Didn't someone already answer your question in the FUNimation DVD thread? For that matter what relevance does this question have to this conversation?

It would be nice if Lil Kis was unable to make new threads anymore.

Oda always says he mostly writes the manga for 15 year old boys. So, it is a kids show, but more for older kids. I wouldn´t recommend it to a ten year old, but anything over 12 is ok. I think the Funi dub fits that target group quite nicely.
10 year olds can watch One Piece.
Just cover their eyes when the bloody scenes and sexual innuendos pop up.

Seriously the 4kids dub nearly ruined one piece for me. I had to get over my preconception that one piece was crap in order to start reading. There are a lot of people I couldn't convince that one piece was good because they saw one of the first dubbed episodes and thought it was stupid. Maybe the people who say the dubs by 4kids are good read the manga first or the 4kids dub wasn't the first they saw of one piece. Because if it was they might not be enjoying it right now.
-
I told my friend that the 4Kids dub was a bad representation of the series, she believed me, read the manga, and enjoyed it. I guess you got to find an open-minded person, otherwise it's their fault they're missing out, not necessarily 4kids.

Well let's just say the reason one piece isn't popular in America is because of 4kids. Took an extraordinary amount of willpower and lack of manga to read to get me into one piece and it shouldn't have been that hard.

"One Piece" is unpopular in America for multiple reasons, one of which is 4Kids, and it's somewhat debateable their dub is the main reason it's unpopular here. People seem to forget that when it was on Toonami it also got really good ratings.

It got on toonami long after it was on fox or wb or w/e and by then the damage was done. The reason it's not on toonami anymore is because of the terrible first impression.

Wrong.
"One Piece" did terrible on FoxBox/4KidsTV, but when they reran it on Toonami it did great. Before "Naruto" showed up on Toonami it was the highest-rated show on the block. I think it helped that Toonami targeted a slightly older audience than 4KidsTV.
The ratings for Toonami were good enough that they ran the rest of the episodes that 4Kids dubbed before they cancelled it, episodes that were probably originally meant to air on 4KidsTV. Cartoon Network was willing to let the show continue so even after 4Kids was done FUNimation picked up from where they left off and dubbed the next season.
So why did Cartoon Network let it go? The direction of the channel changed. According to a FUNimation rep I talked to years ago at Anime Expo, Cartoon Network expected the ratings to go way up once FUNimation's episodes started, which was not the case. According to a rep at NYAF in 2007 the ratings were going up gradually. So yes like most cancellations it was a case of ratings, but depending on who you talk to the ratings weren't low per say. And I certainly don't think it's a coincidence that they eventually let "Naruto" go, which was one of their highest-rated shows, and that all the anime they ever air now is something toyetic.
And of course "One Piece" can't be on Toonami anymore if Toonami no longer airs, which it doesn't.
-
Well I guess you're the expert since I have never watched a dub on purpose since one piece aired on the foxbox.

I thought the reason OP was taken off of Toonami (before Toonami shut down) was because the Funimation dub didn't rake in big enough ratings albeit, it was still bringing in relatively good ratings. This may have been debunked, I'm not sure. I just feel that if OP was really that bad and got bad ratings, the 4kids dub wouldn't have lasted for 104 episodes.
(Edit: firecrouch just answered the question. XD)In my opinion, there are many variables to why some people don't like OP. The main ones I hear is either: 1.) exposure to 4kids version turned them off of it, or 2.) art style is too weird. I've been able to get a number of people into OP by telling them that it's a manga that has a lot heart and passion behind it, and that the story and world is so expansive that it leaves so much room for discussion. One of my friends (who I had gotten into OP long ago) loves talking about all the different characters, who he likes, hates, the different powers, and potential powers, etc.

Yeah I got my friends into it by slandering 4kids and telling them the manga was awesome.

I never watched the 4kids dub. How terrible was it? I wonder what Luffy sounded like?

I don't think it's as god-awful as many fans say, but it's pretty damn bad. Check it out for yourself.
-
I watched some scenes of the 4kids-version and i was just shocked.
What they have done to that anime (which i think hasnt a good style anyway((at least at the beginning)))was just cruel. I can
t blame any american watcher who thought that series has to be a joke..i myself would have never ever cared about such an anime again!Watch for yourself:
Having a watergun as a marine..and just look at Helmeppos "thing" there.
Thats rly rly rly bad. -
For me it was the writing and acting that really killed it.
-
Debating about a pile of shit and where exactly it may be less aesthetic is what we`re doing.
-
The Bellmere censorship was the worst 4kids moment.
-
Why do we still care about 4kids?
-
Vivi's 4Kids voice sounded soulless.
