This week everyone hid a Strawhat on their series.
I didn't realize that. Guess I'll have to re-read.
-
In the 20 anniversary thread is the list of the ones already found.
-
Hilarious chapter.

Mimasaka has always been a favorite of mine and he just gets funnier with each spot in the limelight
-
He's starting to look like a Marvel superhero.
-
I'll bet Tsukasa, Megishima and Saito will win
-
I'll bet Tsukasa, Megishima and Saito will win
Yeah no Rindou isn't losing her 1st match. That be like Erina losing her 1st match.
-
It will be either 2-1 or 3-0 sweep for Central. No way Tsukasa or Rindou gonna lose now.
-
That, only mimikasa has a chance against sushi samurai. Rindo might turn cloak and let herself be beaten, or chew more than she can swallow, and waste all of her character.
-
Warning: Contain too much Mimikasa.

I'm glad that Saito is a stealth tryhard and not just a generic stoic guy
that makes him a very authentic teenagerI like his fair fighting gimmick too, nice to see someone not be a huge dickhead in this manga
-
Mimisaka win you bastard!!!
-
Subaru is like the Rock Lee of this series: the one I actually care about.

I wanted to get get a Subaru fan art signed by Tsukuda when he was over here in Los Angeles a month ago. Didn't get there early enough for his Q&A/panel though…

This was a hella trip. And now we are finally ready to go!
-
What the? Why did Rindou and Megishima switched spots on the last page?
-
What the? Why did Rindou and Megishima switched spots on the last page?
They are already oriented that way on their spread.
-
Lookibg forward to finding out who wins in 2 months
-
Yeah…i think it's pretty obvious who is going to win this round. Though it will take a month to get there.
-
To me is not that obvious. The author managed himself well to cast a lot of doubts on us. Tsukasa vs Kuga aside, the other two are a toss.
-
I mean its kinda obvious that they will 0-3 it, and then most matches will be toss ups until we get Soma+ Erina vs Tsukasa+Rindou finals.
-

That final is still possible if Tsubaru wins.
-
The only one I can see winning is Mimasaka, as he is now portrayed as 'the rebel's biggest weapon'. The rest is a sure loss though.
-
At this point I see Central winning all 3 of their bouts. Rindo and Tsukasa being obvious winners since they can't go down until the end. As for Mimsaka against sword guy, it feels like for trying to make tension rise up, you would want the rebels biggest weapon to be taken out as soon as possible. Heck, showing that just copying a person with a change in a few things shouldn't be enough to win against the Elite 10, but then again, Soma won because Ramen girl made a slight error. Still, my bet is on a clean sweep with the opposite side this time, though I feel like each round should've been split to keep things interesting.
As for the current matches, I'm a bit conflicted with how everything has gone down. In one way, there has been a lot of fun little interactions and faces from the various competitors. On the other hand, I feel like there hasn't been enough time to focus on each individual person in each match, so while I like what I see I wish there was a bit more to see. Despite that, I've been happy with the last bunch of chapters overall.

I love how this arc is pretty much going against the major central them of the story.
A good story would have kicked all of these people out and had the main cast deal with the fact that they choose to enter a school/career that is cutthroat and only takes the best, and how they deal with that. Who is willing to make that sacrifice, who is wiling to put the craft beyond their friends.
THAT would be a good manga.
This is not.

But it's pretty much the same thing that is happening right now.
-
But it's pretty much the same thing that is happening right now.
But it's not
Because we all know what is going to happen. Soma is going to beat them, and all of his friends will get their expulsions removed. The series will end with the entire main cast successfully graduating the school. Even the second tier characters are going to make it through. If the author wanted to create real stakes, at least ONE would have been kicked out now in an attempt to show that, yes, this school is that intense. A good story would have done that. Naruto did that , fucking BLEACH did that.
But no, instead everything is gonna hold hands and make it through together, and there is going to be no negative consequences or price to be paid at all. AT ALL.
Just you fucking watch.

