RE: What are your hobbies? What do you like to do?
I only have two hobbies: playing videogames and having sex…preferably in separate intervals.
I would include eating and losing faith in humanity in there also, but that's more of a lifestyle.
Everything else I do is more of a means to achieving the above said hobbies than anything else.

RE: My printer and college
Your college experience will depend greatly on what you make of it. What affects a lot of people going away to college (if you happen to be living on campus away from home) is their newfound independence. I'm not sure how many units/credits constitutes a class, but something I did was to register for the classes I needed/wanted to take, got a feel for the courseload involved for each class, then either added or dropped classes accordingly to fit a schedule I was comfortable with. So if it's possible to register for your requisite classes and the photoshop class, I would do that, and see how things go from there.
Things to watch out for: Crappy teachers cripple a course, even if it's the most interesting subject in the world. But you probably already knew that.
Also, as it's college, there will undoubtedly be some degree of partying, drinking and/or sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Have fun, but you might regret slacking a little too much if you don't balance your recreations with your workload.

RE: Any Bookworms Here?
@Roz:
I'm kind of disappointed that no one seems to have answered with "porn" yet.
You guys are slipping.
I'd rather watch it than read it, although I do have a niche for reading porn written by famous authors during their early career. For example, little did I know that J.K. Rowling meant for her hit series to be a cheesy raunch novel originally titled Hairy Potter and the Sorcerer's Bulge. Or that J.R.R. Tolkien had originally titled his trilogy "The Fellowship of the Cockring," "The Two Throbbing Towers," and "The Return of the King" (strangely unchanged).
And, man oh man, you don't even want to know what Dr. Seuss's Hop on Pop was originally.

RE: World Government Corruption?
They desire, above all else, to stop anyone from bringing back the lost weapons of the ancient civilization, the destructive power of which are equivalent to a nuclear arsenal. These are fairly lofty goals. Should someone bring back the ancient weapons (pluton, poseidon, etc.) it would cause massive, worldwide destruction and loss of innocent life.
Caveat: The world government in following these goals have no respect for the human rights of those they consider threats.
I would agree for the most part, but since this is a manga, I would argue that there could exist a better alternative to the current system that the WG has. I think that caveat is a big reason why we see the WG as "corrupt."
Still, most of the atrocities of justice we have witnessed CAN be justified if you consider the threats to world peace that they eliminated.
The Buster Call of Ohara can be explained by the need to keep WMD's out of the hands of terrorists or megalomaniacs. Plenty of people in the modern world would willingly sacrifice a known number of civilians to prevent the equivalent from happening on Earth.
The WG offered little diplomacy or discretion in their destruction of Ohara. Likening it to this real world analogy, it would be something like dropping an atom bomb on North Korea because they possess WMDs–without diplomacy, without discretion.
The Buster Call's goals seem to be very much like the use of the Ancient Weapons. As it was said,
I believe crocodile said at one point that the weapon would give him the power to wipe an entire island off the map, hence the nuclear comparison.
Which essentially seems like what the Buster Call did to Ohara.
Having said all that, I think that there could exist a better system than the WG, at least in theory. This isn't the real world, so we aren't limited by the constraints of practicality, I guess. As such, there could be a system of government, unified and altruistic, that could exist in One Piece. I'm going out on a limb, but such a system might have existed in the period during the "lost century" and was destroyed by the current "corrupt" WG.
This, in addition to the handful of local corruption of WG positions that we have seen the SH encounter, would mark the WG as the "bad guy."
Yeah, it makes sense that the easiest way to deal with the Ohara problem was to erase it from the face of the planet, and for all practical reasons, it is a good move by the world government. But this is shounen manga, where extremism in the face of adversity apparently is a vice (at least for the WG). So all those innocent lives lost make the readers scream bloody murder, and the general structure of the WG is forever pegged as bad.
Were we to one day find out that the WG established itself 800 years ago out of disorder and chaos in a society ruled by the strongest and most ruthless "survival of the fittest" world, we would probably cheer the WG to no end. However, I have a feeling rather that the WG did something a little more negative than that–something will be revealed that makes themselves the ultimate bad guys--and that's why it's okay for Luffy to go against the WG like he is.
Maybe the WG isn't really that corrupt, but right now at least, it seems the WG is the bad guy.

You're right, I wouldn't like to see every new battle become a peeing contest between Luffy's and the villain's raw power.
I'd like to see innovation in and refinement of the Strawhats' current abilites. I'm not sure exactly how it'll be done, because I'm not very original but that's what we often look forward to.
I hope that they will not be destroying mountains anytime soon, but I like a little flair now and then of some guy flying through 4 walls.

