Either I recall Warped being the easiest of the three or I recall being really good at Crash by the time Warped came out.
Although, I was terrible at the Egyptian stages.

@MDL:
It's just always been the game that comes to mind when people mention Sonic.
It's like, THE iconic image of Sonic to see him running through a Green Hill Zone loop. But I guess that doesn't necessarily translate to being loved as the best game.
Every game has a Green Hill Zone. Lots of people recognize that image, but they remember it from ten or so different games.
So, two things:
1.) They've stated that they won't be fixing the awful hit boxes that make the games much harder than the originals. Basically, they're saying "git gud".
2.) They just released Stormy Ascent, the even more difficult version of Slippery Climb that was cut out of the originals because they didn't have enough time to balance it. I was hoping they would include it, better a tad bit late than never.

Is Stormy Ascent the comic con news they teased? Can't find any sources on it or info on how to get it.
As for the whole bit where they refuse to patch the game mechanics, I'm glad. Lots of people seemingly need to get out of the habit of finding something hard and bitching about it instead of learning how to deal with it.

It's being handled as an add-on. You can find it easily in the main PS menu, press down on Crash Bandicoot and on the bottom you'll find it on the PlayStation Store.
The thing here is though that the game was already difficult by itself and the wonky hitboxes add a challenge that is not one by gameplay design but rather because of the poor nature of the engine. There is nothing fair about slipping off the bouncy turtles in levels like The High Road because you landed 1µm too close to the edge.
To Stormy Ascent itself, it wasn't too bad. I did lose like 30 lives but don't feel like it was overly unfair to the player. They probably would have been fine to include it as one of the optional levels so your story progress won't be halted because it is too difficult for kids. But I'm certainly not going for the gold relic, that's just torture.

Thanks, just played the level and it was very fun. The escalation of mechanics was pretty great and I like the nature of the N. Brio bonus as well. Definitely feels like a worthy final level for the game, though for the remake only. I cannot imagine this level with the punishing mechanics of the original.
Regarding the difficulty thing, the reality is that it's ultimately still not that big of a deal. Yea, it's a different hit box, but there is still control you can develop over it in order to sufficiently master the game. People make it sound like the game is impossible hard now, which is just not true, or that this ruins the game, which aside from some brutal levels in the already-admittedly-poorly-designed crash 1 is just not the case.
Yea, High Road was a pain. But people are still doing it regardless, because that's the nature of games: to learn and adapt. In the olden days a lot of games came to us outright broken, and we conquered them, because that's what it was all about. People crying foul over such an insignificant change because it made them die more than they like? It flies against the entire notion of what this game is about, which is learning how to conquer a level with the given physics and tools.
It's ultimately not a question of fairness or not. It's a question of "is it something the players cannot reasonably learn to adapt to?" and the answer is that they totally can. Several people having platinum relics and impossible speed and dexterity and expertise shows that with dedication it's just like any other platformer, something you learn how to play and get to enjoy while you master it.
tl;dr: git gud is the right design response, and I have respect for vicarious visions for not bending to the polygons of the world and changing it.
So finally wrapped up my Crash 3 play through (Got 104%, have no desire at this time to get that last percent). Thought I'd lay down my thoughts on each game, having never played all the way through the originals before.
Crash 1: Playing it first, it was fun, but after playing the other two it would be harder to go back to, mainly with the lack of abilities that you have in Crash 2 and 3. Got all the gems but did not do any of the time trials. I'm not great at platforming games, but I feel like a number of the levels in this game are just designed to be brutal, especially with the bridge levels. Between the two bridge levels, I died at least 50 times, and there were a number of times I felt like the hit box screwed me over in that respect. Having to bounce on the turtles at the edge of them, there were times where I should've landed on them, but instead I fell through. If you took out those two levels, overall the game was enjoyable even if frustrating at times.
Crash 2: Out of the three, this may be my favorite one. Being able to slide was a nice mechanic to be added, and I don't remember being frustrated with any of the levels. Some were harder than others, but I never felt frustrated at them like I did some with 1 or 3. Any death I had felt like it was my fault. If I had one major complaint, it's how the final boss was extremely easy. The bosses in these games I didn't really care for, but when I can beat a boss in my first try in under 30 seconds, it feels lackluster. I guess one other thing I didn't like was the jetpack levels, so in some ways having the final boss be easy worked out in a way. Got all the gems and did all the time trials.
Crash 3: I think the level designs overall here were the best, but I like it a little less than 2 because I just did not like the vehicle sections. I did eventually get the controls and it became bearable, but none of them were really fun for me. The plane and water ski levels were ok, but I really disliked the motorcycle levels. These levels are the main reason I don't want to get the final percent in the game, as time trials can be frustrating enough, but doing those on levels I don't like just to get gold or better is something I don't feel like doing.
In the end, I liked all three games and glad I played them. The difficulty I feel is a bit overblown in some ways, but there are legitimate issues where the game will make it harder than it should. Besides the bridge levels, there were multiple times where enemy hitboxes seemed to push me back, and caused deaths that should not have happened. There was one level in three where many times I slid into an enemy, but I ended up reversing course, and a few times that caused me to fall in a pit. There was also a water level in 3 that seemed to get buggy. There were times where I had to swim past the rotors before they started up again, but many times the swimming animation slowed down when above it, which caused me to die because it stopped me from getting through in time. While these deaths account for a very small amount of all my deaths, they still at times would take me out of the game because of how annoying they were.
