I like the new design, thanks guys for the hard work!
On the Japanese aid from the US, I've been watching the CNN live stream and they're saying that the Japanese government hasn't asked for help yet. This is due to the fact that the vessels would have to be accommodated, and they might be more trouble at this point. So NHK has reported that they want the help right now?
Steven, on USTREAM I notice store shelves are being cleaned. Is there looting? Or are the owners giving away supplies for free?
Here's a link to an english stream on USTREAM via NHK world:

Greg: It's nice to see you're okay.
Kaku didn't join, I mean, he was in the OP and everything.
OH MAN, CORIBOU ISN'T A MEASURING STICK, BUT RATHER A NEW VILLAIN
AWESOME
Great news for us Coribou fans, he's a logia too, cool
So, the Straw Hat belonged to Gol D Roger and then went to Shanks, and now to Luffy, awesome, I think I heard a prediction of that sometime before.
D'oh, nevermind, Coribou is gonna be a measuring stick after all ;_;
Are you sure he might not be an ally in the end? Isn't this how all arch's work in OP usually? The villain we first meet are usually friends e.g., Franky Family, Duval and the like.
Such a shame, I'll make sure to also keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
This chapter was awesome and worth the wait. Reading this made me think of the saying: It takes a long time to grow old friends.
Voted Magellan because I want WB to win the Tournament. Sorry Luffy fans. :(
I'm looking forward to the older Luffy!
And I don't care that in other series time-skips generally degraded the show. This is Oda we are talking about.
I wonder though how the Marines will change in two years, and what the new world will be like.
How is Brook an example? The only example of someone joining after the arc they started in was Robin, and she at least was still in the same saga, and had basically all her first defining moments in the arc she joined in
I meant in his relationship with Laboon, a character the SH's has already met. Basically, I'm basing my statement on a trend in adventure stories where crew or party members come together, I'm thinking video games here, which may or may not be a good idea, lol, it happens up to a certain point with characters who each have a relatively unique background. Then, later in the story as the narrative nears the conclusion, characters who join tend to be already people established in the story, or have some connection to the main cast. I'm actually at a lost for examples here. But generally speaking, it's the mark of a good story in which details from the past pop-up in the future, the fact that aforementioned details are even details in the first place. This means that the story is carefully thought out, such as, event/item A leads to event/item B, with B not being possible without A.
I think One Piece is at the point, maybe, narrative wise, where it's getting heavily saturated. Oda has a lot of details to draw from, rather than Oda thinking up of a total new biography for a character and start from scratch with his or her relationship with the crew. By drawing with details from the past, it becomes easier to make characters actions more reasonable rather than come up with something totally new. I think the "new" sort of behavior happens when a work of fiction is reaching it's climax, since there's more room in the story to fit in details, and as it goes on, to make the story tighter and more cohesive the details become more intertwined and nuanced, and the work becomes more interesting as a result. This also has the added bonus of making the work more rhetorical, and it becomes easier to get a member into the crew. But then if it's "too easy", it may not be interesting.
Guys, c'mon don't bet your accounts over stuff like this. Actually, it's probably not a good idea to bet your accounts at all. :/
Perona joining would be a curveball at best, but these recent episodes with the strawhat training montage makes me feel like that the next two members will be people we already have seen, or at least have some connection to the SH's, so that it's easier to build a repetoir with the crew. Brook is a good example of this.
Examples might be:
Sabo
A relative of Jaguar D. Saul.
Someone who knows Hacchan/Jinbei on Fishman Island.
Someone who has a bone to pick with the SH crew and does a face turn.
Bonnie-Chan!!!
This is a vote for eternal friendship!
Does anyone else get the impression that Jewelry Bonney is supposed to be Jubilee Bonney?
I thought it would be a better romanization, I know that Oda already wrote it all out, but I thought it sounded better.
EDIT: After rereading that, I made myself sound like I knew better than the author. :/
@Monkey:
If Sabo is still alive, the most important explanation for me is to know why he didn't show up to help his brother while he was executed. Oda should realy have a good explanation for this.
I seriously hope it isn't an amnesia excuse.
I liked the idea about Luffy's mom being Vega Punk. But throughout the series it's always been "man" and "he", too bad. Firecrouch was great as always, lol.
I agree with Del's assumption:
@Del:
Aokiji makes the most sense. But it's strange for Oda to nearly-confirm it previously, instead of doing a twist…
I thought about Akainu definitely since he had the most effect on the war, but Zik brought up a good point.
@Zik:
It really just takes him out of the game. The Fleet Admiral doesn't go out and catch the threats. They're busy making the strategic decisions for the marines.
