RE: RWBY Dicscussion (RoosterTeeth)
I'm kinda surprised no one posted this yet.
I plead the fifth. e_e
Great fightings but I wonder about having it take place almost exclusively in the past. I mean, everyone sorta wanna know what's happening now right? :v -
RE: RWBY Dicscussion (RoosterTeeth)
So volume 5 will premier October 15 it seems, there's a picture to go with the date:

RE: Talk Religion And Be Nice About It
and nature worship is a part of many religions, past and present
They ascribe supernatural characteristics to them though.
maybe "energy" is seemingly supernatural to you,but what about human consciousness then?It is a very much real and poorly understood entity, and spirituality and religion both try to make sense of it.maybe they are wrong, maybe they are not.depends on specifics imo.
I'm not sure what you mean by "energy", but if you speak of energy as in, say, kinetic or thermal, then no, that doesn't seem supernatural at all to me. It's one of the fundamentals of the natural world.
Human consciousness is nothing but neurons communicating. Science is also trying to figure the brain out.but regardless as i said maybe it's all a big metaphor.I find concentrating on being literal about religion can be missing the point completely.
What is a metaphor for then? And what is the point?

RE: Talk Religion And Be Nice About It
Personally,i think it's a very reductionist way of going about things. All religion wouldn't become meaningless even if there was no tangible, cohesive entity called God,that isn't the only way how Gods are supposed to be understood.
Dunno about you, but I find it a good idea to establish the more basic facts first. The existence of a god being one such. If you prefer, it could be any supernatural thing though. Any religion claiming such a thing is wrong of course, but as I've said before I don't think that that makes the religion meaningless. There are lots of things I like about religion… But they are wrong and thus I dunno why anyone would bother with them. :p

RE: Talk Religion And Be Nice About It
@NER:
I know fully well that religion is not the only thing one can exploit to control the masses, but its been proven historically to be the best, if only because its something totally intangible.
How so? How do you even seperate religion from the culture at large? Even in a modern context it's not something I would wish even on my worst enemies(well, maybe I would if I had any). Let alone in a historical context.
There are historical and logical reasons for all of those points but personally I don't really feel like debating.
There most certainly are no logical reasons for any of those points. Females are equal to male and there is nothing wrong with homosexuality.
@NER:
Regarding whether or not I believe in God, I don't really know. The question of creation and how the world came to be is not one I think is that relevant, for example. And regarding God, I don't think one exists solely because I don't think we are important enough for a higher power to care about overseeing and judging us.
The question of creation and how the world came to be is highly relevant. Modern medicine have tight bonds with evolution. All of science is interconnected to a very high degree. And as an e-sporter I hope I don't have to debate you on the relevance of science? :P
As for gods existence, if god had existed and were of the omnipotent kind, overseeing us and judging us would be effortless for him. Myself, I don't believe that he exists because there is no proof to suggest that he does. It's the old flying teapot of Bertrand Russell, I'll quote him here because,I ought to call myself an agnostic; but, for all practical purposes, I am an atheist. I do not think the existence of the Christian God any more probable than the existence of the Gods of Olympus or Valhalla. To take another illustration: nobody can prove that there is not between the Earth and Mars a china teapot revolving in an elliptical orbit, but nobody thinks this sufficiently likely to be taken into account in practice. I think the Christian God just as unlikely.

RE: Talk Religion And Be Nice About It
@Monkey:
Religion is almost invariably ugly when it becomes a lockstep expected communal norm. And poor Ner lives in one of the absolute worst examples of that on the planet short of ISIS territory.
Sure, but what isn't ugly when it becomes a lockstep expected communal norm? And I do realize that Ner might have some real horrendous experiences with religion. I hope I didn't seem too dismissive of him or anything.

