This is where we'll talk about the dub on Toonami. It's dubbed by the company that owns the rights to the soon to be #1 playground phenomenon, Naruto.

I've never heard of it before, but I'm gonna watch it. It looks pretty cool.
-
Looks interesting, and I'm sure the dub will be good.
-
Well, at least it's in a late-night time spot, so it won't be subject to as much editing (hopefully) as the anime shown on Saturday Morning cartoons.
-
Right when I was trying to find torrents, I heard it'd been licensed. It'd better be good!
-
It just ended, and I really enjoyed it. I haven't seen the original, but the voices seemed pretty right and none of them were annoying, and I didn't notice any obviously noticable edits.
-
Just ended? I thought it came on at 11:30! Oh well.
-
I must say I really enjoyed it too. Very original. I mean, we've had normal people with spellbooks before, but the spells come out of little kids? Great stuff.
I can't compare the dub to the original since I haven't seen it, but from what I can tell it's a pretty decent dub. The voices seem to be well done (especially Kiyo and Zatch/Gash) and none of it seemed to strained. I'm REALLY enjoying Kiyo's character.
the only obvious edit I saw was I'm pretty sure that Zatch was naked in that opening scene and they just painted on the boxers.
-
I dunno, the boxers looked way too part of the animation to be fake.

If the shorts added on Gash were not "Obvious" then I don't know what is. The scene of Kyo giving Gash a bath was choppy. The dub has some pretty big names from the dubbing industry in it like: Debby Derryberry ( Jimmy Neutron and Ryoouki from Tenchi) Michelle Ruff ( Fujiko Mine), Philece Sampler ( Misao Makimachi) David Blum (no need for an introduction) and Mona Marshel ( Motoko from Love Hina). The only bad thing about the show is that there were way to many poorly done edits and The "Baka Yaro, kuso, stale, always the same frickin voice, Crispin Freeman was in it. Whay can't that idiot stay at (and ruin) one company. Honestly I beleive the only dubbing company he hasn't worked at is Funimation. Thank you Funimation for not letting him into your studios. :( B)

Dude, they were twitching. He was naked in the Japanese version. You have to remember, Toei like nudity ( Dragonball anyone).
-
well, I wasn't really paying that much attention. Usually when I'm watching TV I'm doing something on the computer too.
The boxers weren't really un-called for, though.
-
.. . . what was wrong with Crispin Freeman?
So are you giving this dub a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down"?

**He can't voice act or change his stupid (put on) gravely voice. I can't say anything about the dub until I see 2 more episodes. I've been watching subtitled: Dragonball, Evangelion, Yu Yu Hakusho and FMA for the past few days, so I have to get used to English dubs again to give my opinion. I hope this made since
-
All in all, i'd say ShoPro did a decent job, a lot better than what 4kids or Plastic Cow would have. I've seen the original series, "Konjiki no Gash bell" and must say theres only a few things I don't like about it (compared to OP and SK's god awful dubs.) First is the name changes: Kiyo=Kiyomarou, Zatch Bell=Gash Bell. Next off is the boxer edit which was done so badly that if it were in the original, it would look like they had been swimming in startch, and the bath scene. I do like the fact that they refer to the demons as "mamono" like in the original jap version instead of "evil beings" or "dark ones" like 4kids would do. Hopefully naruto has as decent a dub as Gash bell did and drop to your knees and thank god 4kids dosent have it.

I thought that this dub was as bad as Duel Masters(sounded just like it to me with all of the pitch warpy, stereotypical, and annoying voices)
That kid sounded like….Jimmy Neutron!?If Naruto sounds anything like Jimmy Neutron then I will drop my television set out a window from the second story of my house.
If the Naruto dub is anything like that show.... :( -
Wow, you obsessed otaku types sure are harsh.
-
He's not an otaku. He lives in my area and does nothing more than make fun of and refuse to watch any of the fan favorite anime like Evangelion, FMA, etc. Any person his age (Roronoa Zoro) that watches the "kid friendly" Naruto obviously has issues and a little growing up to do.
-
I didn't expect it to air that fast… ah well. I doubt it would compare with the original, and I'd obviously compare it, I haven't watched it yet, and I might not, but dubs are like a train wreck for me... you can't turn away, but if the episode happen to go up on bittorrent I'd certainly check it out. I hope Anime Destiny keeps subbing it, it's a good series, and I don't wanna have to stop watching because of the dub
-
I don't mean to offend anyone with my aforementioned opinions, I'm simply just stating what I think of the dub. And "zatch" is played by the same person that voices Jimmy Neutron on Nickelodeon.
I'm definitely not an otaku, cap'n carter.
Except for maybe the One Piece manga.(because of VIZ, I have to buy the Japanese versions and I guess by buying the Japanese version and learning to read it, that makes me a One Piece manga otaku)
Other than because VIZ change things in the One Piece manga, I have to buy the Japanese version because I will not wait until 2010 to get to Nico Robin(joining the crew) in America. 0r 2030(slightly exaggerated) to get to Franky in Viz's version(if VIZ still exist by then).
 :rolleyes:If Naruto is for children, Viz Hater, then who is the show this thread is discussing for?? What age group??
If Naruto is for children around ten years of age, then ZB/GB is for newborns.

