Is it just me, or is the fighting system WAY TOO COMPLICATED? Man, if I want something that time consuming I'll just hit a strategy game. Which I would never do. Making something complicated doesn't necessarily make it good -_-

i got through like 5 hours of the first, got stuck, and have been meaning to play ever since but just havent so it'll be a while till i get this heheehh

I LOVED this game's battle system! It's not complicated at all in my eyes, just fun. What did you find complicated exactly? Maybe I'd be able to help.
-
yeah i thought its fun and not complicated too

Being forced to spend time stocking and boosting in order to perform attacks that can actually damage enemies. And where are the old combos of yore? What's this not being able to attack upclose for Shion and Momo. Not to mention the fact that aside from a few basic attack properties, everyone is pretty much the same character.

Why not play Final Fantasy or FMA? Square are the king of RPG! B)

In other words, it's not that it's complicated, it's that you don't like it.
Here's a few quick tips.
1.) Stock-Boosting is your best friend in this game. You'll note that this time around the boost system actually WORKS. This is a good thing. The enemies don't cheat nearly as much, and you actually can create the chains.
2.) Stock-Boost chains are not just "can actually damage enemies." They can drain a boss of a third or even a half of their HP if used properly.
3.) MOMO and Shion are the best damn characters in the game. Shion's attacks are Electrical and Ether, meaning she does massive damage to Machines and often Gnosis. MOMO's attacks are all Ether and Piercing, and quite frankly end up being among the most powerful in the game, considering that the majority of enemies this time around are Human.
4.) Ziggy and chaos are the only characters that cannot hit enemies that are hit into the air. Try to refrain from using them in conjunction with Jin or KOS-MOS, as they are the launchers of the group.
Just in general, the game does take alot more thinking and strategy than most RPGs, and I happen to like that. If you don't like to think playing games… play something like an FPS or a Final Fantasy, nice simple games that don't require brain power at all.
Edit: In response to Viz Hater... Not anymore, they ain't. The king of RPGs is now Nippon Ichi.

**1. My point exactly. Why should you have to boost? Just be able to friggin' fight like the old games.
2. Yes, that's pretty much cheating in any other book and having that be something you actually have to do in order to fight is the el-suck.
3. I'd like to be able to use any character to fight any villain but because of the limitations on attack types and distances, that isn't possible in many cases unless you're BEASTLY.
4. Again, it'd be nice to play with any characters I want or at least have the ease of switching out characters like in FFX. Switching here severely punishes the attack order.
Just a poor fighting system. I never said it was hard, because no RPG is ever hard it just takes time, but it's a nuisance for certain. It's drifting further away from the potentially great game it was spawned from.
And upon reaching disc 2 I was NOT a happy camper getting narrations. Too many flashbacks to the tragedy of XG.

shrugs To each his own, I guess… I absolutely loved the battle system.
-
I can't think of a word to describe it perfectly in English but I think 面倒臭い fits well.
-
I'm not fully versed in kanji, and with the board font I can't really tell what those kanji are, making them difficult to look up. Care to give me a hand here?
-
"it is troublesome" I think (Google translation)
I also got "tiresome" and "a bother to do"
-
I think its pretty good, but I don't like how random encounters take so long and that Shion/MOMO have only 3 attacks.