RE: Talk Religion And Be Nice About It
@NER:
Okay. I don't hate religion, because I believe everyone has one. A religion in my belief (Which changes more often than you think) is whatever a person believe in and depend on to give their lives validation.
A rather strange definition of religion I think, it sounds more like… Eh, "existensberättigande", what is the English word... "Raison d'être"? :silly: That is, "reason for being." Anyway, I don't have any of it, I need no meaning nor validation for my life.
With that being said, I must tell you what I think and feel towards Islam. I think its fake. It just makes sense that its not real. I went through many different phases, from being a Muslim, to being a skeptical one, into being a Muslim with very peculiar beliefs, and currently I am just a guy who wants to live (And do Esport events and cool stuff?)
I'm with you there, I believe the same for not only all religion but all supernatural things. And welcome to atheism I suppose? :)
Islam makes sense only in the sense that it was created to control people, gain political power, and wealth. It stayed alive because of two factors mainly: 1- People need something to believe in. 2- Leaders need to control said people.
And before you think my view is too shallow or simplistic, just be aware that when I talk of leaders seeking control and people needing a belief to fight for, they do not do it consciously. The leaders may very well believe in this religion they are controlling the masses through, thinking what they're doing is beneficial for all.I do think that your view is a bit simplistic. I'm sure the reasons you stated are a big part of religion but there are others that I believe are even more so. The good things religion brings, the good morals, helping others and such. A sense of community. Cool traditions and culture. Lots of stuff that is great.

RE: What Are You Listening To Right Now ? [V2]
I'm not as in love with the RWBY soundtracks as everyone else seems to be. I still listen them though 'cause they give you a feel for the characters (and it's not like I hate 'em.) Anywas, you reminded me I need to listen to the one from season 4.
Wlp, let the shipping wars begin. e_ e -
RE: DC Movies Thread - Shazam saves the day
If I remember, Hera tried to use one against Heracles, but Zeus stopped her.
The only instance of Hera attacking Herakles with thunderbolts that I could find is in the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys… Which, as you may know, is not the most reliable of sources. :P
The only other thing I can think of is that Hera did send storms after him at one point.
From theoi.com:
"Pseudo-Apollodorus, Bibliotheca 2. 137 (trans. Aldrich) (Greek mythographer C2nd A.D.) :
"As Herakles was sailing away from Troy [after sacking the city], Hera sent raging storms upon him [and his ship was forced to land at Kos, where he was almost killed]. Zeus was angered by her act and hung her from Olympos."" -
RE: DC Movies Thread - Shazam saves the day
Hera used one once.
She did? When was this? I know Athena used them at least once, when punishing Lesser Ajax after the Trojan Wars…

RE: What Are You Listening To Right Now ? [V2]
Going through all the TopPop(the channel) videos on youtube… Which is, I dunno, why, since I don't even like pop music. ._. Eh, at least it's just 1725 videos... .-.

RE: Thoughts on the last movie you watched.
Also the franchise I think has been off the rails since Aliens. I don't have the same reverence for that movie as a lot of other people and I think it moved too far away from what made the first movie great. The "franchise" has basically been one great movie and a bunch of decent movies so even if you think Prometheus and Covenant were worse there really wasn't much to ruin.
Sorta agree with you there. Although I'd place Aliens in the good category, in part because it did move away from Alien. Made it, like, its own film ya know. Basically my biggest problem with 3 and 4 is that they feel to much like an Alien/s.
Also what made Prometheus sorta decent, I really liked the new alien thingies. Covenant was also… sorta decent. It also suffers from what I think the biggest problem with Prometheus, the "aliens created life on earth" nonsense.
Although, I found Covenants biggest fault to be a couple of absolutely ridiculous fight-alien scenes.! I can't be the only one who though the fight scenes with the lil' aliens was ridiculous? Right? Like, in the first I was like, just stomp on that thing! e____e

@Medical:
Thinking rape is okay goes beyond "unpopular opinion" territory, it's straight up disgusting and terrible.
So, in summary, you're saying it's crimethink. Well, wish I could say I'm surprised but fascism is pretty popular these days.

