Are y'all somehow failing to grasp or just forgetting that Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee aren't part of the core series? They're fun little hybrids meant to entice GO players and hold us off until the real heavy-hitting core titles hit next year. You shouldn't be trying to judge them by the same standards or expectations as those core games.

RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
You know, this is pretty much the best possible outcome and exactly what I hoped for. Game Freak is taking their time to develop the new actual core RPG title(s) for next year, and in the meantime we're getting a fun little set of RPG/GO hybrid games. Nice. This will be plenty to tide me over, and hopefully the 2019 core titles will end up the best they can possible be (meaning not dropping to like 10fps whenever more than two critters happen to be on the battlefield at once).
Anyway, which version I get, Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee, will depend solely on whether the games let us evolve the titular critters. If I'm denied the ability to run around with a Raichu on my head in LGP, then I'll be picking up Eevee instead.

Looks like Michelle Syndrome strikes again, huh?

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
Hell, even the dumb ending of DKR made sense in the context of they were just saying "yeah, this is as close as Nolan would get to having Robin around". Here it just comes off as Disney not wanting the backlash for changing MJ's race and deciding to hide it until the literal last second.
That's pretty much it. I've been seeing this compared to the "Robin John Blake" reveal from Dark Night Rises a lot, but it's not even close to the same thing. The biggest and most obvious point is that "Robin" is just a title that's belonged to multiple characters in the comics and what-not over the years. It's not the designation of a single, unique character like "Alfred" or "Joker" would be. Blake was an amalgamation of traits from several different Robins, essentially served as Batman's sidekick minus the green tights in that movie, and the reveal that his first name was actually Robin was the film's creators saying, "yeah, we know what we did there." THAT is an example of a fun Easter Egg. It was a clever little nod at the very ending of the final movie in a series, just for funsies, and didn't affect anything moving forward.
Michelle is not that. Michelle has none of Mary Jane's defining traits, but has stolen her "MJ" nickname anyway and is likewise being set up to steal her role as Peter's love interest in future films. No. Wrong. Bad. We're not getting a "new take" or an "Easter Egg" with Michelle here, we're getting a wound that doesn't scab over properly and won't be allowed to heal.

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
I thought she was by far the most fun and compelling MJ we've had. I kept wanting more scenes with her. So nailed likeable.
I'm sorry you feel that way.
As for faithful… what, her hair isn't red? Whooptey doo. Vulture is usually an old bald guy in a skintight suit with feather on it that looks ridiculous, and no one complains that his look was different.
Sure the red hair's part of it. Just like Nick Fury's eye patch, that's one of her defining visual traits; I mean shoot, "Red" is literally Peter's nickname for her in the comics. I've seen the Photoshop mock-ups; Zendaya could have rocked the red hair if the people behind this movie didn't make horrible choices and instead just had her play Mary Jane. But on top of that, the problem was even more so the personality.
Real MJ: Real name "Mary Jane," red hair, gorgeous without even trying. Very outgoing and spunky "alpha female" personality. Doesn't take crap but is actually nice. The type who attracts people to her just as much from her disposition as her looks.
Fake "MJ": Real name "Michelle," messy brown hair, overall frumpy and unkempt appearance. Abrasive, cynical, condescending, a constant downer.Looks nothing like Mary Jane + Acts nothing like Mary Jane + Isn't even named Mary Jane = Bad "MJ." It's that simple.
Trying out "new takes" on characters is par for the course with these movie adaptations, and I don't mind at all when they do it well. Just look at my praise for Aunt May. But I don't know what the hell they were thinking with Michelle here. This is far from a new take, it's so much worse. This is writing the word "diamond" on a plain chunk of rock and expecting someone to buy it. Unlike with Aunt May or Vulture, there's absolutely nothing of Mary Jane to be found in Michelle, and she doesn't even come close to deserving that "MJ" nickname. It'd take a LOT of reworking and retconning to fix this horrible abortion of a substitute "MJ" they've stuck us with.
To sum up how I feel… It's downright awful that we're almost certainly going to never get to see this iconic Spider-Man moment brought to life on screen now, and it's all the fault of whichever production moron(s) at Marvel/Sony/Disney thought this whole Michelle thing was a good idea.