RE: Canon
The two fanbases will have a different view of his progression. Furthermore, the anime has painted themselves into a corner– when they're SUPPOSED to do that, how do they make it consistent?
Yeah, I pretty much agree. I always thought defining what was canon was a way to have a sort of common foundation on which discussions can be made. Especially the ever-popular "Who is stronger????" threads. For example, I find Robin's "grand fleur" move in (movie 4? I forget…the one where they are racing against Gaspar) to be rather inconsistent with her normal repertoire of moves. These kind of inconsistencies generate a lot of incongruencies between the anime and manga. I guess people try to find a sort of official base to work with when they say that something is not "canon."
However, an author's original work can be also have inconsistencies in it, so that makes trying to establish what is canon even more difficult. I have no business telling people what is canon and what isn't, though--I just sort of keep track of it for myself.

RE: The Stupidest Thing you will EVER read
I know but what I was arguing was the point made that Smokers should be stopped from smoking NOT because of second hand smoke (I agree that people should have the right to breathe clean air), but that it should be banned to keep the people who want to smoke them safe, that is BULLSHIT
I think you should have established your above stance in the first post to save some confusion. The first post only said that you thought the article was stupid, and the article only mentions banning smoking in general public places, which is good in some places, and not such a good idea in other public places, I would guess. But since the article doesn't explicitly say anything about how smoking should be stopped not "because of second hand smoke…but that it should be banned to keep the people who want to smoke them safe," I think it confused a lot of people why the article was stupid. Otherwise I would agree with you.
Smoking by yourself is ok by me. Though banning smoking in certain areas seem silly, I think bans on smoking in public places are put there mainly because of second-hand smoke.
Using the ipod analogy, I feel its fine if you want to destroy your own eardrums by turning the music up loud while you have ear phones on. However, if you plug your ipod to a computer and speakers and blast the music so that you're destroying your neighbors' eardrums as well, then there is a problem. It's the second-hand smoke I don't like, and I agree with you on that part. If cigarettes were smokeless and affected only the user, I doubt I would mind them at all.

RE: One Piece falls to #21 best rated anime.
There's a disparity between enjoying One Piece because it's popular and being introduced to the series because it's popular. "Popularity" is certainly a factor for reeling in new viewers and readers, as said, but I wouldn't disagree with Cosmic's viewpoint.
Whether there is or is not a significant decrease in the perceived popularity of One Piece does not in my mind alter how much I enjoy the series. While I agree that a perceived drop in One Piece's popular appeal would decrease the number of potential new fans from trying the series out, I doubt that a significant number of already established One Piece fans would enjoy the series any less because they aren't king of the hill anymore, and those few that actually do like One Piece less as a result of an outward change in popularity are most likely capricious bandwagon-ers who couldn't have seriously enjoyed the series if they are willing to leave it so easily.
So yeah, I agree that a large number of people may enter One Piece as part of the bandwagon, but if they come to enjoy the series, a poll won't affect them. I guess One Piece might attract less newcomers as a result of a drop in popularity, I don't know, but I wouldn't think the poll would affect the current One Piece fanbase that much.

I also didn't know that Jump came in chapters, so I thought that was the end of the whole story. I was so disappointed that the rubber guy smashed the good guy with a boulder!

Flirting is pretty challenging, albeit rewarding. To correctly pull off a flirt you'll need a level 3 charge bar and execute the following:
Press Up, Down, Down, Left, Quarter circle forward, Down, Down-forward on the D-pad and then press any two punch buttons.
Combo into a series of Hadokens and Dragon Punches on your flirtee and they'll be as good as yours.

RE: Who cares about the buster call.
I forgot. Is the Buster Call specifically targetting the Strawhats or are they just going to decimate the island?
If their job is to destroy or capture the SH, I would hope that they would be more careful than recklessly steering their warships up onto shore, especially if they know of the chaos going on around the island.
Like it would make more sense to me if they stationed the warships outside of firing range around the island so that no ships would slip past them undetected. Then they could send smaller boats carrying squads of men to patrol the coasts, not to directly engage all the SH, but to locate them.
It makes absolutely no sense for the warships to run ashore (and, I might add, into firing range -Usopp or otherwise) and send the marines charging into the island when
(1) they have little intelligence about the exact problem on the island (i.e. how many enemies there are, where they currently are all located, and how the state of Enies Lobby currently is…)
(2) charging into the island would disperse the men, plus they would be charging blindly meaning they could be ambushed by the FF and/or SH.
If the Vice Admirals had any sense of strategery I would think they would be cautious in their destruction of the island. Ohara (save Saul) didn't put up much of a fight, so its destruction was a cakewalk. This time the Buster Call at least has to know that they are facing a group whose collective bounty is 239 million Beli.
That by itself is reason enough not to throw caution to the wind. The Buster Call, I think, should also know that the SH are actually winning in their battle against Enies Lobby. At least I really hope they know that because if they don't then there is a serious problem with communication. Not one marine has the smarts to relay a message about the invasion to other islands?
But I suppose the SH have to be able to defeat/escape - I just hope it's not because the BC mistakes its arrogance for intelligence.
The SH got the jump on the marines at Enies Lobby - they rushed as far into the island as fast as they could (and the FF eventually lost, even...well, except Paulie was faking). There should be no reason why the marines on the warships should make the same mistake.
Natural reason tells me that the SH would not make it out of EL alive, but we know they are, which is why I look forward to seeing how they escape the BC.

