It's like they got the memo about being cancelled the second before Beel started eating those croquettes.

RE: A topic on "Game Reviewing"
The problem with Yahtzee is that it's hard to tell whether or not his gripes are overblown. I like some his ideologies on the topic of games and he is funny. I especially like the school of thought that but I would never use his reviews to gauge a game's quality.
Reviews have their place. A game review on it's own isn't really useful, but when I can find common themes, gripes and comments across multiple reviews, I get a better idea of if I like the game or not.

Chimera Phase
New to this section of the forum. Let me know if my formatting is wrong or anything.
Anyway, this is a story I've been working on for a while. I actually wrote a full rough draft a year and a half ago, but never got much feedback on it. Looking to get a critique.
Enjoy
Chimera Phase
Prologue! A very large college campus sat at the foot of a very large hill. It resided in a city that was very much like Los Angeles, even in name, but not quite. The city was located in a country that was nearly identical to the United States, but missed out on a few key details that made it just different enough. If we were to simplify things, we could say that this country was located on the planet Earth. In this situation, the relationship between simplicity and accuracy is shaky at best.
! However, there are a small number of things about this college that can be said with precision:
! 1. It occupied exactly four hundred acres.
2. One percent of its students thought highly of themselves.
3. Ninety-five percent of its students thought too highly of themselves.
4. The remaining four percent were not liberal arts majors.
5. Very few people noticed when one of its students spent three years there changing the world.
! Of course, the relationship between the “changing the world” and “accomplishing nothing” is shaky at best. Or at worst. No one in either Los Angeles could seem to agree.Chapter 1
! Kasper was not smarter than most people. This worked out fine because most people were not smarter than him either. At some point in the existence of human beings, the universe decided the scale of human intelligence would follow a standard bell curve. It had also decided that in order for this plan to work, a single human being would have to be placed at the exact peak, lest the distinction between above average and below average become blurred. Civilizations rise and fall on a human being’s ability to determine whether they are superior to another. Unfortunately, people ended up coming to the wrong conclusion ninety-five percent of the time anyway, making the one way the world revolved around Kasper inconsequential.
! This story is how the world came close to revolving around Kasper again, but missed and settled on orbiting around a philosophy major who coerced the event through sheer will. We will call this lover of Aristotle and Kant “Ted.” Kasper’s story is still much more interesting than Ted’s, thanks to the attractive brunette who was staring at Kasper from across his desk.
! She was just sitting, staring. Kasper tried to ignore her. It became clear to both them within seconds that he was failing. He could have sworn that she was timing her blinks so that whenever Kasper looked up from his data entry, her brown eyes would bug out, never shifting their gaze. After she tired of that trick, she got into the habit of squeaking her chair. Her stoic demeanor aside, Kasper was sure she was amusing herself.
! Kasper was comforted that the girl was at least keeping her mouth shut. When she did open her mouth it was…well, Kasper had not decided exactly how to describe it. Frightening was not the right word. Unsettling was closer, but somehow inadequate. At best, he could describe it as the feeling one gets when they are comfortable and safe, but has a sudden urge to dwell on their own mortality. When Kasper told the girl this years later, she argued that this was an idiotic reaction. Of course she meant to be frightening.
! When she walked into the student employment office a few minutes earlier, she said two things: “We’re going to melt your skin off today” and “I’m interested in your office job.” She quietly sat down afterwards. Had these two sentences been related, Kasper could have convinced himself that the rest of his day would be normal. However, being of average intelligence, he knew he was about to be inconvenienced.
! A blonde girl approached Kasper’s desk from the back of the office. She took note that the appearances the two staring partners were surprisingly similar. They had the same soft-looking face with matching eye and hair color. Her years working in customer service had taught her a thing or two about assessing minor features of other people. It also made her skilled at ignoring others, which she proceeded to do with both her co-worker and their current customer.
! Kasper watched as June settled into a nearby desk, disregarding the situation. She shuffled random papers around to confirm that she had little interest in helping Kasper with his situation.
! Several months ago, June had told Kasper that the majority of customers in any line of work were entitled scum. Ordinary scum at least knew their place. Kasper preferred to think of anyone in the office who gave him grief as misguided or stressed. Of course, there was no reason to think highly of them, but it was worth attempting to remain civil. On a good day, he could even be helpful.
! Kasper leaned over.
! “June,” he whispered.
! “If she isn’t asking for anything, we don’t need to do anything,” June replied. She showed increased interest in shuffling her current stack of papers two inches to the left.
! June had a point, but Kasper had little appreciation for her aloofness. Just as he readjusted himself in his seat, she froze. The door opened near the brunette girl. June nearly leapt to her feet and walked quickly to the back of the office. She could tell when a bad customer was approaching. Kasper wondered just how long she had been working customer service jobs and how many other co-workers she had made of habit of throwing to the sharks.