So you saying they should just leave Tootsuki and become better chefs without them?
Because the story was all about graduating there. That was what this was been all about. It is the main goal of the seires as Luffy finding the One Piece is. And they are putting their own careers on the line by challenging the best of the best despite being first-years.
And no negative consequence does not equal bad story either.
It is a good manga at the end of the day.
Forgive me if I mistook whatever you wanted to point out.
-
The second chapter (or is the first? I can't remember) directly states that only 10% of the students graduate. Right there, at he start. They lay out the high stakes of the school, they DIRECTLY state that to the reader.
What has the author done with that? Nothing. None of the named cast has been kicked out. Yes, the one girl almost got kicked out, but she was saved. Everyone else? The second tier characters? The people Soma has beaten? All still there, all still around. And I'm sorry, but that's complete bullshit. He has failed to follow through on the central setting and premise of the story..
I don't expect much from a Shonen series. They are made for young boys and it's foolish of me to try and expect them to cater to me, a white western man. I get that. I know that going in. That doesn't remove the fact that this author had an interesting premise and decide to go the Mashima route and cling to his status quo like a motherfucker.
-
None of the named cast has been kicked out.
Why would you expect this anyway? Why would losing a battle against Souma mean you should drop-out? Of course the main crew won't get written out of the show. Who would you say should've gone away and for what reason?
Also, you should know that in the current arc about 8 people of the main crew have been eliminated. Of course, they'll return, it's a shonen manga, but they have lost and have been expelled.
-
I kind of get what you are saying, but the challenges that they were put through to get there were unfairly weigthed against them, akin to finding Mihawk in the east blue or Aokiji in long ring island, they were put directly against the elite.
There's also the fact that these cheffs are part of the top 16 of the school's first years, while the rest are central hanger-ons, you aren't cutting the fat with this move, you are culling the top class over a hissy fit of the director.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
And it's not the first time, Soma defended megumi back then when the french cusine dude tried to expell her, not because it was right, but because Megumi did a good job and he just shut her down for not following the recipee.
Kind of what is happening here but in a school wide scale.
-
This arc is different, because there is an outside force trying to fuck them up.
What about before? What about during that election period? Or that stag-whatever. Why couldn't one of the cast been kicked out then? It would have been perfect to show how intense the program is. But no, everyone gets through, no pressure, no stakes, no worries. It's bullshit.
Megumi getting a save from Soma is fine. It would have been better if the powers that be told them afterwards "This is a one time thing, and you won't be able to save all your friends"
But nope, the premise is just betrayed over and over again.

There has been students that have been kicked out. But of course not someone from the main cast.
And everyone expected that and still enjoyed the ride. Because if anything you pointed happened it wouldn't be interesting.
-
Why wouldn't it be interesting? It would create stakes, it would create tension. No one cares about the nobody background people, but when someone who has a name and character design? That would be something.
That would be interesting read, instead of just knowing that no matter what happens, everyone is gonna get what they want with no price to be paid, with no negative consequences, with no struggles, or effort.
I'm sorry, but that's not good story telling.
Neji dying created stakes, Jiraya dying created stakes. Ace and Whitebeard, or Ussop leaving the crew created stakes. Ichigo getting curbstomped by Ulq for that one glorious chapter had more tension than this.
How can the author expect people to care about his characters when they do nothing to earn what they have? That they'll just be carried through the story against the very premise you've built your story around?
Again I'm not expecting much here. I know what this manga is. I get that, but fucking at least DO SOMETHING.
-
It is doing something. Just not the something you want.
And really? You're gonna pull Naruto and Bleach knowing they are objectively bad? Hell, I couldn't feel anything for for Neji.
-
Naruto and Bleach are "bad" and there are plenty of flaws to go around.
But they had tension, stakes, and real character drama and conflict, regardless of how flawed that ended up being.
This..does not, and probably never will.
So yes, it is doing something I don't want. That's OK. Not everything has to cater to my interests. I can still criticize it though. Mostly because, like Fairy Tail. There is a great story just waiting beneath the layers, but the Author refuses to take the plunge.
-
Well, at least we didn't have to wait for a month to get the confirmation who won.
-
! As expected, pretty much.
-
this series has been garbage for a good while and not because of azami.
-
Speak for yourself.
! Damn, not a single vote for neither from the Rebels side. And now they have lost 3 of their wild cards.
-
! As long as best girl Tadokoro is in we're fine.
-
! The cause of their crushing defeat will be explained next chapter according to the editor's note.
-
Well colout me suprised we got the results this chapter! Absolutely destroyed
-
Soma is thinking "Oh boy. Here I go do everything by myself again."

When was the last time Soma showed anger?
-
When was the last time Soma showed anger?
I believe it was in his rematch with Hayama when he was too busy being an edgelord to take Soma seriously
-
Surprising absolutely no one.
Now let us all get comfortable as Soma kicks all their asses with his magical protagonist powers.
