RE: Chapter 958: The Promised Port
@krule274:
Every time there's a break, regardless of how exciting the most recent chapter was or not, it just reminds me how much I fucking love One Piece and can't wait for the next release.
Yep! So glad OP is returning this week. Keeps me alive during office hours in front of my laptop haha.

RE: Chapter 958: The Promised Port
I love Soccer and One Piece. And i want to say that a One Piece Break and a Soccer Club Break on the same week should be illegal.
Completely agree with you. International week is always a dread. No one is really interested in that other than the World Cup.
I've always hope Kanjuro is the spy cause he seemed soooo shitty and useless. But like what funebre said, it would be cool if he was actually a master painter but he has been acting shit all this while.

Hi just coming here to say it's a boring week without spoilers and a chapter to look forward to. =(

RE: Chapter 939: The Old Leopard Never Forgets the Way
Comparisons time! Plenty of translation differences this week, especially in the first half of the chapter.
- For the chapter title: Jaimini's Box noted that it's a pun on a proverb, and tried to make it work in English with "An Old Hyourse Knows the Way", while noting that the "horse" kanji was changed to "leopard" (hyou). Mangastream just went with "An Old Leopard's Claws are Always Sharp". VIZ ends up doing a combination of the two, with "The Old Leopard Never Forgets the Way".
- In MS, Hiyori states that "it was said that" strong, kind samurai from the outside world would come to aid the Kozuki clan during the time of their resurgence. This is incorrect; in JB and VIZ, she instead states that she took notice of Zoro (as in, thought maybe he could be connected to her brother) because he's a strong and kind-hearted foreign samurai who appeared in the country at the same time that rumors were going around about the Kozuki Clan's return.
- In both of the scanlations, after Hiyori brings up the possibility that Zoro is actually an enemy of Momonosuke's who is trying to track him down, Zoro insists that he is a friend/ally, and repeats this to emphasize it. In the official translation, he says "No, I'm on his side. I can tell you that much.", making it sound like he's not sure what to tell her or not.
- This one's a bit interesting: in the scanlations, Hiyori states that Toko is one of the few friends who knows "who I truly am"(MS)/"the truth"(JB), implying that she's talking about her real identity. In the official version, she says "my true nature" here, which seems to imply that she's talking about her personality as well as her identity (so this version implies to me that Hiyori's attitude we're seeing here is not an act, or at least if it is, Toko's in on it). Also, while in the scanlations she states that Toko's cheerfulness has "saved me more times than I can count"(MS)/"helped me to push forward"(JB), in the official version, she says it "helps me get through the day" (possibly referencing how hard Hiyorisaki's job must have been sometimes?).
- In JB, Hiyori states that she was even younger than Toko is now on "that day" (suggesting Toko is older than 6). MS is vague, with Hiyori saying she was a young child just like her. In VIZ, she says that she was "as young as [Toko] is now", suggesting that Toko is 6 years old. Also, JB has Hiyori state that Momonosuke "promised to return in 20 years" (as in, directly promised her this), which seems inaccurate given how surprised they all were at first when they realized that they had forward time-traveled. MS and VIZ have her say that there were "rumors"/"the idea" that he would come back at that time.
- The scanlations have Zoro say that one sibling being sent in time and not the other is "tough" (to deal with, that is). In the official, he states that it's "cruel". Then, when Hiyori talks about how Kawamatsu patiently supported and cared for her, there's an extra sentence in the official where she states "He raised me from childhood"; when she talks about him helping her escape the castle in the moat, she doesn't say the part about him digging a tunnel/hole like she does in the scans; and she just says that he would cheer her up "when I refused to talk", rather than stating she'd outright been mute since that day.
- In MS, Hiyori just refers to Inuarashi and Nekomamushi as "Inu and Neko", whereas in JB and VIZ, she calls them the "doggy and kitty" (which makes sense considering how young she was when she would have last seen them). Also in MS, she says "Wait!" instead of "What?!" or "Really?!" in response to finding this out, and asks if they're alive rather than clearly reacting to what Zoro's told her.
- The ship-related analogy Zoro uses when deciding to stop thinking about all the problems the alliance is having is a little different in each version. He says "Too many captains'll sink the ship" in MS; "We may have more boatmen now, but our boat definitely isn't moving like we want it to" in JB, and "We don't need every last guy trying to steer the ship at the same time" in VIZ. Also, in the scanlations, Hiyori thinks maybe it's best not to meet them until after the battle so she doesn't disturb their plans, while in the official translation, the reason she gives is that "It wouldn't be right to throw cold water on a warrior's fight."
- In MS, the official who tells passersby to look at the Prisoners' Quarters states that he's surprised this many traitors would "fit inside" (the cell). In JB he just is surprised that "there were this many", and in VIZ, says he never expected that they "would arrest so many at once". Also, in JB he says that "more are being thrown in", while in MS and VIZ, states that there are still "more to come".
- Madilloman calls his defense against Luffy's "punch" "Armidi-guard" in the scans and "Arma-Defense" in the official version.
- Hyou states in the official translation that the "power"/"ability" that can be infused with the blade is "invisible". Also, as others have pointed out, Hyou says something different about his knowledge of it in the official vs in the scanlations: in the latter, he states that he learned the technique a long time ago (and the original versions of both MS and JB had him saying something else that was even more incorrect), whereas in VIZ, Hyo states that he "was known as the Mighty Blade in the past".
Thanks so much for the clarifications! I've always enjoyed reading them every week.
Just to check, is the official version always the correct one which makes JB and MS off in translation? I've always been reading JB and I found it them to be quite good.

