Um, practice. There's nothing else you can do, go grab an SAT practice book, and just start practicing taking the tests. Also, skip questions you don't know, you're better off skipping than guessing, even if you can eliminate one of the answers.
I can't emphasize this enough though, practice, you've got a month, I suggest practicing daily of possible, or every other day. Just time yourself, do practice tests, and don't panic.
-
damn dude. 1440 and you're not happy? i got 1210 my first try and i stopped, i still got accepted to ucsd. ^^;
i guess i have no ambition.
-
1440 is really good, so don't freak.
But the only advice I can give is to take practice tests. That's the best way to improve your score. -
1440 is awesome. Where the hell are you trying to go, Stanford ?
Anyway, I did absolutely nothing for my SATs - no practice, no nothing - and I landed a 2010, which is relatively high. Just chill and don't stress out about it.
-
If I'm right, he's taking the new SAT, since the old SAT is no longer offered. The score now is out of 2400, not 1600. Just wanted to clear that up. I don't see how you can say you 1440 is great when you yourself got 2010 carly, oh well.
-
I can say that 'cause if we're going by the old way I would only have a 1360.
-
I got a 1740 last time, but yeah, I really want to get a higher score because I know I can.
Like wandererzero said, skip questions you don't know/are unsure of and come back to them later; when making a guess, try to eliminate at least 2 of the choices.

Even though I'm only going to be a sophomore (starting tomorrow omg) and have only taken the PSAT, I'd recommend you start by knowing 'advices' is incorrect.
And if you feel like imminent doom/failure is upon you, don't worry and relax. I didn't and ended up bombing the math section.
-
Oh riiiiight, the new SAT. Don't know if I can help ya there. Well, practice tests are still the way to go, I think.
-
I took an SAT prep class and it did wonders for me. my score in math was terrible on the PSAT and it went up by over 100 points of the real SAT because of the prep class. Also, they made me write essays so much that my writing got better too

Hm..my english teacher is one of the many essay graders. She gave us some useful tips after she came back from the training sessions.
1. Write in legible print. (This is pretty much a given. The graders take a couple minutes to skim an essay, so if its not legible, then yeh.)
2. The graders are supposed to grade essays based on the structure, word usage, vocab, etc., but NOT ON THE ACTUAL CONTENT. Therefore, if you make up information, they can't take off points for it. Unfortunately, this doesn't always work, as teachers are probably more tempted to take points off for it. So you should only do that when you're desperate or something.
3. Don't waste time writing a conclusion if you didn't elaborate on your examples thoroughly. The body of the essay is most important. As for conclusions, one or two sentence can be sufficient enough.
So yeh, good luck. I'm also retaking mine. But thanks to those tips, I got a 10 on my essay.
