That's probably why I'm looking forward to hearing Kizaru in English the most out of any character at the moment. He's such a bizarre, obnoxious bastard and I'm looking forward to seeing how they translate it.

RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
he does a lot of work in viz dubs and video games but here's a clip of him as Levi.http://bluealexander93.tumblr.com/video_file/79378977747/tumblr_n2bxh6hVQp1qgvkaw
Sounds fine to me. I could see him voicing Law once they get to that point. Though to be honest Law isn't one of those voices that I'm really curious to hear in English since all FUNimation really needs to do is select one of the many serious low-key male voices that they have at their disposal. It'll definitely be cool to hear all the Supernovas in general but I feel the same way about them as well. Save for maybe Apoo, if only because of how fucking weird he is.
-
RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
I haven't even heard the commentaries yet. That's why I was curious.

RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
What are some other notable voices that he's done in the past?

RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
I do kind of find it strange that Season 6 Voyage 1 isn't even shown on FUNi's scheduled release page. One obvious explanation would be that they're pushing back the release date, but I feel like we would've heard news about that by now. Especially considering that they're now showing releases that are going into June.
I don't want to seem like I'm impatient because in the end it's all going to be released eventually, but it's just a little weird to me.

RE: One Piece Chapter 741 - Usoland The Liar
This chapter was a gigantic "hell yeah" for me. So many Usopp doubters seemed to surface after last week's ending and to see that get debunked this week with this fantastic turn-around was definitely worth it for me. Like, I knew he was going to come back, because this is Usopp that we're talking about here, but attacking Trebol head on??? That's insane, I really don't know how he'll manage to overcome this battle if it continues all the way through. I think this is the first time that Usopp has ever really owned up to one of his lies too, which is really cool, and proves that he does indeed care about his comrades despite what a shitton of people seemed to think based on last chapter.
The Kyros stuff was like a small appetizer in comparison, but it was cool to see him as a human. I see this lasting another chapter longer before cutting back to present time.

RE: Official Dressrosa Thread
Law took three bullets to the chest after fighting against Doflamingo and is now conscious with seemingly no noticeable scars from the battle. Anyone who thinks that someone is going to die in this arc clearly has not read the same story that everyone else has.
-
RE: Official Dressrosa Thread
I don't see the Straw Hats getting defeafted in this arc, but they'll definitely go through a low point.
Using Zou as an intermission arc is actually a pretty cool idea though.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
I'm pretty sure that I've mentioned this before, but I don't really think that an Archaeologist was something that the crew ever thought that they would need when Robin joined. And yet it turns out that her job on the ship is actually pretty damn important in the grand scheme of things.
When the time comes for another crewmate to join, we'll be made aware of a significant role that needs to be filled. Right now I don't think they really need another member at the moment. Law, Kin'emon and Momo are basically substitute Straw Hats right now.
-
RE: Official Dressrosa Thread
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the amount of chapters in Dressrosa went into the 70s, depending on how things play out from here. The Law flashback seems inevitable and I'm not sure how much time will be dedicated to that. Then there are the fights of course, which are already starting to happen.
I think the situation with Trebol and Sugar needs to be taken care of first though. That's where the focus is being placed right now and ultimately it'll be the catalyst for the rest of the events that take place in the arc.

RE: Hall of Fame: Classic pages
I think it's worth mentioning that there's a thread in the anime subforum that revolves around your favorite scenes from the anime, so discussion of things like that should just go there instead. This thread is for your favorite panels from the manga because it is in the manga subforum. Nobody is putting down the anime just because they're trying to follow the rules.
Granted, a lot of scenes can fit in both for me, like the aforementioned Usopp vs Chu panels and its anime adaptation, but this is still supposed to be for the manga only.
-
RE: Hall of Fame: Classic pages
Gladius doesn't cause explosions as much as he causes things to burst. The "explosion" effect comes from how condensed the air most likely is when pumping up whatever he's in contact with.
In any case, when put into perspective of how crazy Devil Fruit powers can be nowadays, Mr. 5 and Miss Valentine's Day really did end up wasting their respective fruits. Imagine a skilled fighter with the Kilo Kilo Fruit; they could make themselves light as a feather in order to quickly dodge opponents and then punch someone with a fist that weighs over a ton.

