack tbh.
Yeah I've always admired the defensive side of the game more than most. I find an exquisite slide tackle inside the D that cleanly takes the ball away just as exciting as a long range screamer. It's also probably because I love playing defence. Although I was played as a winger on my school team since my coach deemed me too short to play defence and deal with long balls.
-
Fucking hell. We put out our best team today (I'd probably replace Fellaini with Fletcher and Ferdinand with Evans) and still struggled to break down Crystal Palace. Lucky to get a win, to be honest.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm scared of Olympiacos.
-
Erm I thought of not coming to this thread till Barca's next win but couldn't resist. Thankfully, people here are less anti-Barca as compared to other forums. Phew!

Olympiacos at their home is quite a formidable team no matter who the opponent is. Judging MU's condition, a draw away would be a boon but then again MU is playing badly at home too unfortunately.
-
Euro 2016 qualification draw is done.
Spain have a piss-easy group. England have an easy draw too. Portugal and Denmark must be sick of each other by now. I love Group G.
But yeah, with the tournament expanding to 24 teams, the usual suspects should qualify with some ease.
-
I'm actually fairly happy with Scotland's draw.
Few teams can compete with the Germans and we're not one of them, but we'll give Poland and Ireland a good game.
Then still fail to qualify anyway lol
-
Wales have an ok draw still don't think we will qualify.

You should be united are so poor at the moment, can't wait for Liverpool to play you we smash ya.

With that hilarious defence, you're one to talk. Mind you, you guys will win, and probably by a few goals.
-
41 goals scored between Suarez and Sturridge and yet they are still 4th in the league. Meh chill out liverpool fans.

Only 4 points of the top with both Chelsea and City to come to afield why wouldn't we be excited.
-
Because City can outscore you? And Chelsea can defend much better than you do?
Two reasons off the top of my head, mate.
-
OMG we'll so beat united, their doing so badly!
…except they beat you earlier this season, with this exact same kind of reaction.
With guys like Sakho and Toure defending like schoolboys, and Man U still having RVP, Rooney and Mata, anything can happen in that fixture.
-
This is just depressing. Someone shoot me.
I've supported Moyes throughout all these turbulent times. But Joel Campbell's goal is the straw that broke this camel's back. I don't care if we come back and win this tie. Moyes should be sacked. If not now, then in the summer at the latest.
-
The way United are going down, they'll soon discover crude oil.
-
They're not going to sack Moyes though.
The amount of money they'd have to pay out since he's on a 6 year deal would be huge. Even at that, who would they get in that's better at this point?
They'll give him at least another year to really mould a team of his own, and not the broken team that pretty much only Ferguson was capable of making play like champions.
Mata was a great signing, and his other apparent targets like Kroos and Herrera are a move in the right direction. We'll see how it pans out.

What you n about Sakho been great for us, united are truly awful at the moment can wait to see how Rio dose against Suarez and Sturridge if there on form it could get really ugly for man u. We were really unlucky not to get anything for the man city and Chelsea games, we had a perfectly good goal disallowed and were denied a blatant last-minute penalty to equalise against city. And Chelsea match winner Eto'o should have been sent off after two minutes we can defiantly beat them both at home.

Sahko is an absolute bomb scare.
This is exactly what was said earlier in the season…and Man United beat you guys.
I'm not saying it's a certainty to happen again, but it's definitely not impossible.
With RVP, Rooney and Mata, Man United could still hurt you, given the chance.
You guys might take points from City and Chelsea, maybe...but I highly doubt you'll win the league even if you do lol.

Na he's been brilliant for us when he's back we look a lot better in defence. We've already beat man u this season or are you talking about when they beast us in the cup? Nothing's impossible in football but it's a good time to play man U, the players just don't want to play for the manger. They have the players to hurt us no doubt about that unfortunately for them even if they score 3 past us we have the ability to go ad score 4 we have that mentality "we score more than you". Can that mentality take us to the finishing line who knows but am excited to find out.

Everytime I've seen Sakho in a Liverpool shirt he seems to be making an arse of it, but I'll assume you've seen more of him within these parameters and take your word for it.
I don't think it's so much they don't want to play for the manager, as much as they're all having a real confidence crisis at the moment, even the stars, since they've gone from being pulled up to a much higher level of performance by Ferguson, to playing in mediocre fashion and getting found out.
I'd actually prefer Liverpool to win the league, of the realistic challengers. They play football that's good to watch, Suarez especially, and as a Celtic fan there's always going to be a connection.
I just don't think the title winning mentality yet, as opposed to Mourinho who's made a career of it and Pellegrini who has a team of previous title winners under his belt.
The next 2 to 3 years are going to very, very exciting for Liverpool though, no matter what way you slice it.
-
This is the reason I hate David Moyes. Seriously, this Olympiacos match has done it for me.
I really really hope someone with any brains in the United hierarchy sees this and banishes that tactical troglodyte to his cave. Get AVB in, he won't be as bad as this clown.
Or get Klopp.
-
It seems like Moyes doesn't have any idea how to use a creative player like Kagawa lol.
Did he even have one in Everton?
Thiago must be relieved he chose Bayern because he could have been wasted by Moyes. -
@Massimo:

Judging by his use of Mata so far, no he does not.
@Massimo:Did he even have one in Everton?
The closest match is someone like Leon Osman.

weeps
To think they chose this clown over Mourinho. Fucking idiots, the lot of them.