! A stocky guy sidled up to the front desk, blocking Kasper’s view of the brunette. Kasper looked up at his stubble and dark, slick-backed hair.
! “Gel,” Kasper muttered. He was about to stand up when his stocky customer slapped a small slip of paper on the desk’s surface. It was a check. The design was the same as the one distributed to all work-study students at the DAW University. This was either going to be very simple or very painful.
! Kasper forced a smile.
! “Welcome to the Student Employment Center. How can I help you?”
! “Fix it,” the customer said, grinning.
! Kasper looked down at the check. It was made out to “Brendan Hart” for the amount of $474.88. He inferred, based on the amount paid and hours worked, that Brendan was likely a graduate student. Brendan’s cockiness all but confirmed it.
! “Fix what?” Kasper asked. He tried his hardest not let any ire slip into his voice.
! Brendan took a deep breath in preparation for the laborious task of conducting communication. June’s instinct was infallible.
! “They took too much out in taxes. I should be getting way more than this.”
! Kasper relaxed. He grabbed the check and folded it out. The tax information was still attached. Resolving this was going to be painfully simple.
! “Are you a part-time student?” Kasper asked.
! “Yep.”
! “Then this is normal. If you only go to school part-time, you pay more in taxes. Your government at work.” Kasper started to hand the check back.
! “But it’s wrong!” Brendan said.
! Ah, so this was going to be just simply painful.
! Kasper was not sure what to do to get rid of Brendan. He was terrible at convincing other students he was right about these things. More accurately, he was terrible at convincing them they were wrong. Still, he had to try. He gathered all his courage to respond. The effort, while brief, took so much concentration that he barely noticed that the brunette girl had walked up behind Brendan. She was now silently leaning her forehead on the small of his back.
! Brendan jumped a bit and turned around.
! “Oh hey, umm, sorry… I can…” Brendan said. Kasper had little to contribute to the situation. Someone in the office was about to cause trouble for him and that fact took up most of his focus.
! “I don’t feel so good,” the girl said. Her voice resonated against Brendan’s back. She grabbed his shirt at the shoulder. “Could you please move aside so I can use the phone?”
! At this point, it should be mentioned that this girl came to the office to complete a single task and to not deviate from such. She wanted to regard herself as a professional. But, she also hated rude people and wanted to make that clear to any and all offenders. As someone who was not an employee of the office, she had no reason not to pull any punches. This is why she tossed Brendan over her shoulder, slamming him into the row of chairs behind them.
! Kasper was still occupied deciding which one of them would cause the most grief. He was starting to get a better idea.
! Brendan was dazed, but rushed to his feet. On reflex, he clenched his fist. At that moment he started to note how attractive the girl looked. This was giving him mixed signals. On the one hand, the girl had tossed him across the office, unprovoked. She clearly made up the story about feeling ill. A taunting smile was even creeping across her lips.
! On the other hand, she was hot.
! Brendan walked over to the girl. He started to put his arm around her shoulders and smiled.
! “Sorry, I was off-balanced when you put your weight on me. I didn’t mean to fall like that.”
! The girl smacked his arm away.
! “Don’t touch me. I told you; I’m sick.”
! Kasper snapped out of his focus and was about to intervene when he heard a grinding sound. It was followed a wet clapping sound, almost like rain, but louder and duller. He was still prepared to step in until he noticed that sounds were coming from the girl.
! Both Kasper and Brendan both stepped back. Neither could bring themselves to run from what they saw. The girl’s skin was peeling off. It fell to the floor in moist thuds. At the same time, she grew taller, nearly matching Brendan’s height. The grinding sound grew louder before petering out.
! When all the noise faded, the girl looked completely different. She was taller and slightly more bulky. Her faced had narrowed, not that it mattered too much since every other facial featured had changed as well. Kasper tried to look for some familiarity in the eyes, but they were mostly obscured by long, black bangs.
! The girl paid Kasper little attention as he fell into his seat. She whirled around and faced Brendan.
! “See?” she asked.
! Brendan tripped twice. Once on his own feet and again on the chairs he had toppled earlier. He was out the door before he could start brainstorming excuses for his clumsiness.
! The girl shrugged and turned to Kasper.
! “Hi!” Kasper yelled, not knowing what else to say.
! “Hey Kasper, look at the ceiling,” the girl said.
! Kasper almost made himself dizzy as he brought his eyes to the ceiling. He lowered them back to the girl just as quickly. His heart pounded in his chest as he looked in the girl’s eyes. She was, in every way, back to her original self.
! “Hi, I’m Maya,” she said. “I’m your cousin.” She held out her hand. Kasper’s hand shot out, trying to remember what step came next. Maya shook it anyway.
! “I told you there was going to be some skin melting today,” Maya said. She grimaced and released Kasper’s hand. She rushed back to the mess of chairs and dug through it until she produced a small notebook. She flipped to one of the first pages and scanned it. She hummed a small tune before shutting the book and running up to Kasper again.
! “So apparently, the first thing you’re supposed to know is that you’re a Chimera. Apparently.”
! Not many things happened at Kasper’s job that were worse than getting yelled at by a smug graduate student. Kasper suspected that Maya was going to take a good run at it.Chapter 2

