so the strawhats have gotten a lot stronger since they ran into Buggy and his crew. Now the story seems to be pointing in a direction to where these two crews are gonna bump into each other again but i can't picture Buggy's crew development: I mean, Buggy got beat pretty easily by Luffy, so now that he's learned the gears I'm wondering what Buggy will have to pull to even be able to put up a fight.
any thoughts?
Strawhats and Buggy's crew
-
-
His name should be enough to answer that question. And if not, how about because he pwns? That's a pretty good reason.
Ummm, seriously though; I don't think Luffy would use the Gears against Buggy unless he was seriously losing and then still it would make for an interesting battle.
-
I've been thinking about what would happen when the two crews meet again as well, and I've really no idea. I mean, Luffy and the rest of the crew have become very powerful since they fought Buggy, but seeing as Buggy has been traveling the Grand Line as well, I wouldn't be surprised if he has picked up a few new tricks of his own and become more of a threat. To hold your own on the Grand Line is a hard thing, apparently.

I believe that the top-dogs of buggy's crew should be on the level of the SH pirates. I could also see people like Foxy joining Buggyy's crew.
Remember that buggy is a pirate travveling the Grand Line, so there is no doubt he is getting stronger. The only qeuestion is how high is his (and his crew's) rate of improvment.
The SH are special to be able to get so much stronger in such a short amount of time. But believe the buggy pirates are also increasing in strengh at a similar pace. Oda is keeping them in the crew for a reason.
Buggy should get in a good amount of fights seeing as how he has a huge obsession with treasure.**
-
@Octogon:

My thoughts exactly.
-
Buggy didn't get beaten easily. In fact, Buggy and Luffy haven't had a real fight yet. buggy never got past the "both fighters are warming up" stage before nami butted in and Buggy was sent away. Then there was the unfortunate lightning strike in Rougetown.
I think when the REAL Buggy-Luffy fight happens, Luffy's gonna have a harder time with our favorite clown than he did with Lucci.
-
Well Buggy still has a lot of untapped potential. The main reason Luffy won the first match was because he had Nami's help in distraction and tying up some of the pieces together. He can still be even with Luffy. I cant wait for Oda to do this again.
Rubber man vs Splitting man 2 the rematch

**QFT X 1,000,000,000
I'd like to see buggy control his powers on a logis-like scale. Perhaps a cellular scale.**
-
Also, we should all remember: Buggy was the ONLY villain that ever discovered Luffy's weakness, his strawhat! Imagine how hard would it be for Luffy if Crocodile or Lucci were targeting his hat, and not just his body, in order to make Luffy vulnerable?
-

Iono, I mean the bad thing about going after the hat is that Luffy gets super mega ultra pissed mode with gives him about 100 times his strength. Maybe not 100, but he gets pretty powerful when he is angry.

This is very true. Thats another reason why Buggy is so awesome, he's exactly like Luffy in battle. He picks up on everything and adapts, or at least it seems that way from what we've seen.
-

**Anger doesn't really give you more strengh when you're someone like Luffy, buggy, Zoro, etc.
People seem to think That anger makes you more powerful, which is false.**
-
IMO the fight would more comedic than serious like the last fight but Oda has proved many of my predictions wrong in the past. I hope for a serious fight but Buggy will have a role amoung Black and Whitebeard pirates, Shanks. I mean he is the only one not defeated by Luffy.
-

Well anger gives you one thing-energy. Anger is just a lot of energy rising up within you. When Luffy first fought Buggy, he couldn't hit him, but after Buggy cut his hat open, Luffy went beserk and landed some hits.
-
Hulk says, "Don't make me angry, you don't like me when I'm angry." Think same goes to any protagonists in shonen manga.

**All Luffy did was hit buggy's stomach instead of his neck.
The biggest thing that anger does is make you not care. You don't care about yourself. Most people have a tendency to slow down just before they hit soething. People like Luffy, Zoro, buggy, sanji etc, can bypass this.**
-
okok, bad choice of words… true, nami provided a distraction and the opening for Luffy to attack. what I'm wondering is how an actual fight between the two would play out now, considering that we havent seen Buggy in a while
-
QFT Octogon. Just one more try though. How bout the time when Luffy was fighting Arlong? Arlong was in control until Luffy went into Nami's room and got really angry at Arlong. Then he owned him with an axe.
-

The thing with Luffy, though, is that he knows how to channel his anger into power. He never really stays angry, at least that's how I see it (if that makes any sense).

