At the end of the anime they DON'T wallow in angst, and do exactly as you said - suck it up and keep going. Unfortunately, then they took all the hope they set up at the end of the series and ruined it for the most part in the movie. Oh well. I can't wait to see the chibi shorts in the OAVs! (The Chibi Greed on the promo just KILLED me with his evil cuteness!)

The FMA manga is really awesome. Chapter 39 owns my soul….I knew Mustang was bad ass, but that proved him to be a whole new level of bad ass. And that tatoo twist has me twisting in my seat! I really want to know exactly what it is. It's definitely old...POSSIBLE SPOILERS

One theory is that perhaps this means Riza was in cahoots with Wrath. Another is that it's something Roy had her get to protect her. I'm kind of doubtful on both those theories, but you really never know. Argh, I don't want to wait another few weeks! Oh well…I still have pleanty of old chapters to catch up on in the mean time.

Well . . . we know Riza was in the Ishvar war with Roy . . . . so he may have put it on her then. I somehow doubt she was in cahoots with Wrath, if you recall the scene where she first meets Winry she very seriously talks about how she stays in the military to protect her "important person." If anything she willingly got that tattoo from Roy.

Oh, and another reason I like the manga better than the anime (not that I hate the anime or anything . . .):

The Xing (chinese) characters. Ling, Ran Fan, Fu, and Mei. They are just ten kinds of awesome and it's a crying shame they never made it into the anime. Especially Ling, god I love him!! (yes I'm half chinese so I'm biased, so sue me)

Speaking of which, through the past few chapters this has been ringing in the back of my head:

Can't wait for the other ova of the Seven homunculus vs. the military. The pics from it already look so fantastic :yatta: . I'm also curious of what the chibi one is about as it seems to take place during the movie era but in one of the small pics from the magazine scan you can see scar and lust, also there is three alphonse in it(armor,regular and WW1 world)…..:molly: .

Also the tattoo on Hawkeye's back is most intriguing. I can guess that she MIGHT be pride, since we have only seen pride in the shadows. But I don't think homonculus have that tattoo per say, mangas besides naruto are to hard to predict now adays :P

We've seen Pride's silhouette, and it doesn't match Riza's at all. It looks like a man.

Besides, I think it's very important that the tattoo is the salamander alchemic circle, as it ties into Roy. (if she were Pride it would more likely be the Ouroboros symbol)

They're all raw right now but OMG. That chibi one…I have not seen something so cute and funny since the FY OAV shorts! And the fight bit was awesome, but I wish Greed had not gotten so jacked. Particularly by my least favorite character (which is the nicest way I can put it) But other than that...Squee!

Has anyone here downloaded the complete sub version of FMA with good quality subs. I am attempting to at the mo but every set of episodes I find, the torrent file won't work (errors/permission denied etc) I found a batch on animeyume (8 GB) but about 7% in a permission denied error appeared and I can't download it anymore. I also found a 13GB DVD rip which is downloading now but does anyone here know of a good fansub place other than animeyume (i have looked through the list of sites in torrents page but they either don't have them or they don't work) where I can happily download the series. I found 1-25 eng/jap dvd rip fine but can't find the jap only version.

That "Kids" OVA should be the definite ending of the whole FMA series; it's so perfect, man!

Chibi was weird, but Alchemists v. Homunculi was awesome.

One of the best things about the Kids OVA? Mustang and his subordinates are playing Duel Monsters. :P

But yeah, I like the Kids OVA the best out of them because it's so simple and understated.

Oh, and a little line from the kids at the end: "We brought gifts from Grampa Al!"

(and if you look at the picture it looks like Al got WAY taller than Ed)

After reading the latest chapter in Shonen Gangan, I can only say . . . . . . DUDE!!!!!!

! We learn that Riza is none other than the daughter of the alchemist who taught Roy fire alchemy. Hence maybe why she has a tattoo on her back? In any case, he died before Roy could apparently get some last bit of info out of him, but, if I read correctly, he said all info should be with his daughter. I guess this solves the mystery of when Roy and Riza first met, they knew each other when Roy was an alchemy student! (I want more info, that has potential to be all kinds of cuteness.
! We also are FINALLY getting the flashback concerning Winry's parents and their deaths in the Ishbal War. From the little we saw so far, they are some awesome people, especially her dad. Definitely from the genes of Granny Pinako. Oh, and we see Young Scar and his alchemy-studying brother.

I started reading the manga a bit, and I'm a bit miffed at her tendency to kill off cool characters.

ESPECIALLY that Silver Alchemist! I mean, when we first see him, he's a crazy, cool looking old man with a tophat and a pegleg. OK, I'm sold aready. Then we find out that he's the Silver Alchemist, a bitter crazy old war veteran, and he starts shooting off all of these transmuted weapons and chains and doing backflips and somersauts and kickflip mctwists and all sorts of zany shit. That's an awesome character right there. Then Scar just kills him. Lame as hell.

And who would have thought that about Roy and Riza? After all the fan speculation about when they first met…it turned out to be a lot earlier than anyone ever thought. I can't wait for 59!

Oh yes, for those buying the English mangas, 7 just came out. It's probably my all time favorite volume....Oh the Greedy goodness.

Only stores that got it early have it now. I think the official release date for volume 7 is May 2nd or something.