RE: Hall of Fame: Classic pages
Usopp vs Chu panels
Spot on analysis. I think the best thing about this entire set-up is the fact that when watching for the first time (mind you, I watched through the anime before actuall reading through select parts of the series again) I really had no idea what to expect from Usopp at that point. For all I know he WAS going to just fake his defeat in order to get away safely. But then you're treated to that slow realization that he's going to get back up through the use of flashbacks to his crew and allies along with that incredible panel of him shouting back at Chu to come back and fight him for real and it's just so incredibly satisfying. It really was the "make it or break it" moment for Usopp's character, and I probably would've given up on him right then and there if he stayed down, but the fact that he didn't was just such an incredible delight. If anything aside from the walk to Arlong Park got me hooked on the series, it was this.

RE: A Study of One Piece Animation
I'm so glad that they have a character sheet for Vergo in his Terminator Haki form.
-
RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
What exactly did Jerry Jewell do during these commentaries that made him so obnoxious? I mean, it is admittedly annoying that they chose two random filler episodes to talk over out of all the episodes in the set, but I can't help but still be curious. Was it because they just talked about miscellaneous, unrelated things instead of what it was like recording the episode like they usually do?

RE: Official Dressrosa Thread
Some of these arguments don't really make sense to me. For one, Caesar was taken out pretty easily. The only reason why Luffy ever "struggled" against Caesar was because Caesar was a tricky bastard and always managed to pull some last-minute trick out of his ass in order to get the upper hand. Just because Luffy had to confront Caesar more than once in order to defeat him doesn't make him stronger than Doflamingo by any stretch of the imagination. In fact their fights really only lasted for a short time each, so that should speak a lot about how little of a threat Caesar was to Luffy.
Honestly, I think Punk Hazard is the first time in an arc where Luffy didn't take on the strongest antagonist. Vergo would probably wipe the floor with Caesar in a hypothetical one-on-one match.
But in any case, I think at this point Dressrosa is going to become the longest arc in One Piece. We're currently experiencing the point in the arc where things seem dire for the Straw Hats, but soon enough things are going to turn around and they'll start kicking Donquixote ass. They've already spent a hell of a lot of time hyping up the Donquixote Family if you ask me so I think we're ready to jump into the "action" (which is in quotes because we've been experiencing action throughout this entire arc). Doflamingo will certainly be a struggle for Luffy but in the end it isn't the amount of times that it takes to beat an enemy that matters, but rather what the actual defeat entails. If it's one long, meaty brawl between Luffy and Doffy then I'll be pretty satisfied.

RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
Movie 6 is pretty much the black sheep of the One Piece series that has become well known for how different it is, both in its style and its storytelling. Aside from Film Z it's the only One Piece movie that I chose to watch subbed and it was definitely cool.
And speaking of which, I probably won't be able to help feeling bizarre if they do go back and dub all the previous movies, considering that it's been such a long time. They're going to go back to a point in time when there were only 4 Straw Hats. It's just weird to think about.
-
RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
For Kizaru it's just a manner of casting someone who can sound really good at being bored out of his mind. And just have him draw out his speech in a lazy fashion.

RE: Official Dressrosa Thread
Even if Doffy is "stronger", which I think is kind of a vague and pointless thing to debate in the first place, the fights in the series have never been about who has the most strength. If that was the case then Usopp would have lost every fight that he's ever been in. More often than not the victor is the one with the most endurance and willpower to succeed. Now that Dressrosa has become a "Rescue Law" mission, Luffy has the motivation needed to push himself beyond his limits and take down whoever is in his way. With a friend on the line Luffy is going to pull out on the stops and kick some ass.
Also, Usopp isn't going to abandon the mission. The whole reason that the chapter is titled "It's Up To You" in the first place is in order to place emphasis on the fact that it's Usopp and only Usopp that can complete Operation SOP now. He's certainly going to have to go through a moment of internal crisis (hell, that's what he's going through right now) but after that he's going to turn things around somehow. Though I admittedly don't know how just yet, since this is easily the biggest undertaking that he has ever had to deal with in the entire series.
-
RE: Official Dressrosa Thread
I have to admit that would be pretty funny if that happened. Doffy would probably be baffled by this too.
-
RE: Official Dressrosa Thread
I think Luffy is going to just be incapacitated rather than beaten to a bloody pulp on the verge of death like with Crocodile and Lucci. Most likely due to Mingo's Parasite String attack since there's obviously potential to do some twisted things with that. Like having him sic a puppeteered Law and Riku on Luffy or something.
Doffy will definitely get Luffy pretty bloodied up but in the end Luffy is going to come out on top.
-
RE: Official Dressrosa Thread
It's not the Straw Hats being away that I think could be an issue (in fact it's only helping the arc stay less crazy for the time being) but I just hope that we manage to see more of the Donquixote Members beyond one or two chapters each. Pretty much everyone in the Trebol Army has gotten a good amount of screentime thus far, so we can cross them off. We really haven't seen much of the Diamante Army at all aside from Diamante himself, and in the Pica Army we've gotten a pretty decent look at Baby 5 and Buffalo, but Pica himself is still mysterious and we really only found out more about Gladius in this most recent chapter. I'm sure this will all start to change now, but I'm just hoping that they aren't written off extremely fast because the Donquixote Family are among some of the most bizarre and entertaining villains in One Piece.
-
RE: Things That You Would Like to See in the Manga
Assuming that some of the Straw Hats get new bounties in this arc, I think it would be funny if Usopp got a new bounty not under his own name or his Sogeking alias, but for his Usoland persona instead. I feel like it would be pretty fitting for him to be known to the world through these made up personalities of his.