For Akainu to be a threat he has to be able to run around and hunt people down, being Fleet Admiral would remove this and I think undermine his purpose as an antagonist. Unless Oda, makes him the sort of behind the scene character, but he isn't like that. He showed some of that in the past at O'hara, but he was very hands on character, literally, during the war.
Also, Akainu again could be one depending on how Oda paces the second half of the series. But it would be a shame if we don't see Akainu or any of the marines until near the end. And the recent development with Akainu running around for BB is also a stroke against this.
So this leads me to:
@paranoiks:
… keep in mind that it is not sengoku who decides who will take his position and maybe WG want to try another type of politics the one of kizaru or sakazuki's
Kizaru could be a real option, and since he doesn't make decisions it would be everyone to themselves. Akainu would be free to be himself, as well as Aokiji. But I don't see the Gorousei choosing him because of his personality, and it doesn't add tension to the story.
The only other person I could think of is Spandam. Can he be the fleet admiral?
By this image:
!
Technically, he is around the same level as an Admiral being the leader of CP9. And the character is sort of behind the scenes, but … it's Spanda, it would be really ridiculous. It would definitely make the story more interesting, but I think Akainu would magma fist him the moment he sees him. It's a question mark, could they get along? And I don't think there's any way Spandam would get along with Garp and Sengoku there, it would be a farce, I don't think Spandam would survive a week.
As for a conservative guess, maybe Tsuru, since she is a strategist if it's not Aokoji.
I still have your releases guys! Sorry, it had to end this way.
Pants:
First, I’d like to address how you tried to separate Theory, Fanfiction, and Prediction via length. As long as the idea that is trying to be expressed in the text is present, the length shouldn’t matter. It’s like trying to say that the difference between the them and the idea they are trying to convey is the same difference between, a chapter of One Piece and a Volume of One Piece, that is obviously not the case.
On theory you noted the word “proof”, I suppose you are alluding to a “set of facts”. However, those set of facts that you are referring to has to come from somewhere, in this case a work of fiction, One Piece. So the theory that is provided still has it’s subject as a work of fiction. And inevitably is going to be a kind of fanfiction.
Also, when you said:
with no backing beyond the creator's fantasy.
I think that the creators fantasy is self evident, or else we can’t discuss it. Like, to say: “Garp is a woman” of course at this present time would be ridiculous. But we can say that for One Piece to make sense we have to have a body of knowledge to rely upon to make sense of it in the first place. Rather, I think we could never not make a statement about One Piece when talking about it, if that makes sense.
On the last paragraph you addressed that if he had stated this:
"Perona's backstory might be that she's a noble because of her crown"
To be honest, he included many other ideas about Moria and why he did what he did what he did. And I think your complaint is not necessary what he said but about how he said was supported. If this is so, then it becomes a question of rhetoric and whether or not you were convinced at what he said. But simply because you were not convinced doesn’t change what kind of statement was made. It’s like saying a bad duck is a mouse and only good ducks are ducks. If we change the words: A bad theory is a fanfic and only good fanfics are theories.
And as I was writing this, notice how you and Kishido came to the conclusion that it doesn’t matter because most of them are bad, regardless of what they were, theory, prediction, whatever. The word became irrelevant, and the only thing that mattered was a value judgement of what was “good” and “bad”.
What I’m trying to say is to really understand what we are saying so we don’t misuse words to unintentionally slander each other.
Also I wasn't sure about where to put the thread, because I didn't want to derail the crew mate discussion, at the same time I didn't want to post it in One Piece general, outside the manga forums, just in case someone might get spoiled in the character thread or anything we discuss here.
@Sea:
I admit that Robin had a nice character development there, which is why I still enjoyed her part. But it doesn't change the fact that this development is predictable. And, Nami's part gave us something to get excited about: the weather ball and its destructive power, same for Usopp's part, gave us something to get curious about: the pop greens. These two thing are new to us, thus attract interest. While Robin's part gave us no clue how she will get stronger, no new direction about it (she will get stronger with Dragon and everyone knew this). By the definition of "interesting", I rank her part the least interesting. However, I took back the weakest part, for it is too general.
I found Robin’s part to be the most eye-opening development she has had in a long time. This chapter showed some substantial side effect of her past. It makes her more interesting for me, more human than say if she got some new power up, a “ball” or a “pop green”. Power-ups are superficial, they are not what makes characters compelling. Robin up to Enies Lobby, and a little bit less afterwards, was one of the most unbelievable characters for me. Someone with her childhood I thought would have more problems getting along with people, and this was the first time I saw that her past had an everyday affect on her. I went: aha, she wasn’t necessarily normal, and had a difficult time trusting others, but look at how much she trusted and loved her crewmates. The scene all in all gave me a better understanding of how powerful her commitment was to the SH’s.
