the current rules regarding polling are more than dumb to say the least, in fact dumb would be an understatement but alas you run your ship how you will, so i thought ok then to make things a little easier on everyone and allow people some freedom, why not make a special user group which users can work their way into where only that user group is given polling privileges? makes a little more sense wouldn't you say?

that way if someone not of polling stature would like to make a poll they can make their three, call a moderator and request it be added while good posters are inconvenienced.

It's good that you have an idea, and I'm glad you felt you wanted to share it.. but is it possible that maybe… just maybe... a better way to do it would have been to NOT reem the rules we have in place before suggesting your "superiour" idea?

So, what you're saying... is rather than have it so everyone can suggest a poll and ask for approval, you want a special, elite group of folks who can make whatever polls they want to however they see fit.

Somehow, this doesn't seem like all that great an idea to me. But that's just the opinion of a person who's COMPLETELY put off by the approach you chose on your suggestion.

Making extra group is just another trouble. We have so many members and we can't just hand pick every single "responsible" person to be the so-called "elite" member :/

the rule is cool, we see less and less useless and boring polls now and it's really ok with me.

there are always other boards where you can, for sure, create all the polls that are in your mind (zoro vs zorro, ep123 vs ep 222, luffy vs water luffy)

what i said is why punish everyone for a few members and mostly newer members being at fault? i mean seriously when you go into what looks like it will be a decent thread and the first thing you read is "did you get permission for that poll" it's just stupid and pointless and mars this community.

i'm not sure if IPB supports secondary usergroups but one in this instance would be great where users are put into it automatically given a time-here:post-count ratio.

and i apologise if i hurt your feelings with my approach however i see that this rule is the most ludicrously misguided i've come across in all my time on forums point blank and i would hope i managed to express that with my post.

Whether you're put off by my approach or not, the fact of the matter is that it's an idea worth discussion in whatever moderator circle may or may not exist.

I can't see what's wrong with the current system. Everybody can make a poll. If it's up to the post count ration, it will encourage posting garbage - otherwise licking the mods.

Wow, it mars the community? Really? How so? Does it really hurt you so much to see a post asking if a poll's been approved? Why does it hurt this community? I think you're putting far too much importance into something that's rather small. Usually, if a poll's approved of, you don't see that post… occasionally you will, just for confirmation purposes, but more often than not it's in a poll that was not, in fact, approved.

It takes all of 2 minutes to shoot an idea to a mod. Honestly, that's not very hard.

But that means you're wanting special priveledges for people based purely on their post count or time on the forum. He's a bit of news for you: some of the people with higher post counts are EXACTLY the people we don't want posting a lot of polls. High post count does not equal maturity or good judgement.

If I may interject…

The rule is fair. We have our share of... err... less-than-proper people to give free polling reign. Giving them the ability to make any moronic poll they like just spams up the board, and diminishes the intelligence of us all.

It most likely won't change, and most certainly not in the way you're describing. It just discriminates, and I agree with Konis: some people with high posts counts just aren't mature enough to merit free-polling power.

Hey, Lurker: If you can't give your opinion in a non-bastardized manner, don't say it at all.

The polling thing works, though some people need to see the actual rule. But yeah, waaay back we had a bunch of really stupid polls. Picture the dumbest topic these days and multiply the nonsense by a hundred. That's how stupid they were. A few polls/topics harken back to those days like "Biggest Anime boobs". They were just a waste of space.

All it takes is 2 minutes tops to ask a mod if a poll about something would be ok. It would be easier to check if there is more than 1 mod online currently just in case one decides to sign off right after you send the PM. I hope it doesn't ruin your day that badly.

And yes, just because you have a high post count doesn't automatically mean you are a smart, respectable member with common sense and maturity. Most of the times, it just means you have alot of free time to type up short posts with little to no substance like "Lol. This chap is GRAT!!1"

as for the polling i think the way it is beeing handled now is fine and i agree that posts count doesnt nesisarily mean maturaty

Anyway, i think the reason why the polls have to be reviewed is mainly because of the numerous amount of VS polls which can be kinda annoying. Who wants Luffy vs Ace polls? -_-

I came to this forum about same time as the poll rule was made. And when I first read about it I thought â€œthis is stupidâ€œ, but after reading and looking more of forums old topics I started to think what really is stupid, is that this forum really needs rule like that. Common sense when making topics and polls could be used sometimes. Why itâ€s not, mystery?

What I wish added in this polling rule is little. When making new poll, could there be little line added, like â€œthis poll has been approved by xxxxâ€?. So everyone would see that poll is okay and first replys to topic wouldnâ€t be stuff like. â€œIs this approved?â€? I am sorry, but I get sort of annoyed by that.

Sorry about grammar and language, I am bit tired and my head hurts.

i concur with mariana, it can sometimes be off-putting to read that the first reply to a poll is "has this been approved?"

if you can't put it in the title, maybe you can just pm the creator, or the mod who approved the poll could pm the other mods.

Aside from that, you're member #777, cool.

We do track it at our side, but sometime we forget to inform others when we approve the poll :P