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
In googling the actress (I knew the name looked familiar! I found this:
! so I guess we'll see in the next few movies?! I know. We've been seeing these "Zendaya isn't playing 'Mary Jane,' her character's name is 'Michelle' instead! WINK WINK" articles ever since her casting was announced. They've been bullshitting us the whole time and thinking they're clever for it.
! Yes, it's true that Zendaya's character is named "Michelle" instead of "Mary Jane." But that's the problem. Despite that, they slapped the "MJ" nickname on her anyway in the movie, clearly setting her up as some sort of substitute for the real Mary Jane and essentially broadcasting a message of "this is your new 'MJ' for these movies, you're not getting a likable or faithful version. Too bad."
! Which is complete horse shit, had no good reason to happen, and has now ruined a big part of this new, shared-continuity-focused movie version of Spider-Man. -
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
Well I just got home from Spider-Man: Homecoming. Overall, I loved it, but my final score is "only" a 3.5 out of 5 stars. Spoilery details ahoy:
! As you can probably guess, my/the biggest problem with the film is Michelle (I'm not calling her "MJ," at least not without quote-marks, because she's not). She docks a full star from the score all on her own. Not only is she a piss-poor substitute for the real Mary Jane, looking and acting absolutely NOTHING like her, but I found her to be a pretty poor and unlikable character on her own. Michelle was abrasive, condescending, and an all-around downer. Even worse, as far as I can remember she served no practical purpose within the plot. She just showed up to be a snarky bitch to people like half a dozen times, and then dropped the detestable "MJ" bomb at the end.
! It feels like they (Marvel? Sony? Don't really care.) were under some sort of mandate to create a role for their Disney pop princess Zendaya, and completely shit their pants attempting to do so. As a literally-lifelong fan of both the REAL Mary Jane character and of Spider-Man in general, I hate, HATE, HATE that this seems to be the awful excuse for a Mary Jane replacement that we're stuck with in this new movie universe, and it's going to be a major, minimum-one-star-automatically-docked stain on every additional MCU Spidey flick moving forward. Nothing short of a total retcon — where "Michelle" disappears after one film and Zendaya's suddenly playing a faithful Mary Jane in the next — will fix this in my book.
! The other subtracted half-star comes from a few minor things, some of which I couldn't even remember by the time the movie ended. Mostly just more head-scratchers when it came to the supporting cast. Why is Flash Thompson a nerd (but at least he still ACTED like Flash Thompson)? Why does Betty Brant look like Gwen Stacey (and does that mean we're not getting a faithful Gwen down the line, either)? All in all, pretty darn minor compared to the "MJ" problem.
! Now with the negatives out of the way… otherwise, the film was GREAT. It's easily the best Spidey flick since Spider-Man 2. Tom Holland, who actually passes for a teenager unlike Maguire and Garfield before him, nails Peter's character as someone who, sometimes naively, places value in doing the right thing above all else, even at the threat or cost of his own well-being. Michael Keaton was really, REALLY good as Adrian Toomes / Vulture, and this unique, halfway-sympathetic take on the character as a scavenger doing what he can to survive and provide worked quite well. Plus he ended up having a great hero-and-villain dynamic with Peter/Spidey.
! I found Ganke-Ned pretty annoying at first, but he managed to redeem himself and warm me up to him as the film went along. As another example of a "new interpretation" of a character that actually does work, unlike Michelle/"MJ," I've come to really like Marisa Tomei's version of Aunt May. I think it makes sense in a way for her to be portrayed as a relatively young cougar aunt, rather than having one foot constantly in the grave like Aunt May from the comics. In spite of that change, the spirit of the character is still there, unlike with Michelle/"MJ." She's still Peter's doting, over-protective mother figure who's smarter than she lets on, and despite being unsure of herself at times, still tries her best to take care of Peter without Ben around to help anymore.
! The writing was solid, and the four or five big action sequences were really all well-done. All things considered, the movie had a LOT more positives than negatives... it's too bad that the one big negative has left such a noticeable stain on it. -
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
I will never be okay with this Michelle/"MJ" crap they're pulling in Homecoming (especially considering how it could make things even worse fore the real Mary Jane in the comics), and it's ruined a huge part of Spider-Man in the MCU going forward… but I still plan to see it. I've been a Spider-Man fan since I was like 5 years old; I can't NOT go see a brand-new Spidey film.
Good thing I have enough Regal Cinemas points saved up for a free ticket.