That's simple. As you know Arlong's greatest assest in a fight is his durability. Luffy got very angry in Nami's old room at Arlong Park. He then broke the sword. But he was able to break steel since the start of the series, and even then you could clearly see Luffy was trying his hadest just to do that. In truth, I think Luffy was Lucky Arlong bit him at the last moment. That allowed him to hit Arlong on what should a vunerable place. I believe he hit him on the neck, which would cause a lot of pain. And because of the nature of Gomu Gomu no Axe, the entire building Collasped on Arlong and Luffy. but let's say Luffy is lucky he was orbber, or else he would have had probaley been knocked out.

Arlong was never really in control. Frankly, after all that buildup the arlong fight was sort of emberassing. If you're in battle where youre opponent feels safe ignoring you and whaling on a BOOKSHELF instead, you need to go back to karate class.
-
We also have to put into consideration other members of Buggy's crew like Cabaji and Alvida. How have they improved? Plus, Ace is with them don't forget.

I'm done. You win the super cool time machine on the 426 disscussion.
Robin vs Alvida. Hands down that is a good fight. It makes Robin have some challenge since she cant grab Alvida because of her Devil Fruit ability. Also this could be a good time for Robin to get into a super sexy fight! J/K on the last part… -

Even though Alvida is slippery, Robin can just keep grabbing her.
That last part didn't sound right:ninja:….......**

well, like octagon said earlier, i can see buggy learning to use his power on a more detailed scale so he can't be hit, but the rest of the crew I can't sai I see that much room for improvement. For crying out loud, cabaji was defeated by a wounded Zoro; at this point, with Zoro's level of skill i think Cabaji would need to have improved quite a lot to mathch him

I think Cabaji is more serious, by the looks of it, at this point in the series; so hopefully less circus tricks and more swordsmanship. As for Robin VS Alvida, that would be the ultimate match of the cowboy hats. Hahhahah!!!

that would be cool to see, but even tho Alvida is slippery, robin's hands would sprout on alvida's body so at tthat poiint im surre she could incapacitate her somehow
-
Well we concluded
Alvida vs Robin
Buggy vs LuffyRitchie and Mohji could have a two on two match. Maybe chopper and …
Angryitalian, you got a point with cabaji needing redemption. It wouldn't be him though if he didnt use circus tricks.
-
nah, I think it's going to be a
Alvida & Buggy vs Luffy & Nami…...
Buggy probably won't forget how Nami screwed him up by tying up his body parts.

@Octogon:
… Oda is keeping them (Buggy) in the crew for a reason.
comical relief ??
In earnest, I can´t see a real fight of the buggy crew against the SH crew. The best thing could be a funny fight between the two "cowboy hats" - probably finished in 3 panels … sorry imo Buggy was left behind on the roadside long ago (but of course Oda is GOD).
by the way, about the rage-thing:
rage having no effect on fighting ability/power is absolutely ridicoulous (for reference simply think about personel experiences or if you like it more scientifically look up sthg. about adrenaline).
In shounen universe just take a look at luffys big fights Arlong, croc and now lucci .... emotions have no effects??? .... yeah, yeah..... -
Buggy will get his arc…... somehow...but I don't see it yet...... at the current storyline, it's not going to happen...yet..... and yeah... Oda is GOD...so, it will happen, just not so soon.....
-
Yes, he will return and maybe more stronger than ever; they wouldn't put him in Brand New World openning for nothing.
I know that is the anime and this is the Manga, but still..
-
actually, they also put Shanks, Whitebeard, the 5 old geezers, a whole armada of different pirates, Smoker and Tashigi…etc........
-

It's not comic relief. Everything can provide enough comic relief. He is keeping buggy of ra reason and it isn't comic relief.

Until I see Buggy doing something worthwile, he's going to stay in my comical relief category. For now the only reason for his continued existence is that he has connections to Luffy, Shanks and Whitebeard. As long as there isn't some remark about a raised bounty or Buggy deposing one of the 7 Gods I won't recognize him as a threat.

Perhaps you can ilustrate your point a little bit - it´s clear that you are very convinced of your opinion but on which basis? When I read above I really feel that you must live in Odas head:wassat:
My view of Buggies role is based primarily on to points:
1. His last appearance in the manga: sweating in someone elses mine mistaken as a "dangerous" treasure cave, displaying his old neurosis with his mates, (almost) wetting his pants when hearing the name of whitebeard.
Quite funny, wasn´t it?
2. perceived lack of growth over the most part of his livespan
He started out alongside with shanks. Shanks moves are now closely monitored by the Gorusei - Buggy left the grandline for the weakest sea and lived a mediocre live without much ambition (motivated mostly by greed). No basis for sudden exponential growth imo, especially when the last info about him is Point 1.But of course I´m sure we´ll meet him again. And he will have his role…

There isn't a single good reason why Oda would be keeping buggy in the story because of comic relief. Oda has a lot of oppurtunities for comic relief and uses a good number of them.