RE: Chapter 418 "Luffy vs. Rob Lucci" Discussion
I suppose I always knew Lucchi was going to be a badass, but I still was impressed with how much of a badass he is. Yeah, he seems to be getting knocked around a little bit right now, but still - taking a strong right head on (with his hands calmly folded behind him) - and not even flinching? That was pretty impressive.
I think Franky is a middle tier straw hat fighter to be honest, hes not a Nami or Chopper, but hes not a Zoro or Luffy either. Maybe without thier powerups he could give a good fight, but certainly not with now that they've made these advancements.
I'd put him above Chopper but below Sanji, hes a nice addition to the crew which was kind of splitting into two teams before, as evidenced by the Skypeia arc with the bells. The strong(er) guys and the weak(er) guys. Franky sorta falls between Sanji and Chopper to me, so he kinda bridges the two teams. Of course I wouldn't call any of them weak anymore.
I find it hard to rank them, and in terms of being a top or middle tier fighter, I dont wanna even try to rank them. For me it's easier to compare individual characteristics (i.e. Franky is physically stronger than Nami, though slower than Sanji and Zoro.).
As far as saying Franky cannot fight on the same level as Zoro and Sanji,
while it could perhaps be true, I would be hesistant in making that assumption. But that's only my insignificant opinion.I am also curious as to know how much greater Luffy's strength is with Gear 2. He can break Lucchi's tekkai with it, but Franky's initial attack does nothing. I haven't seen anything that could compare Zoro or Sanji's strength to Franky's but I wonder how they would have faired against Lucchi's tekkai?
I was always under the impression that Franky's physical strength was always very much on par with Luffy's normal strength and, in turn, Zoro and Sanji's (I assume their disparities in strength to be for the most part insignificant) - although that is also only my conjecture. So I suppose Gear Two greatly increases Luffy's strength beyond that of Franky, Zoro, or Sanji since he can tear through Lucchi's initial tekkais with considerable ease compared to Franky, who can't even make Lucchi shift his weight?
I know that Luffy is always suposed to be the strongest, but I liked how it was never a runaway victory for him. Zoro and Sanji were both very good fighters also (as they still are now), but with the advent of Gear 2's complete badass-ery AND the expected arrival of Gear 3, which may launch Luffy's strength to even greater astronomical proportions…I am wondering how the others will catch up.
Oops, that post was too long.

RE: Kuro vs Bellamy.
I wouldn't be able to say who would win definately.
It's only my opinion, but I always saw Bellamy as a rather impatient guy, diving headfirst into situations that (as we saw when he encountered Luffy) would eventually get the better of him.
Kuro strikes me as being a tad more patient…patient enough to wait all those whatever number of years before fully implementing his sadly foiled plan.
So I would hazard a guess that Kuro's chances to win would increase the longer the fight was drawn out. If Bellamy didn't win the fight in the beginning, (though I am unsure what duration of time defines "the beginning") I think Kuro would eventually get the better of him, because Bellamy, in his impatience, would likely do something foolhardy or put himself into a more vulnerable position, which I feel Kuro would surely exploit.

RE: Strawhats personality diagrams
Thanks for posting that, Aldrich.
Are those in order? If it is, it's weird how he gave Chopper only a 2 in skills and Nami only a 4. Being a doctor seems to me like it would require a great deal of medicinal proficiency - at least more than what would merit a 2. Or maybe it means skillz…like numchuck skillz, bowhunting skillz, etc.
I guess it could be talking about skills in terms of the utilization of their full potential or hmm... anyway I thought it was a little weird at first glance.