I’m writing this post to address the conception people have with the word “theory” and “fanfiction” that recently came up in the Nakamate vol. 5 thread. The point I’m making is that there is no difference between that two as it relates to this message board and the subject it’s being applied to, that is, the One Piece manga. If you look at the definition of the word theory, and I’m not going to pick one out since which one is used will depend largely on what’s being said and how the word is being used.
Whatever theory is raised will still be related to a body of knowledge, a subject if you will. In this case, it’s One Piece, a work of fiction. Even if the word theory is used appropriately in its strictest sense, it still applies to a made-up series of events, One Piece. The word “theory” can never escape beyond it’s subject which is fiction. This means that a theory on this board is a kind of fanfiction. And I think we all have a general idea, which is good enough, of what fanfiction is.
The problem I see in the Nakamate thread is that “fanfiction” seems to have this derogatory connotation in this community. The word “theory” and “fanfiction” mean the same thing when it’s used in this forum, and I blame this somewhat on thread titles such “Theories that Don’t Deserve Their Own Thread” and “Dumb Predictions”. I haven’t addressed prediction yet but it’s being used in the same way as theory and fanfiction, and I won’t get into the dry details of their relationship as that’s outside the scope of this post.
Take for example:
Incorrect -
That is good. –-> That is theory.
That is bad. ----> That is fanfiction.
It should be:
That is good fanfiction
That is bad fanfiction
or
That is a good theory
That is a bad theory
Now, why is this? I’m pretty sure it stems from us trying to make what we are doing here more than it is. We are using our imaginations in relation to a work of fiction that we love for enjoyment. Nothing more intellectual than that, and it doesn’t need to be more. The manga is about someone and his friends trying to reach their dreams, and that is good enough. And if you think about it, that is more than good enough.
A Perona theory for a change. A very long shot for fun.
Perona is a noble.
Perona has always been seen wearing a crown. As far back as 10 years ago when she was still a little girl. She's known as the ghost princess.
She said she joined Moria by distraction. A 6 or 7 year old girl doesn't just end up on Moria' ship if there's not some story behind it…...
I don't see why people are giving Connard hassle for this. It's quite possible, but the problem is so are countless other explanations, including none at all, if Perona doesn't join. The most important point made was that Perona was sent to the island for a reason by Oda. That question is a good a place to start.
Yeah, a non-competition for me. Smokey all the way.
Usopp's speech really moved me. Man I love that guy. ;_;
I'm not feeling Vivi as the last crewmember, for one Carue counts as a tripulant as well, then we're set, no fishman, no strong martial arts oriented female, no logia still strugling to understand it's fruit's powers.
I don't mean to be rude but the latter sounds like fanboy wish fulfillment. I know this because I was salivating at the mouth when you listed them out like that.
@THE:
Hell yeah son. You know it.

I don't like Enel but the fro is awesome.
Voted for Hancock, Zoro will have his day in the sun soon!
@Sea:
This thread isn't about this test alone.
Well, I wonder about perfection and uniqueness. If you strive to become a better you, what will you be in the according your goal? A better you, or a best you, will it mean you lose you uniqueness? Is unique immature somehow? If all successfully reach perfect maturity, does that mean they become less unique?
Kierkegaard, theistic existentialism, has something to say about someone trying to achieve individual authenticity.
He states that there are three stages of existence, the aesthetic, the ethical and the religious. Someone in the aesthetic stage keeps going from one interest to the next. They don't have to be physical interests, it could be someone living their life along different philosophies. A person in this mode of existence would think that "boredom is the root of all evil." or "I have interesting moments therefore I am." A person in this stage makes no commitments, he is afraid of them.
Enter the second stage of existence, the ethical. A person gets to this stage when he realizes that having lots of interests isn't enough. He or she wants something to be committed to. According to Kierkegaard, passion is important in this stage, it's not a fleeting passion mind you, it's something that is the core of the person, something they dedicate their life to. An example given in the text:
"He is a university man, husband and father, an uncommonly competent civil functionary even, a respectable father, very gentle to his wife and carefulness itself with respect to his children. And a Christian? Well, yes he is that too after a sort." (The Sickness unto Death in Fear and Trembling and The Sickness unto Death) trans. Walter Rowe 1968
The problem with this is that description could be anyone. Therein Kiekegaard states that someone who is morally inclined can't be a complete individual because they are comparing themselves to everyone else. And that an ethically inclined person would be someone who knows most about their own ethical shortcomings. This knowledge of ones own ethical inadequacy thus leads to despair. The only way to escape this problem is the next stage.