RE: Shaq Fu 2 in Production
Everyone needs to donate to this immediately
If you don't then I will judge you so hard
-
RE: Official Dressrosa Thread
Yeah, unless something else happens immediately I really don't see how there'll be any way to send off all of the Donquixote Family members properly without skipping over some of them. It's too bad considering how eccentric they are, but considering how long this arc is I just don't see it happening.
Also, Jora already had her moment to shine on the Sunny. She's most definitely out for good after what Brook did to her.
-
RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
I feel like it would be good for them to try and get some outside work to do Z's voice like Scott McNeil with Shiki since it would help really distinguish him from the crowd without having to worry about constantly bringing him back into the picture (for obvious reasons).
-
RE: Official Dressrosa Thread
Luffy always gets to take out the head honcho of each arc so I don't think we have to worry about that. Kyros could try to take him out or at least assist Luffy in doing so but at the end of the day Luffy is going to deliver the finishing blow.
-
RE: Dumb Predictions
Usopp will defeat both Trebol and Sugar in one mighty blow by utilizing the long awaited return of the Rubber Band of Doom
-
RE: One Piece Chapter 740 - Please!!!
Kin'emingo was the funniest and most unexpected thing of this chapter. Really glad to see that he split off in order to do that.
Zoro vs Pica is starting up which is cool too since I really hoped it would happen.
Also it's basically confirmed now that Usopp is going to come back and save the day. We wouldn't have a combination of panels from Toy Soldier, Franky, Robin AND Leo praying for Usopp if Oda wasn't going to have him whip out some sort of plan to get the job done. I'm really looking forward to the next chapter now.
-
RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
I'm honestly just looking forward to hearing Kizaru more than anything else. I hope they nail how much of an obnoxiously condescending bastard that guy is.
Also, it's pretty funny how they'll have released two movies with Brook as a part of the crew before they've even dubbed him officially joining.
-
RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
For now, guess Toonami will have to give One Piece a bit of a break
Toonami still has a hell of a lot of episodes to go before it catches up to where they're currently at in the dubbing process. They have at least a two year buffer, so unless they stop dubbing One Piece again for over two years (which I highly doubt at this point) I don't think they'll ever have to stop airing new One Piece episodes on Toonami.
-
RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
Usually in the subs it says "Armament Hardening" whenever Luffy activates it himself, but otherwise considering that Jozu referred to it as Haki they'll most likely use that term to refer to it otherwise. It could go either way.
-
RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
Could someone post this information again? I've never seen it before.
In any case, regarding the types of Haki, I'm sure they'll just have Luffy say something like "Armament Hardening" when he activates Armament Haki.