RE: Chapter 923: Emperor Kaidou VS Luffy
Awesome Chapter! Now let us await the zoro rescue party! =DDDD
-
RE: Chapter 919: The Ruins of Oden Castle
Zoro?!?!?! Where did you run off to now??? =/
-
RE: Chapter 918: Luffytaro Repays the Favor
Do you guys think Jack is stronger than Katakuri? I don't think so and I don't think it's going to be a 2v1 or 3v1 against Jack. It would definitely make the strawhats look weak and it also doesn't bode well for a future pirate king.

RE: Chapter 907: The Empty Throne
Great juxtoposition between Donquixote Mjosguard and Donquixote Doflamingo. One sees himself as a god and would not change his ways no matter how much of the world he saw, one only saw part of the world and elected to change himself.
Goes to show it's about who you are and your decision, not what your blood is.
Wow thanks for opening my eyes. Oda is truly a genius, showing all these in different ways.
BTW at the helm of the celestial dragons are the 5 elder stars. So the 5 elder stars > celestial dragons? I'm abit confused.

RE: Chapter 901: Even If You Die, Don't Die!!!
Thanks so muchchchchchchchchcch

RE: Chapter 900: Bad End Musical (Break)
Maybe its time for the straw hats to get a new ship? I'm not sure if it's only me but I felt that the Thousand Sunny lasted so short compared to the Going Merry.
However I did my research on both ships and this is their duration:
Going Merry: Chapter 41 to 430 (389 Chapters + Chapter 41 itself = 390 Chapters)
Thousand Sunny: Chapter 436 to Chapter 900 (464 Chapters + Chapter 436 itself = 465 Chapters)
So the Thousand Sunny has actually lasted longer than the Going Merry already. Maybe it is time for a new ship, at least the size of a Navy Warship probably? -
RE: Chapter 895: Pirate Luffy vs. Sweet Commander Katakuri
I'm pretty sure that the fight hasn't ended yet.
-
RE: Chapter 892: Acknowledging a Strong Enemy
Yeah, I hate this new schedule as well. I need spoilers/ chapter on Wednesday/ Thursday, to lift my spirit mid through the week… I don't need in on a Friday/ Saturday when I'm happy already.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! The week of a working adult is tough and a mid-week Wednesday spoiler would do us great followed by the chapter release on Thursday.

RE: Chapter 891: Believing in me
Wohoho! I've been camping here all day for this! Finally. Just typing cause i'll probably end up first! =D

RE: Chapter 890: Big Mom on Top of the Ship
I quite like this chapter, action was pretty good! Glad to see that the straw hats aren't so helpless/hopeless as we all thought them to be the moment BM got on the ship. Good to see the Jimbei is also strong, I think it is safe to assume he is the strongest fishman and therefore he shouldn't be so weak. He can't defeat BM alone but at least he can put up a good fight and cause some damage. The strawhats, as someone already mentioned are using everything to their advantage, like water against fire, soul against soul and using BM attack's against herself. Its clear that individually they aren't able to match her but at least as a team they can hold her off. I don't get it when people think that BM is weak, this is the future pirate king's crew and they might not be at their strongest now but at least they should be able to hold her off.
Not sure if BM being hungry and skinnier than normal has an effect on her power level but that flaming witch look really looks dam cool.