RE: Beelzebub
It's weird because they had several filler episodes prior to the start of this arc and the opening for the past few months is based on the Akumano Academy arc. Maybe they didn't know they were getting cancelled until they finished producing all those filler episodes.
Oh well, it was a good run and I discovered the manga version through this anime.

RE: South Park
Clyde's mom had a speaking role in last seasons' Crackbaby episode where she sounded much less manly. This last episode she sounded like Ms. Choksondik, who Trey voiced.
-
RE: General Let's Play Thread
If you ever watch Extra Credits, they have an interesting take on how Other M's story got that way.
Has anyone mentioned Pokecapn yet? His crew's Sonic 2006 LP is epic. One of the best things about it is that they play almost in one sitting, so they kind of go mad towards the end. Their other LPs are great too.
-
RE: South Park
Yeah, I thought that too when I heard her voice. Maybe they were under a deadline and they just used Trey's voice (I think that was his) instead of bringing one of the female voice actresses in? But then that doesn't make sense since there were plenty of female voices in the episode.
My only other guess is that her ridiculous voice was intended to make her death more lighthearted. You know, aside from the fact she died with her ass stuck in a toilet.
-
RE: The PlayStation Thread
Wow, everyone here was really helpful and replied quickly. Thanks.
Thinking about it now, I'll probably get a new one for $250 (that's Amazon's price anyway) for the sake of knowing it will last a while. I don't make much money so even if a new system comes out soon, I won't be able to afford it.
Yeah, this is all part of a plan to upgrade to an hd setup. I wouldn't bother if I was intending to use a regular TV.
-
RE: The PlayStation Thread
So, I'm almost a full generation behind when it comes to console gaming. I've been thinking of picking up a PS3. Is there any significant disadvantage to getting one used, like from Gamestop?

