Since I took down my old Salvador Dali signature, I heard some great news. It seems that the Philadelphia Museum of Art is having a gigantic retrospective of Dali's work. The link for the museum is here and, if you want to see some Dali paintings (such as his famous melting clocks picture) and quotes, visit the online Dali gallery here.
The reason I love Dali is his unique way of layering his paintings. His pictures have different images depending on where and how you look at them. A sunny beach can turn into a bowl of fruit with a few steps back and a tilt of the head. There are so many interpretations for his work and he welcomed them. He defied convention in all he did and that's what makes Dali great to me.
For this thread, I would like to focus on Dali a bit, but I would also like to talk about other painters (or other forms of art) that people enjoy. I am not well versed in the arts, so it is always good for me to find and come to appreciate these kinds of great works. It doesn't matter who they are, just tell me your interests on the subject (and your thoughts on Dali if you have any). Let the posting begin!
