Yay. Was the only game I wanted for next gen consoles so far. Hopefully isn't not released half a year later.

In case people might have missed the mother base infiltration footage , here is the video ;
I'm actually kind of conflicted about what they're calling "open world" in this game. This is all based on these videos so it could just be the way they're playing them. Every video I've seen ends with the player extracting with the helicopter, one that they don't even pilot. This leads me to believe that the game is made up of various open areas separated by load screens initiated by the helicopter. What I want to know is, in the mission they've shown off a lot of times where you get info on where Kaz is being held, can you go by foot/horse/vehicle to the area where he's being held or do you need to take your helicopter and initiate another mission? Could I steal an enemy helicopter and fly back to Mother Base with an appropriate distance between the area I'm at and Mother Base? They keep saying it's open world but there isn't much evidence I'm seeing in these demos that the game is actually open world and not a series of large areas separated by loading screens.
Yeah, this definitely isn't true open world in the sense you can go anywhere without quick travel.
I think it was obvious very early on that there are open world areas that you choose to go to with the helicopter.
If it is open world in the way you guys are describing it wont hurt my feelings too much if its large zones that arent completely connected. I dont get too excited when im told "you see that ridge way over there? you can walk all the way there too", thats probably my least favorite aspect of what many devs tout open worlds with, discovery is fun, travel not so much.

On another note heres the trailer for the now cancelled fan made re make of metal gear (msx). They even got hayter to join, a shame konami squashed it though (even after they said it was ok at first)

Why? I can see that if the environment isn't interesting but even if the environment is essentially empty of enemies I love crossing large open worlds if the overall gameplay is fun and the environments are at least interesting to look at. I really haven't found a game that offers that though so I can understand why you would not like the idea by playing most games that do have large open worlds. Lost Alpha is my favorite but that's not a single open world and does have loading screens. I feel like a completely open world stealth game could be cool if pulled off well, and I'm sad that MGSV isn't going to attempt that.

Maybe thats part of it for me, ive yet to find an open world game that has offered as much gameplay wise as well. And if the means of travel are enjoyable and diverse enough it could win me over, options are always good. Although i do enjoy the fact that you can sit through the whole ride back to mother base from how it seemed, the connection in that way is pretty cool.
From some short direct that Konami did earlier this morning. Quiet has some sort of invisibility power like everyone already thought. It kind of looks like teleportation but you can see that she actually falls like normal and then uncloaks. I've seen some people say she might be dead and a ghost, which kind of fits with all the other supernatural stuff we've seen (though the earlier stuff is also thought to be a hallucination).
Nanomachines guys, nanomachines.^^
I doubt nanomachines are involved. This game is set too early for that. Unless everything in MGS3 was nanomachines too, which I doubt.
Yeah I don't think they are involved as well, just was making a joke.^^

Depends on how much real-world realism this game is going for.
It's not. It's either going to be nanomachines (which like I said aren't really a thing in the story at this point) or supernatural stuff like the powers in MGS3. I think the most realistic MGS is 1 (2 is kind of similar as well) and it still has a psychic character, a cyborg ninja, and a guy that survives a helicopter crash. Oh and a shaman that can talk to crows. 2 has a vampire (which is retconned in 4 to be nanomachines) and a girl that can deflect bullets (which is initially explained as technology but then is apparently magic).

I don't think his faux vampirism was retconned so much as they explained how Vamp could take shots to the face and not die though for some reason that couldn't heal the scar on his forehead. Never explained why he able to walk in sunlight though.
It all makes sense. Nanomachines were first used by the Cobra Unit in a last ditch attempt to beat Rudolf von Stroheim

He jumps out doesn't he? I could a sworn looking at his parachute triggered a codec call.
I don't remember that. Did this happen in Twin Snakes? Maybe they added it in that. But yeah, I don't remember any parachute in the original game, and I'm pretty sure when fake Miller calls you later he looks like he was caught in an explosion or something like that.

Or his ability to walk on water. Its one of those details i can enjoy in its absurdity, supernatural powers are throughout the series so the quiet and her abilities are the norm. Im more curious about what it can allow her to accomplish more then how its possible.
Well going by this she can at least turn invisible. People are also thinking that she may be related to the End in some way and so her skin can absorb light and use that as energy. Also the black that keeps appearing around her eyes also makes it look like she might be able to use her skin as camouflage, kind of like the octocamo in MGS4. She was originally introduced as a side character and potentially as a boss character but now it seems she does contact Snake and the others at some point, potentially joining them, but then again she's being tortured by them at some point too. And it's also a decent guess that focusing so much on her and the person that plays her in the game does seem to hint that she isn't just some minor character.
Didn't Kojima say something along the lines of her being the main heroine (whatever that possibly means) anyway
Crossing my fingers for more areas shown at tgs and a release date for march 2015 at the latest.^^
Call me crazy, but I have a strong feeling we might actually have this game before 2015.
@Corson:

Which would be sometime within the next three months and somewhat doubtful being that the game hasn't been advertised for a 2014 release AFAIK.
It hasn't been advertised for any release. I remember seeing an image of some magazine hinting at a 2014 release date but I kind of agree with you that it is a slim chance. I don't think it will get a 2014 release date but it would be very nice if it ended up being released before the end of the year. We should get a release date at TGS.
Double post for TGS stuff. The first presentation starts in about 6 hours.