RE: Katekyo Hitman REBORN! Discussion
Mukuro tends to do whatever the plot requires at the moment, regardless of past actions.
-
RE: Katekyo Hitman REBORN! Discussion
I really hope Skull maintains his durability in his baby form because I've come to like him in this arc. I'm betting he's not dead. It's hard to even tell what kind of attack Skull got hit with and anything can be fudged with Shonen logic.
But wow, what a poor showing by Team Skull. Their only purpose this arc was to get a full set of representative watches stolen from them. And with Byakuran getting hammered… Kind of funny that the most recent Big Bads are taking the worst beating.
-
RE: South Park
It wasn't debunked, but there really isn't any proof.
Well, they certainly have something done for the first episode now, since it airs this Wednesday. And unless all those clips are from the same episode, they have a bit done for other episodes too.
Just to clarify, with the whole doing an episode in six days, that's not 100% true. More like 95% true. Sometimes during a run they try to have a "bank" episode, something that already has some work done on it. That way, if they need some sort of reprieve or day off in the middle of those seven weeks, they can take it, knowing that there's an episode to air that week that they've at least started on. Each episode has a full week of work put into it, but they don't always confine their week to working on just one episode. Not strictly speaking anyway. Obviously each week has a main episode to be worked, possibly with bits of other episodes on the side.
-
RE: South Park
And now to totally break the pattern of commercials Robby was talking about, here's a clip:
!
I feel like season 6 was the last time they had promos with a variety of clips before the season (though these could all be from the same episode).
-
RE: South Park
Sometimes I find it odd when I hear people have dropped South Park or say it's not as fresh as it used to be since the show is much better than when it was starting out. I figure if there was a time to drop the series it would have been season 2. Makes sense since a lot of people thought it was going to die off around that time, including the creators.
I can see where you're coming from though. Quite a few episodes in the past five seasons come off as really stupid and milk one joke for the half-hour. When I rewatch episodes, I pretty much just cherry pick the best ones, but you can say that about almost any series.
I went through a period where I was "meh" about South Park too. Glad I've since picked it up again. This last season may have been my favorite since season 6 and that's not to say there haven't been some really good seasons in between.
-
RE: South Park
Not sure how reliable IMDB is, but I doubt they have a brony episode in the works. I'll admit, it's possible they have a handful of episode ideas already. Even though they get the show done in a week, they still develop bits of other episodes in that time, so one of those ideas could have been leaked. Still, I haven't found a reliable source of where these rumors could have come from. The fact there were rumors last fall too make me think that it's fake.
And as Robby mentioned, they usually don't announce the episode titles until the Monday before. The only time I can remember the subject of an episode being leaked was when a news story on South Park showed sketches of Wikileaks. Admittedly, that was a recent episode, but this brony idea doesn't have any evidence like that to back up the rumors.

RE: Chapters ALPHA: "Super Discussion"
How does the Aplha purchase work? Like, do you get an actual file that is permanently yours? or is it like, on a cloud and you have to be online to use it?
Because if it's permanently mine after I buy it, and since Stephen is now the translator, I might start buying it and then taking it into photoshop and correcting the BS translation errors Stephen is unfortunately forced to stick with for consistency (Zolo, etc) and keep that as my own personal digital archive (still buy the Tankos for a physical copy tho)
It's cloud. Also, your access to it expires after a year. It fits my needs well, but the service could be better.

RE: Channel Awesome, AVGN, and other web review shows
The cat who played Milo had the ability to change eye color, fur color and jump off cliffs without being harmed.
Right…?