RE: Things That You Would Like to See in the Manga
I just know that at some point during the final war that Franky is going to have the Sunny convert into a giant mech. It seems inevitable to me and I really look forward to when that happens.
I also feel like Luffy will eventually be able to perfect his Third Gear technique to enough of an extent that he can inflate his entire body at once and become a temporary giant.
-
RE: Official Dressrosa Thread
Yeah, I'm fairly certain that Doffy is going to puppeteer some of the people he's holding captive (whether it be Law, King Riku or Kyros when he arrives) and through some means Luffy and everyone else will finally figure out how to counter it. It may happen during or right at the beginning of their confrontation. I honestly don't think that Luffy will lose in a similar way that he did against Crocodile and Lucci before eventually winning but I definitely think that he's going to get pretty bloody and battered before he eventually can defeat him. Really looking forward to seeing Mingo actually struggling to win a fight for once. Those shades are almost certainly going to be knocked off of his face once everything is said and done and I really hope the moment that this happens is as awesome as I picture it in my head.
I can't help but wonder if Dressrosa will end up being the longest arc in the series thus far. We're already 40 chapters in, and most of the set-up is out of the way aside from Law's inevitable flashback, but considering all of the currently active members of the Donquixote Family (including Doffy himself) I still feel like we have a pretty long way to go before everything is over. It's probably going to surpass Skypiea at this rate, though by how much is still uncertain to me. The only chance I see this not surpassing Skypiea is if the very next chapter involves one of the members of the Donquixote Family being defeated by somebody and that the trend continues from there.
-
RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
I still can't help but be skeptical both because it seems so soon and because FUNi hasn't put out an official announcement themselves about it yet, but I'm not going to say no to them dubbing Film Z either.
-
RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
I certainly wouldn't object to it, though it is surprisingly soon considering how far they have to go before reaching the timeskip. On the plus side we'd be able to hear Kizaru and Akainu early.
If FUNi keeps up their current release schedule, I can see them reaching the timeskip sometime around 2017. This year they'll be finishing Thriller Bark, 2015 would have them cover Sabaody, Amazon Lily and Impel Down, and 2016 would cover Marineford and the Luffy flashback.
-
RE: 635: ''A Fated Reunion - Bellamy the Hyena''
Barto sounds just fine, though I'm moreso looking forward to hearing him in the next episode when he truly starts messing with the crowd, since that and his fanboy outbursts are basically what define the guy.
Definitely a fun episode. Hearing more Brook songs is always a plus as far as I'm concerned.
-
RE: Crunchyroll to release old episodes in HD!
It's good to hear considering that you can't get the earlier episodes in HD anywhere else aside from when they air on Toonami. Though at the same time it's not like the first 200 episodes are in HD anyway so I'm mostly just looking forward to the stuff afterwards.
It'll also be nice to have official subs for those episodes too so I don't have to see shit like "nakama" clogging up the screen all the time.

RE: Chapter 739: Captain
I think it's a lot easier to appreciate Rebecca when you view her character more as a strong emotional link to the Toy Soldier. On her own she doesn't really stand out too well, but anytime the comic shows her interacting with him it's really, really good, and that is due in part to how good of a character the Toy Soldier has proven himself to be so far.
I may not have cared a ton about her short clash with Diamante, but her flashback interaction with Toy Soldier made up for it, even if it didn't move the plot forward.
-
RE: Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)
I'm pretty sure it was because the Level sets were expensive to make since they actually involved a more time-consuming process. That's why they actually feel like HD DBZ rather than the cropped stuff that they're currently crapping out right now.
-
RE: Chapter 739: Captain
first u didn't read the first line of my reply where he was asking robin to flee with him and let the dwarves he couldn't care less about them
now hold on , u say he has a reason to act that way cos he thinks trebol is much stronger than him
but now he's gonna act all brave and save the day cos of leo's speech !! how does that change the fact that he still thinks trebol is way stronger than him ?!it's not about how strong trebol is , even if it was DD , fleeing and letting his friends down after promising to watch their back
is not the likes of usopp's character even before the training
i still hope for a huge pay off for this but i just can't hide my disappointment for what's happeningI did notice the quote that you mentioned before, but that does nothing to prove that Usopp doesn't care about the Tontatta. If he truly didn't care then he would've ran away on his own while Trebol was in the process of blowing them up.
And Usopp has acted this way with plenty of other villains that he has faced. When someone else that is stronger than him is around, he usually lets them take care of everything. And even when he's backed into a corner and has to face an opponent that usurps him strength-wise (Mr. 4 and Miss Merry Christmas in particular come to mind), he usually needs that extra push of motivation to really get the job done. Sometimes that comes through emotional inspiration, sometimes it comes through getting the shit kicked out of him, and often times it involves both. That's what makes him Usopp, and this chapter provided the motivation. I have no doubt that the payoff will come soon. I just don't get why some people seem to think that this is completely new behavior for him.
-
RE: Chapter 739: Captain
"let's make a run for it robin wile we still can"
of course he's not gonna run eventually , but this altitude is so out of character even with his cowardness it doesn't make sense , the guy was in an island where he could be eaten every single minute , but now he sees his friends being killed in front of him and he still needs a speech from leo to man up and do what he's supposed to do from the beginning ! he's taking too much build up that it became irritating , just let's move on alreadyThe reason why he's acting this way is because he believes the Tontatta are much stronger than he is and thought they could handle the situation on their own, and after seeing that they're unable to beat Trebol he just feels as if they are all outmatched strength-wise. And let's be honest here, Trebol is way stronger than Usopp is, so him having that conversation with Leo about fleeing the scene only makes sense. He's genuinely worried about everyone's lives.
However, now Leo has made it clear to him that the Tontatta are not going to run away even if it means they'll be killed or turned into toys, so I can pretty much guarantee that this'll be Usopp's turning point. He's not the kind of person to let people down when he knows that lives are on the line.
I will say that not a lot really happened this chapter, and I feel like they could've condensed some of the scenes a little more to make it seem like things moved faster, but what's done is done. We'll definitely get something big next chapter.