What is Zatch really ??? Why didn't he knew that it was a trick, wait there was a bully on the roof.
Kiyo is an genuis, but don't have no friends. He should be a college student.
-
There are very few dubs that can compare with the originals, the only ones that stick out in my mind are the Miyazaki dubs.
However, for a dub I thought Zatch/Gash Bell was pretty well-done. As said, I haven't seen the original, but nothing seemed really strained or had the ear-marks of all the bad dubs I've seen. From what I can tell they didn't cut or put "white-flashes" in the violent scenes.
And I didn't make the Zatch-Jimmy Neutron until you guys brought it up. Thanks a lot, now every time I see him I'll see Jimmy.

**According to the original series, Gash is a demon who was fighting to become the "King of Devil's" but lost his memory. Thats why Kiyomarou's spell book is unreadable. Supposedly when the book is completely decifered he will regain his memories (Ala, Yu-Gi-Oh! style).

i like the dub, i could all the edit they did to the episode.i couldn't tell if i like the voices or not because i never seen the origianal verson, soo far i like it and it was funny.
like Satsuki i didn't noticed the jimmy thing until u guys pointed it out to us.
-
I hope they put out the DVDs and hopefully the movie "Konjiki no Gash Bell: The 101 Devils" uncut. It kicks so much ass uncut.
-
I thought the first episode was pretty good, but I didn't like Kiyo. He was a bit of a jackass.
-
Just saw the dub. 'Zatch's' voice was a bit wierd and I just simply liked the original voice a lot better. Also, is it me or did the horribly fail at pronouncing Zakeru.
Momoto?
O.O
WTF?
They are Demons, are they not? -
you can find some fansubbed episodes of it at Gash Bell fansub site
-
Today's episode was really good, minus the Shotgun being changed and poorly edited into a laser gun.
-
I figured that would happen but apparently we don't have to worry too much about blood edits because in the ending credits it still shows a pic of Gash with blood running out of the side of his mouth. Thats a plus compared to all the edits certain other dubbing companies make. (Cough…ahem 4kids....cough!!!)
-
I thought the gun was a Michelin tire gun.
-
Is Suzi Kyo's friend's real name, or is it changed/shortened?
-
The "Baka Yaro, kuso, stale, always the same frickin voice, Crispin Freeman was in it. Whay can't that idiot stay at (and ruin) one company. Honestly I beleive the only dubbing company he hasn't worked at is Funimation. Thank you Funimation for not letting him into your studios.
Obviously you didn't hear the excellent job he did as Kouichi in Digimon Frontier. That was probably the only time he voiced a depressed lonely boy and he did it so perfectly. And it wasn't the same andry voice he always uses.
And Gash Bell was ok. It's bound to get better.
I was laughing like hell at the machine gun/ray gun edit.