RE: Mass Effect 4
Loving this so far.. glad the patch has helped the rendering already. Thoughts/opinions?
I really liked that they made the eyes a bit darker. The glow in the dark eyes were probably my biggest issue with the game actually, hahaha. -_-' If they also could make the characters less wide-eyed the entire time that'd be neat too. :v

Trying some multiplayer and just bough my first 50k pack… Got the ultra rare I wanted first try. @_@ It must be true what they say, if you ain't got skill you better have luck. :v

RE: Mass Effect 4
I've finally managed to get through the main story line and I'll stand by my initial impression of the game being great!
As far as the story go, hm, hard to say much about it without being too spoilery… But let me just say that it felt pretty, hm, unobtrusive? Dunno if that's the right word for it.
But it contrasts to, say, ME3s storyline which I pretty much had to ignore for it to make any good damn sense that Shepard should be doing all these side quests.
It felt more like the main quest helped to introduce you to the new environment of Heleus Cluster and perhaps the ME:A series as a whole. There were some negatives of course. I heard all the ado about the animation and I guess it was a little wonky at times but honestly it didn't take me out of the game for single moment. Maybe I'm more tolerant about it than most? @@?
My biggest problem, eh, annoyance, was probably the eyes. Like, everyone in the entire game(minus aliens), had these wide giant eyes constantly staring at me. You know that thing they do in animated stuff where the character are in a cave and the only thing you can see is the eyes? It was literally like that at times when my character were wearing her helmet. --'I also wasn't that happy with the character generator. The template characters had just a tad much, eh, character to them. Which would be fine, or good even, if it weren't for the fact that the generator is pretty limited so you are pretty much stuck with the templates.
But, in the end I managed to make a character I was satisfied with so I shouldn't complain. All I'll say is that it isn't as good as the one in DA:O.
Oh, right, here's a picture of my character.

Man, the scars suck though.e_e[/hide]
Any one else managed to make one they like? :) -
RE: Mass Effect 4
Been playing it for a… while... now. :v Love it so far. I get a real scifi-explorer feel out of it. Especially in one instance,

RE: Random News Article Discussion II
The more noteworthy parts of the text are about what means they have to go through to do that. Most noteably how the reporter, who was active on-site during the Iraq war, compares how similar the methods the Swedish police have to use to operate in Rinkeby at night, to the methods that the American forces had to use in occupied Bagdad.
Just because they use the same tactics doesn't mean the situation is the same at all. The comparison is a garbage attempt at making a nice headline. That's all there is to it. If you really believe that it's anything like the Iraq war… Send tanks then, not police cars and ambulances and the like. Yeah, no sure, there's something like the Iraq war going on outside my window. Ridiculous.
Which seems cozy and all, but when you read the text accompaying the pictures you realize that this picture is depicting the police finally showing up 1,5 weeks after they reported a robbery at that coffe shop, to take a statement.
Quoting the article,
"Vi går in på Yas kafé där det var inbrott 19 december."
"Han kom till Yas kafé en och en halv vecka efter inbrottet.
Då hade ännu ingen polis varit här."
Translation:
"We go into Yas café where a break in occurred December 19."
"He came to Yas café one and a half week after the break in.
No police had arrived before then."Going by the grammatical tense they held the interview at Yas café some time after the police had been there to take the report.
I'm sorry for derailing this and I might come off as a jerk: but how can you possible not be familiar with Aftonbladet?
I said I wasn't THAT familiar with it. I know what it is. Evening newspaper, left of Expressen, their sports section is on pink paper. I just haven't read it that much.

RE: Talk LGBT Issues And Be Nice About It
I feel a little as though I've wasted time replying to that guy in the American news thread.
Oh well.
I got good news though with some not so good ones.
That guy. -_-' Maybe you wasted your time, maybe something will get through. Who knows. But it's nice that you try anyways!
Good to hear about good news tough Nolus! Hopefully the months will pass quickly for you! :)
Also, I have a question I guess… Not to you specifically Nolus, but I was sorta wondering how common it is among trans men to do weight lifting and such? I mean, women who weight lift a lot do get a little more masculine in appearance, many of them having breast augmentation...