RE: The Nintendo Thread
Hella excited for the SNES Classic, especially with that Star Fox 2 inclusion. But of course America gets the boring gray-ish purple version again… if its functionally the same, with the same games and no extra censorship or anything, then I wonder if importing the more colorful European version will be a good option.

RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
I'm hearing speculation that Crystal isn't releasing for 3DS VC alongside Gold and Silver because the Japanese version relied so much on that cell phone connectivity stuff for its multiplayer. The rest of the world obviously can't be allowed to have something like this if glorious privileged Nippon would miss out, so no perfectly-feasible international release of Crystal either. Hopefully that's not the case and Crystal just needs more time or something, but if that's the reason for its absence or delay then I'll be pretty miffed.
But with my one small gripe out of the way… I'm hyped. I'm actually perfectly content to play Silver instead of Crystal because Silver was my first Gen-2 game back in the day anyway. Pokkén Tournament DX is just what I was hoping for now that I have a Switch (and now all I need is a Mario Maker port and I'll have nothing left to get for Wii U), but I'm puzzled as to why the new Sun/Moon addition to the roster is Decidueye instead of Incineroar who's literally a showboating arena-fighting wrestler cat.
Then of course Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are quite intriguing… I'm not sure what they're going to do with the story aside from Necrozma apparently trying to assimilate Solgaleo or Lunala, but I'm eager to find out. Also wondering what kind of other new features and critter variations the games might bring. I've seen speculation that there might be more Johto focus including new Alolan forms for Johto Pokémon... if that ends up true, I'm already setting myself up for the disappointment of not getting a Steel/Dragon Skarmory.

RE: The Nintendo Thread
Speaking of dropping things, Nintendo of America has finally just dropped the full details on the Switch's online service.
Those pricing options ain't too shabby; Only $20 for an entire year. There's still a distinct lack of any cloud-saving going on, so hopefully that gets introduced sooner or later.

RE: General Zelda thread
We've got the scoop on the first DLC update: http://zelda.com/breath-of-the-wild/news/expansion-pass-dlc-pack-1-detailed/
And in more detail: http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170501006467/en/
! I am so totally on-board with tackling a good ol' combat dungeon and getting the Master Sword powered up.
Also, some buzz on Twitter saying alternate voice language options are now available for the game by downloading language packs off the eShop or something? Don't have a solid source for that but I'll go find out…
EDIT: Yyyyyep, it's true. I've got the big 800+ MB language patch downloading now. Of course, I've already beaten 95% of the game in English at this point, so I may as well finish it in English too.

RE: The Nintendo Thread
Aaaaaand Nintendo decides to randomly announce yet another 3DS revision. Introducing the "New 2DS XL."
-
RE: The Nintendo Thread
Apparently I got pretty uncharacteristically lucky with my Best Buy compared to other stories I'm hearing since I got home. I stopped by yesterday and was told they'd be handing out reservation tickets to people in line at around 8:30 this morning. I got there around 7:45, was only the third person in line, and was able to go kill time elsewhere and just waltz back into the store when it opened at 10 to pick up my reserved unit.
I'm honestly surprised that it went so well and that my usually dirt-broke self was able to snatch one up during this last chance.
-
RE: The Nintendo Thread
That's Nintendo for you. Great products, mind-blowingly stupid and backwards "business decisions."
Being the perpetually broke and apparently unemployable loser that I am, I was never able to afford an NES Mini whenever they got restocked. Looks like any last tiny slivers of hope have just completely evaporated now.