RE: Katekyo Hitman REBORN! Discussion
Is it really? I just thought he could take a beating since he's a stuntman.
He was most known for cheating death/being nearly invulnerable, which is why he was chosen as an arcobaleno in the first place. He might have some secondary offensive skills, like that bulk up move we haven't seen in forever, but it wouldn't be the main reason he's part of the group.
Reborn and Colonello have abilities related to their professions too; they just happen to be related to fighting ability.
-
RE: Katekyo Hitman REBORN! Discussion
@Fire Fist:
In the Anime he used a move that shot lightning from his body and can hit multiple opponents, although we later found out it was just a robot doing it, although the real Verde probably has something lightning related, considering he's the Lightning Arcobaleno.
I'm hoping it's something fairly creative, kind of like how Skull's ability is focused on defense. I'll be happy if it has something to do with his intellect.
-
RE: Katekyo Hitman REBORN! Discussion
I'll have to go back and see if they explicitly said that.
EDIT: You're probably right. One translation says "you're disqualified from being a representative" though considering how vague some of the rules are that could mean you're only disqualified from being that particular arcobaleno's representative. I'm just really surprised Hibari is out so soon and it's known that Reborn wants to fill up those extra spaces on his team.
-
RE: Katekyo Hitman REBORN! Discussion
Yeah, didn't like Hibari breaking his watch, mostly because it sucks for Fon. But Fon's last expression seemed like he already made peace with it. I am genuinely surprised that it's Fon and Uni out this round. My prediction was Skull and Mammon.
It was kind of sweet that the Varia all tackled Xanxus because they cared about Mammon.
My completely unfounded predictions next round:
Team Skull out, defeated by the 8th arcobaleno team and Team Colonello (free for all).
Team Verde out, defeated by Team Reborn and Team Mammon (free for all)Hibari will join Team Reborn just so he can keep fighting.
We'll see Verde's uncursed form (have no guesses about what he can do). -
RE: Katekyo Hitman REBORN! Discussion
@Fire Fist:
Dino is sharing the boss watch with Tsuna. I think his interference may disqualify Team Reborn, unfortunately, as he's not the active competitor this round.
Dino has a basic battler watch. I think you're confusing it with a few chapters ago when they said Dino was going to have a boss watch, but Reborn decided on Tsuna instead.

RE: VIZ Media Takes Down Mangastream
Exactly my thoughts, Urouge and I'm from outside the US. There was whining about Onemanga when it closed down, crap about death of scanlations, but we got a new scanlator almost right away. Mangastream going away isn't as big of a deal everyone is making it out to be. Geez.
I think most people in the thread have realized that by now. It's more the fact that VIZ took action against a scanlation group at all that has kind of set this off. If I remember correctly, onemanga actually took down their stuff voluntarily.
YouTube isn't profitable. Google it, I bring that example up every time an online manga discussion happens because it's as mainstream a site as possible and Google still hasn't figured out how to make money off of it.
That isn't to say I disagree with you. I've been saying for years that manga serves as little more that commercials for merchandise. taboo and Robby have said people treat manga like webcomics…and how do most webcomics make money? 4Kids was founded on merchandise sales! The main hurdle is merchandise isn't easily accessed in R1 and when it is obtainable, it is extremely expensive. If someone found a way to import high volume Japanese products, cheaply, we might see something happen.
The downside is only really big, popular series get tons of associated merchandise. This works for One Piece, but not obscure stuff, so even if merchandise sales were good enough to pay for additional manga to be scanslated, those manga would have no way of generating profit by themselves.
I like your explanation much better than a lot of people in this thread who assume that free digital content automatically equals profit.
At this point, I'm just grateful that media has gone from being mildly affordable (to varying degrees) to really cheap. $26/year for manga is not expensive at all, and two weeks behind is still reasonable.
Other sites like Netflix, Hulu and Crunchyroll offer their services for very cheap prices as well. Maybe their prices just look better because I'm comparing it to 15 years ago when getting huge libraries of content for less than $10 a month would have been unheard of. If I knew I could access hours and hours of Nicklelodeon cartoons when I was a kid, I would have loved that.
We should always be demanding better service, at the best price, but I don't understand everyone acting like charging for digital content is a stupid or unethical business decision. Free to pay, view, etc. is still a risk for large companies. People who distribute content illegally can afford to do so because the risk is so low. Maybe it costs them server space, but that's minor compared to what large companies put on the line.
EDIT FOR BELOW: Well, most people should have realized it by now.
-
RE: The Viz Media Thread
I'd have more sympathy for OP scanlation readers if they'd actually start posting in the correct thread:
Y](http://apforums.net/showthread.php?t=34817)eah, I know all this is technically on topic here, but still… Show some judgment people. We're actually trying to discuss the chapters in this thread.

