I'm trying to translate a manga called Gingitsune just so I can read it because the group that was scanlating it dropped it. I know almost no Japanese but have been getting by decently enough (albeit slowly) with dictionaries and stuff. But I have no idea what this sentence is supposed to mean. Anyone care to help?

当たり何かヤシが今からブーの様子見に来るっつってんだけど

The first part (before the space) is just telling the person who asked a question that they're right it seems, just for context. And ブー is the name of a cat.

Ah, thanks. That ヤシ part was probably what was messing me up most since it apparently means palm tree or something when I looked it up but I guess means something else in this context.

Edit: And while we're at it this was another sentence that was giving me trouble

ったく誰かさんが狛犬に会うとか言うから… (あーめんどくせ)

They're passing a Buddhist temple and one of the characters says this. I did translate this but I want to see how off I am.

Oh well I completely misinterpreted that second kana then too. Thought it was yashi, not yatsu. Have to be careful about that in the future.

One of my most proudest achievements would have to be mastering the oh so famous なんでやねん (nan de ya nen)'s intonation. My intonation is really good since im living in Kansai but Nandeyanen was a lot more difficult.

2-3 days saying it, listening to others and recording my own voice and listening/adjusting i was able to get it finally.

If anyone would be willing to help me translate something, that'd be swell. First, here's the video:

A perfect shot of the kanji is at 1:02:40 It is, in English "Meito Kieiken".

I believe "Meito" will be tied to the name of a star (the user of the martial art is tied to Venus), "Ken" will likely mean fist. And I think they said in the game that "Kiei" might mean "possession". But I'd like if someone could clarify what exactly it would all be called. Please. :)

I don't know much about Hokuto no Ken but I'm not sure Meito refers to anything specific. The "mei" is a kind of obscure kanji meaning "darkness." The "to" is the same one from "Hokuto." Hokuto is the big dipper constellation, and "to" is the dipper part (used to measure liquids etc). I'm not sure "Dark dipper" is exactly what they're going for; maybe it's a play on words/themes or maybe in Chinese it's something?

Kieiken is demon (oni) + shadow + fist. All together it'd be Dark Dipper Demon Shadow Fist.

It can mean darkness in the sense of death or the underworld, but it also just means plain old dark. No worries though.

Also trying to learn new languages. Recently began learning turkish,I need it for working on passenger vessels.
I AM TRYING TO WATCH TURKISH SERIES (seriously) it is hilarious lol, plot is comparable to indian movie effects.

For example, its useless to watch movies without subtitles when you are beginner, so trying to use all modern opportunities

I don't know a lick of Turkish, so I don't know if there are "gutter languages" like in Japanese, especially in anime and movies.

When studying Japanese, you can watch anime and pick up some words here and there. The problem is that a lot of Japanese movies and TV shows use slang, which is not normally used in conversations, especially towards superiors. If you're working for a Japanese company and your boss catches you talking like an anime character, you'd be fired on the spot.

lang-8.com's been a really interesting experience so far. It's great to get native speakers to correct you, AND give other ways to say it. Not having much of a chance to really do much Japanese reading for years - and next to never putting my own thoughts into Japanese - this is a really good site.

If you're just started learning, get your hiragana and katakana down pat, and then ease into kanji with this. I'm sure they'll "correct" any kana into kanji for you, and maybe you can start to learn kanji that way. And might be easier than how I've slowly, gradually, painfully learned kanji.

That sounds like an interesting site. Is it free to use? I really need to up my game in practicing Japanese.