I mean it's not unbelievable they'd made multiple branching paths. They did it in TW2 and they did it in Alpha Protocol. I want to know how many things like this there are. That Twitter is by the guy who runs one of the oldest MGS fansites on the internet so I doubt he'd post stuff he wasn't 100% sure of.
Edit: Part of the gameplay demo at 60 fps
The video isn't where that comes from, but from the tweets saying you can miss content depending on how you play.
Looks like tonights konami show revealed another new companion, in the form of a pet wolf to assist snake by the name of "DD" (get it).

They played the same stage demo, but went about doing so differently. And you can see how snake comes across this wolf in the video below

The decoy was also the ghost from PT this time. There's another stream starting in a couple minutes but I think it'll just be about game development, not really that helpful when everything is in Japanese.
This Twitter account is somewhat translating though
Cute wolf puppy and grown up badass eye patch wolf? Hype level rising even higher.^^
The stream after that stream was essentially just about the Fox Engine. They did show the tool they use to make levels though, which looks a lot like Crysis' in which the game is run in real time and you can drag and drop things. Would be great as mod tools for the PC version but I doubt that's going to happen. The Ground Zeroes one was the voice actors talking and then doing a live script reading of the cutscene where Quiet jumps from the helicopter. Then they showed off a few clips people sent in of stuff they did in GZ. Overall not really worth watching. There are two more streams tonight though. Hopefully one of them includes a release date, but Kojima said 2015 at one of the streams so maybe they don't have anything more specific than that. I also want the damn release date for GZ on PC.
I kinda want to see P.T. to come to PC just so modders can take a terrifying thing and make it hilarious.
Another stream up in a little under an hour. It has the same title as the one yesterday and the day before so it'll probably be the same gameplay demo but played differently. I think there's one later too.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Welp, that stream was pretty pointless. No real new info They showed some concept art, did another live reading, talked about suggestions for the game that were sent in (Ocelot isn't a buddy at the moment but might be), and then the rest was Kojima (who looked like he was on something) playing with the soundboard.
When doesn't Kojima look like he's on something?

Correct if i am wrong but didn't Kojima stated that he wants to tell a very specific story in Phantom Pain ? This "depending on your action" stuff doesn't really make sense at least to me.

I think if anything its really only going to apply to some of the characters you can meet like quiet and DD, and possibly how well they can help your missions from then on. I doubt we will get something in the realm of the story completely changing.

Hilarifying?
On topic, these new TPP videos have done their job. I'm at least 80% more excited than I already was!

I think those branching paths are just related to gameplay. Regarding that demo, Quiet probably no relation to that mission. I mean that in the sense that she won't be appearing in the cutscenes. She's just like a second player, really. If you're friendly with her, then you'll get help. If not, then no help. But when she's a part of the story, the mission, she'll be there.
Dunno, maybe you'll get some extra missions if you two are on good terms. Wouldn't put it past Kojima to throw in something wacky in there.

I hope you guys are right about this being a gameplay stuff rather than story .
Eitherway i have no problem with it as long as Kojima knows what he is doing with this "buddy" system .
Meeting Quiet and DD will open up sub-quests that don't necessarily impact the story. Also Kojima confirmed that both (and I assume other buddies) can die and they will stay dead permanently.

You mean during a story-related mission or side-quest? Cuz Quiet dying in a side-quest wouldn't really make sense considering how she seems to be a central character in Phantom Pain unless i am getting her role in Phantom Pain really wrong .

Is she though? I mean most of what weve seen of her hasnt really involved any heavy story stuff like rescuing kaz or really interacting with many of the others all that much. The most weve seen is her getting tortured, and appearing before the other soldiers which could just initiate when shes recruited. I think from what we have right now she might not really be essential to the game as a whole, but a worthy ally that would be a shame to miss. Although who knows i could be wrong on that too
Didn't kojima mention though that she plays a big part in the story, or am I thinking of something else?^^
Well since she's completely able to be missed in the story, as in, it's possible you'll never meet her, unless they have branching stories she's not a central character to the story. And if there are branching stories then her dying would just revert to the story she wasn't in or some variable of that. And it seems like it's side missions or story missions.
There's some more info on that twitter. Apparently Kojima said he's not putting himself as a buddy because people might abuse him. Also letting buddies too much of the work of mission (like having them kill too many people) will lower your score. I really hope the scoring isn't too easy to get the top score in. I want to have to try missions multiple times. The AI from what I've seen (at least in GZ) looks pretty stupid though. There was a video they showed off at one of the panels at TGS where some guy was just slipping behind people, like right behind them, without them noticing.