RE: Valentine's Day
Anyone else looking forward to buying really cheap Valentine themed candy and treats on the 15th?
-
RE: VIZ Media Takes Down Mangastream
However, aside from being legally within the boundaries of doing so, I don't understand why they took target toward series like REBORN! and Hunter x Hunter.
Probably because they don't want to just selectively enforce their copyright. If they did, it would basically be telling everyone that it's ok to scanlate anything they aren't releasing close to the Japanese schedule. Even if they were fine with it, they wouldn't want to say or imply it.
-
RE: VIZ Media Takes Down Mangastream
Man, as much as I want to convince people to subscribe to SJA…
http://www.vizmanga.com/reader/662 (page 42).
Yep, they still use Zolo.
-
RE: VIZ Media Takes Down Mangastream
Honestly, I'm willing to put up with the three week delay. I just don't read threads concerning chapters yet to be released on SJA.
It does suck, however, that SJA only has 4 series I read. And yeah, those who can't subscribe to SJA are going to be more inconvenienced.
Would've have been nice if MS had been a bit more graceful in their announcement.

RE: Katekyo Hitman REBORN! Discussion
I can't see Hibari losing unless he does something noble.
Wait… who beat Genkishi (that illusionist in the future) again? Was it Tsuna or Hibari? If it was Hibari, Mammon really has his work cut out for him.
It was Tsuna, then later Yamamoto. Hibari (both past and future) fought him, but both of their battles never fully concluded.
I'm really excited to see if Mammon has any other techniques, but my money's on Team Fon.

RE: Yugioh Abridged
She existed for the first series, apparently. Before the games were purely Duel Monsters.

RE: The Viz Media Thread
Bleach and Rise of the Yokai Clan had color title pages this week if that's what you mean (chp. 477 and 186 respectively). I didn't see anything in color last issue. I've yet to see panels that are in color.
Also Robby, vizmanga.com has Shonen Jump Alpha issue 0, which is free to read. It has chapters from the week One Piece 647 came out (not sure the exact date in Japan). That should give you a better idea than the issue that has all the chapter 1's.

RE: What are you Playing?
Playing Sonic Generations. Main story was really short, but I'm trying to 100% it now. I keep getting sidetracked though since I just like playing through the standard levels with no real objective over and over again.
I'm also trying to play Skyrim, but I've almost given up on it. It just seems very repetitive to me. Any suggestions? I traveled to the College of Winterhold, but it's starting to look like the series of quests will just be more dungeon crawling and fetching items.
-
RE: The Viz Media Thread
I rarely laugh at One Piece, but the scene where Luffy finds out about the new log pose made me laugh. Good chapter.
As for the others, Bakuman was good, Naruto was meh. I plan to catch up to Toriko so I can start reading that in Alpha.
On a side note, is Rise of the Yokai Clan any good? I might try to catch up with that series so that I can track with 5 out of 6 of the Shonen Alpha manga.