Yeah, it's officially not out yet, but most Borders in New Jersey have it. (I checked their inventory myself XD!) I imagine it's the same for most Borders, though you might have to ask for it.

My Waldens doesn't have it yet =( But they should soon.

Also, DVD 9 of the anime comes out officially on the second, but my Best Buy had put it out already. Ha, both Greed volumes come out together…I love Greed so much, it's a shame he was under used.

On another note, I really like the inserts with the DVDs...they're practically mini artbooks. I wish Funi did that for the DBZ uncuts too.

Aren't the mini artbooks something that came with the first edition prints of the japanese DVDs? It's not like FUNi is pulling them from nowhere.

But anyways, I really enjoy FUNi's DVDs for FMA as well as the dub.

I'm not sure where they're pulling it from, some of the artwork I've seen in anime artbooks…But all the same, it's nice that they bothered to translate (or write stuff up) and put it in there. I wish some of my other DVDs would do that.

And yeah...I don't usually care for dubs, but I like the FMA one. The American VAs are also some of the nicest folks I've met...They're really great with the fans, and they're just plain fun to talk to, since they're dorks themselves.

Finally got a chance to see the movie. I know lots of people have been bashing it, but I wanted to see for myself. Well here's my opinion.
This movie is a bad fan fic that tries to tie up all the loose ends, very badly. I didn't get a sence of any of the real charicters, it was all just stupid camios. whooptie do. The only part i got into was

! the part where Al's soal was transmuted into that armour in "our" world and him and Ed were able to see eachother for some time. I wanted to see mroe back story of what Al, Winry, and Roy did between the anime end and the movie.

ya, needless to say, I was disapointed. It has encouraged me to pick up the manga in hopes of a better ending.

While I like the manga a lot better than the anime, i think the anime does a very good job of standing on its own. Sure, not perfect (too much melodrama!), but very well done in most areas.

Speaking of which, has anybody found links to the latest chapter? I want to see more Ishvar flashback!

You said it, sistah. I think, with the exception of the wrap up of the end of the series, and everything there after (including the movie…which upset me on so many levels) the anime does a good job on it's own. I also like certain anime only twists...We see more of Hughes and Martel, and have interesting twists thrown in like the ones with Scar and Lust, or Roy and Winry's parents. Those things were enjoyable, at least to me, although I could see where some people might not dig it. I also like how the one twist with Havoc DIDN'T happen (and god damn it Arakawa you better not forget to make that right!)

But the manga is just AMAZING as far as story goes, and when it comes to pure adaptation, the anime sucks in that department. I'm also really disappointed that we're not seeing some of the recentish manga stuff animated. I would absolutely KILL to see Mustang VS Lust, or hell.....ANYTHING with Ling and Ran Fan. I loved Greed's final manga speech too. I don't know, I could go on and try to argue about the things I liked and the things I didn't, but that'd be really silly and pointless. The bottom line is you either like what they did, or you don't, either way it's fine and dandy.

I think the thing that impresses me is that for something that is so ridiculously different from the manga, it didn't come across as a series full of 'filler arcs' if you know what I mean. If you look at Real Bout High School, or Rurouni Kenshin past episode 70, you'll understand.

Edit - Got 59 off LJ! OMFG! HUGHES! I miss him so much….interesting chapter, looking forward to the scanslation.

See that's the thing, you could see the anime first and not think twice about these things. If you compare it to some of the other things anime writers contrive, FMA is much more well put together (This is NOT to say it's perfect, as Satsuki said.) Some other series where the anime writers took it in their own direction were just down right bad and made much less sense than FMA.

But yeah, if you hate the anime, I honestly can understand why, particularly if the manga was your first exposure. Doesn't bother me as long as you don't wank about it.

Um I was just wondering whether someone here could possibly clear some things up for me about FMA? Sorry there are so many questions :sad:

Please could someone tell me what the OVAs are and where they take place in the story line of FMA. Are they the official end to the series/movie or their own thing? I haven't seen the movie yet (and know little about it) or the end of the series so please could someone tell me without any spoliers to these?

Also where can I find the Eng sub versions through bitorrent (the OVAS that is)

Another question, I have been crusing several forums recently and have read quite a few threads stating the possibility of a second movie/series being made. According to these fans, the manga continues on after the Anime with enough material for this to possibily happen. Anyone have any opinions (this is not coming from me by the way, its just what i've read)

Um, Does anyone know where I can download the Character Song File Best Completion album? I can't find it.

Is it true that the manga continues on past the anime/movie and gives FMA a better/proper ending? I have read from several people that the movie had quite a disapointing ending (no spoilers please)

One more little question, um does ED ever get his real arm and leg back. I know that he lost them again after getting them back at the end of the anime (no spoliers please) and has his metal one in the movie but thats all. Do his real ones ever come back? (I hope so)

Wow, that is a lot of questions.

To your question on the OAVs, the only OAV out of the batch that can really be considered an ending is the Kids OAV, where we see (briefly) an older Ed living in Japan (apparently) and the OAV ends with "In 2005, Edward turns 100 years old." Not so much a closure ending as a tribute. The other two OAVs are stand-alone stories meant to be silly fluff.

Eeee! This is why I love flashbacks. Not only do we get much-needed background info, it's a way to enjoy characters who have passed on. Hughes is still as silly as ever! (and according to that envelope his wife's name's official spelling is Glacier.)

And of course lots of lovely Roy and Riza interaction.