No basis for sudden exponential growth imo, especially when the last info about him is Point 1.Point 1 means…nothing, at all. And the simple fact is that Buggy was in east blue for the whole time. He was on the GL once, but we don't know what happened. the very ffact that he was enough to compete and possily defeat a man that can break steel with his teeth and kock building around is enough.
But of course I´m sure we´ll meet him again. And he will have his role…
**And it won't be comic relief.
Qhen you think about it, everything points to buggy being stronger. Everything points to him having a somewhat important role in the story.**

They're watching shanks because he knows something. The government is "keeping it's silence," meaning not DOING anything, because they don't want that something to get out.
Since the worry is about Shanks and Whitebeard meeting, chances are that something has to do with Whitebeard. And we know that both shanks AND buggy know whitebeard.
So it might make sense that shanks and buggy know the same thing, but the five elder stars DO NOT KNOW BUGGY KNOWS IT.
Do I make sense now?

well, in a real fight people tend to split half their focus into defending, evading, diverting, counterattacking, blah
when a person gets angry, full out offensive. he doesn't care about getting hurt anymore, he doesn't care about being hit, he just wants to hurt the other guy real bad
in a way, it does becomes a strength

@Octogon:
I could also see people like Foxy joining Buggyy's crew.
Personally, I could see that happening. If Foxy's crew (or, at least, what's left of it) merges with Buggy's, I could see the fights going something like this the next time Buggy's crew and the Mugiwaras fight:
Luffy vs. Buggy (of course)
Zoro vs. Cabaji (rematch!)
Usopp vs. Foxy (nose-fight!!!)
Robin vs. Alvida (Alvida's DF power would give Robin some problems in combat)
Nami vs. Porche (Nami usually ends up fighting girls (excluding Hotori and Kotori))
Sanji vs. Hamburg (they sort of fought before in DBF)
Chopper vs. Mohji and Richie (Chopper usually ends up fighting big people, such as Kumadori, Gedatsu, and Mr. 4. Plus, Mohji could desparately try (and fail) to give proof to his claim of 'being able to control any animal', which failed horribly with Chouchou)Franky could either sit those fights out, fight alongside Chopper, or fight someone else who joined Buggy.

I dunno, I actually would like to see Usopp VS Mohji and Richie. They've been with Buggy the longest, along with Cabaji, and Usopp and our favorite evil lion tamer already have a history from back in Rougetown. And even if you don't count that as an usop win (i do, kind of the same as chopper detatsu; didn't land the blow, but caused the villain to land it on himself) MOHJI, if you'll remember, couldn't remember clearly and assumed he got beaten by a hit from Usopp, so there's rematch potential.
-
… why is it that so many people believe buggy and his crew would even last a minute against the strawhats? Buggy has had years to develop his fruit powers, and still didn't pose a huge threat. he was arguably the easiest villain so far. ok, so he's been focussing on treasure hunting for a long time, but his old habits won't suddenly go away just because he's on grand line. in fact, i think his addiction to treasure is even greater on the grand line. plus, excluding alvida, all of his crew have little to no potential in terms of fighting ability. right now, i would say zoro could beat cabaji with a punch to the face.
i will admit that oda has something in store for buggy. it wouldn't make much sense to keep him in the story if he isn't going to be involved with something significant. will there be another confrontation with buggy? probably, yes. will it be serious? hell no. -

There never really was a fight! Buggy took a couple of hits, luffy got a couple scratches, they talked about Shanks. That's a LEAD UP to a fight. Then it got cut short by Nami. We've yet to see Buggy fight for real.

that buggy let himself tie up at least shows he's no combat genius and he isn't acting very self confident lately.
the rest of his crew obviously doesn't stand a chance against the strawhats.

But, I think you're wrong. It's like calling Zoro weak because Kaku got him when he didn't have his guard on. It shows that he isn't as strong as he could be and he wasn't foucsed enough.**

not really, Buggy is in fact a very smart person (from the looks of it), but probably because he was anger by seeing Shanks straw hat and which make him lose it slightly, but I hightly doubt he made a mistake by letting himself get tie up…...
and he was in the Grandline before, said a lot for his experience in fighting.....