RE: Chapter 739: Captain
Cutting is not the only way of attacking. You could kill a person with a wood sword, just like you could kill a person with an hammer. King Riku just used a blunt sword too and nobody talked about that, Sabo is using a pipe, nobody saying nothing(there are even people saying is cool), Rebecca uses a blunt sword than suddenly shit storm.
About Diamante explaining is power. So if next Sabo attack him with his pipe, you will say he is stupid too, right? Because Diamante just explained is power.
I think the only reason people have an issue with it is the fact that she uses blunt object to fight that's in the shape of a weapon that looks like it could actually cut things and do a decent amount of damage. If she had a blatantly blunt weapon such as a mace or a club then I don't think nearly as many people would have an issue with it. The sword was just misleading.
Also, Barto may not have any kind of emotional connection to Rebecca, but as we've seen throughout the progression of Dressrosa he actually gives a shit about protecting people who he fights with. Plus, his new senpai told him to do it so you know that he's going to end up helping her anyway.
-
RE: Chapter 739: Captain
no one has a problem with usopp being coward he's been that way since the beginning , but he's never let his friends down the dwarves are putting their lives on the line for the mission they believe in their captain and that usoland will watch their back as he promised
but apparently usoland is running for his life fuck the dwarves !! this cowardness is in a whole new level he's never been that wayDo you honestly think that Usopp is going to run away and leave the Tontatta for dead with Trebol and Sugar? That doesn't even make any sense! He told Leo that THEY should run away because Trebol is really damn strong and he's worried about them; it's not like he was saying "Sorry Leo I'm leaving I hope that you and the rest of the Tontatta can take care of this!" after seeing what he has seen. Leo gave him the reason for the Tontatta staying to fight, and like you said, Usopp is not the kind of person who would run away when friends are in danger. I'm willing to bet that the next time we see him that he's going to make some sort of move. Keep in mind that Usopp is not a head-on fighter and if he actually did fight Trebol and/or Sugar head-on he would be taken out really quickly.
Plus, even if you still aren't convinced for some reason, Robin is there. Even in the very minute chance that Usopp was that big of a coward that he'd want to leave and risk the lives of the Tontatta, there's no way Robin would let him leave. This is their mission that they have to carry out one way or another.

RE: Chapter 739: Captain
I think people just don't feel super comfortable with seeing any of the strawhats in "ermergerd i'm so scared" moments this soon after the "we worked so hard for two years we are strong enough now" arc . It kind of puts a tarnish on the two years of training seeing them get there asses kicked/ seeing them be afraid after all hat training…Usoland is just getting the most hate from fans because he talked a BIG talk after the time skip and isn't backing it up at the moment but he will pull through. One thing that sets the strawhats from most pirate crews is they recognize danger and strength. Yeah Sanji, Nami, and Chopper were worried about Flamingo coming at there ship, they arent idiots and understand power levels. They know if it werent for the sake of good story telling Flamingo could have killed all three of them and destroyed the sunny. If they never fear anything it will not only make them.more vulnerable (like all the crews that underestimate the Strawhats) it will also make them less interesting.
I like to think that ALL the Straw Hats talked a big talk after the timeskip (well, save for Sanji due to his nosebleed extravaganza, which is thankfully done and over with now) and pretty much all of Fishman Island was meant to say "They got stronger over the two years they've been training and we'll show you this by having them wipe out 100k fishmen". That was fine then but if that was something that continued into future arcs then it would be boring as hell; good dramatic tension comes from characters being put in situations where they're clearly outmatched and have to fight onwards through some sort of combination of luck, strategy and willpower. And I'm pretty happy to see that Doflamingo is still this incredibly influential and powerful motherfucker even after the Straw Hats spent two years training. It would be extremely disappointing if they arrived at Dressrosa and everything was a cakewalk; Doffy deserves better than that, and so do the Straw Hats.
