Romeo is dressed like Natsu. A hint the effusive dragon slayer is nowhere to be found?
Fairy Taint Discussion II

Fairy Tail will be the new Naruto in terms of mentioning why they hate timeskips everytime a good series does one.
It's pretty hard to surpass "three years of training with a legendary master bring no progress" and "seventeen months aren't enough to speak with my dad", but I believe Mashima can do it.
-
OMG, fuck fairy tail, what kind of bullshit chapter was that??
-
K, after a few hours of letting it settle in my mind, I think I will take a crack at the ending.
What the hell was that? No seriously, what the hell? That has to be the worst time-skip I have EVER seen in my life. There was no build-up, there was no fore-shadowing (and no, a random scene of some kid at a harbour shoe-horned in doesn't count and it actually makes the writing even more clumsy), there was no reason for a flipping time-skip! It just came out of no where. Even Bleach had a better time-skip. There was at least a semblance of an excuse. Here? What the hell was this?
Mashima, you cannot just throw in a time-skip for no reason, you hack. There needs to be a point to it. Look at One Piece where the time-skip was used as a tool to allow the characters to grow enough to handle far greater challenges and so they would never suffer such a huge loss ever again as well as allow the factors of the new era to settle down. Or in Naruto where the character failed to rescue his dear friend and went under the tutelage of a great master to become strong enough to save him once and for all (of course that went to nothing in the end, but at least there was a reason for a time-skip). Here? Was there any pressing desire by the character to get stronger, any massive changes in the world, any event that needed fast-forwarding to? Hell, the characters won, if anything they should have been feeling full of themselves instead of anguish over their weaknesses.
Just wait for the next few weeks when the time-skip cements itself as the worst in any manga period as Mashima quickly rushes to restore the safe, status quo with all the characters that haven't developed at all, the world still being the same and the only notable change being everyone's boobs got much bigger.
Oh and the holding hands and forming a circle bullshit was so cheesy and phoned in, I'm surprised Mashima didn't go the whole way and make the characters scream "With the power of friendship!!!".
-
Well, that was unexpected.
However, people are WAY too negative about this. I realise that all of you bash pretty much every other Shonen, the other popular ones at least, and I count myself among you as well - but this wasn't so bad. This is not MEANT serious, so take it for what it is. If all you do is complain all the time, stop reading it. I'm curious as to how this will develop now. The only "foreshadowing" we got was that one time when we saw that guy (Romeo?) about 10-20 chapters back, and it didn't make sense back then - it didn't come COMPLETELY out of nowhere. I liked how Mashima just completely discarded his usual "friendship tops everything and gives huge power up" and simply eradicates the whole main cast in 2 pages. Obviously they won't be dead, but it's still something new that I didn't expect at all. I don't think Fairy Tail is that bad, it's a fun concept, and it's meant as a light read anyways. If you want something more serious, go re-read Berserk. Or whatever floats your boat.
What I find interesting is the parallel with 7 years - it's been 7 years that the Dragons disappeared, then one appears, and now 7 year timeskip.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Still, timeskip only to keep the series going. Smells like bleach.
-
Wait, so… They all just died? What? And suddenly we're supposed to forget about them and move on to some new generation of FT and oh dear goodness I have no idea what this is about.
-
Did Ft become the new bleach and I didn't read it? Damn
-
Fuck it, I'm gonna say it.
This manga is actually worse than Bleach.
-

I'm gonna challenge you on that. Bleach still tries to be serious. This doesn't.

A time skip's purpose is to change the status quo anything else that you tacked onto it is not true. Its not a device to develop characters (that in itself is what the story is for) its a device to bring about change. Once you stray from the norm then you have accomplished your goal. A timeskip where a character just gets older but still acts the same is pointless which is why Naruto,Bleach and One Piece have effectively cornered the market on presenting it as a bad concept.
You don't need to forshadow it(although Mashima did anyway) because forshadowing something that is in its essence supposed to be disjointed and make the reader feel out of place is pointless.
Finally when Fairy Tail finally loses a fight this is no longer important apparently. -
Well, that was completely random. Arc is over, then suddenly nuke.
-
Wow for a long time i actually like the chapher ending.I hope we are going to see more mature guild members now.I dont think they died but flew of different directions around the world similar to One Piece.Everyone getting some power developement , a new member , more mature way of thinking and a goal would be nice.I hope second part will be better then the first

So Acnowlogia is FT Kuma! Everything makes sense now.

@Fire Fist:
Wasn't Dragonball to DBZ's Timeskip about 7 years? Sounds about right, since I think Gohan was 6 when he fought Radish.
That timeskip was 4 years, the longest timeskip in Dragon Ball was 7 years between the death of cell and Gohan's first day as the Great Sayaman.
-
I used really enjoy Fairtail, but somewhere when they revealed a third guy with the same face, I kind just dropped it.
Also on the whole trying to be One Piece;
I can draw water too! Love me~~~<3 Please… -
This feels like Mashima going, "Well this all sucks, so let's start again!"
-
I was getting ready to drop the title if Makarov died, but hell… now I'm interested again. Finally! By the way, how many of you were groaning when they all came back to rescue Makarov? I know I was... ''Oh fuck, now they're gonna collectively kill the apocalypse and throw a party!''

Finally when Fairy Tail finally loses a fight this is no longer important apparently. Why exactly do you think the timeskip in OP was bad though ? It was necessary due to the same circumstances that Natsu was supposed to learn to comprehend after losing to Gildartz this arc but then completely forgot.

So Acnowlogia is FT Kuma! Everything makes sense now.
The Grandline Shanbody Grove 12… On this day the pirate crew captained by Monkey D. Luffy, the Straw Hats were utterly defeated......
And now 2 years have passed.