RE: Chapter 883: Snack Time
So, why katakuri cant "see" luffy's attack now? What's the secret that luffy understand from katakuri's power?
Good question, I'm also very interested to know what's katakuri's weakness.
-
RE: Chapter 880: Chance of escape 0%
Hmmm if im not wrong one of the crew mates went to refill the colas right? They could just coup de burst out of there again.
-
RE: Chapter 878: Mink Tribe, Guardian Chief Pedro
Has the chapter released days been changed? Normally it should be out by yesterday but it still isn't out yet. Just wondering if it has been changed, anyone?
-
RE: Chapter 842: The Power of Fullness
Yeah and? It's still an extremely lame way to end that fight. Doesn't help that Cracker jumped right into the attack.
Then how would you like the fight to have ended? It seems like you're the only one, if not one of the insignificant minorities that have a problem with the ending. I really enjoyed the chapter and the whole fight.

RE: Gear 4th
I honestly just wished he would have fire just like how he did his Red-Hawk. I just want the idea of Ace being incorporated into Luffy through the passing of the Will of D.

RE: Most Disappointing Thing in One Piece
Watching the current anime episodes right now continue to further my stance that the war arc is really stupid. I'm not sure if you guys feel the same way but it makes good characters look stupid, not in their strength physically but in terms of using their brain.
I feel that when akainu was using his meteor shower on the pirates trapped in the encircling wall, someone should attack akainu to prevent him for using his attack. Even after he did WB could have just attack the meteors from the sky but didnt and instead let his crew got busted. Abit too stupid dont you think?
Luffy was another victim of stupidity too! When they were charging into the plaza later on through the way that oars created, the marines were firing cannons at the pirates. Luffy should have attempted to use his fuusen to repel those canon balls but instead got busted till he fell into the sea.
ITs quite disappointing to see how Ace can die with such strong back-up and how good characters can be ruined in different scenes.
Just my opinion of the war so far, its exciting yet disappointing too.

RE: Most Disappointing Thing in One Piece
for me, the most disappointing thing was the fact Shanks lost his arm to that damned sea monster, I mean come one~
It wasn't even a Kaiouryuu~~~~ lolz ^^^ that just makes Shanks lame. [][/quote]
HAhaha at least that was before the present story line when Shanks was still unknown, we could still accept the fact that he lost an arm cause we have yet to have an image of him with both arms in our minds yet.
On the other hand if Zoro lost an arm it would be pretty disappointing cause we have gotten used to him with 2 arms from the start right up till the 1st half of one piece which is rather very long. If he lost an arm it would be a sudden change that we would have to get used to and that would be really disappointing.

RE: Most Disappointing Thing in One Piece
have you ever read anything about wars or how things happen in it??
It is the most basic thing in any war that the leaders don't fight from the start but you
didn't notice that because you just wanted to see him to go like a stupid "as you described him".
and what do you think would've happened if he went fighting from the start.. well I can tell you
that the final result would've been much worst.as for his crew getting crushed well again it is also one of the basics of the war that you
can't save everyone so he's not gonna save everyone know will he?A word of advice: read the manga again!!
Blackbeard and his crew killed WB in just one page! WB should have at least used a named attack to defend himself, or at least used up all his energy in one last attack. No point saying sorry to his kids while not doing anything right?
You know WB powers right? He has ranged attacks which he could have used it from the start. Why destroy marineford so late into the war?

RE: Most Disappointing Thing in One Piece
Many things are disappointing in One Piece. I still remember afew of them and most of them came from the war.
1.The worst one was when Mihawk failed to cut the freaking piece of shit Jozu. Then subsequently Jozu got stopped by Doflamingo and got seemingly thrashed by Aokiji. This totally pulls the power level of Mihawk down.
2. Marco not being able to shoot flames from his body at the moment but just keep using his talons and physical strikes to damage the opponents. His ability to heal is very good but I'm sure there is a certain amount he can take before he get KO-ed instantly.
3. The war arc wasnt very detailed especially in the fighting scenes but just a touch and go from each character to character and from one scene to another scene. A brief scene on Mihawk, then ivankov, then whitebeard and then crocodile. The stupid WB refused to attack from the start but just stay there and watch his crews get crushed apart from the commanders. At the end he was stupidly killed by BlackBeard-.-

RE: Most Disappointing Thing in One Piece
@guess:
how moria powered up on marines shadows during marinford. shouldnt the marines who were exposed to sunlight have died and thus their shadows disappear too? thats how i understood the power to work anyway, moria needed the people to live on in order for the zombies to be able to fight. In fact his excitement of stealing shadows at the battle didnt make sense for the same reason. maybe he could use some prestolen shadows, but he really didnt have the time seeing as how he lost all his previous shadows in TB. in fact morias zombie aspect of his power seems pretty useless outside of the florian triangle, or during daytime.
I totally agree with you! I was abit stunned and I thought that the marines should have been burnt off by the sunlight.