RE: General Sonic the Hedgehog Thread (Now With Movie 3 & Knuckles)
I got stuck in walls three times my first week with Modern Sonic.
It was painful to listen to that review, but I do find Yahtzee funny. Most of his criticisms were valid, but I disagree with his implication that it prevents the game from being fun or good. There are certain flaws in video games that tick people off more than others. The flaws in Sonic just happen to be the ones that he can't stand.
The only part of his review (and following Extra Punctuation article) that I found to be crap was him implying that most people dislike Generations and the game has no audience.
Full disclosure: I liked Sonic Heroes, so my opinion on all matters related to Sonic games are suspect.
-
RE: General Sonic the Hedgehog Thread (Now With Movie 3 & Knuckles)
I recently got Generations. Coincidentally, it was the day before Yahtzee did his review. I love the game and, despite the short story mode, I've been getting a lot of playtime out of it.
That said, there are a lot of parts of it that are extremely sloppy. This is mostly due to modern sonic. I've gotten stuck in objects way too often. For some reason, I still like playing with modern Sonic more, but they really should have gotten the 3D controls right by now.
-
RE: Beelzebub
I've always wondered…what about the anime is so bad? I watch it and read the manga and I don't see anything glaring that makes the anime so much worse. The only thing I can think of is that sometimes they add some extra scenes that kind of screw up continuity, like at the end of the last arc where the side characters actually fought some of the demons.
Not too surprised it's ending. It's only one arc behind the manga and the arcs aren't really that long. Pretty amazed the anime has only been out for a year and yet has five separate openings.

RE: The Simpsons Arcade Game is coming to PSN and X-Box
Yay! No more driving two hours to the only Simpsons arcade machine I know still exists (not that I make the drive purely for that purpose).
The game honestly doesn't hold up too well, but it will be great to finally play this on a console without wasting so many quarters. Yeah, I never got good at it.

RE: The Viz Media Thread
@Gourmet:
Okay, it says it's up, but it's trying to make me pay for it even thoughI have a subscription. Anyone else having this problem?
It looks like everyone is having that problem if you look at the comments on the page. According to their twitter, Viz is aware of the problem and trying to fix it.

RE: Internet on Strike-stop SOPA
I think he's saying that only people in North America can subscribe to Shonen Jump Alpha.
No, I got that. I know there are people who can't subscribe or watch Funi's sub of One Piece. Admittedly, I probably should of qualified my statement, but I don't want to be called out for something I didn't say in the first place.
I still believe there are many North American readers who are fully able to subscribe, but won't because they have a free alternative. And I'm not referring exclusively to AP forum readers who can subscribe. If anything, I feel members of this forum would be more likely to support a legal alternative, if they can.
-
RE: Internet on Strike-stop SOPA
Oh, look, another one who thinks that most of arlong park is in north america.
I didn't mention Arlong Park.
-
RE: Internet on Strike-stop SOPA
@Silent:
Those people are always going to find some reason to not support the official product, ever.
I'm willing to bet there are a lot of One Piece readers who won't subscribe to Shonen Jump Alpha because they have easy access to scanlations.

RE: Internet on Strike-stop SOPA
I'm pretty embarrassed how in the last SOPA topic I pretty much proclaimed my support for the bill before reading it or reading up on various opinions and facts. Part of me just believed that the only reason people were against was because they were so used to being able to easily pirate media. Since then, yeah, I agree it's too vague.
Still, this is literally the only place I've seen that's recognized that there is a lot of fear mongering being thrown around. No giant black bar across my page. No claims that this website will disappear once SOPA and PIPA pass. It makes me take this protest much more seriously.

RE: Channel Awesome, AVGN, and other web review shows
The final reviews for Disneycember are up on Doug's blip channel:
http://blip.tv/nostalgiacritic
This series of reviews may have conflicted with my own opinion more than any of Doug's other reviews (in or out of character), but to be fair that's bound to happen when you review a bunch of them, all of them being Disney films no less. Plus, it was really interesting to see exactly where his values lie when it comes to films and animation. His logic was pretty consistent.
One of the things Doug admits is that opinions are just opinions. Keeping that in mind, I really enjoyed Disneycember.

