      @Cyclone_Baroness:

      Why was Aizawa irritating to you?

      Ag that point in time I was irritated by what I saw as Class A wanking, and he was the main deliverer of it.
      Also I felt as though he was being slightly overconfident to Ms.Joke (though she was also stumping for her class so it's all whatever).

      Urashima is pretty strong.
      Now the only question is whether he'll have a change of heart as the arc goes on or double down, as his status is gone completely now.
      Anyway's I liked the Great Sumo Fight, but it makes me wish One Piece art/storytelling was still at Oda's peak.
      It lessens the impact of Wano as a whole.

      I'm not the only one who hopes that. Not necessarily Deku having a latent power, but for the annoying dumbass to feel the pain. Depending on how he deals with it would make him more or less of a dumbass.

      If you think big things aren't happening for Shinso, you aren't paying attention.

      No Shinso is an important character, he's one of my go to examples when I argue for characters that are as prominent as Class A character A regardless of total screen time.
      Shinso memeing too me is his character being distilled to the Mineta replacer or the Mineta patroller.

      @CCC:

      How about
      -Endeavor beats High-End and dies immediately, choking on his own blood
      -Everyone's like woo Endeavor was so cool, praise be his name, what a downright decent man
      -No longer fearing violent retribution, Shoto and Rei hold a press conference and describe the years of abuse in detail, with doctor's records/X-rays ("No, Rei did not keep walking into doors"), evidence of payoffs and purchased silence, testimony about the forced marriage and eugenics efforts, etc. Natsuo backs them up.
      -Dabi is revealed to be a product of Endeavor's moral lacking. LoV hijacks the airwaves for 5 minutes so he can tell the world his side of the story.
      -Everyone's like wow that guy actually fucking sucked. Great that he saved Fukuoka from the monster, but yeeeesh hard to separate art from artist, y'know?
      -Heroes Public Safety Commission and related licensing agencies vow to have higher vetting standards for heroes going forward, when it comes to domestic violence and problematic personal lives. Society realizes that blind admiration of heroes isn't a good thing. Stain was partially right. League of Villains drives the wedge deeper. The doomsday clock ticks forward a bit towards chaos and collapse. Meaningful long-term implications.
      -These widespread changes force U.A. to reconsider their own standards for personal integrity; Mineta is immediately expelled on principle and replaced by Shinso in class 1-A

      What will probably happen:
      The first two bullet points, followed by "the Todoroki family thereby vowed to keep the patriarch's dark and violent secrets under wraps, for the good of society."

      I'm totally on board with Endeavor's abuse coming to light, until I see fans advocating to the irrational wish fulfilment "press conference" or some contrived public dissavowal, or headcanons members of the Todoroki family into things they've shown themselves not to be on multiple occasions.
      Also Endeavor is not dying, he hasn't even met Rei again or dealt with Shouto, he's going to have to live with the scars inflicted on him, and in recovery he'll have to struggle with weakness in a way he hasn't before (or has, in his inner weakness which he abused and used his family to cover for, as addressed in last week's chapter).
      Edit:Hopefully he loses his license and maybe faces prosecution though, but it's likely people will try to brush it under the rug and it's unlikely that he would submit to that.
      Edit: Shinso memeing is wack too

      @.access:

      Technically nothing wrong happened on this chapter, but I think we all have read enough manga to know where this is going.
      Shouto's mama is clearly going the route of redeeming Endeavor by exposing his good side. She will not simply forgive him for the sake of surpassing her past and moving on, she is going to make us like him by showing he is not a bad guy and how much he actually suffered doing all that and he is the one still suffering the most because all the guilt.

      I will be happily shocked if things are not going this way, but until then I will not refrain from relying on 30 years of experience reading questionable stories.

      All that flower moment did, was be a way for Horikoshi to confirm what should have been expected in my opinion, that at one point they had a "normal" relationship and that Endeavor didn't simply "buy" her.
      This arc is adding to Endeavor's humanization, which in part means exploring that backstory, including the courting period and then what got Rei to this point.
      It also show's that she's on his mind.
      I'll wait for more chapters to see how it's handled rather than nitpick everything.