RE: Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K)
I'm a backer for the revival Kickstarter, so I got to stream the first new episode in advance last night. It was a total hoot. Jonah is a natural. The sets and effects look great while still having the expected homemade MST3K look. The choice in movie (Reptilicus) was perfect, and the good riffs just kept shooting out like a burst fire hydrant.
Can't wait for the rest of the season to hit Netflix.

RE: General Zelda thread
I wasn't completely sure until I popped over to the Korok Forest, but this latest little patch for Breath of the Wild has definitely brought some noticeable framerate improvements.

RE: Go Go Power Rangers… to Krispy Kreme!
So I just got back from an evening premiere of the movie.
I liked it. It wasn't great, but it was good. From the start I more or less knew what to expect from the movie and I had a lot of fun.
Spoiler-filled detailed thoughts…
! I think its two main shortcomings were sloppy exposition and sub-par music placement.
! With the exposition, I mean mostly the middle section of the movie where, after the teenagers with attitude discover the command center ship, they and we the audience are just kind of told everything about their situation right up front and all at once, without enough time dedicated to processing it. Yet at the same time I feel like we weren't told enough, in a "whole lot of what without the how and why" kind of way. Terms like "Power Rangers" and "Zeo Crystal" and "Morphin Grid" are just tossed out there as if we're expected to already know what they are. I'm sure most folks watching the movie DO already know what they are from the series, but the characters wouldn't. Things needed to be explained and tied together a bit more. Maybe there was a lot of cut footage that originally handled this better, I dunno.
! As for the music, it just never seemed to impress me. It was a lot of rather generic-sounding orchestral themes, none of which ever really stood out to me, combined with a heaping handful of "real songs" that never quite felt like they belonged there. If you ask me, the film would have been better off with a more balanced score of non-vocal rock-style music (I know I'm describing that badly but it's past 11PM here), more in tune with the sounds of the original show.
! And speaking of the original show, I spent the whole time listening for the iconic theme song, but it only ever popped up once… for about 10 seconds as the Zords were all racing off to intercept Goldar. Obviously seeming to echo the visuals in the show's opening. But what disappointed me was that it sounded like they just lifted the original show's version of the theme song itself, instead of even bothering to do a new cover or mix of it or anything... I didn't stay past the mid-credits scene-(which name-dropped exactly who you'd expect it to name-drop, by the way), so if there was a new version of the classic theme song during the later credits, I wasn't still around to hear it.
! But enough of the complaints… all-in-all I really enjoyed the movie. It knew what it was adapting and had just the right amount of nostalgic cheese, dropping obligatory catchphrases liberally yet not over-doing it. There was a clever joke towards the end that I loved about whether or not the Yellow Ranger was a boy or a girl. It did a fairly good job of pairing that goofy side with the teenage drama aspects. I felt the movie actually did a pretty darn good job making you care about and sympathize with the five Rangers. When they finally all came together as both friends and a team towards the end, you're really cheering for them. Cranston and Banks were also obviously having a lot of fun with their roles, and Alpha was a hoot too. -
RE: Go Go Power Rangers… to Krispy Kreme!
We've got a new full trailer:
! Minus one point from me for the Kanye West music, but overall I continue to like what I see. Glad that despite the darker tone of the earlier previews, it doesn't look like it'll take itself too seriously. The suits, Zords, and the Megazord look awesome in motion, and I see what they're going for with Goldar and the Putties being elemental monsters under Rita's command.

Anyone else planning to catch or hatch a bunch of Delibird, have them hold rare goodies from Poké Pelago, and then Wonder Trade 'em all away on Christmas?

RE: Yooka-Laylee (Banjo-Kazooie Spiritual Successor)
Aw bummer, I was planning to get the game on Wii U. Ah well, I'll see if a Switch version happens instead, and if not then there's always Steam.

