I know that the marine HQ can serve both as an entrance and exit, but what about the pirates? Oviously thy won't go through thw Marine HQ. As far as I understand the current is way to strong to go UP Reverse Mountain from the GrandLine. So how did pirates like zeff, Arlong and Krieg leave the GrandLine?
GrandLine Exit?

This is a popular question. All we can do is guess, could be that they will simply have to force them selves to cross the risky Calm Belt - by some reason it might be easier to get out than to get in. For an official exit, I've imagined something short of this: Grand Line. While the Reverse Mountain serves as the entrance, the up coming "conjunction montain" could have a conversed effect.
-
Yeah I also always imagined that coming out through the calm belt is easier then coming in. Since the Grand Line has more climatic irregularities then one of the four Blue´s it wouldn´t be that far off. I mean we´ve seen know up streems that were strong enough to blast people towards the sky. Why should there be other similar things that can send people through the Calm Belt?
-
I was thinking that a really strong DF person could make one of the sea kings take them through the calm belt.
I got this idea from how we have seen Moomoo (I couldn't eat beef for a whole week after seeing the episodes he was in), Yokozuna and other large animals being tamed or at least willing to help humans. If it works with them, then why couldn't an even larger animal be persuaded to assist?
-
Well that truly would work with strong guys like Mihawk for instance. But how do the weaker guys like Krieg get back?
-
You know, I never quite got that. According to logic, his bones should be resting on the bottom of the ocean somewhere in the grand line. He never should have made back, let alone with so many crew members. The only thing I can possibly think of is that Mihawk drove and chevied him along a particular route. It's no fun if your prey just sits there. Maybe Mihawk wanted to screw with Kreig's head a bit by letting him think he was getting free, only to attack again. Sort of how a cat plays with a skink…am I making sense?
I'm thinking Kreig probably got out through Calm Belt as his men and he were starving. It would take some time to get through all the food stores and they could probably do like SH and try and fish. He seemed pretty prepared going into the Grandline with the number of ships & crew so I can't imagine him not stocking up on food before hand.
-
Well actually Kriegs return would work with my above mentioned theory that there might be climatic influences that can boost you through the Calm Belt. If we remember Gin´s words then he said that if it wasn´t for the huge storm, the flag ship would have been destroyed too. Maybe in this storm there was a strong enough wind or whatsoever to boost them through the Calm Belt. Would actually explain why they´ve all be suffering. I mean Mihawk didn´t get to the flag ship so they should have been in perfect condition right? But it was just a wrack. Could be possible that they´ve encountered something very destructive elemental power and that delivered them back. And that would even work with Krieg wanting Zeff´s log so much.
-
It's not about how he got out but how he got a whole fleet in. Those vessels were huge!

I was thinking that the flag ship could have been knocked about by sea kings but yours makes sense too. The only thing with the knock up stream is that it happened very quickly. If there is another force that could propel ships across the calm belt - entirely possible - presumably it would have to be quite powerful (enough to damage the flag ship) and therefore Kreig & his crew would get to the other side quickly…yet Kreig & his men were starving.
I suppose we are left with Mihawk being completely unharmed, not a plume out of place and his coffin-ship being undamaged because he is so bad assed? I can live with that
I actually took Kreig wanting Zef's log to get back into the Grand Line so as not to as many nasty surprises i.e. people like Mihawk.
@ Yoska - I wonder if even half the ships actually made it into reverse mountain (if that is how they got in). That slit in the mountain was quite small and even SH had difficulties even though GM was a caravel. Of course they had no rudder thingy and a homocidal manaic on board but apart from that...
-
So? You gonna tell me that Kriegs ship was to big to fit there?
See how small the Going Merry is there? I don´t see any reason why Kriegs ship should be to big to maneuver that route. And as far as it being a fleet of 50 ships is concerned. They probably followed each other and didn´t sail next to each other.
-
I actually meant getting into reverse mountain. Remember the bit where they were looking for the entry and almost missed it? Before they started going up.
Um…are you sure that is the Going Merry in that pic and not a bit of flotsam? It looks awfully small...

That was because they were very far aways and the mountain was so huge. The entry river is huge but from a far distance it may appear small in comparison to that huge mountain. Just as Laboon is super gigantic in that image but still is a shrimp in comparison to the continent Red Line he is constantly banging his head against.
Um…are you sure that is the Going Merry in that pic and not a bit of flotsam? It looks awfully small...
Yep that is the Going Merry. The scene starts with a close up view and then zooms away.

Right…I try and limit the number of silly things I say a day. Needless to say I think I have just gone over my quota. The solution is simple, I think I'll head off to bed.

The gate
GM compared to the gate
GM compared to Baratatie and Grieg's ship (Does it have a name, the Grieg's ship?)
Top of Reverse Mountain
Bottom of Reverse MontainI would say Oda just didn't bothered to think about it… The ship can't possible fit under that gate. Although it's possible that Krieg didn't even use the gate but went straight through the Calm Belt as he really isn't the most informatived person in OP.
-
Umm I don´t see anything wrong with the size of the entrance in the pics you´ve just linked to Yoska. Mind elaborating what you meant with these?
-
Actually, the Krieg's ship is even bigger…
-
But on the pictures you´ve linked to there is not evidence that the size of the entrance is as in the drawing you made.
Are you familiar with how size differences can be misinterpreted when you change the angle´s or point of views? The only angle/point of view that always gives you the most correct impression is the total view and for the upward stream there isn´t such a thing.
The only totals that we have are the one with Kriegs ship at Baratie and the one with Laboon. And there Kriegs ship would actually fit in perfectly. It´s all a matter of the point from where you are looking at the scene. Like when your hand gets bigger then a car the closer you pull it towards you own eye. Get what I mean?
-
Also.. maybe Krieg went through the Calm Belt.. he had such an enormous fleet. Atleast I remember someone made a point about this before..
-
We have a problem here, don't we? I can't base my arguments on anything else than what we have seen in the comic; I did go through all the scenes and that's the avarage build.
maybe Krieg went through the Calm Belt.. he had such an enormous fleet. Atleast I remember someone made a point about this before..
My point exactly.
I see three options:
- Oda didn't care (I don't really care either)
- Krieg went through the Belt
- The Gate and the Top of the Mountain are larger than what appears
-
- The Gate and the Top of the Mountain are larger than what appears
I go with this option because of what I just described with angles/point of views.
It´s not just Kriegs ship there´s many large ships in One Piece. Actually there´s only the Going Merry that is a little ship. Even if Krieg would have went through the Calm Belt, what do you do with all the other big ships in the world? It´s impossible that all of them go through the Calm Belt and if that would be the case then Rivers Mountain wouldn´t be labeled as entrance to the Grand Line after all since no regular sized ship would fit through there then.

.
no its an iceburg shoot it down quick
sry just had to do that, but as for the exit. im not really sure, maybe there is and exit when crossing the redline for the second half of the grandline.

That does make sense, perhaps there is an exit via the redLine.