      Look's like I was right about their relationship being positive at one point, it always seemed like a gradually getting worse as Endeavor's obsession greatens, sort of thing to me, not just a pack mule being bought and sold in truth or entirely, as was told by Todoroki.
      Anyway, Todoroki's mom has always seemed calm and introspective, so her reaction here is fine.
      If it's pure forgiveness, and not even a tiny bit of fear or hate when they meet, then there will be an issue.
      I've always liked the idea of his warmth being a comforting point when they were in their starting years, and then as it went on becoming all consuming/melting and a point of fear, so I would love a panel play in specifically on his fire in reference to his trauma.
      And as is known, and as people should have never worried about, Endeavor will be exposed for abuse and when that happens, I hope he backslides into some of his worse behavior (acting with indignation, rage, excuse responsibility), maybe not as a final resting point for him, but a slight relapse would feel realer.

      DID she forgive him? She mainly just remarked that he's at least trying to face the issues.

      People need to stop reading into this stuff, before it happens.
      Mamaroki just stated facts and shined a light on the early years of their relationship.
      There was no forgiveness in those panels.

      Yeah well, he also was a strong proponent of black supremacy and anti-integration, and he preached some pretty crazy shit like that white people were a race of devils who were created by an evil scientist.

      Basically, Malcolm X was to MLK what Magneto is to Professor X.

      Well, he also lived a troubled life and was roped into an ideology/supported by an organization that provided structure and a purpose, for many black men.
      These weren't views adopted in some vacuum, hinging on them as some "well," when they were in response to living in an actively hostile state and decades of oppression, doesn't really work to me.
      Plus, this ignores the breadth of his views and how his entire outlook shifted after this journey to Mecca, and his break with the NOI.

      Edit: He's flawed like any man, but as a whole I'd say his legacy and the message to be taken from his life, is positive.
      Edit2: I wouldn't consider X, to be the same as some random street preacher, yelling at people about Yakub and calling everyone devils, like those people on Yotuube, in 2018.

      @Cyclone_Baroness:

      I don't think we'd get a fluffy courtship flashback with Endeavor and his wife (does she have name?). It seemed pretty clear it was meant to be used as an example of why Quirk marriages are crappy and why Endeavor is insane. Definitely didn't seem to be a for love thing.

      I don't believe it would be fluffy, just seeing the start of it in a flashback, I can imagine an awkward Endeavor trying to express himself or her soothing him like she soothed Shouto.
      Todoroki claims he essentially bought his mother, but I wouldn't be surprised if he only had half of the truth, being a child.
      I've always imagined it as gradual degradation on Endeavor's part, so I personally would like it if they were loving at one point, would add more to the story to me.

      It's also wack, that a lot of the people totally opposed to his character arc, will just be like "gotcha" or see it as validation for their hatred, if Horikoshi pulls the rug out from under Endeavor, rather than appreciating it as a story development or the work that lead up to it.

      Anyway, I'm reserving judgment re: stuff that is obviously yet-to-come, but I can't think of many ways a redemption could be pulled off properly. It'd be a hard needle to thread.

      Yah pretty much.
      And I don't see the concept of redemption, I just see endeavor making choices and going in new directions, like any character should.
      As long as Horikoshi remains consistent with the trauma Endy caused, all should be fine.

      @Cyclone_Baroness:

      Pretty much what Boing said. Basically nobody knows about the Todoroki home life stuff. I feel that this arc could be the start of him getting either karma retribution for abusing his wife or he can start to redeem himself.

      Bakugou was really only terrible to Deku. He's a jerk in general but it's name calling and threats that he tends to not follow through on. Provisional license was a turning point in his mindset.

      But we've had other arcs focusing on stuff mostly unrelated to either of them. So this would be a good time to begin addressing at least Endeavor. He's either going to come out on top in this encounter or he's gonna get wrecked. Who knows where this could all lead though. Horikoshi isn't too predictable.

      Or he could come out on top to the public, and then try to get validation from Shotou, only to rejected as he was at the end of license exam, as Shouto's issue with him is in the treatment of him and his mother, not in villain fighting, which could lead to Endeavor relapsing in anger/negative behavior, which has been my headcanon, and even then after that he could still make improvement or get worse.
      Who knows?
      I've always believed we'd get a flashback to the courting days of his relationship with his wife, which I believe might have not been as Shouto told (child's perspective, but not that terrible theory that Endeavor wasn't really an absuer) and that there was actual love before he became abusive, so who knows when we'd get that Endy flashback and what the present circumstances around it would be.
      All I know, is I won't judge it until it's done, and that anyway it goes I just want Endeavor to be well written.