Shortened from Suzume, if I'm not mistaken. Just like how Kyo was taken from Kiyomaro.
I'm waiting to see what how they handle the whole Boob Groping song from Folgore that shows up in almost every episode after his introduction.
-
Er, they'll probably skip it or rewrite the lyrics.
At least the dub names they give them sound like or are derived from their original names, rather than just give them completely new, waspy sounding names.
-
The only bad thing I can fnd about the dub is the violence edits. Like most members of this site I subscribe to Weekly Shonen Jump, but I also subscribe to shonen sunday and have all the issues since Konjiki no Gash Bell has started, and I must say, I've been a hardcore Gash Bell fan from the first chapter and that it kicks oh so much ass uncut. Its on par with OP on the blood flow and Bobobo with the slapstick and vulgar humor. (That should get the violence, Bobobo, and OP fans out there to check it out..heheheheh.)
-
I've only watched one ep. of the dub but….... >_< It isn't bad at all, I know, but I personally think they could've done better......... I mean with the names and whatnot... Zatch?? Why not Gasshu? And the theme songs...... they need to be kept! lol But oh well I guess....
-
Here's some scenes that havent made it into the dub and a few that never will unless it's released uncut.
A Bit of blood that WILL be cut (Though it's not much.)
Another scene from an upcoming ep. with blood coming off Gash's face which will probobly be cut.
The reason for the boxer edit in Episode 1! (Avert yer Virgin eyes!!!)
Gash see's Suzume's panties and embarasss her. this scene as completely removed from episode 1.
I'll post more unedited pics as soon as i can find some.
-
The last 2 links don't work.
-
Ironically enough. laughs
But considering some dubs, Gash seems to have come out fairly well.
-
I found another link for the Boxer edit and a pic from last weeks ep when Gash fights Reikomu the ice devil that had Kiyomarou with a bloody mouth. Hope these will tide the purists over till I can find more.
The Reason for Episode 1's boxer edit.
Bloody mouthed Kiyomarou from episode 3 (edited out)
Also, some people have asked me about charachters names and who they are (other than Gash and Kiyomarou) and some of the storyline so here's some of them: SPOLIER WARNING!!!
Konjiki no Gash Bell!! (Means "Golden Gash Bell!!" in english) is a manga by Raiku makoto running in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine and an anime by Toei Animation. It follows the adventures of Takamine Kiyomarou and the devil called Gash Bell. The basic plotline is Gash is sent to Kiyomarou's home by his father to help him make friends. Gash has no memories of his past life and posseses a little red spellbook. We find out later in the series that Gash was only one of 100 devils on earth with human partners. The must all fight with each other until 99 are dead and the last one left is crowned "Devil King", but that is the least of their problems because all are after Gash becuse he was the prince of devils before he lost his memories, including his evil double Zeon.
Kyomarou and Gash Bell: The heroes of Konjiki no Gash Bell!! Gash's spells are Zakeru (A Lightning balst from his mouth and Gash's signature attack.)) Rashildou (A shield that reflects any attack) and Zakeruga (A more poweful version of the Zakeru spell.)
Hosokawa and Reikomu: The duo who were robbing the bank in episode 2 and 3. Hosokawa was a poor factory worker until he found Reikomu eating frozen fishes in the warehouse he worked at and took him home. After learning about how to use Reikomu's Spellbook he used it to get revenge on his boss for firing him and then make himself rich by using Reikomu to rob banks. Reikomu's spells are Gikoru (An Icicle Spell) and Furizuudou (A spell that freezes his enemies.) He is accendentally killed by Gash when his spellbook is destroyed in the middle of their battle.
Sherie and Bragou: The blonde girl and the gothic looking devil who are spying on Gash and Kiyomarou. They try to take gash's red book from Kiyomarou but he fights back against them. They take the role of Gash and kiyomarou's rivals. Bragou's spells are Reisuu, Gurabirei, Gikashi reisu and the Ion Gurabirei.
Pargo Folgore and Kyanchyome: Folgore is a pop idol in England and is also the posseor of a devil child by the name of Kyanchyome. Kyanchyome looks like a duck and transforms into various things. Folgore is very perverted and everytime he makes an appearance he sings a somg about boob fondling. Kyanchyome's spells are Polk, Kopolk, and Decapolk.
Dufour and Zeon: Kyomaou and Gash's archenenemies. Zeon is Gash's exact double and has every spell that Gash has but is very evil.
Hope this does you all for a bit till I can find more pics.
-
in the japanese version, isn't the voice of gash the same as chopper's? it's really enjoyable!
btw, i just watched the first 7 eps, it looks good, but the story is not really there…. i keep watching coz gash (or zatch) is really hilarious
-
hey Shinigamithe3rd….. the pictures won't open
-
I wonder what they are going to edit " CHICHI WO MOE " into.
-
This is a pretty cool show. Not anything spectacular, but pretty neat and entertaining. Zatch/Gash's antics are funny as hell. I think the coolest demon kid so far was the plant one..
-
I like it, but is anybody else annoyed by the fact that Gash is played by the same guy who does Jimmy Neutron?
-
I would be if it didn't work so damn well.

Does it really matter who else the VA played? As long as it sounds good and fits the character which I think Zatch's does.

@anime606:

It's some crappy song where folgore talks about himself… or something like that
.> <.<
CHICHI CHICHI OPPAI! BOING BOING!!!!
sry, just had to do that
