Either the writing or the TL feels really stilted in this, hard to get into it with the awkward phrasings used. Moderately interesting premise, so naturally I'll keep reading it forever even after I realize it's actually trash.

If the author wants to stick with that routine of killing off the main cast, it would best be applied with consistently growing time intervals between the deaths as that would maximize the emotional impact on the reader. Doing it too often would make it stale very early.
That aside, it still hit me like a truck :'(

It's important to realize that Fushi is the main character of this series and that his journey to wisdom(?)/adulthood is the primary focus. Everybody he meets along the way only further adds to the former's learning experience and helps Fushi understand the concept of life itself. Thus it's important not to get emotionally attached to any of the "side characters" in order to avoid bawling like a little kid.
Good thing there's no risk of that happening with the old lady that tried to eat Fushi (watch the author make me eat my words in 3 chapters' time).
On the contrary, I think that it's precisely the attachment to these characters that is most important. It's their bond to Fu that is helping him to learn and grow, as you said. So, for the exact same reasons you've provided, I come to the exact opposite conclusion.

I read the Gugu arc in a row. That’s nice character growth. The master of Fushi seems to see him growth just by learning new forms but Fushi shows him that friendship and love are also a kind of growth
About the Knockers, it seems they learned from the former encounters.

Definitely Gugu. Rinn finally admits that she loves him, he won't get to live to know and appreciate that.

You couldn't give 'em a happy ending, huh manga? Damn you Gugu for that gigantic you'll always have me death flag. This is my favorite arc so far because of Gugu (and Fushi's development). Interesting how the afterlife is an eternal illusion of happiness. Points for never showing us Gugu's post accident face. The reader's imagination was all it needed.
GG, Gugu. Not that you're gone gone I'm gu-guessing Fushi will leave after the old folks die. Or, he could look after the store. Either way, Fushi will be alone again.

Somehow, the author is finding a great way to prevent this story from becoming too repetitive and depressing. Pyoran, and even hooded guy are very welcome returning side characters. I hope that Pyoran can play a bigger role in this arc…
! … and even if she does die soon, as this latest death flag would indicate, it wouldn't be the worst thing. Fushi is learning a lot from each new encounter, definitely the most from the last one. I get the feeling that new characters are going to be less and less likely to die in the future, due to his continuing efforts to get strong enough to protect them. After all, Rynn did survive the last arc!
