There are several fans that do not like dub name changes. I'm personally okay with it, as long as they don't get rediculous names (Mint -> Corina Bucksworth :blink: ). So what are you're thoughts on this subject?

I don't like them. I think maybe I've just never seen many good dubbed names yet or maybe it's the fact that I've just finished watching Tokyo Mew Mew and One Piece before answering the poll. But I don't like them.
I read more manga then I watch anime though, so dubbed names won't keep me from sleeping. -
Unless you're an insomniac. I wonder what the worst dub name is?
-
:huh: That's a tough one. Hrm, for now, all I can think of is either Corina Bucksworth or Trey Racer. Although for Trey he did say his name was Horohoro, and I think his sister called him Horohoro once in all the shows.
insert ranting
For french dubs (oh dear), Pokemon actually takes the cake. They call the main character Ash and Sasha in the same episode. They do it so many times you're starting to wonder if Sasha is not another character you've never heard of. They also give nicknames to the pokemons and call them by both name in the same episode.
For exemple:
Ash: Go Charmander!
Charmander: *with obviously taken voice from english show Char Char!
Charmander takes a hit
Ash: No! Dragon feu! Hang in there!Viewer: Who on earth is Dragon feu?
end ranting*So yea, back to the point, it's hard to decide which is the worst one. What with so many horrible names going around.
-
I say Corina Bucksworth. Such a stupid name <_<
-
I hate it when they dub names! <_<
-
I really don't care, as long as the changes are incredibly ridiculous (Zeke).
-
I'd usually prefer the original names but I really don't care if they are changed. Like what was said before, as long there not something rediculous. I did like having dub names in Case Closed though.
-
I didn't. Then again, I haven't watched Cased Closed but the name "Jimmy" doesn't make me smile. Probably because I've gotten to used to the original names while reading the manga for a year or so before it was dubbed.
-
Some dubs name are okay, but some don't sound good.
-
I don't mind most of the time, unless the name change was really unnecessary, which does happen a lot. I get over it eventually.
-
I really hate them to be honest.
-
I normally hate them (the producers really have little faith in kids if they think they can't handle Japanese names) but I'll keep quiet as long as the names don't sound utterly ridiculous or don't resemble the original names at all.
Sailor Moon example:
Michiru -> Michelle. Reasonable change.
Mamoru -> Darien. The hell!?
-
I really don't like them.
The crazy ones piss me off, because they're so off character. Hao = Zeke….
And the small ones make me ask "but....why?!" Ren = Len
-
Yeah.. Some of the Shaman King dub ones are really odd..oO;; Where'd they get Trey outta Horohoro..?oO;; ok, yeah, I can understand the kids not being able to say them&stuff, but they could atleast have tried harder..oO;; I understand the Chocolove to Jacko one but, why change Hao ot Zeke..? Zeke's kinda like Bob, it just doesn't strike Fear into the hearts of the Masses..oO;;

I think the worst name changes i've ever seen are:
Dragonball:
Mr Satan=Hercule (Gayest DBZ name change ever)
Kaioshin=Supreme Kai
Paikuhan=Pikkon (Sounds like a pie convention)One Piece:
Zoro=Zolo (Reminds me of the candy, Rolo's…not a badass swordsman.)Detective Conan/Case Closed:
Shinichi Kudou=Jimmy Kudou (Reminds me of a gay 60's comic hero for some reason)
Ran=RachelF-Zero-Falcon Densetsu/GP Legend:
Suzaku Ryu=Rick WheelerYu-Gi-Oh!:
Jonouchi Katsuya=Joey Wheeler (And the so called "uncut" DVDs from 4kids go as far as to gay it up even more and call him "Katsuya Joey".)
Player Killer=Panik
Kujaku Mai=Mai Valentine
Pegasus J. Crawford=Maximillion Pegasus (Makes me thing of that rich kid from tiny Toons.)
And Marik's G.H.O.U.L. origanization=Rare HuntersShaman King:
Oyamada Manta=Morty
Tamao=Tamara
Ryu=Rio
Chocolove=Jacko (I think they wanted to stay away from the fact an African charchter is named Chocolove but they still could have picked something better than Jacko...makes me think of Micheal Jackson.)
Morphin'=Chloe
Hao=Zeke
Horohoro=Trey -
The Ghouls were also known as Rare Hunters, I believe…
-
what about Manta=Morty….. that's the stupidest name change..... is it so hard to say Manta...... and yes Zeke is a dumb change too... Hao isn't hard to say either, I guess the companies thought kids would confuse his name with the word "how"?
another thing that comes to mind are some of the Digimon name changes:
Izumi=Zoe
Jinpei=J.P.
Tomoki=Tommy
Kouji=I'm pretty sure they kept this the same
Takuya=same
Kouichi= I think they left it the sameI can't really remember the others......
-
I think they changed Manta for Mortimer, but everyone calls him Morty. As for Hao, they should have kept it the same because it kinds goes with Yoh. Yoh, Hao, sounds like the name you would give to twin brothers. For Yugioh, I also don't like the
Honda Hiroto = Tristan Taylor
or Anzu = Tea Gardner <_< -
Tristan….. sounds like a brand name for crackers....... lol
-
I donâ€
t like them at all. Iâ€
m against any changes of a work of art – it was done that way on purpose. (Not that I really watch the dubs..)

I only went by a source on the internet. Hell, I've only seen the manga for sale ONCE and only ONCE so I've never read it.
-
Has anybody ever noticed that the name changes from 4kids always have 'jobs' for last names?
Tristian TAYLOR
Tea GARDENER
Joey WHEELER
Trey RACERIts a conspiracy!

Seeing as how I've mostly watched dubs, name changes really don't bother me too much. In some cases, such as Detective Conan, the Americanized names work, since it makes it easier to keep track of suspects, and most of them only appear once, then never seen again.
…although, in my personal opinion, Eri Kisaki's (Eva Kaden) dub name should have been Ely Queen.
