First showing of the open world for DW9.
Gads, there's lookout towers to expand the map. WHYYYYY.
And the map looks kind of empty except for the city battles. This might be a really bad idea guys…

The idea is that the activity on the map changes depending on what time period you're in. An area that's quiet in one period is teeming with soldiers in another. A city that's peaceful at one point is a battleground in the next
They also showed plenty of rural battles in that trailer alone, and have confirmed that there's subevents like Raids and bandit attacks on the map in order to keep the action up in between major objectives.
You can even forgo raids and other sideevents in order to make the difficulty of the main objective harder by just running into the middle of things like a madman
Okay, all of the returning characters have now been revealed, and I think there's not going to be any new reveals, as well.
Fully updated. :)
When you get the game, immediately switch the voices to either Japanese or Mandarin. The English voice acting quality is like some DW3-level of crap.
But DW3 voice acting and its camp was half the fun.
Let me rephrase it. Apparently, there was some sort of strike of the VA's and as such, all of the characters are voiced by scabs who are sub-par. Especially Dong-Zhuo's wheezy, guttural voice.

So basically Megaman X4
Hyrule Warriors, Pirate Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors left me sated of the warriors game for at least another half a year. And if I get the itch to mow down enemies, I'll go with FEWarriors, as Lyn and Ryoma were very entretaining, and forcing enemies to "Pick a god and pray" made me happy beyond words. I really want the sequel tho, with the good games characters this time.
^ Hell of a short list.
Wow. Sounds terrible and like everything wrong with open world games while carrying none of a musou game's strengths. After Dragon Quest Warriors I thought that was how it would work but apparently not.
Also not mentioned in the review, no couch co-op split screen, which they've been phasing out since 7.
Welp guess we shouldn't count on them fixing the more problematic issues with the Extreme Legends update.
Feels like it reverted back to DW5
…Yeah. I never played 8 which was apparently good, but that's because 6 was terrible and 7 removed the couch co-op that was super crucial. Also felt Orochi 3 was basically the pinnacle of what the franchise could do... But overall the series stagnated and messed things up and I found other outlets for the same experiences.
....like Warframe.
Musou Orochi 3/Warriors Orochi 4 has been announced. Hopefully, the gameplay isn't based off Dynasty Warriors 9….
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
If this game has the full rosters of Dynasty Warriors 9 and Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada, we're looking at 155 characters, and that's not including the Orochi-exclusive ones, either.
Im super happy about this Just please for the love of god dont do a DW9 with it.
Yeah but if has the full DW 9 roster then they all have the wrong weapons. I'll take legitimate variety over sheer numbers.
….I think I'm just on the Warframe train now. 35 characters but super crazy variety and role niches, and mission variety too.
Zhao Yun looks more like his DW8 model in that video, and if it's being released this year, they've probably been working on it alongside DW9, so my guess is that the Dynasty roster and looks will be based on DW8.
Not sure if this is the right thread to ask, but would you recommend Hyrule Warriors or Pirate Warriors 3 (both for Switch) as my first musou game?
Played both, liked hyrule warriors better.
It is hard to explain why, but it just felt more fun and rewarding, even with the overabundance of links.
The fact that every legend of zelda is a complete closed history, instead of just a snapshot of an ongoing history like pirate warriors makes the full package better. It is treated as a standalone zelda that just happens to be a musou, instead of the retelling of most of the OP plot, with Pirate A taking the roles of characters that were impactful but didn't make the cut as playable or supports, like Squardo, Disco, Helmepo, etc.
While Hyrule Warriors has: Link, young link, toon link, Linkle and Ravio, with Link and toon Link having like 7 movesets between them, each of these movesets is mostly unique, Master Sword being the most similar one, while base Link is a proper knight, Toon Link relies on wild swings and getting dizzy to do the job, while Young Link is an unortodox character who is based on not the sword, but the fierce deity mask as his attacks focus on getting the super mode resource and become Fierce Deity. The rest of the cast is pretty varied, with the base game that focused on the 3d entries characters, and this version includes the dlc characters that focused on the handheld entries. Some relevant characters don't make the cut, but something from them gets adapted in the game, as the Oracle games bosses have some lookalikes in the dragon Knight Volga and the evil witch Cia.
Pirate warriors has tons of characters, with the crew being the only repeats (and maybe smoker), having the Warlords, the admirals, Garp, Smoker, Tashigi, Perona, Caesar, Whitebeard, Ace, Sabo, Ivankov, and some of the arc bosses (of the top of my head, Enel and Lucci) as playable, with most other notable fighter (Axe Hand Morgan, Kuro, Krieg, Alvida, Vivi, Kaku, Jabura, Mr2, Hachi, Mr1, Arlong, Hody, Coby, Monet, Wapol, a Lapan) as unselectable supports/bosses.
Forgot to say this when it came out, but the big bad for the new Orochi game is Zeus, and only the mystics remembered the events of the other games. Also, no guest characters like Kasumi or Sophitia.

I' ve played both (noth the swtich version. PC for PW3 and DS for the HW) and I guess I have a bit more of love for Pirate Warriors 3 but that's because I'm much more familiarized with OP than with Zelda.
So I'd say start with the franchise you like the most.

Thanks. I guess I'll go with Hyrule Warriors. I like One Piece as a series more, but I'm in more a Zelda mood right now. And that part about HW feeling more complete seals it for me.