RE: American Politics thread: No Nazis Allowed
Bathrooms are based on sex, not gender identity r what you think a man/woman should look like.
Oh, I thought they were based on a hole in the ground where your poop and pee is supposed to go… Also, you are clueless. I'd suggest listening to the people in here that actually knows something about this issue.
Only thing I'll add to the discussion is that we have a lot of non-segregated bathrooms over here and they work fine, I prefer them honestly. Can't walk into the wrong one by mistake. :getlost: -
RE: Random News Article Discussion II
Aftonbladet, hu, I'm not that familiar with it but I'm gonna go ahead and guess it's somewhat like Expressen? Rather sensationalist that is?
Anyway, this article also doesn't state that there is such a thing as a no-go zone in Sweden. But provides some examples of the police going there and doing their job… Somewhat. I realize of course that there is organized crime over there and many inadequacies in the law enforcing.
Here, a picture for the international crowd, the unfortunate people who don't speak Swedish:
Police in a "no-go zone"… Having a "fika"(Coffee break) with the reporters? -

Swedish police continues to be unable, or unwilling, to enforce the law in Rinkeby.
You do realize that even the articles you linked to state that there are no no-go zones?
"The suburb is one of 15 areas listed by police as "particularly vulnerable" in a report from 2015, however police and other Swedish authorities have denied any existence of so-called "no-go zones"."
And from one of the locals: "If someone has an argument with their partner and the police are called, they're here straight away. But when this happens, they aren't." -

RE: Random News Article Discussion II
Read an article about "fake news" in Swedish paper, Dagens Nyheter, which was very interesting so I thought I should share it as it had an English translation and all. It's pretty long but if you don't mind that it's a story about the story of how some (NOT)Muslims desecrated a Swedish church by pooping and masturbating in it.
http://www.dn.se/nyheter/varlden/from-this-basement-came-a-piece-of-fake-news-about-who-had-desecrated-a-church-in-sweden/
EDIT: I should perhaps mention that there is some crude language in the article.

RE: What Are You Listening To Right Now ? [V2]
Sometimes. I don't know what the difference between NDW and just plain new wave is though. Also I wasn't looking for NDW bands when I found Andi Arroganti but minimal synthpop artists/groups.
Eh, NDW, is German? Also a little later and a little more heavy on the electronic bleeps and bloops I guess. @ _@?
I get the minimal synth part but, p-pop? Hahaha. :)Anyway, if you like synths there are lots of good stuff in NDW, like Der Plan:

RE: What Are You Listening To Right Now ? [V2]
Kind of reminds me of Nena.Man, Andi Arroganti is great. Love "Benzin in Berlin" and "Alle Leuten Fallen Um"! :) "Ich steh bis zu den Knien, in glänzendem Benzin" XD
Do you listen to a lot of NDW? I'll go ahead and recommend another one for you anyways, -

What they should do is have a woman play Trump. "We couldn't find a man with small enough hands to play him." …man, the jokes writes themselves. -_-'

RE: Your Most Recent Albums
Bought some new LPs and were so happy with them I had to share. :P
One is "weasels ripped my flesh" by Zappa, the other is less known "Roboterwerke" by Supersempfft. The Zappa one is a new release but the Supersempfft is never used so both of them played so good. I'm not used to non-used LPs. :v

A zygote don't develop into a baby on its own either. Sort of the point.

RE: RWBY Dicscussion (RoosterTeeth)
Also, having a regular member account (which is free) lets you watch the episode the day after First members get it. Still six days before the public release. Unless you really prefer Youtube, I see no reason to wait.
Oh, I didn't know that. Well, I'll probably cough up some monies anyway. Giving a little support and all.

Sweden is very very well known throughout the western world. If someone's heard of only one Nordic country, it tends to be Sweden.
Maybe, but whyyyyy though??? e_ e I'd get it if it were like in the 70's when we were nonsensically rich, but nowadays? @_@? I suspect foul play myself.

Also a heads up that next weeks video probably will be a backstory video about the great war.
