One piece tagalog or korean dubs

^I don't know if GMA7 resumed airing OP but their last airing covered up to Water 7 arc. Sadly, no there is little interest in recording anime episodes here in the Philippines so you won't be able to find these videos in the Internet.
The next airing will cover episode 1 up to TB arc I guess, either at the end of this year or next year. If I'll be able to buy a recorder after I graduate next year, I might be able to record some episodes..
I have no info though for Korean dubs..

^ Is One Piece Popular in the Philippines???
-
Not quite. DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho and Slam Dunk are much more popular.

^ Is One Piece Popular in the Philippines???
It's not popular here actually. Naruto and Bleach are currently much popular. HxH, Ghost Fighter, Dragon Ball, Flame of Recca, Slam Dunk are the only anime which have been re-aired many times here.
And just to clarify, it's a bit different when an anime gets licensed say in America than in the Philippines. In US, they only air 1 episode a week. Here, the networks air 5 episodes a week (one per weekday).
The networks here pay little for a 26-episode season (about Php 1000000 = US$20,000) but they can only broadcast the episodes once. The setback is that the networks should not create any DVDs of these dubs. And after certain period, these networks should destroy all these files. That's why many series which have been re-aired many times here have been dubbed multiple times also with different voice actors for each re-dub.
But what puzzles me is that the dubs are great, compared to how English dubs are done in US. Actually, if you're gonna ask me on whether I'll prefer the Japanese audio with English subtitles or the Tagalog dub, I'll go for the Tagalog dub.
But because of this kind of cheap licensing, Philippine networks have been able to dub majority of anime that have been aired in Japan, especially shonen, seinen and shojou (josei are rare here).
So what I'm trying to say here is that the popularity of an anime is a little hard to gauge here. Almost all series aired here are aired up to the last episode (due to the 5 episode per week). Most anime are just aired for months so there is really little room for considering dropping the show. The only way to gauge how popular it is to compare its ratings with what is shown in other networks. And for OP's case which have been a consistent GMA 7 show, it's been defeated by ABS-CBN's Naruto, Card Captor Sakura, Get Backers and other anime I can't recall.

Ah I see. No wonder there was no One Piece on my parents GMA channel which I thought was strange. But I also guessed that the reason is that it's an american stream version of the channel. Though I see the real reason why. But I thought One Piece was pretty popular in the Phillipines, guess I thought wrong.
I remember I watched a clip of the Foxy fight on youtube. They kept the Japanese name for foxy's fruit and I was so happy that the tagalog dub was spot on, especially Luffy's. I've always believed phillipinos are good at recreating voices similar to the original. Did they translate Luffy's Gomu Gomu fruit to something?

^Normally, the networks here prefer to dub an anime from available English dubs. That's why anime like Gundam series, Ghost Fighter and others used the English conventions for names. But OP is a rare case. When GMA7 decided to license OP, they dubbed it straight from Japanese because there are no available English dubs yet. Hence, they preserved the original Japanese names.
About that Gomu Gomu of Luffy, Luffy says it "Goma Goma …" in Tagalog. Goma is the Tagalog (and I guess Spanish also, since we borrow many words from our former colinizer) for rubber. And I guess this is the only instance the dubbers used their creativity in making something different. As for the other techniques, they preserved the original.
The reason I guess why the dub of anime here is kinda superb is that both Japanese and Tagalog are CV (Consonant follwed by a vowel) languages. Actually whenver I read a Romaji, I sometimes tell myself that it's as if I'm reading a Tagalog text.
Plus, the anime is almost part of every child's life here. No Filipino child haven't watched less than 20 anime series during their elementary years I bet. The networks here always show anime at around 4pm to 530pm when most students have just returned from school. And so it's not unlikely for some of these millions of children not to aspire to become voice actors. I remember seeing feature TV shows here about anime voice actors, the youngest I've seen is just 10 years old. I remember one of such shows showing the dubbers work 6 days a week, 8 hours a day, and the only thing they do is dub and dub and dub.