      I wouldn't mind him going rogue after his abuse is revealed to the public, and even having a villain arc.

      –- Update From New Post Merge ---

      @Nectar:

      I don't see Endeavor making it out MHA alive. At the very least he's getting the Iida's brother treatment.

      @TLC:

      So I guess, like Bakugo, Horikoshi expects us to forget that Endeavour is a horrible monster who has not earned any sort of redemption.

      Well, Bakugou at no point was a "monster," though yes, Horikoshi/the characters felate him far too much, and he's been let off the hook too easily for his bullying.
      Endeavor, on the other hand is in the middle of a character arc and anyone using the term "redemption" in either direction (whether they hate, or love Endeavor) are jumping the gun and are trying to preempt Horikoshi's writing.
      Why label it?
      Why ignore the fact that is abuse hasn't even been revealed to the public, that his heroics aren't the core of his issue with Shouto, and that he hasn't even been confronted with his wife yet?
      It seems more like there's a contingent of people who make catholic crosses at any attempt at character exploration for Endeavor, and are reading abuse apologism or whatever else they don't want to see, into the series where it isn't.

      @Jabberwok:

      I think I preferred the manga chapters a bit to the anime here. I't might be part of how it felt to wait between each of those chapters, but the pacing felt both more exciting and dramatic in the manga. The raid in particular felt like it switched back and forth between too fast and too slow.

      I also favor the manga's intro of AfO, if only because the anime had everything bvery dark and difficult to make out the exact destruction he'd wreaked. Everything else about it was great.

      Yah, the week to week weight really enhanced the arc too me.
      Everything feels like it's going to fast at this point, but then again I'm sure anime onlys love the jam packed episodes.
      I saw a review where they loved the pace, because it felt like constant hits and twists on unsure ground, which isn't necessarily how it felt in the manga.

      Do you guys think the anime intro for AFO surpassed the manga?
      I've seen people claiming that it conveyed fear where the manga hadnt, but I know for a fact that all of those things were felt and described at the time.
      The one thing I believe was better done, is Jeanist's binding.
      It and the music made it seem as though All For One was a demon being held back by some holy restraints/magic and broke free.
      But the rest I prefer in manga or like to an equal amount in the anime, down to the original face:
      https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8FvQV59exc8/WM-YlhbiFaI/AAAAAAAADTE/-BsinuIA4QQ1HcZVYdWei7ecQnckyQwxACLcB/s0/FA_MHA_88_19.png

      They were both special intros, but the anime was only able to be this special because the manga had set equivalently special groundwork.

      I think this post I found from an old discussion thread describes the manga intro and AFO's inteo well:

      “All For One – let’s take a moment to appreciate the visual theatrics of this beast
      From the build up, to the floating hanged-man imagery, to the face
      There was a word that came to mind to describe the feeling I felt when I saw his panels
      The word was not Horrifying – though his actions were,
      The word wasn’t Threatening – though I felt fearful for every single good-hearted soul in the area
      Nor was the word Powerful – though his display of his abilities was definitely that
      Dread. The word and feeling that came to mind was Dread.
      This is the harbinger of catastrophe and tragedy
      And you get that feeling just from looking at him
      In all the Jump series I’ve read and watched,
      I don’t think I’ve ever have seen a big bad with this kind of presence.
      Bravo Horikoshi, you’ve created a monster”

      Also, it's funny seeing smug people trying to talk down the hype for his intro by saying MHA fans must have not experienced much other anime or manga, or listing other series they've seen, or calling AFO generic.

      It's just that good.

      It's hard for this scene to live up to the manga, which may have been the best villain introduction I've seen, so much presence through lines and very few pages.
      But then again, I'm not anime only, so maybe this matched up to them.

      He has a new or slightly new style every arc, and I enjoy them all, it's about the general quality.
      There are even some things I enjoy about the Whole Cake style.
      Edit: I mean even the color pages and jump covers and cover pages and volume covers show the drop to me.

      @wolfwood:

      Huh. I never heard anybody badmouth the art before. The story constantly, but the art? That's new. Or i guess i do recall that time Ivotas hallucinated that a chapter of OP looked worse than a Togashi sketch. But that was crazy pants. Your objection is probably lotsa more sane.