RE: Sanji annoys me (rant)
Sanji's out of the Enies Lobby battle until Oda SAYS he's back. Enough, already! >.<;
I just took this to mean that we should just wait and see what Oda plans. I'd agree that Sanji is currently "out of the Enies Lobby battle," because he is currently not fighting and no CP9 has been matched up against him since he encountered Califa. I haven't really seen much strong evidence foreshadowing that Sanji is going to fight in the future, so I agree with Malintex_Terek that we can assume that currently "Sanji's out of the Enies Lobby battle." So "until Oda SAYS he's back" I would say that, no, Sanji is not fighting right now. I don't think this says anything about Sanji not fighting in the future or Sanji being out of the action permanently. He'll fight in the future if or when Oda puts him back in the ring. That's all I got out of it, and I agree. But I misunderstand things a lot so who knows…

RE: How Long Has Luffy Been Out to Sea?
Zoro is not Luffy, his leg wounds and his chest wounds flat out dehabilitated him during the series. I think it would take at least a month for Zoro to heal from a wound given him by the strongest swordsman in the entire world with the strongest sword in the entire world.
I do not think that we need to consider healing time as a measure of how long the strawhats have been out at sea as we have definitely seen that the strawhats mend in an incredibly short amount of time. And while I agree, that it would make sense for them to take longer to heal, Roman's timeline is very convincing, and so I don't look at their wounds in a realistic light. It does seem unrealistic that Zoro could heal completely so fast, but then if you think about it, it also seems unrealistic that any human could be as strong as Zoro, e.g. doing some 24,000 pushups on one hand. It's Oda's manga so he can make them heal as fast as he wants.
I also do not think that only Luffy heals rapidly as we have seen other characters mend in a matter of days - for example, Usopp, who had all the bones in his face broken after being hit with Mr. 4's four ton bat. It could be that Luffy heals more rapidly than the strawhats, but I am simply pointing out that the others heal faster than normal humans too, and therefore we cannot gauge the time at sea based on healing timescales for normal people.
-
RE: How Long Has Luffy Been Out to Sea?
No matter what it had to be more than twenty days just looking at the fact that Zoro's wounds from Mihawk are completely healed, as are his legs from when he almost chopped them off to escape wax man.
That's not to say that Roman's timeline based on the facts is faulty, it's to say that Oda probably didn't intend for people to look that sharply at his timeline of events, or that several of the ship voyages were very long.
The Usopp scene would be retarded if they were really only together for twenty days, as well. I mean if you can get all the way to Water 7 from Usopp's home island in like 30 days or whatever, and that's not even straight sailing, that's stopping at several islands and places along the way, then it's not that big a deal that Usopp is leaving the crew, he was barely a part of it anyway. The bond displayed between Luffy and Usopp implies that it is time honored.
Zoro does seem to have pretty impressive recuperative abilities (as well as the rest of the strawhats). I don't know many other people who can take a hit from Mr. 1 that can dice a building and still live…or for that matter get cut by Ohm's iron cloud, take several point blank strikes of Eneru's lightning, and not be permanently debilitated. This is fiction we are talking about, so I think we can make some allowances for the time it takes to heal.
And despite the fact that the time that Roman has supported is surprisingly short, I don't think that 20 days is an insignificant amount of time. I can imagine how having such an eventful trip packed into a month could form such close bonds between the SH.

RE: Chapter 403 "Mr. Chivalry" Discussion
That´s actually what gets me wondering about the ability. I mean if it really is glass, porcelain or anything like it then he shouldn´t be able to stay in one piece at all. I mean if this would be Aokiji who he was fighting and he would be frozen then he wouldn´t have remained in tact after all, now would he.
Right now I´m more curious then ever what the fruit is and what the abilities of it are.
Plastic perhaps? I always wanted a life size Sanji action figure.

RE: Chapter 403 "Mr. Chivalry" Discussion
Sanji is still able to move so it has to be something flexible… maybe jelly,or another kind of Gum Fruit?
I hope the Translation helps with this.Yeah, that and the fact that he did not shatter upon impact confuses me. But then I also wonder was he physically transformed into something? Or is he being coated in something? or is it something else entirely that I am missing?

RE: Chapter 403 "Mr. Chivalry" Discussion
Glas eh? Well that makes me even more wonder how that DF ability works if it truly is a glas ability.
Thanks for the responses guys. It really makes sense now looking at it as a shining effect.
But the question is really what did she do to him?
I am also curious how she managed to "coat" Sanji entriely in that shiny stuff. My first impression was that Sanji had been turned into some sort of porcelain doll, but I doubt that that is the case. Just speculating but I was thinking that it might be that Calipha has semi-logia powers similar to what Mr. 3 can do.

RE: About Usopp's Sharpshooting…
In my opinion, I feel like Van Auger hasn't shown us much except that he is extremely accurate at ludicrous distances. I doubt that Usopp can currently snipe at this level, simply because he can't put up that distance right now, but then again I don't think this says anything about how Usopp would fair against Van Auger. I have yet to see much of anything about Van Auger's innovation and adaption. If Usopp were to disarm him, how would Van Auger handle himself? Usopp's a very versatile character, able to think on the fly, and able to pull off some amazing things. However, I don't doubt that if Usopp were to fight Van Auger, he would have trouble with the disparities of their range. It would be an interesting fight, to say the least.
