I use to believe the Electoral College was an antique system that needed to be dealt away with and go to "1 Man 1 Vote" style of system. But this is the first time I ever really took a genuine interest in politics and the first time I actually looked at the make-up of the country itself…and I have to say. I was dead fucking wrong, I was 100% retarded for thinking the Electoral College was a system we didn't need.
Is it a perfect system? No, and we can work to improve it. But in no way do we need to get rid of it. On the contrary, the Electoral College is essential for us to be a working country.
California issues =/= Utah issues =/= Michigan issues =/= New York issues. Half of the US population lives in metropolitan cities and mega-counties. If we dealt away with the electoral college then these places will be deciding the president every single cycle due to population size alone. Presidential candidates would spend ages in these giant cities to pander for millions of votes and never really go to smaller places. Why would you waste time, energy, and resources going to a farming community for hundreds or thousands of votes when you can go to LA or NYC for millions?
The Electoral College allows smaller pop states to have their opinions and needs heard and forces presidential candidates to spread out to other places and hear these concerns. The tyranny of the majority is a real thing that can happen if we dissolved the Electoral College.