To be fair, I don't think Mourinho would ever have gone to Man U, but that's just cause of his association with Chelsea and what not.
I suppose you never know with Mourinho.
I'm really hoping that Kroos doesn't sign and fall into the Davie Moyes creative player category.
His misuse of Kagawa has been abominable.

Winning at Old Trafford…I was waiting for this since 5 years. Feeling is priceless!
-
Almost a penalty hat trick! That would have been hilarious…
But seriously, giving away THREE penalties at home AND a red card too! I actually did not see the game so I couldn't comment on whether the penalties were valid or not but still I don't see people complaining about them much anyways
-

What a result, the scary thing is I don't think we were that good, if we played to our best we could have won 4 or 5 nil roll on Cardiff.
-

Yep we were not. Our passing was never hundred percent. I saw the ball being lost so ample number of times, yet we still dominated.

First 2 penalties were correct. 3rd was a blatant dive from Sturridge, but in the next min, Carrick fouled him which was a penalty but wasn't given.
-
Man, you'd think Man U would be able to pick themselves up and at least give 110% at home against one of their biggest rivals.
This result has basically even further underlined the problems with their entire season.
-
LOL we are fucking mental, 6 goals scored and 3 conceded, I.ve heard of counter attacking football but we are playing heart attacking football long may it continue.
-
Arsenal… ouch that's really gotta hurt
-
Classico was so entertaining…untill Ronaldo's penalty. After that, it was shambolic.
-
Clasico had its typical moments this time around. Madrid played well first half and Benzema should have scored at least 2 more goals. And of course, a typical Ramos red card happened and things started getting ugly.
Ronalo, Bale and Neymar were pathetic the entire game. Di Maria was amazing first half but then Barca's midfield + Messi emerged as winners at the end. Good game!
-
Benzema's thigh control and volley for his second goal was insane man, he should have scored at least 4 with the chances he had though.
Barca were definitely the deserved victors though.
What do you guys think of the CL quarter final draw?
I cannot wait to see what Bayern do to Man U.
-
I cannot wait to see what Bayern do to Man U.
They'll put ten past us. At least. And hopefully then they'll fire the clown in charge.
Also, I'm eating some humble pie re: Liverpool. I've waited and waited and waited for their implosion to arrive and it hasn't. If they manage to get half-decent results against Chelsea and City (which is an ask, given their defence), they can win this thing. So I'll put up my hands and (very very grudgingly) admit I was wrong.
Benzema has been a wasteful finisher for ages. I feel Real sold the wrong striker this summer.
-

To be fair, Bayern are capable of doing that to any team, but yeah Man U do seem ripe for an absolute doing tbh.
I still can't see Liverpool winning it personally. They've done fantastically well this season but City and Chelsea both have teams full of trophy winners who know how to get it done.
Yep. Napoli are my second team after Celtic and Real made a grevious error in judgment to sell Gonzalo.
Unfortunately we're nowhere near strong enough in the centre of the pitch. Behrami and Dzemali are both average at best and Inler commits foul after foul while taking wild shots from 40+ yards far too often. Jorginho is going to be some player though.
-
To be fair, Bayern are capable of doing that to any team
Actually that's the sad part about progressing and drawing Bayern. The faults of this team and its atrocious manager would be hidden by the superbness of that team and their manager. I can already see Moyes' press conference after we get tonked for six or seven at the Allianz Arena: "This is the team that beat Barca 7-0 last year. My team gave a fight. Blah blah next season. Blah blah signings."
-
I just have a strange feeling that MU will not fire Moyes anytime soon no matter what the result is
-

Meh, I know Moyes has seemed out of his depth but you're going to have to put up with him for at least another season, most likely.
Signing him on a long term contract like that makes sacking him within 2 years just a complete loss.
Let him put his own real stamp on the team in the summer and see how he does.
The kind of signings he's been looking at, people like Herrera, Kroos and Garay would make a huge, huge difference.
If he just keeps trying to sign his old Everton players (except for maybe Coleman) then he's going to have another embarrassing season.