The religious stage of existence is when someone encounters the "Living God". I take the Living God to mean the God that is with us day to day on Earth. Someone in the religious sphere gives up the search for individuality in some respects because they become open to God's initiative in things they can't control. And they juxtapose themselves to God in the search for selfhood, because God is infinite, a person can achieve true authenticity. Compare this to the ethical stage where a person is comparing themselves to other finite persons, they will not be able to achieve authenticity that way. The person in the religious state of existence no longer judges themselves by the norms of their society, but through the infinite God. Again, by placing oneself in front of God, they can achieve true individuality.
These are not my own thoughts, they're notes from the textbook I was reading. Also, really on Hedonism the quiz site needs to be more specific. The problem is when most people think of Hedonism they think of excess, but it was a philosophical doctorine based in ethics. This is epicurean hedonism, which I think is the one the quiz focused on, another kind of hedonism gets applied to the earlier form of utilitarianism by Jeremy Bentham. In Epicurean Hedonism a person did what was necessary to live a good life, "good" being the same as pleasure. Someone of this vein would avoid overeating or drinking too much because they would lead to pain at a later time.
Personally, I'm still trying to understand myself so I can't give a full answer. Maybe 20 years from now, when One Piece ends, check back with me.
EDIT:
To be honest, I feel like I'm running away form the question. In truth I think Kierkegaard was right, but I haven't read the primary source material. And what I mean by "right" is that I think it's hitting something important, or rather, there is something truthful in what he says as I've seen and still see the aesthetic stage in my own life. I need to read more to answer this question. But looking in myself I can honestly say that one needs to believe in God in order to not fall into despair.
I voted the people who might have the most info on DVD's. Like Clarine Harpp. And I was wondering if there was a way to get streaming One Piece Voyages on Netflix. That might be a Netflix question though. ^_^;;

There's been some pushover matches lately.

No the best was this.

I looked up the guy, I kinda feel sorry for him. That was the last post he ever made.
Ahh well, sorry for the OT remark.
When ever someone says "D" and "Danger" I'm reminded of Tekkaman Blade:
!
"Voltekka!!!"
And if I could have something from the One Piece world I would want one of Sanji's Pirate Bento.
But I would feel that's a waste. Really if there is something I could have, I would want a vivre card telling me where Luffy and the SH's are so no matter what I'm doing in this world I know where to go if I want to go on an adventure. ;_;
Nope, I wouldn't, but that's because I've stopped watching cable for a long time. I wouldn't mind though subscribing to a service that puts all dubbed OP episodes on it. I liked the start of the dubbed series from what I watched on One Piece Official, but I've become spoiled of watching what I want right then and there.
But honestly, I'm not the kind of fan who buys a lot of merchandise so it may be moot me answering anyway.
One Piece is strange though for a shonen series. You have to watch it first, and a lot of people get away from it because of how strange and silly it looks. It has a high mental barrier to entry. It's like one of those things that you don't know how good it is until you've seen some of it. That and a few of my friends when I talk to them about OP they tell me "Is that thing still going on?".
I'm inclined to say that the situation is what it is, and it's probably better off left that way.
EDIT:
I say that in the end, but I really hope that you guys keep it up. And that maybe the next generation of Anime fans outside of Japan turn the situation into something more positive.
^ Lucky Roo is one of Shanks crew members, and that's why I'm voting for him. Anyone who Shanks considers a buddy can't be a bad guy.
I've been watching the dubs on Onepieceofficial.com and the VA of Buggy is growing on me. Lol
I don't like Enel, but then I don't like Kid either – I shouldn't have voted at all.
Fisher Tiger's daughter.
Sad flashback involving her father.
Relations with Jinbei. Hachi and Arlong childhood friends.
Quirky personality.

Curse you, now whoever joins, my heart will yearn for what never was. ;_;
I have a feeling any fight Akainu is in will get graphic. I mean, you can't really block magma unless you have haki.
Phew, this is a hard one. But I chose the tsundere Mr. 1. Go Supa, Supa, he's actually a teddy bear inside, just a giant walrus, who turns himself into steel.
Shiki for me, guy wasn't afraid to get what he wanted done.
After watching the recent episode. I have to vote for Marco! Sorry Dragon, maybe in two or three years when your arc comes up.
