Has anyone else been watching this long ass marathon? They aired all 6 movies in a row without commericals.
I saw 3-6 straight through and the tail end of 2(Geonosis Arena to the end)
So pretty much I got the best of them. I must admit watching them side by side REALLY Made the Prequals suck more.Vader was not ruined as I thought he would be if I watched NOOOO to I find your lack of faith disturbing. Still I enjoyed it alot. Plus its on OnDemand for free.

The nooooo was the only bad thing in episode 3. My star wars rank is ….
episode 5 Empire strikes back
episode 3 Anakin goes berserk lol
episode 4 A new hope
episode 6 Return of the JEdi
episode 2 Attack of the clonesepisode 1 The phanton menace....the darth maul duel was the only thing good about the movie to me. Oh and Anakin meeting the council for the first time.
-
…3's bad parts were just Noooo, Anakin Falling to the Dark side too fast, R2 D2 vs Super Battle Droid, Yoda ending his fight withPalpatine (thisisnt big but wouldnt Yoda like makea force pillow to soften the fall, or at least jump back up to Palpatine and fight some more?), and finnaly Love Dialogue as per usual. Irvin Kershner was the best for Star Wars Love Dialogue.
I rank them-
Empire
Star Wars
Jedi
Sith
Clones
MenaceMenace had Darth Maul, Podrace, and Duel ofthe Fates. Thats it.
-
force pillow? that is not even cannon.
Anakin fall started in part 2. How long do u expect it to take? Vader and Palpatine wanted Luke to fall to the dark side. It doesnt take long.
Yoda knew he was screwed once the troopers came. That is why he did what he did.
I believe that Anakin brought balance to the force by going to the dark side and getting rid of the jedi, than turning back later on in life. The jedi were flawed. Qui Jon was probably the perfect jedi. He believed in emotions and was to first jedi to become one with the force.
Vader emotions is what turned him to the dark side but also those same emotions turned him back to good side later. Obi wan was a bad teacher as well. If Qui Jon didnt die, Anakin would have never turned to the dark side. But it was all the will of the force.
-
While not exactly a force pillow, there IS Force Protection as seen in Jedi Acadamey.
Yes Anakin was tapping into the dark side a few times- From the Sand People to Techno Union to the first encounter of Asajj, and then again on theInvisible Hand. But he pledged himself rather fast. The novelaziation has more Palpatine seduction then in the movie.
Now had Padme appeared to have died before Anakin became Vader that would have been a better explination instead of to save Padme from dying. -

Read the book based on the orginial script, it's alot better. You understand his need to be considered a Master, which if you don't mind spoilers(if you do, stop here) was that you can only access the library's preminition files if you are a Master. There was also a chat with Anakin and Obi-wan that was the part where Anakin really started doubting him.
Acxtually that was the thing I was looking forward to the most, and they cut it.
-
I thought the prequel trilogy was well done once u took everything in at once. I thought part 1 was useless until I read the books and other things. Qui Jon and his way of thinking was superior to that of Yoda's and the council members. They were out of wack with the force. And the force wiped the Jedi away, through Anakin.
In the novels, even tho they are not cannon. The new jedi order that Luke starts dont exclude emotions and love ones. They teach from the Qui Jon method and believe in the unified force.
They cut alot of things from the movies, which kind of made it lack a certain amount of depth. Mace also made some mistakes that cost him his life. His arrogance and his disdain he had for Anakin. He also had some dark side tendecies but he was a master and was able to control it.
-
Actually the novels are cannon. There are different formsof cannon. G cannon is the movies, novelizations of films, Cartoons, The Crappy holiday special,Expanded Universe items used in films, and theThrawn Trilogy. C Cannon is The Expanded Universe games, comics, and books. But these are all part of Star Wars. George has even used parts of it for the movies- Like Shadows of theEmire (Dash Rendars ship is in ANH, Xizor in Menace), Thrawn Trilogy (Coruscant but this is already G cannon), Dark Empire(Boba Fetts non death check ROTJ commentary George said Dark Empire is the closest thing that represents his plan for a sequal trilogy), Chewies death while not in the movies he said to kill him off, plus characters from comic like Aalya Secure and Quinlon Vos (will be in TVshow and mentioned in ROTS). Plus the Enetire prequal trilogy is full of references to Droids and video games
-
Well I meant the book about Luke starting up the jedi order. I understand what you mean but to me only the 6 movies and novels of the movies, and the cartoon of the clone war is cannon.
George used some expanded universe stuff in the prequels but it doesnt make that book cannon. Because he does make a sequel trilogy which he should, alot of that stuff would be contradicting. Many of the expanded universe books contradict each other. It is more like a different universe type thing like what American comics do.
-
And you are not alone on that. Many people I know dont consider them cannon either. Actually my friend thinks Star Wars novels are like this-
"Luke activates his lightsaber.
vsssshhhhh"
Shame. -
I frickin love Episode 1, it has to be my favorite one of the star wars movie. But note this is mainly due to Darth Maul and the big battle with him at the end of the movie. That was an epic ass fight.
-
Episode 1 has to be one of the worst big-budget movies ever made in history. I think George Lucas took a dump in a port-o-potty and pulled out a film reel. If most of the acting, annoying little Anakin, the complete lack of spark or chemistry between Qui Gon and Obi Wan, the dubious plot and introduction to crap like "midi-chlorians" didn't completely kill any shadow of a movie beyond lots of special effects, then Jar-Jar Binks certainlly put the nail in the coffin.
I can't say I'm very fond of any of the prequels. Episode 3 was the best of them, but the ending killed it. Thank you Lucas for completely emasculating Darth Vader and making Padme out to be a dumb and selfish weakling of a woman. None of the three movies really had any charm to them.
I would rank the movies like so:
Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope
Return of the Jedi
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
The Phantom Menses -
I like Menace because Qui-Gon kicked immense ass
so IMO
Empire / Jedi - always to close for me to call
New Hope
Menace
Sith
Clones -
That is pretty much what the prequels are = Ass-kicking + Special Effects, and nothing else of any substance.
-
I understand what you mean but to me only the 6 movies and novels of the movies, and the cartoon of the clone war is cannon.
Lucasfilm's canon system is laid out in the following way:
The Films are absolute canon as are those works directly derived from them; the novelizations and radio drama. If the latter contradict the films on a point, then they're wrong, period. This is called G level canon. Statements by Lucas also fall into this category, which makes sense really as he came up with it in the first place. That's the top layer of canon and anything that contradicts those items is incorrect.
The next layer is C continuity, which is pretty much everything that isn't the things listed above. Video game storylines (but not elements of gameplay), comics (with a few exceptions), novels, and other things fall into this category. The Clone Wars is technically C canon, but it apparently directly contradicts other C level canon such as novels; in that case, the latter would probably take precedence.
There are a few things that are S level, which is just really old material for the most part that was introduced well before anything else, including, in some cases, TESB and ROTJ.
There's a reasonable argument that things like the Visual Dictionary and Incredible Cross Sections books are also G canon as they come directly from the movies.