We have our first real trailer for Guardians Vol. 2, people!
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
I went out and bought Sun first thing this morning and I'm making good progress in the early game… I just finished up with the Pokémon School stuff. It only took me three resets at the start to get a Litten with a Jolly nature (+Speed/-Sp. Attack), which I figured will benefit him most as an Incineroar later.
My early-game team's fluctuating a lot, but right now I'm using Buster (Litten), ButterButt (Butterfree), Bruddah Iz (Munchlax, didn't expect to be able to nickname him!), and I'm hunting right now for a good-natured Pichu.
-
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
I'm like 99.999% sure that the Vulture was actually Spidey's first costumed villain in the original comics. So it's especially fitting that he's his first villain in the new Spidey film continuity too.
Now if only we could have MCU Spidey interact with the Fantastic Four and pick fights with Johnny Storm just for the hell of it, then we'd have the total old-school 60's routine in place.
EDIT: Crap, I was wrong. The first villain was Chameleon instead. Although maybe he's in the movie too, but we just don't know it yet…!
-
RE: Movie Confessions Thread
I've never watched Bladerunner despite owning it on DVD for like 5 years now.
-
RE: Go Go Power Rangers… to Krispy Kreme!
This different toy version of the Megazord looks better. Unlike the one above, it at least actually resembles a robot assembled from other robots.
This is the first thing I've seen from the movie that I'm kind of iffy about, but low-res shots of cheap toys aren't exactly a great representation. Withholding judgement until we're shown the Megazord from the actual film.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
Well, that settles it then. I'm sticking to my fire-type starters tradition and choosing Litten for my first playthrough. Incineroar the Fire/Dark wrestling tiger is too awesome to pass up.
Although Decidueye is also pretty darn cool, and since I won't be using Alolan Marowak for a fire-type now, I'll have room for a Ghost-type too… a two-starters playthrough via trading may be in order.
-
RE: The Nintendo Thread
I'm unbelievably hyped. The Switch is looking to be everything I always hoped the NX rumors would be right about.
I imagine that basically everything but the dock has a battery in it, especially the Joy-Con Grip, to maximize battery life no matter what control combination you're using. There'll probably be a lot of variation in battery life depending on each configuration.
Also, I'd assume the screen is a touchscreen like the reputably-rumored specs always said (and because, well, why wouldn't it be with a tablet-like system?), but it looks like it'll be of secondary and minimal use, mainly for OS/menu navigation and stuff. It'll be easier for developers that way. I didn't see a stylus anywhere, but hopefully we can still draw stuff for Miiverse and the like.
I'm envisioning being able to buy a separate smaller charging dock/stand for the thing, so that I'll be able to keep the main Switch unit upstairs in my bedroom and leave the bigger dock downstairs hooked up to the big TV. I'm wondering if any Wii/U accessories and controllers will be compatible with it. Odds are it'll have Wii VC games, and it'd be nice if I could use the U Pro Controller I already have (not that I don't want the Switch version too). I just really, really hope Nintendo doesn't screw up the account and games library systems, online infrastructure, etc… Those aspects need improvement just as much as hardware.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
Yeah, for some reason I doubt Nintendo's going to forego traditional, smaller handhelds in favor of the Switch. It's more like a home console that can ALSO be portable, and is still too big to truly serve as a handheld. I'd bet the 3DS has another solid year or two of life left, and then it'll have a successor of its own.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
Yeeeaaaaah I'm gonna be raising me a Kommo-o, I think.
@The:
Also. What teams, with this latest batch of information and the game so close to release, what teams is everyone thinking about making at this current point?
Well, Alolan Raichu was a shoo-in from the very moment it was revealed, and I'm going to try out Alolan Ninetails too. Also going for Kommo-o as mentioned above.
Right now, the rest is still dependent on Litten's final evo. I traditionally pick Fire-type starters for my first times through a game, but if it ends up Fire/Fighting then I'll probably pass it over and go with Rowlet instead, then either Salandit or Alolan Marowak for a Fire-type. If it ends up something better like Fire/Dark (oh please, please, please) then I'll pick it per tradition and maybe try Tsareena for Grass.
That's 5 slots, and the 6th is still a total mystery. I gotta say, part of me will miss HMs this time around (I never hated them, just wished they were all good moves you wouldn't mind keeping), but it's nice being able to plan a team based just on type coverage and favorites, rather than worrying about what can learn which HMs.

