Game is finally out after a year-long delay!
A faithful remake of the original and its sequel, with a fresh coat of paint, voice-overs, and a tabletop-esque art direction. I think even the dialogue font is quite similar to the one used in Link's Awakening, if not exactly the same one, which went with a diorama look! The series has pushed through many troubling obstacles:
- AW1 released on September 10, 2001 and was delayed in Japan and Europe due to 9/11 - JP didn't see even get to see the release until 2004 as a part of a bundle
- AW4 in Japan was cancelled but became available ~5 years later as a downloadable platinum status reward
- remake Switch version delayed due to the war in Ukraine
- remake doesn't have a JP release (yet)
As a fan of another GBA game that struggles to see light, it's great to see this loved series from the same GBA era get another showing. I hope it succeeds!
The Advance Wars series:
- Advance Wars (GBA)
- Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising (GBA)
- Advance Wars: Dual Strike (DS)
- Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (DS)
- Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp (Switch)
The original Advance Wars was developed by Intelligent Systems. If you liked Fire Emblem, it's worth looking into.
This remake which contains the first two games was developed by WayForward.
Shoutout to one of the animators!
And for those who care, some of the voice cast on the twitters:
