How about Yoga? It's good exercise and you don't end up breathless. I did Yoga for a while, but since it's far from my home the gas spending was not worth it.
If you do the exercises right it helps you get in shape.

o-o WEll as I will say again.
Doctor checked: Before + After = Good to go.
I was still full of energy and never felt like crap or had any kind of body shock or anything bad happen : ex: headaches,stomach problems, tired, sick- etc etc : Nothing at all.
It isnt bad to lose all that weight off- in a span of 7 days if you are eating healthy food like chicken or pork and vegetables and keeping in stuff like cheese and drinking water instead of soda and working out 30-60 minutes every other day. It's not that bad and it isnt bad for you, everyones body's work differently. If it wasnt a safe and healthy diet it wouldnt be promoted everywhere- South Beach Diet. People I know only lose around 5-7, for some reason i lost 10+ At times.
But you cant say its bad when its ALL HEALTHY- and my body didnt go into shock. And I was checked in by a doctor and went through all those steps in that- if it was bad the doctor would have told me so in the first place. Look up the diet o-o. theres no bad health risks or anything like that.
o-o basically, it sounds bad to you, therefore you dont want to say otherwise- but it is 100% safe.
I was just throwing that out there for the "Fast and easy weight loss = safe".
o-o srsly. how is eating completely healthy an working out bad for you >_> does that even make sense.. i just excersised more than most during that time and that's probably why i lost alot more o-o.. but working out - keeping yourself hydrated and doing that safely according to what your body can handle without going overboard- isnt at all bad for one. o-o. who says only losing like 3lbs is only a safe thing. it depends on your body type, and that's all im saying
Body Type
How Much You Weigh
Healthy Eating
Smoothe Excersise 2 hours a week
o-o doesnt sound dangerous or risky at all . >_>.
I'm not part of this conversation, but this post really worried me. Losing even 10 pounds a week is unhealthy. The people on a show like The Biggest Loser only manage to get those kinds of numbers because they're working out almost full time every day, and start out at morbidly obese levels, so it's easier for their bodies to drop 10 lbs out of 400 rather than someone dropping 10 out of 200. Plus they've got people monitoring their condition and controlling what they eat.
So why is my post worrying you? All the effects you described are effects of losing that much weight on the long term. It's not uncommon for fat people or athletes who are on a diet to lose that much weight. You don't see them complaining about it do you? 10 pounds (4.5 kg) isn't that much anyway, especially not if someone is really fat.
I was gonna suggest yoga too. I was surprised at what a work out it actually is. it's perfect for me cause i don't like getting sore and sweaty and outta breath.
or go swimming. does that bother your asthma?
I just signed up for yoga online for a year. might do some more tonight when I get home.
What about working out? I used to train with a guy who had asthma.
Then again he ran a lot too and I never saw him actually use his inhaler, so I guess he was a less severe case.
@Coralsnake– hey if your having trouble cause of your asthma try this variation. I've taken boxing long enough to do this.
First off wear 2 layers of everything. leggings than jogging pants, shirt then sweater etc etc. With this when you walk long distances you'll create more heat and sweat a bit more.
Carry a water bottle incase your feeling light-headed after a while.
It takes some getting use to. I do 3 layers when I run forcing me to sweat more. **Remember to pace your self.

o.O; I'm doing that, I walk daily but never really sweat, I guess doing this might work for me. Thanks for the idea!:happy:
I believe someone else mentioned it before, but just getting up and cleaning house could help let you two move around instead of sitting at the window, staring at the rain.
It's not some huge thing, but it's something extra.
Besides, admit it, something is regularily unclean around the house unless special occasion forces you to clean it.

does sweating cure asthma?
I believe the sweating is so you drop weight faster without really running out of breath >.>;;;
Well that's just pretty damn stupid. Sweat = water, not fat. Unless you need to make a certain weight class there's absolutely no point to it.
I know, that's why he said to take water with you. Doesn't the heat help break down fat faster though? so it actually gets out of your system quicker?
No, it doesn't. Sweating is a byproduct of the excercise. Putting on a couple of extra coats does raise your heart activity but that's because you're making the running heavier. It's the same as, for example, running uphill on a grassy road.
So, you're saying that running and walking do nothing to actually take down weight? >.>;;;
Wut? Where'd you get that from?
@Usopp:
Wut? Where'd you get that from?
Well, as far as I'm aware, to know an exercise is working you have to either sweat or feel some small pain after it. But since you are denying the idea of sweating helping to reduce weight… I dunno:ninja:.
no offense but your logic doesn't really make sense.
Clothes DO weigh a few pounds.
Putting on an extra layer of clothes would be adding more pounds which means more sweat, but also more resistance.
I got to try that now.
I don't have any sweats though …
@Usopp:
no offense but your logic doesn't really make sense.
I'm sorry :sad:
@Usopp D. Teach– What the hell are you even personal trainer or a physical therapist? If not, don't place your opinion like its fact.
Opinion? More sweating =/= more fatloss is a fact, it has nothing to do with what I think about it.
You still haven't explained your point btw. Why should someone, who has problems with breathing while running, make running harder for himself by adding extra weight?
On a side note: personal trainers and physical therapists are far from experts when it comes to these things. In fact, I don't consider anyone without an academic degree or years of bodybuilding experience to be an expert.
Where's your Degree in Athletics? I've heard many times that sweating more helps you out, it clears your pours and makes your skin healthier for ONE. He didn't say to run, he said to make walking 'harder' by wearing more layers since someone with Asthma can't run, I myself would know since I have it as well. And just to make a point, their are Olympic athletes that have Asthma, it's all about how severe it is and what kind of medication you take. I have a really severe form of it, and no matter HOW bad mine is, my sister's is worse.
I don't trust personal trainers because they won't help you get to your goals fast whatsoever. If they did that, they'd lose you in which they'd lose money, so they try and keep you with them as long as possible. I've had 2 different personal trainers and I didn't do well with EITHER one, and I stayed with both for along periods of time. It's a giant waste. Sure, I'm sure there are some Personal Trainers out there who actually DO want to help you out, but none of the ones I've been with are into that. I find helping myself better BY myself was more effective.
I feel more accomplished when I know my body is working harder when I exercise. If I don't sweat or feel SOME fatigue, I know I didn't benefit myself whatsoever. It's better to keep yourself exercising at a pace where you can just barely breath. Sadly I can't work out that hard the ENTIRE time I workout, but I try to do it often so I know I got some benefit out of the exercise.
Also this isn't a thread where we should be arguing about this or that. One person can do one thing that works, and one can do something else that works, not everyone is going to be doing the same exact regiment of exercise, nor are they going to be eating the same thing as someone else. Everyone is different. Besides, I get super irritated when I come to a thread and see someone ripping someone else's ideas a new one. There's nothing wrong with having your own thoughts, but there IS something wrong with trying to force your opinion down someone else's throat.
Sweating does help you, but only to help cool your body down. Sure, it clears and opens up your pores, but just remember to shower afterwards and etc. I've never heard of it improving the health of your skin, though.
Within the last 2 1/2 months I've been working out, I've barely sweated (in comparison to others that sweat a lot), and have gone down from 164 to 153 lbs.
As for personal trainers, I've gotten nothing but great results from them in Houston, specifically the Lifetime Fitness I go to currently. They know and understand my limitations, and have put that into consideration when I worked out and etc. To be honest, to expect favorable results, your willpower to put off the weight and to meet up with them at the gym is key, since they do their part in being there for you, since they work there.
"It's better to keep yourself exercising at a pace where you can just barely breath."
I honestly don't think that's a good idea, but that's just me. Whenever I power walk on the treadmill, I keep it at a set speed that's just the right setting to where I can keep my tempo without having to exert too much force and lose that tempo. If you exert yourself like that, you won't have any energy to do other exercises and will burn out of energy too quick.
I'll turn up the speed for 3-4 minutes, but I'll lower it back so that I don't lose that tempo/heart rate that I'm trying to keep constant.
Just my thoughts on all of this, since I've sucessfully been dropping weight week after week without breaking a heavy sweat each workout.
Some people can workout for an hour and barely sweat, it all depends on your body. Sweating does help clean out your pores and cool your body but like Hoffy said thats about all it can do.
Like thats why people sit in saunas and the like, it opens the pores to drain out some of the bad stuff, however you do need to shower after to clean your skin off or it did no good. Some people thinking sweating can shed pounds, but its really just dehydrating yourself.
I sweat but not an extreme amount, because I like to keep the room really cold while I'm working out because I'm so hot natured. At the gym where it's not as cold, I sweat a lot more.
If you can't run or jog, you can always do strength training with weights and walking/brisk walking if possible, but the real trick to losing weight will be your diet. I have some difficulty breathing where all I can really run is intervals, I feel like my throat is going to close off completely if I run for around a minute.
Man I'm pissed, I put in 30 minutes of DDR yesterday and I noticed WAY more progress over a day then I have been by going to the gym. Last time I was able to lose 20 pounds in 2 months with DDR and pilates alone >_> But now DDR is killing my knees and ankles too much to do it everyday, but the fact I had the stamina to do it for 30 minutes (I could have done more if my knee wasnt hurting horribly) makes me happy~
And this protein powder stuff I've been using is magic. I drank it a little after 2 and I was not really hungry until after 7:30 this evening. This is what I've been wanting XD
Well, as far as I'm aware, to know an exercise is working you have to either sweat or feel some small pain after it. But since you are denying the idea of sweating helping to reduce weight… I dunno:ninja:.
Yea this is true. Sweating shows your body is pushing itself beyond it's average capablities and the burn after excersing is you feeling the muscles grow.
As for me I run atleast twice a week with ankle weights. it seems to be working for me.
Also this isn't a thread where we should be arguing about this or that. never heard of feedback? When someone is offering advice that is completely wrong, why shouldn't I question it? There's big difference between opinion and fact. Should people be wasting their time doing stuff that is absolutely not productive to their goals just because nobody ever wants to question each other?
This is exactly why so many people fail at weight loss (or life in general). They just assume everything someone tells them works without ever questioning it or looking up the facts.
@The:

I hope you're not being serious here.
usopp d teach, i think the problem here is instead of giving your opinion nicely, your being rude and snarly.
you didn't need to add that part about people failing at life in general. that's very rude. even I'm insulted and your comments arn't even directed at me.
if you want people to take you seriously, talk to them nicely and respect them.
I don't want any mods coming in here and closing this thread cause people can't talk nice.

True dat Captain Usopp xD I'm putting that dude on my ignore list, I didn't even bother reading his snarky comment anyways.
@Hoffy DUDE.. I am sooo envious of you xDDD You weigh less than me.. I seriously..seriously..need to get on the ball. triumphant fist I can't wait until I get to see you all slimmed down, I dunno when that'll be, maybe just in picture format, but I still can't wait to see!!! That's sooo amazing :D
I'm happy that you've found a personal trainer that works for you, as mine have done absolutely NOTHING to help me out ==;; Then again, this is Muskogee, Ok, not some huge giant awesome place like Houston sadly ;; We only have one 24 hour gym here, and I'm not even currently still a member. It sucks but real life and other bills/things come up, I needed that extra money every month I was spending on it. I think I know how to do it on my own, the whole problem is getting myself out there and doing it. Congrads again Hoffy, I bet you're looking SUPER AWESOME!!!!
@Usopp:
I hope you're not being serious here.
Unlike you yes. Take a health class and gain some much needed knowledge.
Anyone here follow any diets? I personelly follow the "it's not what you it, it's how much you eat" school of thought. And it works for me.
@The:
Unlike you yes. Take a health class and gain some much needed knowledge.
Sweating does not show you are pushing your body beyond it's average capabilities. Sweating means your body is cooling itself down. Just because you're sweating doesn't mean your pushing it. I know people who have way better endurance than me who start sweating a lot sooner while running. On the other hand I already start to sweat after a few minutes of relaxed bicycling.
Muscle burn: caused by the lactic acid buildup during excercise. Has absolutely nothing to do with your muscles growing. Your muscles don't actually grow directly after training, they grow during rest.
You can go around hating me for questioning all you want, but at least I'm giving some proper information.
@Usopp:
Muscle burn: caused by the lactic acid buildup during excercise.
Only thing right you've really contributed so far.
Shut up, pissant.
@The:

That's what my little snacks are for kind of.
If I get hungry? Grab a snack thing to curb the hunger, and then go on.
My snacks consist of nuts, and dried fruits usually because otherwise, I'm not likely to pick up an apple or anything. Most of my fruit intake seems to come from my snacking.
Because I don't need any extra salts or sugars or weird fats.
omnomnom almonds
Also, little quick thing I just remembered. Don't cut out all fats entirely. Remember that there are good fats out there. And I vaguely remember that you don't absorb some nutrients well without fat.
Otherwise, you might turn into a rail at the end or not gain any nutritional value from the things you eat.
@dirt:
Only thing right you've really contributed so far.
Shut up, pissant.
yeah, all the other things I've said are so incredibly wrong that no one can actually reply to it with proven facts. I'm done with this bullshit, you people can go around offending anyone who actually did the homework, who wants to help, instead of giving advice that is based on myths from 30 years ago because you're so damn full of yourself. It's certainly not going to help your progress on the weight loss.
Btw, hurling insults at people on the internet isn't going to make you a single bit cooler in real life.
@Usopp:
It's certainly not going to help your progress on the weight loss.
Except, I've been losing weight.
kthxbai
Man if sweating meant you were losing weight I would never be fat. Ever. I sweat even when I'm not that hot, so freakin hot natured… XP
I kind of wish I could find a personal trainer, however as this gym I'm in is the only one that offers this kind of service, and there is only one personal trainer in the gym and they work really crappy hours its hard to get a spot XP By oh well, hopefully they will start those aerobic and toning classes we all signed up for sometime soon.
So I went to do a little research on if sweating helps you lose weight, (I do agree with Usopp D. Teach) and here is a little of what i found.
http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/features/top-9-fitness-myths-busted?page=2
Fitness Myth No. 6: If you're not working up a sweat, you're not working hard enough.
"Sweating is not necessarily an indicator of exertion," says Tyne. "Sweating is your body’s way of cooling itself."
It's possible to burn a significant number of calories without breaking a sweat: Try taking a walk or doing some light weight training.
http://www.military.com/military-fitness/weight-loss/weight-loss-myths
For decades, many people have used sweat suits, garbage bags or saunas in order to lose weight quickly. You will lose weight in the form of sweat, which is water and electrolytes, but you will gain it back as soon as you eat again or drink water. This myth seems to have spread through the wrestling, boxing, and other sports gyms where guys need to lose a few pounds in order to make a weight class. But sweating excessively has no useful purpose in health weight loss. The dangers of sweating to lose weight are severe – they include overheating (heatstroke), extreme loss of electrolytes (kidney damage/death), and other cardiovascular related emergencies.
http://www.brianmac.co.uk/fat.htm
Can I sweat off excess weight in a steam room or sauna?
Remember you are not trying to lose weight but fat. There is a real difference between the two. Weight could be fat, water or even muscle tissue, whereas fat is fat. The loss of weight through excess sweating as experienced in the sauna/steam room is not fat but water. Such weight returns immediately you consume fluid. Consequently if you lose say two and a half pounds in a session in the steam bath you will replace it with approximately the next two pints of water drunk (one pint of water weighs a pound and a quarter). However and obviously more worrying is that if the fluid loss is replaced by a high calorie drink you may end up gaining fats because of your weight loss attempt.
Frequently clients will tell me they are burning a lot of calories working out because they are sweating so much. While I don’t doubt they are working out really hard, the amount of sweat doesn’t always determine the amount of calories they may be burning. Sweat is simply the body’s way of regulating body temperature but it doesn’t determine if you are burning fat. (Example: you may be sweating profusely while you are in a sauna but it does not mean you are burning fat.)
The best indication of calorie burn is your heart rate or the Rate of Perceived Exertion. This method is a self-reported scale: On a scale of one to ten, one is at complete rest, and ten is maximum effort. Most health authorities suggest you work out from a range of three to five. When your exercise is intense ,it increases your heart rate which indicates the amount of fat you are burning. So although sweating is good for regulating body temperature and ridding your body of toxins, you want an intense workout for a good calorie burn.
I could post more. I put the webMD one first, cause that is a pretty reputable source.
Like I thought, you can lose weight by sweating, but it only water weight and not fat loss. It will return when you replace the liquid you lost.
I wouldn't suggest sweating and thinking that the weight you just dropped will STAY off, of COARSE when you rehydrate yourself the weight will come back on! I mean, I'm the sort of person who wastes my time watching the Biggest Loser. They lose the MOST weight in the first week they're their because they sweat their ever loving BRAINS out. Most of the weight they drop is from sweat/water, so that's why the 2nd week they're there instead of losing 20lbs they only lose 2, which is MUCH more normal as much as that SUCKS AHHHHHH
I still will stand by my words though, I feel MUCH more accomplished if I'm working really hard in the gym/at home and I'm working up a sweat. I know many upon MANY people who don't sweat at all, I don't know how they do it, it's mostly girls. I'm with you Arei, I feel like I have some sort of gene that I was born with that makes me sweat more than others. Being a girl it REALLY sucks, of COARSE you don't want to sweat ALL the time and sweat profusely, but at LEAST if you're working out you don't feel AS disgusting when you sweat, I mean, look at the 300 pound body builder beside you. I mean..c'mon. He's sweating FAR more than you are!! that's how I look at it..when i was at the gym
Going to go walking this morning. DEAR GOD..it is soo damn chilly out. At least I won't get hot and sweaty. I don't mind working up a sweat, but I hate hate HATE walking at the park when it's 300 degree's outside x_x; I know drinking a ton of water is good, but I feel like I could drink 10 gallons going around the paved walk-way 5 times. Thankyou cold breeze.
Fuck, I wore a coat today on my walk, but it was denim, so it got really fucking hot.
Stringy, I agree with that too, but he just went about telling it the wrong way.
It is a good idea to sweat though because there may be some impurities in your body - just replace those fluids with water.
And just so people know. I am NOT trying to lose this weight as fast as I can. I've been slowly but surely changing my diet to smaller portions that're just spread across the day, and trying to find ways to increase my exercize routines. I have a sort of "time limit" for this, but "time's up" in January, and I've been doing well. There's no real goal in mind that I want to reach by January - I just want to lose something by then. I don't plan to stop after January either.
I think maybe he was under the impression that people were implying that you could lost FAT by sweating, which isn't true. Personally I like it when I break a good sweat while working out, especially on the elliptical.
I just can't wait to be off my medication so I can work out again. It cause severe joint pain, and I can barely walk as it is. Blah.
well it was nice you looked up the facts cricky. I knew sweating weight off didn't sound right, but then again, I know I've heard of people going into saunas or sweating in some way to loose weight. even homer simpson's done it, i'm sure. so i was wondering what that was all about.
hey. I feel in a motivational mood. I challenge everyone who reads this post to do 100 sit ups this week!
I'm gonna start tomorrow after work. see how many I can do before I tucker out. I remember when I was really young, I was good at sit ups, and could do 100 in one sitting. I wonder if I'll suck now, or still be decent?
Geezus, I didn't expect this whole thing to get blown out of proportion.
The only thing I was offering was a variation of runnning. Since, I have family members and friends who have asthma, but like to do cardio. I thought this was a good way to force your body and mind it's been done. I mean I did emphasize longer distances but hey what do I know right? Apparently I'm under the impression, I don't know jack squat. But hey if I ever see you guys in a boxing class and under the same regime, then let me know if you guys come across a same variation.

I'd have to agree. If you're trying to lose weight, you gotta run. Hell, even running/jogging for 5 minutes will help. It's better than sitting on the couch and complaining. No one's demanding you to run a marathon, although I have noticed an increase in stamina after running 4 times a week, for 30 minutes each session.
BTW, my hero is Hugh Jackman and I will obtain a body like his in the year to come. Mark my words, ladies and gentlemen.
huh? i thought we were bitching at usopp d teach, for being a jerk, not you? @_@a

If you do then i demand pictures!
I still don't see why everyone thought Usopp D Teach was being a Jerk. He was just stating facts, but people see things different.
I love doing cardio. My favorite thing is spending about thirty mins on the elliptical. I feel great afterwards!
It still throws me off that abs can't be worked on every day, because that's what I did in high school. No wonder I never got anywhere with it until now XD Oddly enough, only my top two "packs" of my abs have good definition; I can feel the other four with solid shape, but my skin has yet to form around them =\ I think I just need to lose a little more weight and continue with extreme ab workouts every other day, but my parents and friends say I've become unhealthily skinny, which, while completely untrue, makes me nervous about losing more weight for their sakes.
I keep going days without eating meat because the vegan and vegetarian options are so healthy and tasty here in college, so every once in a while I'll grab a fist full of roast beef. I've stopped being hungry, for the most part, so I eat completely for pleasure now. My emotional trauma isn't causing me to over eat, which is really nice. I don't even why I'm being so strict about my diet, but I really should increase my caloric intake for more energy even if I am eating exceptionally healthy.
I've found that if I start my cardio/ab days (every other day) with twenty minutes on the stair machine (I'm now up to 120 stairs / minute for this) then I can run five miles no problem and don't get tired out from much else after that, kind of like it gets me in the zone. Normally, I get lazy and stop doing ab workouts/running within an hour, but preceded by the stair master, I have to force myself to stop working out. If I run somewhat cold (only stretching before) I tend to get overwhelmed after 15 minutes or two miles.
I dunno, just interesting things to me.

FINE, I'LL TAKE YOUR CHALLENGE.

Hmm, I reached my peak of about 190 playing football in highschool. I'm 5'11 btw.
After I quit FB I managed to work out about 3-4 times a week just an hour a day. 25-30 minutes running/jogging, and 25-30 minutes of lifting. (Just benching, some dumbells, sit-ups, and squats.)
As for food… I gave up all drinks besides water. (I mean I drank soda/juice/etc. but opted for water most of the time.)
I couldn't follow my schedule every week, but I tried to for the most part. Mon&Thu upper body and core. Tue&Fri lower body.
A year later and now I'm 160. I remember trying to work out in early HS and late ES but all those attempts fell out. In the end, it came down to commitment for me.
Here's a nifty little website. www.mypyramid.gov You can log in what you eat during the day, and it will tell you where you a lacking, or where you a doing good. What vitamins you are lacking from your diet. I'm gonna use it to get myself back on track.
OH god..that site you mentioned Brandee..I remember the FIRST personal Trainer I EVER had wanted my sis and I go keep a food journal through that place.. oh god..we never did xDDDD Ahahaha god I'm such a failure. Thanks for listing it, I had COMPLETELY forgot about that site!!!
My Health Professor (god what a waste of a college class) made us do that too. My diet has been bad, especially since I'm so broke all the time. I'm gonna use this to make sure that I am getting everything I need.
I'm planning on cosplaying Beatrix Kiddo from Kill Bill so I really need to get started on "the body" LOL