^ i don't think one piece is that underrated in the Philippines. it probably has high ratings because GMA has a tendency to stop airing some anime series that don't attract enough viewers. The network just stops airing One Piece for a while due to the fact that thay don't have enough new episodes, because GMA won't buy the next arcs if they don't get enough viewership.
-
^well, what I know is that for all the reruns of OP here, the last rerun was the only one which garnered higher rating than ABS-CBN's. But the reason for this is that ABS-CBN was not able to show a top tier anime which is usually not the case.
Yeah GMA 7 has the tendency to stop airing some anime but they only do this for series which garner almost no viewership at all. OP at least manages to pull at least 10% of the viewership at a time. And that's already good enogh for GMA7 not to stop airing it. But if you'll compare it to ratings of ABS-CBN's shows which rivaled OP in the past reruns, theirs is far higher.
From what I observed ABS-CBN manages to make an anime more popular than GMA7. GMA7 cuts most of the opening and closing songs, plus they also cut too many scenes because of their tremoundous advertising time (a 30-minute timeslot has 15-minutes worth of ads). ABS-CBN doesn't do this (well, they also do this but not as extensive as GMA7). And maybe this is a reason why youths will watch ABS-CBN more than GMA7 no matter what the show is. And also I got to admit that ABS-CBN has more talented voice actors than GMA7. I heard ABS-CBN pays more, that's why.
-
^they have almost the same set of dubbers, methinks.
and majority of GMA anime dubs are better (at least back then) because Fullmetal Alchemist, One Piece, Shaman King, Slam Dunk and Dragon Ball, which are the best tagalog dubbed anime out there imo, are all from GMA. most of the ABS dubs are decent at best.
which isn't the case now though, except probably for One Piece. they always managed to retain the dub quality of One Piece, which is a very good thing. can't say the same for Prince of Tennis or Hikaru no Go though.
-
So I was wondering, does anybody have any clips from the tagalog one piece dub other than the couple on youtube. And do GMA7 dub any of the opening or endings?
-
^No.. They don't dub the songs.. Or rather, GMA7 almost don't show them at all..
And again as for the clips, I'm afraid Youtube is the best source already.. Unless you want to break the law and hunt for a pirated disc (which I doubt if there exist for OP), you won't be getting any..

I didn't think there were a handful of Filipinos here, unlike the OP forum I usually go to. Well, the last rerun of OP on GMA-7 was requested by me and my classmate. We requested to change the time slot from morning to afternoon, so we can watch it after school. At least we contributed to their decision to change it. They restarted it at Sky Island arc, I believe. But sadly, they cut it halfway through Water 7 arc. I hope that one day, they will air OP again. Filipino dubs are the best for me. Reading subtitles at the the lower part of the screen sometimes stray me from seeing the action.

I hate chopper's voice in tagalog…
I didn't even know that they got as far as water 7 -
One Piece actually resumed airing last Monday. I still watch it daily. They resumed the Water 7. I think the reason they stopped back then was due to the fact that there wasn't enough episodes back then yet. Hopefully, they'll be able to finish Enies Lobby, Ice Hunter, and maybe even Thriller Bark this time. I doubt they've already bought the Sabaody Arc though.
-
Really? You mean, they resumed it last May 4? I don't know cause I'm currently in Japan. If you're right, then I can't wait to see it.
-
They did not start it from ep 1? Well, that's understandable since it's not more than a year since they stopped showing it. I just hope that by the time I already have a recorder, they'll replay the series from ep 1.
-
Why watch it in Filipino? I've got nothing against the language, but sadly the dubbers really aren't that good.
There are too many reasons why you won't get to appreciate the anime as much..I strongly recommend watching it with original Jap voices & English subs, I can recommend a couple of sites where you can stream them. Or if you can't do that, there are many places to buy VCDs/DVDs other than Greenhills..

watching the tagalog dub is pretty fun, in my opinion. yes, i do know that watching the original still is the best, but the way they dub the anime, it's especially amusing when they use local terms and stuff and still manage to bring out the adorable one piece comedy that we all know and love.
and i love the way that Sanji's voice actor in Filipino sounds so similar to the Japanese one. it's like, Hiroata Hiraki taught to speak in Tagalog. awesomeness much.