RE: Semi-Finals Round Discussion Thread
I'm supporting Shanks but I think Bon will win =(.
-
RE: Whitebeard vs. Rayleigh
Why is whitebeard winning by so much? He didnt really left an impression on me. But Rayleigh on the other hand is just so awesome!
-
RE: Fifth Round Discussion Thread
Bon Kurei
Garp
Rayleigh
ShanksRayleigh and Shanks should win, thats the most important draw to me =)
-
RE: Garp vs. Hiriluk
Sorry Hiriluk but I have to vote for the man who wanted to kill the asshole Akainu!
-
RE: Mihawk vs Zoro
I used to like Mihawk alot until he got stopped by the stupid Jozu who got thrashed by Aokiji…. sigh.
But then again Zoro was my fav strawhat so I'll go with Zoro!
-
RE: Third Round Discussion Thread
Buggy is part of the Pirate King's crew so you are being a bit hypocritical.
Not hypocritical, I just totally forgot that buggy was on the Pirate King's crew!
-
RE: Third Round Discussion Thread
Shanks and Rayleigh will win! Vote for the Pirate King's crew mates!
-
RE: Filler Match - Just Die Already
Wohoho Sasgay is the worst!
-
RE: FIFA World Cup 2010 Thread
Yes please man! Bring in Video replay Technology! Tennis and even Badminton have it! So if soccer is to remain a world class sport they should have it too!
-
RE: Most Favorite Non-Mugiwara
I like Aokiji and Kuma. Their powers are so awesome in real life! Being able to keep cool when the weather is so dam hot, or being able to remove all the injuries and fatigue that you have accumulated over a day's work. At the same time you are able to attack anyone who tries to be funny with you =D
I like Marco, Shanks, Enel, Rayleigh and Croc cause they are pretty cool too!
-
RE: Chapter 580: "End of War" Discussion
Dont forget that Shanks has a crew and Mihawk doesnt. If the WG messes with Shanks he messes with the whole crew.
-
RE: Do the Devilfruits become less creative?
@Rue:
If you haven't noticed a lot of things are similar to our world.. just because a mole digs holes a dog cannot dig to hide his bones as well? You miss the point.. it's not about the uniqueness of the ability it's how each character use the ability. What really gives me pleasure .. is to see how character uses his ability, and bear in mind how would i use it if i had it. Just think about it for a while.. would you do what the characters do? Being a rubber-man does not say much.. the fact that luffy owns the ability and use it how as he does makes the ability good, if someone else on the series had luffy's ability it wouldn't guaranteed that he would use it the same way or that he would be that strong, he could just use it to hang from trees or doing any stupid thing crossed his mind.
Yes thats true an idiot will just use his rubber ability like that of Mr.Fantastic of the Fantastic 4 and get himself owned in the One Piece World.

RE: Chapter 574 "The Death of Portgas D. Ace" Discussion
I hate Akainu! I wish WB, Garp or Marco kills him!
-
RE: Chapter 574 "The Death of Portgas D. Ace" Discussion
People, now with Ace dying, do you think Bon Clay is still alive or dead?
-
RE: Chapter 574 "The Death of Portgas D. Ace" Discussion
Oh Luffy seems to have passed out.. Dont think there would be any new powered up modes.
I'm thinking maybe Ace could still be alive, but re-appear later on in the story to save someone or smth major?

RE: Chapter 569 "Monster" Discussion
The fact that Oda makes WB gives up just as Ace was about to be executed gives Luffy the chance to use that haki and show that he should be noted by the world government. If Oda doesn't make WB gives up then Luffy wouldn't need to do anything at all and his role in this battle is useless. So all this is actually just part of the Oda's script. And yes, Jozu's right arm broke! I hope Oda drawn it wrongly, but if you look closely, his arm broke. Hope it didn't break cause I kinda like him and I don't want him to be handicapped. Other than that we don't have to worry about him and Marco. Both of them would be alright. since both of them are First and third commanders, they should be around Rayleigh's level and should be stronger than the admirals if not they would be considered weak. Nvm Ace being 2nd commander, he is new and isn't as strong as them. Im sure Marco can remove the seastone from him and Jozu will break out from the ice.
Im sure WB won't die in this war. I think he will retire and rest somewhere out at sea. WB can't die, if he dies then one Yonkou will be down and if the Marines are smart, they can send the whole marine force to attack and kill the rest of the Yonkous and then all the other pirates in the world. Oh ya and no body in One piece dies! Oda sure has something nice for us. And come to think of it, it takes Sengoku and Garp to bring down Shiki and Shiki aint as strong as roger which means he is not as strong as WB too. Im sure the WB pirates will win this war and Oda sure has something nice for us! He just make the WB pirates losing at the moment to scare people like you and make your think the WB pirates are weak haha!