      I haven't been feeling the art, ever since the end of Dressrosa.
      Obviously I've enjoyed select panels and it hasn't been terrible, but the paneling/lines and the such don't stand out as much to me.
      The action hasn't hit, compared to even something like Ceasar vs Luffy v2 with the flame sword thingy, and the characters feel flat rather than 3 dimensional, I think it has to do with his health/vision, but it's really apparent to me when you compare the current scans (Viz) to the older ones.

      I know why I haven't liked One Piece in about 100 or so chapters now (aside from select moments/chapters), it's the art/cinematography, it has no presence to me, I'm not drawn into the world anymore, hope Oda can get back to his previous level one day.

      Edit:
      (Obviously it's the story as well, but the art is a major boon still)

      Does it matter? It's just shipping war nonsense either way.

      It matters to some because they want representation, but I'm not in that camp and am heterosexual, and my comments on their relationship have been minimal.
      Wanting to see a relationship as part of a story development doesn't always have to be "shipper nonsense," that's just polarization talking.
      The arguments I see are as invalidating towards homosexual relationships in manga as the people who fetishize them that some of the former group claims to be against/is part or why they dislike the idea of a Kiri/Baku relationship.
      Edit: I'm probably making this bigger than I should though, as my fuel for this rant as purely just thinking they were insufferably wrong in argument rather than any unity with a cause

      Ah I see. Well I definitely agree that there are hints, though considering the genre, doesn't mean much to me personally until it explicitly happens. That goes for romance stuff in general, but even doubly so for same-sex relationships, as dancing around it is just lame to me. Sure would be awesome if he goes through with it though.

      I'm not even saying there are hints (though I do believe there are), I'm just pointing out how they'll say there are none or say he definitively isn't gay, when in the next breath they'll jump on any straight ship for the two characters.

      So that's out of nowhere. What brought this on?

      A thread on the My Hero Academia subreddit on them.
      I like the idea of a relationship between them, but I've never been a shipper so I'm not stumping for it or anything, the arguments I see against it generally trigger me though, so that's what brought this on.

      What arguments exactly?

      Two off the top of my head, being a lack of hints from Horikoshi and #Fujos forcing the narrative to go where they want, when a large variety of people either ship them or could see the story going in that direction/those same people who claim this have no issue diving headfirst into Caime x Bakugou or Mina x Kirishima.
      And two, when they claim that a relationship between the two would send a bad message to boys in terms of intimacy in platonic relationships, or would only be apart of a string of people acting as though male friendships can't exist or be forcing "social justice."

      The arguments against Kirishima x Bakugou is the most disingenuous nonsense I've seen in this fandom.

      I wonder how the anime can live up to the manga in the AFO reveal, and not that cleaned up, nonsense volume version, the initial chapter release with the pure black smudge of dread and evil.

      @Cyclone_Baroness:

      I don't think your argument really works. I feel we are past the point Bakugou could devolve into what Endeavour was at the start. The author kinda saw to the end of that at the end of the extra provisional classes. I mean yes in theory he could become the ultimate bag of ducks but why would Horikoshi undo all of his characters progress to not look down on people or to go back to hating Midoriya? He's even done subtle things like dropping nicknames and just calls people by their names. His anger is now mostly shown as him being a partially harmless mad dog and is mostly glossed over when he yells. At least his class mates know how to decode what he's saying and if they don't he elaborates. His abrasive self is being more written as part of himself that probably won't change. But he's not being built up as someone that seems like he's not learning how to be a more proper hero.

      In short, I don't think it's a parallel that works fully any more. Bakugou and Endeavor are different than they were months ago.

      I agree that all those changes have occured, I still dislike seeing people deny the basis for the parralels and their interconnected arcs at big points for Bakugou (the tournament, afo, kids).
      Bakugou has had points in the story where he backslides or his inner anger goes to his head, and the possibility for relapses in response to new developments is still there.
      Endeavor has grown in certain aspects, otherwise he couldn't function as he does, Bakugou could grow in some ways and still end up at a negative place (I don't believe he ultimately will though).
      I'm not arguing he will be Endeavor 2.0, just that it was and or is a possibility, and that Horikoshi has continued to highlight them together for a reason, so it's annoying to see people (not here) shut it down completely while they're excusing and woobifying Bakugou without engaging in the parallel on multiple levels.