I'm gonna challenge you on that. Bleach still tries to be serious. This doesn't.
You say that like it's a good thing.
The "humor" that kubo tries to shove in bleach is awfull, while mashima, in the inter-arc chapters manages to get some chucles out of me, even a hearthwarming moment when Cana and Gildartz talked.
Plotwise are both terrible.

I was rolling my eyes during the zerg rush of Acnologia, couldn't help but be reminded of ones of the villains from Tales of Xillia when that fairy girl showed up, and then…everyone 'died', and then bam, seven years.
So…what? Everyone got blasted into the future? Got stuck in some trippy purgatory for seven years? Even though we had already figured out that the panel of the boy was supposed to be in the future, this is nothing if not bizarre. Just...weird.
Kain and Rusty Rose are still around, aren't they?

I'm thinking, not everyone went to the island right? So presumably Fairy Tail the guild is still around? Who has been the guild leader for the last 7 years? Any predictions?

I think whoever stayed there is the leader, but since all the strong mages were wiped out, the guild must be in a poor condition, begin Romeo (the boy) the only hope for FT.

Apologies for the misunderstanding - it's a bad thing, no debate.

If Natsu is no longer the main character, maybe I'll give this series another chance.

Thats big plus if that happens but if the Romeo is going to be it(main character) he will be just copycat natsu.
Anyway i sincerely doubt it,all them survived it im sure of it,this reminds me bit of claymore. -
I'm gonna challenge you on that. Bleach still tries to be serious. This doesn't.
This chapter is just fucking horrible, and it's so bad that it has finally tipped the scale in terms of being worse than Bleach. With Bleach you can expect white backgrounds and horrible plot but this week's chapter of Fairy Tail, with that moment of "Lets hold hands!!!11!!!"…. wtf was that? Is this a manga or a tv commercial for Benetton?

I like watching two horses take a shit and comparing the smell and texture of each piece of shit too. I think Horse#1 takes a more quality shit than Horse#2.

When the spot where Fairy Tail was holding hands changed into a smoking hole in the ground, for the briefest of moments, I felt at piece.
-
Well, I'll give the chapter this. FT finally lost. Oh no, they won against Grimore Hearts which most people predicted but they did lose in the end to Acnologia. Now, for all the people defending Natsu running back to fight for Marakov you have to concede that the lesson….no, the entire chapter where Gildartz defeated Natsu was COMPLETELY USELESS!!! Him getting back up to fight Hades, lol, that wasn't a byproduct of Gildartz's lesson. That was him continuing to fight. That's what he always does and whether or not Gildartz taught him that lesson on fear he would have, guess what? Gotten back up and kept fighting anyway. Gildartz's lesson was tossed aside and made irrelevant and frankly the arc could have done without it. It was an unfortunate waste of time and would have made for less groaning and facepalming every time Natsu basically went and said, "fuck your lesson Gildartz" throughout this entire arc.
As for the chapter ending, yes, it's obvious the old members of FT are still alive. I don't know who that little girl was but she did something and I believe she's the main reason the old members of FT probably still do exist. Maybe they're in limbo. Maybe they're in hiding for some inconceivable reason. Maybe they actually did die but were later reincarnated or some BS like that. It's just obvious we haven't seen the last of them because scraping your main cast and developing a new one over 250 chapters into the manga is just dumb. It's dumb. In the end the power of friendship didn't save them from a loss but it probably saved them from being killed. That and the little magic girl.
I'm pretty neutral for this chapter. I was thrown by the ending and the surprise has me curious as to what will happen next which means I'm actually looking forward to the next chapter. On the other hand all I could do was laugh when the FT guild ran back and fought the Black Dragon. All I could do was stare flabbergasted as they all joined hands to defend themselves from the dragon's breath attack. Really, if it wasn't for the ending this would have been another typical FT chapter but the ending really saved it for me. I'll look forward to seeing what Hiro manages to pull off…or out of his ass. Hopefully it's the former.
-
Like this?
Yes,excuse me while i barf.I wonder what will be Romeo magic probaly fire related…
-
In before we get some married couples among the missing FT members.
-
If you actually couldn't predict the ending of this arc then doesn't that mean Mashima actually did something different which is what most of you were complaining about in the first place.
-
Honestly, after watching the human puree and monster-rabbit massacre in Blood C, I don't think much is going to phase me for a while.
Speaking of anime, I like how the new opening tries to make Mest and the glasses guy who arrested Jellal look like some kind of threat. Zancrow's colors look a little better, but Azuma's still a neon sign, and Kain is still just plain weird.

Yeah I watched gifs of that….....yeah you are right.
-
Can someone tell me what I just read?
-
@No:
Huh ?
In the last episode the Big Bad apparently massacres the entire town and almost all of the main cast with giant rabbit demons, and we get stuff like…well...I'm not going to link anything, but imagine people getting eaten like shish-kebob's, tenderized meat, ''drank'' like beverages, or bendered (hence the puree). I still don't know if the makers were shooting for sheer horror, or ''so bad and over the top it's hilarious.'' All it manages to invoke in me is mild indignation.

Okay, this without reading everyone else's reactions about the latest chapter:
I thought for a moment that holding hands when about to be hit with a nuclear blast will save them and was ready to call that the biggest bullshit Mashima has ever produced, but the timeskip did manage to save things a bit. I mean it's obvious they did survive with DURRR FRIENDSHIP FRIENDSHIP but at least for now I can let myself believe they are all dead and maybe we get some interesting characters to appear.
Oh well.
-
You better believe it.
Then I'm not gonna look it up.
But curse you for bringing it up anyway !