RE: Go Go Power Rangers… to Krispy Kreme!
Seriously, what were you guys expecting all along from "adult-aimed Hollywood adaptation of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" in order to be so displeased now?
For what we've known this movie would be like since the beginning, I think it looks pretty darn cool and fun.
-
RE: Go Go Power Rangers… to Krispy Kreme!
Trailer has me hyped. Still not seeing anything I don't like.
For a quasi-reboot adaptation movie aimed mostly at folks who watched Power Rangers as kids but are now grown up, the heavier tone and content is exactly what I expected.
-
RE: My Hero Academia - Gomu Gomu no Gentle Fist
Hasn't the author stated pretty plainly at one point that Ochako was planned all along as Deku's love interest? Plus as Wagomu's pointed out it's a pretty natural character progression for a high school girl. It's becoming a big part of her character lately, but it's not the entirety of it. What's the problem?
-
RE: Dragon Quest thread : DQXI on PS4, 3DS & Switch
I also picked up Dragon Quest VII brand new on release day. (You see, Square-Enix and Nintendo? I told you I would. Now keep 'em coming!) But I haven't started playing it yet. I've been doing Pokémon game replays all year for the franchise's 20th anniversary, and I didn't want to start up another big game like DQVII to distract me from finishing my current Pokémon entry (Platinum, like 85% through the story).
So in probably about 2 weeks when I'm done with that, I'll be starting up both my next Pokémon game (White 2) and Dragon Quest VII at the same time. It'll be tough to balance my attention between DQVII and additional Pokémons (especially when I get Sun) but darnit, I'll sure try. In the meantime, the urge to dive into and indulge in DQVII to the point of risking starving to death is excruciating.
-
RE: The PlayStation Thread
Anything new there adding to the new Spidey Game ? I'm huge fan of Spider**-M**an but the games have been rinse and repeat with the swing around catch bad guys etc..etc…
Beats me. We haven't had anything beyond the original trailer, which looked nice but didn't actually reveal much.

RE: New One Piece game for Nintendo 3DS
https://one-piece.com/news/detail/20160912_4507
Apparently DBZ Extreme Butoden is getting an update in Japan that will actually allow crossover play between it and Colosseum here. Will that serve as extra incentive for this game to be localized? I sure as heck hope so.
-
RE: The PlayStation Thread
Kind of glad to know that if I get a PS4 at any point, I'll be just fine sticking to the new-standard Slim model. The PS4 on its own already barely merits buying for me (the exclusive Spidey game is like 90% of it), and the Pro specifically doesn't appear to have anything to offer me that I can't get out of a high-end PC instead.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
Totally wicked-looking exclusive Z-Move for Alolan Raichu, alriiiiiiight~
-
RE: The Nintendo Thread
I was really excited about Mario Maker 3DS, until I learned it won't have online sharing and thus is pretty much pointless. Still aiming for the Wii U version instead, then. MAYBE I'll get the 3DS version eventually if online gets patched into it, or just as a cheaper companion game of sorts.
The new little bits of Pokémon and Zelda news were cool, though. I love that Alolan Raichu is getting an exclusive Z-Move, and I'm going to need a dedicated shelf JUST for Zelda-series amiibo at this rate.
-
RE: The Nintendo Thread
At this rate, they'd probably shoot themselves in the foot if they had a Direct for the NX late this year but then didn't release the console in time for Christmas. I'd bet we'll get an NX reveal Direct right off the bat in early January.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
Well maybe it's mostly just me, but I'm the type who doesn't play competitively or anything and prefers to just battle quickly and efficiently in the single-player game. So I usually don't care much for "setup" moves like terrains or weather. I'd be very disappointed if Alolan Raichu is slower than classic Raichu, and he ends up needing Surge Surfer to have good speed.
But otherwise, with you reminding me of all of Electric Terrain's other benefits… heck yeah, that seems pretty awesome now. As long as, like you said, Raichu can use it early enough.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
Unless they have magnet rise they'll suffer the same face:ninja:.
Well, Raichu can learn Magnet Rise, so…
It'd have been nice if Alolan Raichu's new ability was Levitate. I'm sure I'd get more use out of that than Surge Surfer. Maybe he'll get it as a hidden ability or something.
-
RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
I'm rather fond of the new official artwork that shows Pikachu getting dragged underground to its demise by a Palossand. I like to also imagine an Alolan Raichu and a classic Raichu both hovering safely overhead atop the former's tail, chuckling to themselves. Mmmmmm…

RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
So having read some of the "scoop" articles about Zendaya more closely, some are saying that…
! Her character will still be Michele Gonzales, but have "J" for a middle initial, and towards the end of the movie she tells Peter "call me MJ." So if true, they wouldn't even be just halfway-creatively revamping Mary Jane Watson a bit. They'd be using some different character, slapping the "MJ" moniker onto her, and expecting fans to like that.
-
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
I don't know personally why they don't just find someone with naturally red hair to play a Mary Jane.
Me neither, really. I feel kind of bad about the part of me that's internally screaming "that's not what MJ looks like, you morons," but I admittedly can't disagree with that part, even when I try to rationalize the casting decision like in my first post.
I'd like to believe that they're not just ignoring what the character looks like for the sake of forced diversity, and that they really have a good reason for casting Zendaya… but my life has trained me to be too cynical for that.
Maybe it's just the part of me that's a huge Spider-Fan and has never been fully satisfied by the casts of the prior movies, particular their versions of Mary Jane. Kirsten Dunst fell short in a few ways, Shailene Woodley's MJ in ASM2 didn't even get to appear, and now I think I'm just really afraid that we'll end up 0 for 3 with live-action Mary Janes. Most of the MCU's casting for major characters is spot-on, and it'd be just my typical luck if my favorites (the Spider-Man ensemble) ended up being the duds.
-
RE: Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs
Skin color or general ethnicity isn't all that important unless it's one of the character's defining features, and to be fair, "white girl" isn't really one of MJ's top traits. In this case, I'd say her most standout feature is that shimmering red hair. I mean hell, Peter's nickname for her is "Red." A Mary Jane Watson without red hair is like a Nick Fury without an eye patch. So in my book, a mixed-race actress playing MJ is only a problem worth fussing over if it prevents her from looking good with red hair.
That said, a quick Google search of "Zendaya red hair" has me thinking that maaaaaybe she can pull it off and resemble the character. We'll see. She at least has MJ's "drop-dead gorgeous model" face for it a lot more than Kirsten Dunst did.

RE: Pokemon Ultra S&M - Let's Minecraft Pikachu and Eevee Quest
I wouldn't mind them doing that sort of thing with HM moves if they did keep them functionally the same in the games. I don't think most players would mind them if they were actually good moves worth keeping and using.
Like, make Cut a Steel-type move, and give it a high critical ratio, or a chance to reduce the target's Defense, or something like that. Turn Strength into a Fighting-type move and maybe also give it a secondary effect (small chance to boost the user's Attack?). Surf and Waterfall are already good alternate special and physical counterparts, and the latter has a chance to cause flinching. Maybe even make Fly a one-turn move in exchange for a slight damage reduction or something. But any way you slice it, there should only ever be 5 of them, and non-damage ones like Flash and Defog should no longer be among them.
Anyone with me on this? It would at least definitely be a marked improvement over the moves' current incarnations, even if not preferable to just removing the need for HMs entirely.

According to the website unlike the other alolan formes which seem to have an explanation, scientists don't know what made Raichu change happen.
A burning, desperate desire to stand out with something new and special and take back some attention from Pikachu.
…Also pancakes.

So it looks like the leaks are legit and Alolan Raichu is for real.
Takes a deep breath AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH IT'S SO FRIGGIN' CUTE I'M TOTALLY USING IT.
I'm definitely teaching it Psyshock, assuming that's still a TM in Sun/Moon. Also, considering the whole surfer motif, it had better be able to learn Surf one way or another.
