First of all just make it clear, I am not sexist. I have no problem with a female shichibukai. Just her portrayal as a character seems to make her look like a joke compared to the other shichibukai.
Usually when I think about the shichibukai, I imagine them as powerful, independent, impressive individuals in both power and personality. That is at least the impression I get when one is introduced. When each one was officially introduced they had an awesome introduction.
When Hancock was introduced it started with a joke. Her kicking a kitten out of the way, which I guess was suppose to be a joke. Then when the VA tried to convince her to come with him. She just said she did not want to in such a manner that it made her look like a spoiled brat. When she said she did not feel like going, I got the impression she is like a kid who had his way too often and thinks the whole world revolves around what he or she wants. This is not the main reason why I think she is a joke compared to the other shichibukai, just that she made a bad impression as a character IMO.
So what is her justification for her behavior? Is for it more power,it is ambition or to protect something important? No it is just that she thinks her beauty allows to do anything she wants to. That is a shallow and boring motivation, the other shichibukai had far more interesting motivation.
Also her first demonstration of power is to make horny men as hard as stone. Am I the only one who finds this to be a joke considering that all one has to do is not focus on her beauty to overcome this power. All of the other shichibukai first of demonstration power were more impressive and less ridiculous then this.
Also isn't her name Boa Hancock, a phallic metaphor?
Then when wee see her at amazaon lily. We see that she likes to look down on people so much that she bends backwards. The habit again seems like another joke.
Then we go to her horrible past which I guess is suppose to make her into a good guy someone to pity. I would understand this if she her were a normal side character created to keep the plot moving. It is just that she is a shichibukai. Someone who is suppose to appear fearsome and powerful, not as a spoiled girl or a traumatized girl. Especially she seem not to think in all those years just to either burn off the tattoo or create another one to cover it. If I had such a horrible thing on me I would get rid of it as soon as possible. That she did not do that is just ridiculous. She is no smarter then Duval and his goons.
After Luffy has won her trust. Her character becomes even more of a joke. She gets lovesick. An actual illness that is affecting her. Are you telling me that a shichibukai is lovesick? This is just a bad joke.
Now after she recovers from her "illness". She acts like a school girl despite that she suppose to be grown woman. Then add the fact that she fawns and daydreams about a boy who is about a decade younger then her. That is just ridiculous and a bad joke IMO.
At this point she is just a bad joke. All of the other shichibukai have interesting personalities and are not a walking joke. The shichibukai are individuals that feared and awed in the OP world. When I think of awe and fear, I do not think of a spoiled brat or lovesick schoolgirl which is what Hancock is.
Maybe my concept of a shichibukai is mistaken though I did get that impression from all the other ones.
So does anyone else agree with me?