People need to stop bitching and complaining at the prequals and saying shit about Lucas. Its his own fucking creation, what he chooses to do with it is his business and the hardcore fans saying hes shit and he needs to be killed before he does more is idiotic cause hes the bastard that made the very franchise you drool over.
So yeah, prequal bashers seriously need a knock to the head.
-
I thought Revenge of the Sith was one of the best movies he made. I place it above the others besides Empire.
But this is no different than people bashing Kishie when he messed up his own creation as well. Even tho, I think the prequels as a whole brought more depth to the whole star wars saga.
-

And people are entitled to their own opinion that the prequels are poor movies. Not that I agree with people who bash Lucas and just want to make a big stink in general. There's always whiney fanboys. But you just have to live with the fact that a lot of people don't like the prequels. And for completely legitimate reasons.
If you enjoy them, that's fine. There's movies that I find much amusement out of and like to watch repeatedly… but I can admit they're really crappy movies.
The original three certainly aren't Shakespeare either. -
Yes, people are entitled to their own opinions but they need to swallow their damn star wars pride and accept they are part of the story and Lucas is allowed to do what he wishes.
If he wanted to make a Star Wars involving wookies in a Will & Grace type sitcom, he could and would.
-
So I always wondered… on Return of the Jedi Luke asks Leia what their real mother was like and she says like... "She was beautiful but troubled." but in the third movie Padmé gives birth and then dies afterwards and the two kids are whisked off to live with their adopted parents... so like what?
EDIT: Empire Strikes Back is most likely the best movie, IMO.
-
Perhaps she saw pictures and also heard stories? XD
-

I don't disagree that it's part of the story, I just think the movies could have been much better and I think poor choices were made. Maybe Lucas shouldn't have directed them. I thought the direction of ESB and ROJ were much better without him.
@Lupus:

Someone who is a bigger Star Wars fan than I am insisted to me that Leia is talking about her adopted mother, not her real mother. shrug I'd have to watch it again.
Otherwise it's a plothole. It's not the only one that was created with the prequels.
-
Leia's memory is just extremely extremely good when she saw her mum on her deathbed.
But yeah, let's settle for plothole.
-
Well not to get too nerdy on you guys, but people in the star wars forums were talking about Leia had a force moment before her mom died. When she held her in her arms before she died.
What are the other plot holes?
-
It would have been better if Leia was born first. But Luke was asleep while Leia was awake in the ending. I guess that counts.
Now Jar Jar…if anyone can defend him withgood argument then I would pay him/her. -
Thats something that bugs me tho, wtf happened to Jar-Jar?
-
He became a member of the Galactic Senate on behalf of Naboo, you see him briefly on Attack of the Clones speaking with Obi-Wan.
Oh, and there's more plotholes?
-
I can't remember now, it's been a while since I watched them, I just remember my boyfriend and I watching, and my bf is one people that knows more about SW than I care to know, and he kept pointing out a bunch of things, I just don't really care that much and I'd rather not know about the plotholes. XD
-
He was on Alderaan when it exploded.
The end. Thank god. -
@Anime:

The end. Thank god.Jar-Jar….welts up
-
I'm probably the only one here who likes Jar-Jar. Hell, I love Jar-Jar. Favorite character of the prequels. puts on an umpire's mask and gets ready for flames
Hmmm…. paid to defend Jar-Jar......... Out of all the main prequel characters, he f'd up the galaxy the least. Also, his f'ing of the galaxy didn't come out of ignorance or stuborness, unlike Qui-Gon (refusing to listen to the council) or Anakin (you know why). There, can I have my money now?
@Le:Leia's memory is just extremely extremely good when she saw her mum on her deathbed.
I've only seen episode 3 once, so my memory on Padme's death is a bit shady, but I don't recall Leia seeing her die.
I remember how Padme named her children…. "Urg pant Luke uh pant Leia" Just horrible.