RE: General Sonic the Hedgehog Thread (Now With Movie 3 & Knuckles)
@RobbyBevard:
Its a game a little bit more about exploring and taking your time (tho it makes the 10 minute time limit a bit cruel) but you really aren't supposed to master it the first time through. You can just casually play the game and get past the final boss in about an hour the first time you play the game. But if you want to explore and play around in the FOUR variations of every single stage? That's going to take some time and replay. But its optional. You don't HAVE to do it.
I know I don't have to do it. I'm just pointing out I had more fun doing the optional goals in Sonic 3 & Knuckles than this one. Or I should say the process so far was more fun since I've yet to get all the timestones and make the good futures in Sonic CD.
The one thing Sonic 3 and Knuckles has over Sonic CD is that once you beat the game, you can go back and replay the levels in your file (in story mode, not time attack). I have Sonic CD for GC and the iPhone and I don't think you have that option, unless I missed something. Your file just lets you play Metallic Madness Act 3 over and over once you finish. So you're forced to make the good futures in order and in one go, which I think is too much of a restriction.
My opinion might change in the next couple of weeks as I give 100% completion a shot.

RE: General Sonic the Hedgehog Thread (Now With Movie 3 & Knuckles)
Does anyone else dislike Sonic CD's 100% requirements? I guess the timestones are fair, though I'm terrible at the bonus stages. However, the past and future aspect never seemed to work well with the gameplay. Trying to find a place to build up speed and then jumping around looking for the hidden machines… it just slowed things down. I know Sonic games aren't all about speed, but looking for the machines just isn't as much fun as some of the other 100% requirements from other Sonic games
At least with Sonic 3 & Knuckles, there were several Giant Rings you could use to collect Chaos Emeralds. You could speed through some levels if you felt like it as opposed to having to take time to search for one specific thing every single act.
It could be I'm just more rusty with Sonic CD compared to the other games. Still a great purchase that I've been replaying several times since buying it less than a week ago.

RE: Katekyo Hitman REBORN! Discussion
My bet is on Skull and Mammon to be eliminated.
Reborn - Obviously they won't be out (though what a twist that would be).
Colonello - I feel like they're setting up a rematch between Tsuna and his father in the future.
Fon - Similarly, I feel like Gokudera and Yamamoto will get a rematch with Hibari later on.
Uni - Byakuran and Uni seem to have some hidden role in this arc, so I don't think they'll be out this quickly.
Verde - They're being set up to dominate for a while.Skull and Mammon are the only ones who don't have a real reason to stay in storywise, unless Xanxus really wants a rematch with Tsuna. There's a possibility that could happen in this next round. Mammon's probably the arcobaleno who would take defeat the hardest though.
However, this all assumes the next few chapters won't have any major twists.

RE: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (9th & Final Season Airing Now)
Not to bring up a completely different series, but I liked how this episode had a "The Coon" vibe until the end .

RE: One Piece Opening 15: "We go!" by Hiroshi Kitadani
It's always nice when you hear a fandubber who actually puts effort in their work.
90% of the fandubs on Youtube are just someone half-singing into the built-in computer mic and playing some music at low volume in the background.

RE: Internet : Stop Online Piracy Act
@RobbyBevard:
Its in place to protect the rights of creators. Artists and writers, who need to make a living off the material they produce. Not the musicians who have made millions of dollars of a platinum selling album… but the little guys who live from paycheck to paycheck . Ties into the whole "doesn't become public domain until after the creator's death" thing thats essential to artists making money.
This. I'm tired of people claiming some sort of high ground when they get copyrighted content for free, believing they're only screwing over millionaires. Or the even bigger BS argument that they're only downloading/streaming stuff they wouldn't have paid for anyway.
I'm as guilty as everyone else. I listen to music on YouTube, read scanlations, etc. but if this bill succeeds in protecting the rights of the creator, I'm all for it.
Oh yeah, and thank you americancensorship.org for not providing a clear, easy to find link to the actual wording of the bill. I'd much rather read opinions than actual info.
